As a single pringle, I have no business with whatever is going on today. I had enough on TikTok and almost bawled my eyes out but then, I remembered I could distract myself for a while by watching a messed up love story. So, I went in search and got the perfect film for that purpose. Lol.

Deep Water, is a psychological thriller that promises suspense, tension while shedding light into the complexities of marriage and desire. With Adrian Lyne, the director of Fatal Attraction and Unfaithful, at the helm, I expected a gripping exploration of obsession and jealousy but what I got was a film that simmers with potential but struggles to reach a satisfying boil.

Synopsis

The movie follows Vic (Ben Affleck) and Melinda Van Allen (Ana de Armas), a wealthy married couple trapped in a loveless, tension, jealousy filled relationship but instead of divorcing, they maintain an unusual arrangement. Melinda is free to pursue other lovers, while Vic feigns to tolerate her affairs. However, when Melinda’s lovers begin to disappear under mysterious circumstances, suspicion falls on Vic.

Review and Personal Criticism

One thing this movie thrives on is atmosphere. Adrian Lyne creates a world that feels sultry and unsettling, using slow-burning tension to make the audience uncomfortable. The cinematography, with its dimly lit interiors and shadowy frames, perfectly captures the toxicity of Vic and Melinda’s marriage which I applaud.

Ben Affleck gives a strong performance, embodying Vic’s quiet, brooding demeanor with chilling precision. His expressions say more than his words, creating a character who is both pitiful and menacing. Ana de Armas, on the other hand, brings a provocative intensity to Melinda, though the script limits her character’s depth as she is reduced to a mere object of desire and cruelty which was somewhat annoying.

I also admire the chemistry between Affleck and de Armas. It’s palpable, but the film struggles with its pacing. While the tension builds nicely in the first half, the middle drags, and the plot becomes kinda repetitive. The scenes of Melinda’s affairs and Vic’s passive-aggressive responses begin to feel like a cycle without escalation.

One of my biggest criticisms is the film’s handling of suspense. The central mystery, whether Vic is responsible for the deaths, is undercut by how early the movie reveals its cards. There’s little ambiguity, which diminishes the psychological edge that could have kept me guessing. The final act feels rushed and unsatisfying, with a conclusion that leaves more questions than answers.

The film also misses an opportunity to explore deeper themes. It does hint at the complexities of power, control, and resentment in marriage but never fully commits to these ideas. Instead, it settles for surface level tension and shock value.

It does offer an intriguing premise and strong performances, but it struggles to deliver on its potential. The slow-burn tension and toxic relationship narrative are engaging, but the payoff feels weak due to predictable plot turns and an underwhelming climax. It’s a film that flirts with greatness but ultimately sinks into mediocrity.

Hello dear Hive community, I hope you are having a great week in your daily tasks, today I come to talk about a movie which I saw and I think it is the worst I've seen starting this year without lying, I expected one thing and I ended up losing two hours of my life and I'm talking about "Deep Water" or "Aguas Profundas" in Spanish.

Hola querida comunidad de Hive, espero este teniendo una grata semana en sus tareas diarias, el día de hoy vengo hablarles sobre una película la cual vi y creo que es lo peor que he visto comenzando e año sin mentir, espere una cosa y termine perdiendo dos horas de mi vida y estoy hablando de “Deep Water” o “Aguas Profundas” en español.

This movie stars Ana de Armas, an actress I really liked when I saw Between Knives and Secrets, this time she plays Melinda Van Allen, we have Ben Affleck as Vic Van Allen, Jacob Elordi as Charlie de Lisle, Brendan Miller as Joel among other actors, ok let's talk about what it's about and what really caught my attention is the fact that she has lovers (the husband knows) but it turns out that they die making him the main suspect.

Esta película cuenta con la actuación de Ana de Armas una actriz que me gustó mucho cuando vi Entre Navajas y Secretos en esta ocasión ella interpreta a Melinda Van Allen, tenemos a Ben Affleck como Vic Van Allen, Jacob Elordi como Charlie de Lisle, Brendan Miller como Joel entre otros actores, ok hablemos de que trata y es que lo que realmente me llamo la atención el hecho de que ella tiene amantes (el marido sabe) pero resulta que ellos mueren haciéndolo el principal sospechoso.

Something I really enjoy when watching in movie format are thrillers, mystery and suspense is always a good category especially when you want to focus on what you're good at and disconnect with the world, in this movie I was expecting to find that with a good thiller, watch out what I will say next because it is Spoiler (I was hoping he wasn't the killer and he had to find out what was going on) but nope.

Algo que disfruto mucho a la hora de ver en formato de película son los thiller, el misterio y suspenso siempre es una buena categoría sobre todo cuando quieres concentrarte en lo que estás bien y desconectar con el mundo, en esta película esperaba encontrarme con eso con un buen thiller, ojo con lo que diré a continuación porque es Spoiler (yo esperaba que el no fuera el asesino y el tuviera que descubrir que estaba pasando) pero no.

We have a super toxic couple in every sense of the word, from the first minutes we see how Melinda is a very liberal woman and also throughout the film it is reflected that she is not very happy with her marriage as she always makes derogatory comments towards her partner, on the other hand Vic is a very serene man (those people you have to be afraid of) who for a strange reason accepts everything to his wife, but it turns out that the damned man is like a psychopath.

Tenemos a una pareja súper toxica en todos los sentidos de la palabra, desde los primeros minutos vemos como Melinda es una mujer bastante liberal y también a lo largo de la película se refleja que no está muy contenta con su matrimonio ya que siempre hace comentarios despectivo hacia su pareja, por otro lado Vic es un hombre bastante sereno (a esas personas hay que tenerles miedo) que por una extraña razón le acepta todo a su esposa, pero resulta que el muy condenado es como psicópata.

I feel that it is very tedious, a murder doesn't happen until almost after an hour and I feel that they didn't give it the suspense that they should have given it, on the other hand I couldn't stand Merlinda, I feel that she was a very detestable character that did what she wanted and based on that they take out the erotic, the truth I feel that those parts are well done because they didn't have to undress anyone to make it sexy, but for me it doesn't mean that the movie was bad. I mean there were even dead people and I saw no trace of the police, just an interrogation and that's it.

Siento que es muy tediosa, no pasa un asesinato hasta casi después de una hora y siento que no le dieron el suspenso que debían darle, por otro lado no aguante a Merlinda siento que era un personaje muy detestable que hacia lo que quería y en base a eso sacan lo erótico, la verdad siento que esas partes están bien logradas porque no tuvieron que desnudar a nadie para que resultara sexy, pero para mi persona no quita que la película fuera mala. O sea habían hasta muertos y no vi rastro de la policía, solo un interrogatorio y ya.

I mean, there were even dead people and I saw no trace of the police, just an interrogation and that's it. Give me real investigations, tension that they are going to catch him and when that tension is the most exciting scene and it is at the end and ends in a way that I did not like, maybe... the most remarkable thing is to see that in the end these people are crazy and ends with a half open ending implying that they will continue in the same and nothing will happen, so I give it 2/10 has been the worst movie I've seen so far this year.

O sea habían hasta muertos y no vi rastro de la policía, solo un interrogatorio y ya. Denme investigaciones de verdad, tensión de que lo vayan atrapar y cuando esa tención esta resulta que es la escena más emocionante y esta al final y termina de una manera que no me gusto, tal vez…lo más rescatable es ver que al final esta gente si está loca y termina con un final medio abierto dando a entender que seguirán en lo mismo y no pasara nada, por ello le doy 2/10 ha sido la peor película que he visto en lo que va de año.

This is a film framed within what is a psychological and erotic thriller based on the novel of the same name by Patricia Highsmith, with a screenplay by Zach Helm and Sam Levinson and directed by Adrian Lyne who was nominated for an Oscar as best director in 1988 for the film Fatal Attraction starring Glenn Close, Michael Douglas and Anne Archer.

The plot revolves around a dysfunctional marriage who to avoid the mess of divorce he allows her to have any number of lovers as long as she does not abandon her family.

Hoy traigo algo de carta diferente, pues le he montado los cuernos a Neftlix por un rato para compartir con la familia de mi pareja una velada bastante profunda. Lo digo por el titulo de la película que vimos en Prime video la noche anterior. Y es que la verdad tiene una profundidad y unos niveles inimaginables.

Today I bring a different kind of card, as I have mounted the horns to Neftlix for a while to share with my partner's family a pretty deep evening. I say this because of the title of the movie we saw in Prime video the night before. And the truth is that it has unimaginable depth and levels.

En mi vida me había reído tanto y no por el hecho de que sea una trama de comedia, en lo absoluto, más bien es por lo absurdo de los hechos y ciertos eventos que me hacen pensar que todos en la película tienen una condición o unos fetiches bastantes arraigados y extraños.

I have never laughed so much in my life and not because it is a comedy plot, not at all, but rather because of the absurdity of the facts and certain events that make me think that everyone in the film has a condition or some quite ingrained and strange fetishes.

Jamás llegamos a pensar que iba a ser una película donde se reflejara tanta sexualidad, suciedad y problemas de parejas disparejas. Es decir, hasta las parejas amigas de este matrimonio son locos o tienen una personalidad bastante fuera de lo común.

We never thought it was going to be a film where so much sexuality, filth and problems of mismatched couples would be reflected. That is to say, even the couple friends of this marriage are crazy or have a personality quite out of the ordinary.

Así como empieza la película tal cual termina. Hubo un momento en que pensé que había una cierta perdida que los llevo a tener una relación tan desordenada e infiel como se muestra, sin embargo, deja en claro que más bien puede haber miles de pensamientos en que juntas concluyen que un amor de este índole es exageradamente toxico.

As the film begins, so does it end. There was a moment when I thought there was a certain loss that led them to have such a messy and unfaithful relationship as shown, however, it makes it clear that there can be thousands of thoughts in which together they conclude that a love of this kind is overly toxic.

Las películas donde involucran desnudismo para mi es bastante incomodo cuando se trata que lo estamos viendo en familia, sin embargo, todos nos pusimos de acuerdo y tomamos todo como una comedia, porque en cierto punto las cosas absurdas e ilógicas solo de ese modo se pueden tomar.

The movies involving nudity for me is quite uncomfortable when we are watching it as a family, however, we all agreed and took everything as a comedy, because at a certain point the absurd and illogical things can only be taken that way.

Que te roben y tu mismo llevar al ladrón para que te robe es algo por lo cual reírse a carcajadas, hasta que llega el punto en que la trama empieza a ponerse serio cuando un hombre involucrado entre esta pareja desaparece y luego con el tiempo aparece muerto.

Being robbed and you yourself taking the thief to be robbed is something to laugh out loud at, until the point where the plot starts to get serious when a man involved in this couple disappears and then eventually turns up dead.

Al instante pensé que había sido un arranque de celos y que el esposo mató a la persona, pero al terminar de ver la película sobre este hecho nunca se supo quien era el culpable, más bien es algo que se lo dejan al pensamiento de los espectadores.

I instantly thought it was a jealous outburst and that the husband killed the person, but by the end of the movie it was never clear who the culprit was, rather it is left to the viewers' thoughts.

No recuerdo haber visto actuar a Ana de Armas, sin embargo supongo que tuvo que ser un poco difícil para ella grabar ciertas escenas repetitivas de infidelidad y eroticas que pues, te roban el aliento porque son bastantes atrevidas a lo que he visto hasta ahora.

I don't remember having seen Ana de Armas act, however I guess it must have been a little difficult for her to record certain repetitive scenes of infidelity and eroticism that steal your breath away because they are quite daring from what I have seen so far.

No considero del todo que la película sea mala, más bien creo que toca un tema importante de infidelidad y lo que es tentar al diablo en relación a un sentimiento.

I don't consider the film to be bad at all, but rather I think it touches on an important theme of infidelity and what it is to tempt the devil in relation to a feeling.

Además esta claro que hay un circulo vicioso entre la infidelidad, un tanto de fetichismo por ambas partes y algo de pensamiento sínico en la esposa quien por un momento pensé que era esquizofrénica. Cabe acotar que esto no se descarta en la trama, pues hay muchos indicios de que ella tengo un estado mental nada saludable.

It is also clear that there is a vicious circle between infidelity, a bit of fetishism on both sides and a bit of synchronic thinking in the wife, who for a moment I thought was schizophrenic. It should be noted that this is not ruled out in the plot, as there are many indications that she is in an unhealthy state of mind.

El problema que veo aquí es que las escenas son muy repetitivas y por supuesto que se hace todo evidente, por lo que se hace bastante lenta al ser un mismo recorrido.

At first you don't understand the relationship between the title and the plot, but as the most important events unfold you understand that it's not the depth of the relationship and the possible understanding you have about the facts, it's because they literally use the depths of the waters.

El rol de ben Affleck muestra un amor bastante retorcido, la única forma de pensar que alguien puede soportar tanto es lo que había comentado con anterioridad, que efectivamente su esposa tuviese una condición mental.

Ben Affleck's role shows a rather twisted love, the only way I can think that someone can put up with so much is what I had previously commented, that indeed his wife had a mental condition.

Para ser la primera película que veo en Prime Video no ha sido todo mal, pues nos reímos mucho esa noche, pero si fuese otro tipo de ambiente con otras personas, hubiese sido un total desastre.

For the first movie I've seen on Prime Video it wasn't all bad, as we laughed a lot that night, but if it was another type of environment with other people, it would have been a total disaster.

'Deep Water' is an erotic psychological thriller that was released on the 18th of March 2022. This movie marks the comeback of Adrian Lyne the director of the movie, after twenty years of no project film. This movie was based on a book written in 1957 by Patricia Highsmith with the same title as the movie. The movie stars Ben Affleck, Ana de Armas, Tracy Letts, and other actors and actresses. It was distributed by Hulu and Amazon Studios.

Little Synopsis

Van (Ben Affleck) and his wife Melinda lived in a small town with their little daughter Trixie. Van and Melinda's marriage is not like the normal marriage we know of but a weird one for me. The people of the town already know the couple is in an open marriage, but with an uncertain arrangement whereby the wife can be with different lovers as far as she can stay with her family to avoid divorce.

Even though their marriage situation is out in the open, Vic, a retired robotics engineer, grows jealous every time he sees his wife with her various lovers. One day, Melinda invited one of her lovers, Joel, to their house party. Unfortunately for Joel, he was left alone with Vic sometime during the party. So Vic used the opportunity to indirectly threaten him by telling him that he killed his previous wife's lover. That made Joel scared for his life. The story got around the social group in which questions were asked for the truth. Then later it was discovered that Martin, Melinda's previous lover, was found dead, shot by someone else.

One of Vic's friends, Don Wilson, a writer became suspicious of Vic by asking questions that required the truth. Melinda's next lover came over to a house party organized by one of Vic's friends. During the party, everyone was swimming and having fun, while Melinda and her new lover were busy flaunting their affection in the swimming pool where Vic was present. It starts to rain heavily suddenly and everyone rushes inside except Melinda's new lover and Vic. A few minutes later Melinda's lover's body was found floating, obviously from drowning.

The circle continued until Melinda found one of her current lover's wallets in Vic's possession and decided she was leaving. She began to pack all her belongings when her daughter, Trixie saw her. Did Melinda leave her husband? You have to find out when you watch the movie.

My Opinion About The Movie

I didn't enjoy this movie at all. It was a waste of my time and it was a waste of resources. The resources used to produce this movie can be used to produce some unique books out there waiting and begging to be scripted. Yes, the movie was organized well but why watch a movie that depicts confusion in a lifestyle. Is the movie made to encourage a confused lifestyle? I feel that the movie shouldn't have been produced starring Ben Affleck as the main character. Though he synchronized well with his role, but the movie was not worthy of his time. After I finished watching the movie, I was discombobulated and lost for a moment. I couldn't believe I wasted 1hr 58 mins without learning anything good from the movie.

The setting and plot were okay, the characters played their roles well, but the movie was senseless. The visual was convenient, but there was one brutal scene in the movie. A scene almost at the end, when Vic killed Melinda's new lover, Tony in the woods and sinks his body into the river with a large stone to cover his tracks. That scene was ouch!

My Ratings and Recommendations

I will be rating this movie with 2 stars. If it were up to me, I wouldn't recommend this movie to anyone, but this movie can be recommended to those who love thrillers and psychological thrillers. A similar movie like this movie is 'Gone Girl'.

Hola amigos, bienvenidos a mi blog, hoy quiero hablarle de esta cinta que cuando leí su sinopsis me pareció interesante de ver, esta basado en el libro del mismo nombre, escrito por Patricia Highsmith, 1957. Esta cinta es la adaptación mediocre en mi opinión de este libro que en su momento fue una excelente novela. Un thriller psicológico donde retratada la relación enfermiza de una pareja. Con una adaptación y guion de Sam Levison, Zach Helm, además de la direccion de Adrian Lyne, nos llega esta cinta a través de Amazon Prime.

La película protagonizada por Ben Affleck (Vic Van Allen), es un genio multimillonario quien está casado con Ana de Armas (Melinda), quien es una mujer que le gusta divertirse con otros hombres delante de su esposo. Tiene una hija, Grace Jenkins, quien a su corta edad brilla en esta cinta y es una de las pocas cosas rescatables de la película que durante 115 minutos está llena de malas actuaciones por parte de sus protagonistas y que no generan ninguna emoción aparte de aburrimiento.

A pesar de contar con un director de la talla de Adrian Lyne, quien es un especialista en películas de este tipo, recordemos sus éxitos como: “Atracción Fatal” o “Una propuesta Indecente”, películas que lograron colocar en la palestra las relaciones matrimoniales que son llevadas a situaciones limites y que nos mostraron de manera no solo entretenida sino inteligente como estas situaciones rápidamente pueden devenir en tragedias y trastocar las relaciones. Esta vez se quedo corto no solo con un guion flojo que no mantiene al espectador atento, sino que no profundiza en la relación de la pareja, solo se quedo en lo superficial de las escenas eróticas y actuaciones que no generan emoción.

As I do not want to give any kind of spoiler so that it is you, if you decide to see the movie, give your impartial opinion of it, I will only talk about my impressions and particular opinions of it. I have never been a fan of Ben Affleck as an actor, but in this film his performance as a husband, who accepts a dysfunctional and sick relationship, leaves much to be desired, lacks total credibility and at times it seems to me that he overacts to try to give his character that veil of intelligent psychopath in the style of Anthony Hopkins in Hannibal Lecter. Not to mention her co-star Ana de Armas, in her performance as Melinda, throughout the film she only tries to be the femme fatale, in the style of Sharon Stone in nine and a half weeks, but she fails to fit into that style of woman.

Como no deseo dar ningún tipo de spoiler para que seas tú, si decides ver la película des tú opinión imparcial de la misma, solo hablaré de mis impresiones y opiniones particulares de la misma. Nunca he sido fan de Ben Affleck como actor, pero en esta cinta su actuación como un esposo, que acepta una relación disfuncional y enfermiza deja mucho que desear, carece de total credibilidad y por momentos me parece que sobreactúa para tratar de darle a su personaje ese velo de psicópata inteligente al estilo de Anthony Hopkins en Hannibal Lecter. Ni hablar de su coestrella Ana de Armas, en su actuación de Melinda, durante toda la cinta solo trata de ser la femme fatal, al estilo de Sharon Stone en nueve semana y medias, pero no logra encajar en ese estilo de mujer.

If I have to say something about this film, it is the little debutante Grace, who acts as the daughter of the couple, she steals the scenes in every shot that appears, her charisma and naturalness is impressive for a girl her age. I hope to see her in other tapes because the truth is that I am impressed. The tape has other redeemable moments, but few. For me this movie has 4 in my rating of 10.

Si algo debo decir de esta cinta es la pequeña debutante Grace, quien actúa como la hija del matrimonio, ella se roba las escenas en cada toma que aparece, su carisma y naturalidad es impresionante para una niña de su edad. Espero verla en otras cintas porque la verdad me impresiono. La cinta tiene otros momentos rescatables, pero pocos. Para mi esta película tiene 4 en mi calificación de 10.

When we talk about cinema it is always difficult, perhaps impossible to make rankings, to determine beyond any reasonable doubt which are the best films, the best actors or the best directors. A huge effort that should take into account an infinite number of films, characters and filmmakers first and foremost, and for each of them it would be necessary to evaluate too many things that are difficult to objectify, from the historical scope of the film to the technical field, from dialogue to individual facial expressions, from photography to editing, from the script to the effect of that film on the minds and souls of the spectators.

A titanic feat in short.

Fortunately, however, there are artists who manage to facilitate the work of the critics thanks to their peculiar genius, their originality and stylistic feature that makes them unique, unmistakable, true unicorns in the history of cinema, who avoid schematization, standardization and ranking.

One of these is, beyond any reasonable doubt, David Lynch.

The director of Missoula, on the threshold of 73 years, is today considered a unicum in the cinematic panorama, thanks to his films, of course, but also thanks to his method and his overall vision.

According to the director himself, his creativity has been influenced by transcendental meditation, a practice that for over 30 years without ever missing a session, he typically practices at least two a day, once in the morning and once in the afternoon for about twenty minutes.

Lynch defines this experience as the only one in the world for which the adjective indescribable should be used.

During these "dives" within oneself, the consciousness dilates, managing to open one's mind immeasurably, clutching oneself to millions of possibilities that had always been there but which without that deep perception of our ego, of our world, would have been impossible to grasp.

One of the most famous comparisons that the artist from Missoula loves to make when talking about transcendental meditation is the one between ideas and fish, water, a comparison that he explains very well in his book "Acque Profonde".

Ideas are similar to fish. If you want to catch a small fish, just stay in shallow water. If you want to catch a big fish, you have to go down into deep water. Down there the fish are stronger, they're purer. They're huge and abstract. Really beautiful. Anyone who's seen Twin Peaks, Mullholand Drive, Inland Empire, Lost Highway, Eraserhead and all the other David Lynch masterpieces will have no trouble believing the director's words.

v No one more than him, in fact, has tried to dig into the human mind, showing the impossible, showing the unknown and always and only writing non-linear scripts, not immediately comprehensible but which tried, precisely, to dilate the very consciousness of the story, as if the story was something self-conscious that should, therefore, flow freely in search of its own self, its own meaning.

Nothing that has produced Lynch's mind is even remotely comparable to something seen before, and perhaps we shall never see works of such complexity and audacity in the future.

For Lynch, a film must be pure and untouched.

He himself confessed that he does not like the extra content on film DVDs as it would be a contamination of the film itself. Every film must be interpreted, loved, hated and understood in a unique way by every viewer.

It is the film, and only the film, that must communicate, that must express itself.

That's why we don't need words, comments or statements to corollary it but only a TV, maybe a pair of headphones and a few hours of total immersion in the film, just as if it were a meditative practice.

Lynch loves the French, he loves their way of thinking about cinema because he is on the same wavelength as the director of Twin Peaks.

He thinks that no one should ever invade the field of the creator of a film. Just as a painting is painted from top to bottom by the painter who brushes it, so too a film should be born from the director's mind from top to bottom, without interference, deciding how to edit it, which soundtrack to use, how long it should last and what to show.

Total freedom, just as if you were in an ocean, in free and deep waters, learning to know yourself and capturing every idea as if it were the best possible.

If you love cinema and you don't know David Lynch, take cover, maybe you'll hate him, maybe you won't understand his films but you'll be dismayed and at the same time fascinated by his unique style and poetics.
