  1. Conclave (2024) || A Holy Power Struggle That Feels Anything But Divine@teknon297d

    IMG_9246.jpeg

I have to be honest, religious films usually don’t grab me. The few I’ve seen, if I did see at all, either felt too preachy, too distant, or just plain dull. But this one? It surprised me. This is the first one that had me hooked and unblinking from the very beginning. I give it to the director, Edward Berger, for not making it a sermon dressed up as cinema. It is a political thriller in holy robes and I just couldn’t look away.

    IMG_9242.jpeg

One of the first things that caught my eye was the cardinals smoking. It made me pause for a second and I thought, Wait, are cardinals even allowed to smoke? Maybe allowed isn’t the right word. Are cardinals ‘supposed’ to be seen smoking? Isn’t smoking considered a sin amongst these high priests? Watching these men of faith puffing away while deciding the next Pope was so jarring, yet so human, that it pulled me deeper into the story.

    IMG_9244.jpeg

I’m not Catholic, but I’ve always found their rituals fascinating. The incense, the chanting, the weight of tradition. This film doesn’t shy away from showing all of that, and honestly? It’s mesmerizing. The Vatican setting is magnificent: grand halls drenched in candlelight, I had the feeling of being inside walls that have held centuries of secrets and for a second I felt unworthy. The atmosphere is both sacred and suffocating, like the walls themselves are listening.

    IMG_9241.jpeg

And then there are the costumes, scarlet robes, gold-trimmed vestments, each detail making the cardinals look less like men and more like players in some ancient ritual. It’s beautiful but also intimidating, like power made visible in fabric.

    IMG_9239.jpeg

Performance-wise, Ralph Fiennes carries the film with quiet brilliance. His Cardinal Thomas Lawrence, isn’t loud or flashy, he’s conflicted, cautious and merely human in a world that demands perfection. The supporting cast (Stanley Tucci, John Lithgow, Isabella Rossellini) add layers of intrigue, making it feel less like a religious ceremony and more like a chess match where every piece has its own agenda. had to look up the real names of the supporting casts

    IMG_9247.jpeg

What makes Conclave standout to me is the tension that simmers beneath its silence. Those whispered confessions, subtle glance, felt loaded. This isn’t about saints and sinners, but about ambition, guilt, faith and survival, all locked in the same room.

    IMG_9237.jpeg

Would I recommend it? With a hand to my chest, I absolutely do. Even if you’re not into religious films (like me), this one grabs you with its atmosphere and drama. It’s slow, sure, but it’s the kind of slow burn that makes you lean forward, not tune out.

    IMG_9249.jpeg

I am yet to find out if this film won an Oscars because it is absolutely deserving of it in my honest opinion.

    Rating? A 9/10 from me.

Hello everyone, friends of Hive, fans of good stories, this time I want to bring you all a new review, I just saw a movie, Conclave, and whew! I need to talk to you about this, it's a movie that really moves you, it leaves you thinking, that feels... important! Let's see, the idea itself already catches you, imagine: the Pope dies, just like that, they close the Vatican with all the padlocks... all the Cardinals of the world go to Rome for the conclave, that super secret thing, centuries old, to elect the new Pope, nobody has any idea what goes on in there, and that's gold for a movie. It’s like the most tense election in the world, but with all the vibe of tradition, faith and, let’s be honest, definitely a ton of political stuff, the movie milks the whole mystery… they sell it as a political and religious thriller, and the tension they manage is great, listen, the people behind this are pure heavyweights…

Directed by Edward Burger, do you remember All Quiet on the Western Front? The one that had like a thousand Oscar nominations and won a bunch? Well, that one! And the script is by Peter Straughan, who was nominated for adapting Tinker Tailor… so you go in expecting something good, intelligent, well-crafted cinema… and believe me, they deliver, this isn’t just a movie; it’s… it’s good cinema, the kind that feels classic, careful, where every shot, every dialogue, is thought out. And in the middle of it all, the one who rocks it is Ralph Fiennes, he plays Cardinal Lawrence, a Vatican bigwig who basically has to organize the entire conclave, ensuring that the age-old rules are followed... he does it simply incredible, he has this intensity that seems contained, long-suffering... he reminded me a bit of Cillian Murphy in Oppenheimer last year, that vibe of the guy who carries the world on his shoulders and fights with himself. His character, Lawrence, isn't one to seek the spotlight; in fact, it seemed as though they had half forgotten him in his career, and that is precisely why he is ideal to handle this mess, because he doesn't go around with all his ambition, like almost everyone else... he's like the calm eye of the hurricane, trying to navigate this whole mess while he himself is in his own crisis of faith... truly, a brutal performance that sustains the entire film.

But we also have to give recognition to the rest of the cast, pure crack, people! There's Stanley Tucci as Cardinal Bellini, the one who wants the Church to modernize, he puts a kind of desperate energy into it, because he feels that this election is perhaps the last chance to take the Church where he thinks it should go. Then you have Sergio Castellitto as the traditionalist, the one who doesn't want to budge on anything; John Lithgow as the "calm" option, so as not to get into fights; and Lucien Msamati as a cardinal who's aiming to be the first African Pope in centuries... each with his own flag, his own idea of the Church, and watching them clash... wow, it's fascinating! Even Isabella Rossellini, she comes across as a nun, Sister Agnes, she doesn't appear that much, but how every second she's on screen weighs... she has a presence, a calm authority that is truly felt among so many cardinals, seriously, the whole cast is incredible.

Now, between us, don't expect chases or shootouts, okay? This is a thriller, but one of those "people talking in rooms" kind. Have you heard of Succession? Well, imagine it in the Vatican, more or less... it's all about the discussions, the secret agreements, the leaks they make on purpose, the power games... that super-intense back-and-forth that happens with pure dialogue and seeing who switches sides... some may find it boring, but give me this every time... I love this kind of tense drama, which grabs you with the words, where every sentence counts. The script is sharp, it pulls you in right... after the first 10 minutes, just to get the hang of it, I was already inside, leaning back in my seat trying to take everything in... It has its good points too, there are moments of humor that did make us laugh, which is appreciated because it doesn't make everything feel so serious or heavy.

This isn't just about seeing who gets to wear that elegant hat. The film delves into some really heavy themes... I mean, it digs deep into things like faith itself, the clash between the same old thing, tradition, and the idea that we need to change, to move forward; how ambition can rot everything, even in a place that's supposed to be sacred; they even touch on the problem of women in a Church that, well, is ruled by men. It makes you think a lot about whether leaders, especially religious ones, have to be perfect, or if it's precisely their mistakes, their problems, that make them human, closer to us, you know?

Fiennes' character gives a fantastic speech saying that the next Pope doesn't have to be a saint, but a sinner who tries hard to overcome his faults, and of course, imagine the looks on the Cardinals' faces, who think they're the last Coca-Cola in the desert. Obviously, they didn't like it at all! Haha. And something that really struck me is how this whole power struggle resembles normal, everyday politics. I mean, you see the cardinals with their cliques looking for support, making deals behind the scenes, even putting their foot in each other's mouths... it feels familiar! Like watching any presidential or congressional election go haywire, but with more incense and more Catholic clothing, right?

It clearly shows you these dynamics of power, of negotiation, of influence, and yes, even of corruption, that happen anywhere where people fight over who's in charge... something I appreciated, and maybe you're surprised, is that the film touches on all these strong, adult themes—doubt, sin, politics, dirty secrets—but it does so without the need for crazy violence or profanity every two seconds... in fact, it's rated PG, which is suitable for almost everyone! Which is crazy for such an intense, complex film, really, it feels fresh. It shows you that you can make serious, thought-provoking, adult films without having to scream "LOOK HOW ADULT I AM!" in your face with all the heavy-hitting scenes. Let the drama and the ideas do their work.

Okay, okay... now, without spoiling anything... there's a twist, right near the end... and wow, let me tell you, I did NOT see this one coming... I mean, not even if you gave me a thousand chances to guess, it's... daring, I think it's going to be very divisive. It's one of those things that can easily be misunderstood, or that people can use to stir up trouble in these crazy times we're living in, you know? Me? Honestly, I'm still thinking about it... on one hand, I won't deny that it's interesting and it makes you rethink things, but on the other... I don't know if it was really necessary for the story they were telling. It felt a bit like you were telling a really good story about how you almost killed yourself in your car and suddenly you put in a crazy gear, it's a really sharp change of direction right at the end, and while yes, you remember that, I wonder if it doesn't take a bit of the shine off all the well-crafted drama we saw before, it's what keeps me thinking the most.

Maybe I'll have to watch it more times now that I know what's going on to make a good decision... but look, even with that little doubt about the ending, the vast majority of the film—easily 98%—is simply brutal. The acting, as I told you, is top-notch... the direction is steady, creating a tension that's jaw-dropping. The script is sharp, intelligent, and grips you... visually, wow! It's also incredible—how they show you the Vatican, the grandeur and the shadows, that contrast between the luxurious and the human drama happening inside. The production design feels super real; you believe you're right there, in those sacred, semi-claustrophobic halls. The music also helps a lot to create the atmosphere, that throbbing you feel underneath you the whole time... so, overall? I was fascinated. It's smart, suspenseful, beautifully made and leaves you thinking a lot, the ending felt a little less natural than everything that came before, but that's just a minor detail compared to how solid the film is... I'll easily give it a 9.5/10, it's one of those films that stays with you... and well friends, that's all for today, I hope you liked this review, see you soon, I've left the trailer down here, see you a lot! Bye!

Me tuvo fascinado. Byebye!

  3. Conclave: What goes on behind those walls [ENG/ESP]@ibet410d

How are you movie lovers? I am very happy to be here again sharing with you in a new post. With the recent unfortunate event of the Pope's passing, I decided to watch Conclave, which was also very present last year.

Conclave (2024), is a film directed by Edward Berger and starring Ralph Fiennes. Based on the 2016 novel of the same name by Robert Harris. After the death of the pope, the cardinals meet in a conclave to elect his successor, this is under the leadership of the dean Thomas Lawrence (Ralph Fiennes), there are several candidates to be the next pope and here we begin to see the reality of human nature.

Obviously all the candidates wanted to be the next pope. Just imagine becoming the most famous man in the world and having so many people respect and admire you just for being you, anyone can get in over their head and these cardinals aspiring to be the pope were no exception. The film immerses us in the days of the conclave and how some cardinals hinder their opponents to make them disqualify them and take power (so to speak).

The movie really surprised me, honestly I really like movies of this type and I really enjoyed it, the ending was a plot twist that left me with my mouth open. The performances are pretty good and bring you into the story, they make you see that these people who are supposed to be men of God, are also humans with ambitions and evil desires, who somehow have to appear this kind of saintliness. I really recommend this movie if you are someone who enjoys psychological suspense. I hope you liked today's post, I'll say goodbye for now, thank you very much for reading and see you in another post ❤️

    English

Greetings to all movie lovers in this community. As it is becoming a habit (and I love it), I have prepared for you another review of another movie that has been quite popular in the last weeks. It is Conclave, directed by Edward Berger, whom we know from the movie “All Quiet on the Front Lines”.

    Banner Movies.png

    image.png

    English

I know Conclave got a lot of buzz because of what happened. But the reality is that it had been on my to-watch list for a long time, but it was only recently that I was able to see it on Prime, because it's a couple of weeks old. I think it was purely coincidental, but I also find the film conducive to what is happening in the world lately.

The premise of this film is simple and to the point. The Pope has died, and all the cardinals of the world must present themselves at the Vatican to elect the new Supreme Pontiff. In charge of all this protocol is Deacon Cardinal Thomas Lawrence, played masterfully by Ralph Fiennes. He must lead the Conclave, and in this one there are 3 strong candidates, a progressive, a conservative, and a traditionalist. So this movie, beyond making us recover our faith, shows us the political movements that are managed within the Catholic Church.

The movie gave us everything. Gossip, tension, suspense, and a plot twist that saved the two hours of slow movie. I must point out that although the film has a slow pace, it does not seem disproportionate to the millennial theme of the church. The cinematography is wonderful, a true work of art. The performances are perfect. We could not ask for a more complex cast than the one in this film.

    image.png

    English

Although unfortunately, this film did not win any Oscars or Best Picture awards, the adapted screenplay and the cast won several awards. And speaking of Oscars, this movie got a lot of criticism for the inclusion of Isabella Rossellini as Best Supporting Actress. She didn't really play a memorable role and left out Margaret Qualley, who deserved, at least, her nomination for Best Supporting Actress.

As I mentioned before, the real strength of this film is the ending, without this, I think it would have gone into oblivion like many other films of this genre. So, kudos to the writer of the eponymous novel, Robert Harris, because he was amazing and unbeatable. Bravo.

Now I want to tell you something that happened to me while I was watching the movie. As I told you, I had been waiting since last year to see it because everyone recommended it, but honestly, I procrastinated. So last Thursday, at noon, I finally started watching the movie. While I was watching it, I logged on to X to see what people were talking about, and just then the white smoke postings started coming out announcing that there was a new Pope. I kept watching the movie, and by the time I finished it, the new Pope was announced. I thought it was a perfect timing that everything was happening at the same time I was watching the movie.

I am not Catholic or Christian, but I am curious to see how all these world religions develop. I feel that there is a mystery and a magic, especially the artistic part of the protocol that surrounds a Conclave, and the wonderful adaptation of all this in this incredible cinematographic work is something to applaud. I recommend it to everyone. It's available on Amazon Prime, you're going to love it (or maybe not 😏).

Thank you all for reading, we'll keep reading. I share with you the trailer to get you in the mood.

  5. 🎬 2025 Movie #26 | Conclave (2024)@screenjournal414d

This blog is a personal journal of all the movies, Tv-Shows, & Games I consume during a year which enhances my overall experience. The ratings that I give are fully based on my personal preference and enjoyment at the time of watching and I'm writing spoiler-free reviews. (All HBD earnings are used to get extra Hive Power Delegations!)

Conclave is a movie that I normally never would have watched if it wasn't for the recent events of the new pope being chosen. I'm not relegious and have no connection with it whatsoever as a more rational person who goes more by facts. This said, I generally see it as an added factor to watch a movie about a recent real-life event and as I approach it more as a way to potentially learn something. In the same way last year, I watched Dumb Money when this roaring Kitty guy posted that Lock in meme that made him popular again which helped me enjoy that movie. This said, I didn't have any expectations on Conclave aside from bad ones as this just isn't the kind of movie that I'm generally into. However, it pleasantly surprised me even though I watched it in 2 days as I felt on Friday after 30 minutes that I needed effort to stay awake.

    Conclave (7.0/10)

I mainly looked at this movie as an inside view of what actually goes on during the election of the new pope as the only real thing I know about it is that a bunch of cardinals come togheter in vatican city to choose the new pope and if they got to a consensus there is white smoke and if they don't there is black smoke.

The movie was actually made very well visually and it was the first one I saw from Director Edward Berger. The acting and the main role of Ralph Fiennes was cast very well, but I always have somewhat of an issue when actors that played in an iconic Tv Show appear in movies as they tend to take me completely out of it. This was the case when seeing John Litgow who is the old guy from 3rd Rock From The Sun. I rememer feeling the same thing when I first saw him in Interstellar but also here it rather quickly faded away again.

    Movie Plot (Spoiler Free):

"When Cardinal Lawrence is tasked with leading one of the world's most secretive and ancient events, selecting a new Pope, he finds himself at the center of a web of conspiracies and intrigue that could shake the very foundation of the Catholic Church."

There isn't that much to this movie when it comes down to the actual story which I would say is a good thing as it helped to keep it rather realistic. What it comes down to is that many of these old guys who all want to become the new pope get power hungry and try to make the vote go their way in some dirty ways. Something about this movie made me kind of feel like I was watching "12 Angry Men" with some good guys trying to get to the best and most fair outcome which is actually a good thing.

The story when it comes down to it is fairly thin but it gave a nice twist which I liked. For those who don't want to watch it but want to know what happens in just a couple sentences...

    Spoiler

So the pope dies and there is a conclave to choose the new one, one of the cardinals attending is one nobody heard of before. There is somewhat of a battle between different favorites and some because of things of the past that get dragged into it get eliminated. There is something of a vocal argument at some point at which the new guy peaks up with a speach that makes everyone vote for him so he gets to become pope. However, it turns out that he's actually born a women which is held quiet to the public after which the movie ends.

Conclusion There are quite some things I actually liked about this movie and the fact that nothing spectacular or unrealistic happens is one of it. I also liked an early speech of the main character who was indicating that doubt is needed in order to have faith. I learned something watching this one of how the actual voting process works but I missed debates about who it should become as it mainly were just always silent votes until there was a consensus. At some point it be became instantly predictable who the new pope would be voted but there was a nice twist afterward which made the movie better. Overall I enjoyed watching it which I didn't expect while I also wasn't blown away. A Solid 7.0/10 and the fact that it's about recent news events certainly helped. If there ever is a time to watch this one it is now.

    Hello! 💙

The truth is that watching this film with the recent events of Pope Francis is a great way to learn more or less what is going on around the world, the photography of the film is beautifully done, the contrasts in its colors are impressive, and as each dialogue is beautifully constructed.

If I must say that the first hour can get a little slower than normal, but it must be so to reach the moment of the final climax, even see reflected in the characters, as religion is left aside and faith now simply become a kind of power game, in which the figure of the Pope no longer represents only a religion but also a kind of political power.

The performances are undoubtedly the best of the film along with the costumes, I must say that I never expected such a good movie based on a religion, but the truth manages to do it in an incredible way even dare I say in a certainly respectful way, because although I criticize certain points about how they are handled in the religion the truth at no time I felt that they were disrespecting it, if you have the opportunity to see the truth I think it's pretty good, I do think that the end can become a little strange not bad, and not out of the ordinary only that it will not end up pleasing all people.

    ¡Hasta la próxima, un abrazo!

  7. Conclave (2024) - REVIEW - [ENGLISH-SPANISH]@maaasha466d
    [Source](https://kreattivita.org/en/event/conclave/2024-12-15/)

Conclave is one of those films that you spend time with in order to process it. It is directed by Edward Berger, who manages to pass through the closed doors of the Vatican during the most secret process, the election of a new pope. The truth is I had no idea what to expect when I started watching this movie about a group of cardinals voting, it's a political thriller with red robes set in one of the most impressive places in the world. Robert Harris' novel serves as inspiration for the film, the premise itself is very good especially with seeing the inner workings of the Vatican, the images are quite impressive.

The story begins with the death of the Pope and Cardinal Lawrence is forced to organize the conclave, the meeting of cardinals who will elect the next head of the Catholic Church. The cardinals are isolated in a special dormitory, separated from the outside world, and they vote until they find a two-thirds majority for a candidate. The main rivals quickly emerge: there is the ultra-conservative Cardinal Tedesco who wants to return traditional values to the Church and seems to have problems with immigrants and other religions; Cardinal Bellini is a liberal candidate who does not really want the job; Cardinal Adeyemi could become the first African pope; and Cardinal Tremblay is a political schemer who does everything possible to get votes. but there is a surprise addition and that is Cardinal Benitez, the Archbishop of Kabul, who had been appointed by the previous pope but whose appointment had been kept secret.

Secrets begin to come to light as the voting progresses, it is revealed that Adeyemi had a son decades ago, that Tremblay is caught bribing cardinals to get their votes, and the tension between the conservative and liberal lines grows. At the same time, the cardinals are not safe from attacks of violence or disturbances in the outside world and this increases the pressure on their decision. Cardinal Lawrence finds himself in his own crisis of faith and tries to maintain the honesty of the process but when he feels it is necessary he breaks the rules to discover the truth about the candidates.

The performances in Conclave are the strong point, Ralph Fiennes is Cardinal Lawrence, a man who questions his faith while maintaining the traditions and integrity of an institution for which he has given his life. In almost every scene, the internal struggle can be seen on his face, but he doesn't overdo it; he's quite convincing. Another actor is Stanley Tucci, I think he is good at playing cunning characters who are several steps ahead of the others and he does so with Bellini without seeming manipulative or false. John Lithgow as Cardinal Tremblay is quite the schemer, Lucian Msamati is Cardinal Adeyemi and Sergio Castellitto is more than a conservative bad guy in the role of Cardinal Tedesco although his script doesn't allow him as much as the others. My favorite role is Isabella Rossellini as Sister Agnes who, according to her, is supposed to be invisible, but can see and hear anything.

When I started watching Conclave I was expecting a serious drama about faith and power and at a certain point it is like that but I was surprised at how much it resembled a thriller, with hidden documents, scandals, secrets and revelations and I liked this because it prevents the film from being boring or heavy, the Vatican settings or rather what appears to be the Vatican, are impressive. What I didn't like about this film is that the representation of the conservative side is very one-dimensional. At times Cardinal Tedesco seems more like a caricature than a character with a real theological vision. I would have liked him to be more convincing.

    [Source](https://www.gq-magazine.co.uk/article/conclave-ending)

The most controversial part of the movie is the ending, after all the political maneuvering, the scandals that come to light and the election of the candidate, Cardinal Benitez becomes the new pope, however, before he can be presented to the world, he reveals to Cardinal Lawrence that he was born with both male and female reproductive organs, that he has a uterus and ovaries, as well as male genitalia, he says that he found out about this during a routine check-up and that he has chosen to live as God created him, keeping both sets of organs. This revelation must be incredible. The next leader of an institution that has been so criticized for its patriarchal structure and its stance on gender is intersexual and it seems that the previous pope knew this secret and even so named Benítez cardinal. but in the end the revelation seems unnecessary. The film seems to insinuate that God works in mysterious ways, even with some irony in putting an intersex person at the head of a male-dominated institution, as a last-minute revelation it seems more of a surprise than something to reflect on gender and religion. Conclave has some excellent performances, it deals with the human aspects of faith and power, the ways in which those of us who believe in being holier than thou can be so caught up in ambition and conflict and that thriller element makes it more interesting. Score 7.8/10.

Power, greed, corruption; all elements as human as violence, lies, and hypocrisy. It wouldn't be news, nor would it surprise anyone, if it weren't much of the plot that we see in Conclave, a film nominated for an Academy Award in several categories. Including Best Picture, Best Actor and Best Screenplay. Personally, I won't lie to you, my experience with religious cinema has been spectacular. There are so many films that deal with those little things we don't see in cathedrals, monuments, temples, mosques, synagogues, or churches in the world....

However, in Conclave we witness something that I really love in a good thriller: conflict. Here the protagonists are the most privileged hierarchs in the modern history of mankind, none other than the cardinals of the Roman Catholic Church. The former Pope has died of natural causes, and the Church has been left bereft. It is of the utmost importance that the Conclave meets to elect the new King of the Church of God on Earth. And they are human beings not unlike you and me. Only with the conviction that they have been chosen to lead the souls of the world.

Far from being (the cardinals, aspiring Popes) exemplary people, we can see how the Church is no different in its ways and power management to a similar dispute but within the classic mafia of all life. The desire to be in charge and have all the power is such that almost immediately we witness how the placid men of God are transformed into something more akin to the plot of an episode of Game of Thrones than the sweet bishop who gives mass on Sundays in the congregation closest to his home.

I will not overlook the impeccable work of Ralph Finnes, an actor I also have a soft spot for. I've been following him since Spielberg's Schindler's List, and it honestly doesn't surprise me to see how dynamic and talented he is. In Conclave, he is the guide of the council of cardinals. A sort of steward of choice and moral authority for the others. He is also the representation of the inquisitive and sceptical eye with regard to the very role of faith in people's lives. Stanley Tucci, another fantastic actor, doubles with Finnes, and within the film he has very solid lines that are impossible to miss and ignore.

But what is Conclave's contribution? For me, two things. Its beautiful cinematography, and the design of the characters. And also. The plot twist at the end is, to say the least, original and highly transgressive. That's why I think it's so acclaimed and highly regarded. It's impossible not to enjoy it. Believe me, the writer is someone who hates traditions and doesn't follow the Church too much, but it's the way this film is directed that makes it so peculiar. Its shots are haunting, symmetrical, beautiful from the colour palette and practically a work of Baroque. For the love of God, since next Sunday is the 97th Academy Awards, I invite you to give it a chance and judge it for yourself...

After a while of pending to see a movie that had been recommended to me, I finally did it. The footage is called Conclave, a 2024 film directed by Edward Berger. This film is based on the novel by Robert Harris. I really like this topic of how the Pope is elected, the highest figure of Catholicism, although I do not consider myself a Catholic, but these issues have always caught my attention, which is why I decided to give the movie a chance.

Conclave is a drama, thriller and intrigue film, which tells us that Cardinal Lawrence, the dean, must carry out the election of a new Pope, after the unexpected death of the holy father, so the papacy became vacant. At the beginning of the film we are shown the whole protocol after the death of the supreme pontiff, where everything is done very carefully, as written in the rules governing the Vatican. The beginning of the film is very touching, even with a sweet tone, but then when the election begins, everything becomes much more intriguing, since the death of the Pope was unexpected, so Cardinal Lawrence, apart from directing the Conclave, also tries to see everything behind the death of this religious figure and many mysteries to be revealed.

This story makes it clear that within the Vatican there are many mysteries, corruption, sexual abuse and much more, cases that have come to public light and have shaken the foundations of the Catholic Church. Many of the things we see in this film, remind me of cases that have come out and issues that I have seen in documentaries. The script is well written, I think that at this point the film is very good, the dialogues comply with what it wants to show. On the other hand, I must say that I expected more from this film, I think the film is quite dynamic, but I think the ending was very predictable and for my taste everything developed very fast. With this I do not mean that the film is bad, because it fulfills the intrigue of the viewer to see how the story ends and how the investigations of the strongest candidates to become the new Pope are taking place.

The ending was not to my liking, although I expected that result as the plot progressed, personally it was quite predictable who would be the chosen one, except that there was a doubt if the election was finally going to happen or not and this was what ended up saving the outcome of the story of “Conclave”. Anyway, the plot is not bad, but it has its flaws that may disappoint the audience, it all depends on the taste of each person, as I have read quite positive reviews of this film. As far as performances are concerned, I feel that most of the cast did a wonderful job, performances with memorable moments, giving much more desire to continue watching the movie despite the flaws mentioned above.

Ralph Fiennes as Cardinal Thomas Lawrence was one of my favorite performances, as well as Stanley Tucci as Cardinal Aldo Bellini who I have seen in several films such as The Hunger Games saga, The Devil Wears Prada, among others and the truth is that his work never disappoints. We also have John Lithgow as Cardinal Tremblay, Lucian Msamati as Cardinal Adeyemi, Sergio Castellitto as Cardinal Tedesco and Carlos Diehz as Cardinal Benitez, who play an important role in the story and the political struggle for who will be the new Supreme Pontiff.

Regarding the photography, it is one of the strong points of the film, as we are shown the different emblematic scenarios of the Vatican, such as the Sistine Chapel, where we see excellent shots of the painting of the ceiling, which was made by Michelangelo. We are also shown other places inside the Vatican, where the cardinals meet, where they are secluded because during the election they cannot have any contact with the outside, since it is not supposed to influence the important decision they must make, as is the leader of the Catholic Church. The photography was done by Stéphane Fontaine. I also loved the costumes, the sets, a great job in this aspect.

The soundtrack by Volker Bertelmann was a good job, which shows the suspense and the delivery of what is being seen, with background music that takes us into the story being told, so I think the music was a success. With everything said above I can tell you that Conclave is not a bad movie, it is quite entertaining, only that there are moments in the treatment that ruin the experience a little. Do I recommend it? Despite the flaws that can be noticed, in general I would recommend it, a Thriller that serves to pass the time, a story with enough intrigue and an ending that I personally did not like, which is something that can be endured.

Religion is not one of my favorite topics, but when reading several reviews of this film, where many compared it to the House of Cards series, I had to give it at least a chance, and the truth is, I quite liked it, since beyond its theme, the way in which they developed the story is very good, giving it some plot twists, with a detective essence that is maintained until the end and very intriguing in its conclusion, since traditional ideas of the church confront each other with somewhat conservative ideas and ideas of modernization of faith.

The central plot begins quickly, because with the death of the Supreme Pontiff of the church, we see part of the protocol for this situation, how they call his closest acquaintances and other aspects, beginning almost immediately the contest to see who will succeed him in the highest position of the Catholic church. All the candidates arrive in the city, and from that point, they will all be away from the outside world, so that through their faith, or by convenience and politics, they will not be influenced in their decision, seeing the iconic black smoke when they do not achieve unanimity in their representative.

Sinopsis según FilmAffinity / Synopsis according FilmAffinity:

"After the unexpected death of the Supreme Pontiff, Cardinal Lawrence is appointed to lead one of the most secret and ancient rituals in the world: the election of a new Pope. When the most powerful leaders of the Catholic Church meet in the halls of the Vatican, Lawrence finds himself caught up in a complex conspiracy while uncovering a secret that could shake the foundations of the Church."

With the arrival of a new cardinal, by order of the previous Pope, and who until then was unknown to everyone, we see how everyone begins to apply their influence to win votes for the candidate they believe would be suitable, seeing how they take dirty clothes on their opponents to remove favorites from them, how there are still many believers in the oppressive rules of previous generations, and how in the first instance, faith and their beliefs are not what they are based on to make that decision.

I was also struck by the idea of those being attended to a few meters from the election headquarters, and as in the first instance, they are ignored, since this could alter the sensitivities of the cardinals, modifying the election of their Supreme Pontiff. The final message with which the chosen one is finally decided was something hopeful, the world is already mired in many misfortunes, that instead of separating us to fight against them, we should unite to end them little by little, although I have always considered myself a little more extreme with these issues, because living in a country with so much crime, my vision changes when I see so much injustice.

As for the performances, Ralph Fiennes' role as Cardinal Lawrence was excellent, since despite being a clergyman who only seeks to do his job, thinking not only of his interests, but of what would be best for the church in general, he gives the story with the appropriate suspense of a detective, while he struggles with his own doubts, which makes him quite human. The rest of the performances were also in line, with the exception of John Lithgow as Cardinal Joseph, because I think he was very flat, despite being a kind of antagonist.

Speaking of the production, many of the scenes look very good, although sometimes they tend to be very repetitive, something inherent to the concept as such. Likewise, the costumes were also very successful, since they show the pomposity of the church, something that has been criticized on many occasions, and seeing the message they want to give us, it has never seemed quite good to me. The soundtrack is also very good, it gives more emotion and suspense to certain scenes, lightening others, so it seems to me that it plays well with the timing of the film.

In conclusion, the film has a good dose of suspense, we see first-hand one of the most secret procedures of the church, where the next Pope, the head of the Catholic Church, will finally be chosen, and although sometimes their figures are idealized for what they represent, they are human, with their errors and successes, and I think the way to humanize them is good, but the ending did not seem quite right to me, beyond the fact that paradigms have been broken that I believe we will never see in an institution like that.

Conclave is a psychological thriller that focuses on one of the oldest and most hermetic processes of the Catholic Church, the election of a new Pope. After the death of the Supreme Pontiff, Cardinal Lawrence is assigned to lead the Conclave, the process by which the new Pope is elected. All the cardinals of the world are called to be part of the election by meeting in the halls of the Vatican, they are isolated from the outside world and their only mission is to elect the new Pope, while this does not happen they will be confined there. The success of the Conclave would culminate with White Smoke coming out of the chimney of the Vatican Building.

Lawrence has a difficult task, as the Conclave begins and the candidates to be the new supreme pontiff are nominated, each of them hides secrets that could prevent them from occupying the most important position in the Catholic Church, Lawrence's responsibility is to investigate and discover what they are hiding in order to make the Conclave a fair and transparent election. As the film progresses, unexpected secrets of the favorites to win the title of supreme pontiff are revealed, as well as a series of conspiracies that threaten to undermine the process. Lawrence will also have to face his internal struggle that makes him doubt his vocation as a cardinal of the church.

Although the film is a bit slow, I really liked it. I found it interesting and I didn't lose interest in its plot, it is full of mystery and suspense. Its protagonist Ralph Fiennes (Lawrence) did an excellent job, he is nominated for best actor for this film and deserves it, I hope he wins. I also liked the staging of Conclave, I felt like I was within the walls of the Vatican and its hermeticism, an atmosphere full of mystery and strict rules, very good costumes, photography, sound and lighting.

The film has an unexpected twist at the end that may be shocking for many, but I personally liked it. I think that in the eyes of God we are all equal, there are no differences. The important thing to be a pope in my opinion is the vocation and the desire to serve God and the people, although this is not always the case and greed for power and other personal factors come into play. I invite you to watch Conclave in the comfort of your sofa and have your own opinion about it. I hope you like it. I say goodbye to you, until next time, dear movie buffs. Good luck Conclave in winning the statuette!

  12. Conclave (2024): who will be the new Pope? | ¿quién será el nuevo Papa?@cristiancaicedo509d

Nominated for 8 Academy Awards | Nominada a 8 premios de la Academia

Every year, the Academy Award nominations surprise us in multiple ways. Sometimes it's due to the absence of certain titles or names that, in our opinion, deserved to be on the final list and in other cases it's because we discovered among the nominees some stories that we were unaware of until then or that we didn't think would make it there. In the case of Conclave, what surprised me was the number of nominations, eight, including best film, best editing and best production design. Don't misunderstand what I'm saying, Conclave is a very good film, but eight nominations? Let's see what this movie is about.

Directed by Edward Berger, the mastermind behind Im Westen nichts Neues (which won 4 Oscars out of a total of 9 nominations) and with a screenplay by Peter Straughan based on a novel by Robert Harris, Conclave is starring Ralph Fiennes, Stanley Tucci, John Lithgow and Isabella Rossellini, among other very good actors. The film tells the story of Cardinal Thomas Lawrence, dean of the Holy See, who, upon the death of the Pope, is in charge of directing the Conclave, a meeting held by the College of Cardinals of the Church to elect who will be the new Supreme Pontiff. Taking into account that scenario and knowing that the film is a thriller, my first reference, that is, the first story that came to mind was Angels & Demons by Dan Brown. However, beyond a similarity of environment, the story is very different, starting because here, like the cardinals who must lock themselves up and isolate themselves from the world while the vote lasts, the spectators don't leave the walls of the chosen building at any time because of the election. That, in my opinion, was a very intelligent decision because it generates in those who watch the film the same feeling of confinement that the priests of the College of Cardinals have and also, although the atmosphere can become a little claustrophobic, it allows us to fully immerse ourselves in a story of suspense, secrets, revelations and unexpected - or perhaps not so unexpected - plot twists.

Scene from the movie | Escena de la película

This is the Catholic Church, yes, a two thousand year old institution linked to a creed, a faith and certain religious dogmas, but like any election, this is a political contest. The four main candidates are Aldo Bellini (Tucci), a liberal priest with a position close to the recently deceased Pope; Joshua Adeyemi, a Nigerian, who is a little more conservative, as is Joseph Tremblay of Canada; and finally there is Goffredo Tedesco, Italian, a reactionary traditionalist who believes that we must return to the essence of the ecclesiastical spirit and be less permissive and liberal; Goffredo is the one who most opposed the late Pope and since he was loved by many, the Italian Cardinal seems to be the least desired option for the members who must choose.

Also, as in any other election, the main candidates hide some stains, reasons that will be used by their peers to be discredited, because even if they are men of God, how many of them have not had the secret ambition of becoming Pope? The Supreme Pontiff is the head of the Catholic Church in the world, it's a level of authority and celebrity that is difficult to conceive or compare with other positions. In many ways, being Pope is being much more than president, it's being on the one hand the man who heads the entire institution, but on the other hand being God's representative on earth, in charge of guiding the sheep of his parishioner. It's a position that brings together the political and human with the spiritual and divine. And above all, being Pope means one thing: Power. And power, as we know, is one of man's greatest ambitions in all history. Then, in the midst of plots, secrets coming to light, last-minute revelations, heated tempers, rumors and external threats, Cardinal Lawrence finds himself with the task of carrying out an election in which a victory with 2/3 of the votes, something that seems very far away after the first three votes. The Cardinals must remain locked up until one of them is elected Pope and although in theory there is no rush, the truth is that the longer the decision is delayed, the more damaging it will be for the Church because it will show to others the image of being an institution in crisis. Which it is, of course. But Lawrence doesn't want to project that image to the world.

Scene from the movie | Escena de la película

Despite being a dramatic film whose protagonists are elderly religious men - that is, there is not much action so to speak - the film moves at a good pace and offers, little by little, the possibility of us taking a closer portrait of the secondary characters and of Lawrence himself, whose spiritual crisis adds even more weight to the titanic task he must carry out. It's not just about electing a Pope, but whoever is elected, it has to be the best of the options, or in any case the least negative option, something curious to say knowing that we are talking about men of church, but deep down they are men, human beings, and as such, they have defects and errors that they carry with them.

In every thriller it's essential that there are plot twists and revelations that shed light - or shadows - on the plot that we have followed up to that point. Conclave has that, yes, but towards the second half of the film I got the impression that these twists were almost magician's tricks and they no longer surprised me as much or left me satisfied. Of course, it must be said, the film's cinematography is tremendous and so is the editing. The performances are very good (Fiennes and Tucci always deliver) and the music helps emphasize the fact that we are watching a thriller and not a religious film. We are in the Vatican, yes, but we are in the middle of a conspiracy, a corporate plot. I haven't read Harris's novel, but from what I have read about it, beyond changing some data, names and nationalities, the story shown on screen remained quite faithful to the book. Conclave is a good film, I don't know if it has eight nominations when so many other good films of the year didn't get any, but it's an entertaining story and although I am surprised that even in 2025 there is still interest in stories about the Catholic Church (I thought they had exhausted themselves with Morris West, Dan Brown and Fernando Meirelles' film) I understand that at the end of the day it's one of the largest religious congregations in the world, how many of you have already seen Conclave? what did you think about it? I read you in the comments.

The film, a papal political thriller, offers viewers a deep dive into the meticulous and ritualistic process of electing a new Pope—the leader of the Roman Catholic Church and sovereign of the world’s smallest state, the Vatican.

At the heart of the story is Cardinal Dean Lawrence (Ralph Fiennes), tasked with orchestrating the process known as the Papal Conclave. This centuries-old tradition dictates that all Cardinals participating in the election must remain locked (conclave > cum clave – with a key) inside the Sistine Chapel until a new representative of the Church is chosen.

Intrigue, political maneuvering, ideological clashes between conservatives and progressives, skeletons from the candidates’ closets that could tarnish the Church’s reputation, and crises both within and outside the Sistine Chapel’s walls are just some of the challenges facing Cardinal Lawrence. Ralph Fiennes portrays the role with remarkable skill, exuding a calm demeanor and profound sense of duty that resonate with the audience.

While the role may not demand the intensity of some of Fiennes' past performances (e.g., Lord Voldemort in the Harry Potter franchise), he masterfully conveys the gravity and inner conflict required for this character.

Supporting him are an exceptional cast: Isabella Rossellini shines in a small but pivotal role, while John Lithgow delivers yet another outstanding performance, proving his range, from Winston Churchill in The Crown to Barney Stinson's father in How I Met Your Mother. And then there's Stanley Tucci—a phenomenon in his own right, consistently delivering flawless performances throughout his career.

Special mention goes to the film’s music, which enhances its dramatic and solemn atmosphere, and to the costumes, which are meticulously crafted to reflect the grandeur and traditions of the Roman Catholic Church.

The direction deserves praise, particularly in the film’s latter moments, where an intentional air of mystery is created around the outcome. The cinematography is polished, and attention to detail ensures authenticity in representing Church protocol.

Verdict: While Conclave tackles a niche subject, it holds a certain appeal, akin to political dramas that delve into power dynamics and intrigue. Personally, I found it both enlightening—learning details I hadn’t previously considered—and enjoyable for its measured, thoughtful performances.

The only downside? The abrupt ending. It felt as though the conclusion didn’t quite land as intended, leaving a sense of incompleteness.

That said, for those who stick with it, Conclave offers a captivating glimpse into a world of tradition, power, and the human flaws that shape even the most sacred decisions.

One of the places where there will surely be many secrets behind those doors is in the Vatican, a place where very few people are in charge of being able to pass, so it creates that great mystery of what will be hidden there, however, in the world of cinema there have been a couple of movies about that place and each of them brings certain important things that one is speechless and how they are making decisions. Many of these movies are kind of documentaries and others that are horror, but they go to the same point of showing the Vatican as a sacred place and only the popes circulate and without saying many words about it.

This new production once again we go to the Vatican to live a horror experience with the latest film known as Conclave, which to begin with is a very unique name, but with a great meaning, it is also one of the bets of a great director in order to take this production to another level and seek to reveal more details about the Vatican and for those who have never gone to ask many questions. Where this installment will take us to witness one of the most difficult moments as it is to elect a new spiritual leader and it is noted how in real life as in the film enter a couple of factors such as negotiation, betrayal, lies and especially hatred among the people of that place and leads us to wonder who will be able to vote, will be a clean election, will there be a new leader, will there be a new leader? And many other things, since behind this Vatican what is left over is terror.

    image.png Source

It is a very interesting production, it is not much of my style, but I found it very interesting how they were playing and recreating the whole plot of this installment and many details are coming out that one is left speechless, since religious people who have been dedicated to that all their lives, seem to have a dual personality. Also, other things that I find interesting and it is the first time I saw it is how they have to choose that new leader and to be something so modern, powerful and religious they go for the votes, something that is so treacherous and even more each of the ranks that exist there, as well as the preferences for someone favorable to win.

    image.png Source

Everything develops very well and allows one to get hooked and watch it until the end, as this drama becomes denser and stronger everything is to be able to reveal this new leader, so the proposal of this director was very good, since it is something new and that every so often within the Vatican happens or with the death of someone, starting the political game. Beyond that it is a film that also preserves every detail very well and allows the scenes to be very well developed, even though most of the film is in one place, playing very well the dialogues and the key words used by those people to refer to certain things and of course the clothes they wear is shocking and I in my case would not stand a couple of hours with that, since it would already give me a lot of heat and that's why you keep every detail of the Vatican gives it a special touch.

The actors are very good especially the great main actor Ralph Fiennes, who has excelled in many films, no doubt in this one will be in charge of carrying out the whole election process and that it comes out in a fair way, so his way of thinking and acting in that moment where a bad decision can go wrong and the best thing is that it helps the whole drama of this movie is great and does not turn into a fight. The other actors look good to me and are there just waiting to be cast and each one is revealing details of their lives which makes it a combination of elements and differences.

A movie that for the time it lasts, managed to exceed each of the expectations and even more to know that it was inspired by real events is impressive, because beyond being the Vatican influence aspects that even if one does not want to touch them will be there and therefore it will be a political game and faith in the middle, to know who will be the chosen one. I saw this movie this weekend thanks to the recommendation of my great friend @musicandreview, who also has the intrigue of visiting the Vatican.

  15. (ESP-ENG) Cónclave | A look inside the church - Movie Review!@javyeslava.photo569d

    **

Hola amigos, buenas vibras para todos.

    **

Hello friends, good vibes to all.

    Source!

How much fiction can there be in this type of film? - I think that is the existential doubt of all of us who have seen this kind of stories. In church and religious themes there will always be speculations about conspiracies and hidden agendas that give way to this type of films and that undoubtedly attract a lot of attention and end up being very attractive to watch. Conclave is a thriller full of intrigue, drama and suspense that focuses on this famous “meeting” of cardinals that takes place after the death of a Pope. It is up to each one to believe if this can happen or has already happened within the Catholic Church; in the end these people in cassocks are simple men who make mistakes and even sin.

All this begins with the sudden death of the Pope. Cardinal Lawrence (Ralph Fiennes) is the dean in charge of carrying out this millenary and ancient ceremony that involves the election of a new Supreme Pontiff. This is what is known as the Conclave. All the cardinals of the world are called to the Vatican to begin a voting process that can last several days. During this time they are in a kind of retreat or isolation so that their decisions are not influenced by outside factors. Also during this time, negotiations, agreements and deals will have to be made to arrive in the wisest and most effective way possible at the final vote that will reveal the next chosen one.

    image.png

    Source!

So, what happens? - Well, in the middle of this ritual, discussions begin to take place, secrets begin to come out and conspiracies will be the order of the day. The film is basically the whole process until the election of the new Pope. The first thing we have to understand is that at the end of the day this is not a religious election, but a political one; hence the importance given to the way of thinking, the vision of the world, the relations that these cardinals can offer with the other leaders, etc. Obviously the image of the church will be a factor to be taken care of, since there are still backward, traditional doctrines within the church that may clash with today's world, and this is very much seen in this film.

This has been one of the best films I have seen this year, both for the construction of the plot, the performances, the cast and especially for the visuals it brings us. The plot takes us into a conflict of interests between the various factions among the cardinals, this power struggle to see who gets to the office that turns out to be very interesting. The story seems to follow a path but the really good thing is that at the end we have a plot twist, perhaps somewhat predictable, but still surprising. I say predictable because when we see the first scenes of this angle of the story we already sense that things are going to happen on that side. This does not detract from its depth or interest.

The visuals are spectacular, the photography, the framing, the setting, everything symmetrical and aesthetic that can be a scene will be appreciated in this film. It is really a pleasure to watch it, the cinematography is very top notch. It is very noticeable how well done everything is, beyond the plot, which is what really interests this aspect is what stands out the most. We must talk about the cast, I was surprised by the amount of good actors there are: Isabella Rossellini, Stanley Tucci, John Lithgow, Lucian Msamati, etc.. All first class actors who play their characters to perfection. I don't see any flaws here, I think Fiennes' performance is very good, we know what a great actor he is but yes, he stands out a lot in this film.

In conclusion, this is a very good film and worth sitting down to enjoy it. As I said these topics will always be controversial and interesting because it is an open secret that these things may, or may not, really happen behind the walls of the Vatican. For me it's an 8.5/10. It's two hours long but it goes by really fast. I leave the trailer below.

  16. Conclave // An unprecedented look inside the Vatican@musicandreview570d

It has always called my attention to know what happens behind the doors of the Vatican, frankly it does not seem to me a place that is sacred because it is run by men who like me make mistakes every day, however, I will not belittle the activities, work and decisions that are made there, I also know that there is a great story behind. I became more interested in this subject after watching the movies inspired by the books “Angels and Demons” and “The Da Vinci Code”. I think those movies aroused a great curiosity in me, even though it is obvious that I am totally clear that they are fiction. “The Two Popes” was also an interesting enough movie to feed my curiosity, that one starring Anthony Hopkins and Jonathan Pryce.

Thus, this same 2024 “Conclave”, a film directed by Edward Berger whom I know only for directing the series “The Terror” (which I recommend with my eyes closed), arrived in theaters. From the first moment I saw the trailer I was curious and the fact that there was such a prestigious line of actors gave me to understand that I would see a very good movie, who starred Ralph Fiennes, Stanley Tucci, Isabella Rossellini, among others who did a very good job.

    conclave.png

    Source

To give you a little context, a conclave is an activity or ceremony that takes place after the death of a pope, it seeks to elect the new pope and the election is done through a vote in which a certain amount of votes is required, this amount is not by simple majority, but by a majority already established that if I remember correctly must be at least 72 votes, those who vote are the cardinals. A conclave seems to be a simple meeting to elect the new pope, but history has shown that it is much more than that, there have always been delays and inconveniences since not all cardinals have a consensus or preference for someone specific.

Having clarified this, in the film we see with a lot of drama what happens behind the doors of such an important and transcendental meeting for the history and future of the Catholic Church. Here we see how some people want to win and try to make tricks that give them advantages over others, and well, we know that from the Christian point of view there are things that can be seen as a dirty game, it is more like a political game and not a religious one. The truth is that this is where the role of the dean, played masterfully by Ralph Fiennes, plays a fundamental role since it is he who must ensure that the conclave is carried out in the cleanest and fairest way possible.

But I fear that many cardinals do not aspire to win in the fairest way, some even cross the line by betraying and buying companions. While it is true that the film is fiction, I do not doubt that situations like these have been experienced throughout history, as I said, it is men who occupy these positions and beyond apparently being closer to God, I guess they can not help but feel ambition to sit in the papal chair even if they do not deserve it.

    CONCLAVE - Official Trailer

I think this is a film that handles drama and suspense quite well as it builds and leaves clues of what could be the outcome of the conclave, but what I like most is that it does not skimp on creating characters that leave the church in a very bad light, even when we know it is fiction, that boldness plays in favor of the entertainment of the viewer. The performances are all very good, each actor fulfilled his role and contributed to give a good drama to this film that tries to give us an unprecedented look at what happens in the election of an event as media and speculative as the election of a Pope.

The movies that are inspired by events that are lived in reality are very attractive to me, although it is true that this one is not entirely inspired by real events, it does a good job showing us situations that I do not rule out that could hypothetically occur in a conclave. So if it calls your attention or if you are curious to know in more depth what happens in a place as enigmatic as the Vatican, then I recommend you to see this movie, it is not very long and is quite entertaining.

These days I've been doing with my mom a little movie marathon and the one chosen last night was "Conclave" which honestly I wasn't too happy to see because the PTSD of studying in a Catholic school is real but having Ralph Fiennes as the main character I knew it was going to be something of quality, so I decided to watch it with the most open mind possible.

The film, as the name implies, narrates the events surrounding a conclave held to elect a new pope, which naturally is not an easy undertaking. Cardinal Lawrence (Fiennes) is in charge of organizing and carrying out the elections, in this task he discovers a network of secrets that make the favorite cardinals less suitable or even more suitable for the position, but what exactly is to be the most suitable? someone who has no sins or someone who has hit and repents. On the other hand, we have a very interesting contest, is it necessary for the church to return to conservatism or to follow the liberal path that the pope to be relieved was taking.

Doubts are generated about faith and service to God, we even see the sin of first form in the protagonist for wanting to impose himself as "what should be". We really see an impeccable performance by Ralph Fiennes who always keeps us on tenterhooks about what will happen or what new information we will discover. There are also very interesting performances such as Isabella Rossellini playing the role of sister Agnes, who in a way represents the eyes and legacy of the deceased father. And also, the film has a very interesting plot twist, which left us questioning many things.

After watching the film I understood why it has the fame of an Oscar contender, the performances, plus all the set and costume design that are impeccable, coupled with a series of questions that we sow that serve not only for those who are Catholics, but as human beings and an excellent adaptation of the script, are the perfect recipe for an excellent film.

I recommend watching it, I give it 4.5/5.

    🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿

      ‘

This film is a co-production between the United States and the United Kingdom, based on the novel by Robert Harris.

Filled with tension and intrigue, it deals with issues of great relevance, such as doubts about faith, the hypocrisy of certain sectors of the Catholic Church, internal power struggles and the deepest secrets of human nature, which is always imperfect.

Although the film has a large cast, most of the weight falls on Ralph Fiennes, who plays a cardinal who acts as the detective in the midst of the power struggle within the church.

His performance is outstanding and could earn him a nomination in the future. Other international actors also have their moments, but with less screen time, they are less relevant.

    [Source](https://www.filmaffinity.com/ve/filmimages.php?movie_id=159138)

      ‘

Among them, Stanley Tucci and John Lithgow stand out. Although both are good actors, in Lithgow's case, I was not entirely convinced by his performance; he fails to fully reflect what is said about his character and his intentions and plans are not explored in depth, resulting in a somewhat diffuse performance and a blurred character.

The costumes and sets are well done, although the corridors of the convent are a little overused.

While there shouldn't be too much variety due to the context of the film, at times the setting felt a little repetitive and poor.

However, the other settings are very well detailed; although it wasn't filmed in the Sistine Chapel, it manages to look like it.

I understand that it was shot in one of the most iconic studios in the history of cinema, Cinecittà.

In ‘Conclave’, the disputes of interests among the cardinals, the ideological changes in the church and sensitive issues such as abuse and doubt in the faith of some cardinals are evident. In short, the film humanises both the cardinals and the Pope.

The soundtrack, already a discovery in the composer's previous film, continues to surprise in this one. It accompanies each scene, bringing emotion to the plot, although it does not present a great variety of themes.

As for the adaptation, I don't know the original book, but the pacing is adequate and the adaptation is in line with what is expected of a film of this genre.

The plot twists are bold and may be risky for certain audiences, but they are well integrated into the narrative.

Personally, I find these twists to be unexpected and Edward Berger manages to tell them in the best possible way.
