    Hello to my dear Readers,

So lately, we’ve had all these serious anime reviews, and yeah that means I’m watching some mind-boggling anime which requires a certain amount of brain power, for you to process the different theories presented in those, and for once, maybe even contemplate about your own existence, or simply think big and vast kind of thing. So yeah, now it’s time for something light-hearted.

    Dungeons and Monsters

An old concept, yada yada, we all know what happens, there’s some big dungeon with all these floors and you go defeating the monsters in those, and eventually you gear up and level up and the aim is to defeat some final boss or gain immortality or something big at the end. Forming parties is very common too. And so, this is all too common if you’ve watched such anime or even played such games. A good example is Solo levelling (LOL lemme know in the comments if you want a review on this masterpiece too)

    Specialty in the Dungeon plot

And so, that leaves us to the main part, what makes the plot unique or wholesome enough to carry on with the anime or make it worth watching. For delicious in dungeon, well yeah, it’s easy to guess, the food! Of course. I must admit, defeating monsters, typical, eating monsters after defeating them, surprise surprise lol. So, we already know how delicious food looks in anime, and how it makes you wanna live in a Ghibli movie just so you can taste the food which looks aesthetically pleasing and delicious at the same time, so it is wholesome to watch. So yeah, there’s your number 1 reason to go watch delicious in dungeon.

The Laid-back plot and the Light-heartedness

Okay so most dungeon plots are way more intense and serious, but for this anime, I’m saying no Pressure, just chill and enjoy. They have all kinds of interesting arcs, like imagine different floors in the dungeon, each with their own kind of unique environment and traits and monsters, and then think, nothing serious, just some adventurers with a simple enough aim, not to defeat the big boss, but to find a lost party member, and so their aim is simple enough too.

    Cook them All!

So basically, we’re just following these adventurers on their journey to find their lost member, an exceptional mage. Where most amateur parties struggle to find food in dungeon, because food supplies are heavy and so that means you can carry limited supply which don’t last for shorter times and also require some gold to purchase, but the biggest food problem is solved efficiently by cooking and eating the slain monsters, in the most creative and wholesome ways one can imagine, and so they can now focus on their main goal of finding the missing mage.

    Recommendation x Lighthearted chill anime x 10

At the time of writing this review, though I have not finished the anime and watched half of it by now, I can’t comment on the ending, but for the whole vibe and the way it’s moving forward with the plot and depicting the story and the events happening, I’d definitely recommend everyone to watch it, if you feel like watching something without using too much of your brain and just for chill purposes.

As Always, let me know in the comments what’s your take on the anime.

  2. Review Dungeon Meshi 🍖 Cooking Monsters Never Tasted So Good@alienpunklord379d

Welcome to another post here in the community.

Now let’s talk about Dungeon Meshi, or Delicious in Dungeon, as it became known in the West. I confess I started watching it rather casually, just because I found the premise intriguing. A group of adventurers who decide to cook and eat monsters while exploring a dungeon? Seriously, it immediately struck me as a mix between a tabletop RPG and MasterChef, and it was precisely that crazy idea that hooked me right away.

The plot begins simply: a group of adventurers led by Laios loses a party member his sister, Falin to a dragon.

    image.png

Without resources and out of time, they decide to go back into the dungeon immediately to save her... but they’re *out of food*. That’s when the unusual plan kicks in: *survive by eating the monsters they face*. And so, with each episode, we’re introduced to a new creature and a bizarre new recipe, ranging from **[grilled slime](https://dungeon-meshi.fandom.com/wiki/Slime)** to **[mandrake omelet](https://dungeon-meshi.fandom.com/wiki/Mandrake)**.

It might sound silly, but it’s precisely that lighthearted tone that makes the series so enjoyable.

The anime does a great job balancing humor, fantasy, and character development.

Each group member has a well-defined personality: Marcille, the grumpy elf mage who’s reluctant to eat monsters; Chilchuck, the halfling trap specialist; and the amazing Senshi, the dwarf cook with the most enthusiastic love for gastronomy I’ve ever seen in an anime. He turns absolutely everything into food with a level of seriousness that borders on the comedic.

    image.png

The animation was handled by Studio Trigger (responsible for anime like Kill la Kill and Cyberpunk: Edgerunners) and, as expected, it’s gorgeous. The visuals are colorful, expressive, and dynamic, with fluid combat scenes and creative monster designs. The dishes are animated with such detail that there were several moments where I actually felt like eating something that, in real life, would make me run away.

Another thing I really liked was the world-building. The dungeon isn’t just a random place full of monsters; it has its own rules, ecosystems, and unique biologies, like a miniature living world. It reminded me a lot of Made in Abyss, but with a much lighter tone. In fact, the manga's authors, Ryoko Kui, were highly praised for this creative and logical approach to designing both creatures and the environment.

    image.png

Now, it’s not all sunshine and rainbows.

The beginning might feel a bit slow if you’re expecting an epic story. The first episodes focus heavily on the culinary adventures and less on the main plot.

    But I insist;

it’s worth sticking with it, because little by little we learn more about Falin, the dungeon’s secrets, and the characters’ personal traumas and backstories. Around the halfway point of the season, the tone shifts significantly, including more serious and emotional moments. It’s also worth mentioning the soundtrack, which is subtle yet effective, and the the dubbing seems quite confident in funny moments, nothing as forced as a laugh “HAHAHAHAHAH” or something like that.

Senshi talking about “chimera tentacle stew” in a chef’s voice is simply hilarious.

    Really??

In the end, Dungeon Meshi was, for me, one of the biggest surprises of 2024. It doesn’t have the deep emotional weight of Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End, (I honestly don’t remember if I posted a review of that, I’ll check later), but it delivers something I truly value: originality with charm. It’s the kind of anime that reminded me why I love this medium because only in anime can the idea of cooking monsters in a dungeon become a rich, funny, and yes, touching narrative. If you enjoy fantasy with a touch of humor, want something light, creative, and with captivating characters, Dungeon Meshi is a must-watch.

  3. Dungeon Meshi --- Made Me Have a Craving for Monster Meat... XD@tegoshei418d

I've been busy with work and other stuff these days, so I don't really have much time to just sit down and watch anime. Well, that doesn't really stop me from watching. I try to insert it in my breaks from work, and I could even watch one whole episode when a student is absent. Hahah
Anyway, the anime I'm going to share was released last year. And despite knowing its existence, it has been pushed back in my to-watch list for some reason. However, when I met a 9-year-old student recently, he proactively recommended I watch the series. I couldn't say no to such enthusiasm, and so I did.
The anime I'm talking about is called DUNGEON MESHI.

I bet a lot of you have heard of this anime, if not watched it. But let me share how my student described the plot to me. (He was so good at storytelling, he sent me photos and he was so animated as he introduced some characters!)

The main character, Laios and his younger sister, Falin, together with other party members, were doing an adventure inside a dungeon with various types of monsters and traps.

One day, they were attacked by a red dragon. When it seemed so hopeless, Falin sacrificed herself and brought her brother and their party members back to the surface using her magic, while she was tragically eaten by the red dragon.

Resurrection is possible in the dungeon as long as you can retrieve the physical body. Not giving up hope, Laios, alongside two of the party members who decided to stay (Marcille: an elven mage and Chilchuck: a halfling locksmith), went back to the dungeon to rescue his sister.

There, they met Senshi (a dwarven warrior) who happens to be a culinary expert.
One of the reasons why they lost against the Red Dragon was their hunger. They weren't able to eat well, so they didn't have enough energy to defeat it.

Now, with Senshi as the latest addition to their party, as long as there are monsters around, they'll never be hungry!

    ---
I can still picture how excited my student was as he was sharing the plot with me. He showed me photos of the food from the anime and boy, they look so appetizing!

It reminded me of Shokugeki no Soma, but with monsters as ingredients. hahah

After watching the first season (which has 24 episodes), I understood why my student acted that way. The series was fun and full of adventures!
It's interesting how the episode smoothly transitions into a cooking show after an exciting fight.
I also like how diverse characters try and cooperate. They have their own personality, characteristics and tasks, yet they try to unite in achieving their goal of getting Falin back while enjoying (especially Laios) the sumptuous monsters during their meals. It's the eat or be eaten type of world. hahah
I'm glad my young student convinced me to finally watch this. Now, I'm looking forward to watching the second season. It has been confirmed to have one, but there's no specific date yet.
Anyway, the manga is completed, so I might as well just read it one of these days. :)
Thanks for reading and see you around! (^^,)/

  4. Review: Delicious in Dungeon | Adventure, Unique Fantasy and a Curious Gastronomy [ENG-ESP]@jessuses1381483d

Hello everyone my otaku friends, great Hive community... I hope you are all doing great today, friends of The Anime Realm... this time the time has finally come for me to give you my opinions on one of the most famous anime of last year, today I will talk about Delicious in Dungeon. I must say that I started watching this anime because of the social pressure I had seen on my social networks, since it was not an anime that really caught my attention, but I must say that it was nothing like what I expected and I ended up surprised... I started watching this anime thinking it would be another boring fantasy anime with a weird premise, but it hooked me around the third episode... at the end of the season I found myself really wanting to see more, but anyway, I’m going to tell you a little more about this series and why you should watch it in case you haven’t.
First, let’s talk about the fantasy world. Have you noticed that 90% of fantasy anime now are Isekais? It's so absurd and stupid, it's always the same protagonist run over or dead who wakes up in the classic medieval RPG world... he becomes incredibly powerful and blah, blah, blah, blah.. I think that stigma was the main reason why I didn't want to watch this anime, I thought it was going to be very boring and typical like most Isekais, but this story seemed totally different and unique to me... this is not a recycled video game world... it presents us with a very well built fantasy world, with a dungeon that has a unique ecosystem that lives and breathes for itself. Imagine the Made in Abyss anime but without the existential trauma and the children dying, the dungeon is not a simple decoration... it is another character, it has many levels and each floor has its own ecosystem, its own monsters and its own rules... there is even biology in everything that concerns the dungeon itself, you can see that the author put a lot of love into it and was a real fan of this type of worlds... everything feels very unique and deep.
From the creatures that are not what anyone would imagine, they are part of a food chain.. and that is precisely what makes the dungeon move and what makes it continue to exist, to stay alive... the plants here are not just decoration, but they are also part of something bigger, and necessary for everyone to coexist, and precisely having so many fantastic elements and interesting creatures, many would think of simply finishing them off and continuing on their way. But no, those creatures and plants also become ingredients, yes, that is precisely what makes this anime much more fun... because it is also about cooking, haha, had you thought about eating the monsters before? I haven't, haha.

Yo no, jaja.

But make no mistake, this is not Food Wars with swords, we're talking about a survival anime... the premise is simple, Laios and his group of penniless adventurers want to rescue his sister from the stomach of a dragon, to save on supplies, they simply eat the monsters they kill, haha, into the story enters Senshi, the dwarf chef who is basically the Gordon Ramsay of pumpkin cuisine... this guy has spent years perfecting unique monster recipes, offering us incredible dishes like tempura, French fries, different burgers, etc... and the most interesting thing is that his dishes always look extremely appetizing, it made me hungry several times... each episode is like a cooking show mixed with a survival show, and I find it spectacular.
The trick is that the food is not just a joke, but rather a window to explore the entire world, every monster he cooks reveals something new about the gourd’s ecosystem, you end up rooting for them to find new ingredients just to watch how Senshi turns them into a delicious feast. And speaking of the characters, Laios might be my favorite protagonist of the year, this guy is obsessed with monsters.. he wants to dissect them and become their friends at the same time, he’s obsessed in a funny way.. he’s not your typical dark or super-powered hero, he’s a rather clumsy and nerdy leader who gets excited about monsters’ anatomy and has zero social skills, his enthusiasm is extremely contagious.. there are scenes where he gets really excited about meeting the monsters and then simply wants to eat them, it’s very funny.. but don’t be fooled by his oddities, Laios when he needs to be, becomes a solid leader.. when things get ugly, he’s the first to look for practical solutions, even if it means risking his own life.
Then we have Senshi, the MVP of the whole group.. this dwarf is not only there to cook, but his development has many interesting layers, without spoiling anything, his backstory is truly heartbreaking.. he's a trauma survivor who turned his pain into a mission, when we learn about his past, we see why he's so insistent on feeding everyone, especially the young ones. It's subtle, but his presence helps the series a lot and gives it a lot of depth, plus, I must say, it's funny to see him fight with a frying pan, yes, a frying pan.. he's a legend.

    image_5.png

Marcille, the elf mage, is a perfect foil to Laios' calmness, she's a walking panic attack, with facial expressions so exaggerated they could make thousands of memes with her face, every time the group suggests something crazy, which is almost always, she mostly freaks out and expresses herself in extremely funny ways... but make no mistake, she's not just comic relief, she has quite an interesting backstory, as she was also an outcast by both elven society and adventuring groups, also, even though she's always been treated a bit badly, she maintains that warmth and kindness in her heart. She's quite a kind-hearted person, and her connection with Laios' sister shows how friendly and unique she is.. I must also say that many times her magic gets the entire group out of trouble, so she becomes an essential member for everyone's survival, as even her magical abilities go beyond the typical ones.. strangely she also handles spells that she shouldn't do, as they are forbidden, but still, she never loses her humanity.
Also worth mentioning is Chillchuck, an expert at handling traps and solving puzzles, although he is the member with the least development, I must say that I feel like he fills a unique space in the group, and feels necessary, sometimes he comes up with very clever solutions, and other times he gives us many funny scenes that are very much worth watching. Now, I’m not going to lie, the first few episodes are slow.. they focus mainly on: well, what monster are we going to cook today, but, I suggest you bear with me, because as the episodes continue, the series starts to weave much larger threads. Ancient curses, political tensions between elves and dwarves, and hints that the dungeon itself might be sentient.. the pacing is deliberate, letting you soak in the world and the characters, I assure you that soon the bombshells will start to come, where the lore of the dungeon becomes much more extensive and deeper..
By the middle of the series, I couldn’t help but be super hooked, as everything seems to fit together to introduce us to a final antagonist, which I certainly found super interesting. I also liked that all the dishes they prepare have a point, they have something to contribute to the plot in the future, the basilisk recipe from episode 2 matters later, and the different monsters they eat become critical to the plot... it's as if the series were cooking a stew, you stop seeing the ingredients until they mix together to give you something very satisfying to watch.

The humor here also seemed top notch to me, it’s not just random jokes… the gags tie into the character development most of the time, Marcel’s hysterical fits highlight her evolution from a shy mage to a badass survivor… Layos’ monologues about monsters make his leadership moments that much more impactful, even Senshi’s physique humor is great, he can use his indestructible frying pan shield in the middle of battle, it feels funny, a unique humor that made me laugh quite a bit… it’s not your typical stupid Japanese humor, but instead it’s based on fantasy humor that ends up working really well. Plus, the series isn’t afraid to get dark, they show us themes like trauma, loss of identity, and human arrogance.
My favorite episode was definitely the one where the shapeshifters that mimic the group showed up, forcing them to confront how they see each other, it’s funny, disturbing, and touching all at once. One of the things that blew my mind, though, is how the dungeon mirrors a real ecology, the monsters aren’t just experience points, but are part of an extremely balanced ecosystem, if you kill too many monsters, the dungeon collapses, if you eat the wrong thing and upset the food chain, everything gets complicated again. The series asks us, can we coexist with nature even in a deadly magical labyrinth? Senshi believes so, if you respect the ingredients, everything can become harmonious and perfect. The start may be a bit slow, and it may scare away those who are impatient for action... but I think its virtues outweigh its flaws. By the end, I was super immersed in this world, the animation is great, the fight scenes feel fluid, and I thought the soundtrack was really good. Also, the ending of Laios' sister seemed incredible to me.
I like how everything slowly ties back to the kitchen without feeling forced. It's an anime that, if you're a fan of fantasy, you should watch. I give it a 9/10 rating. I subtract some points for the initial pace, but I add many more for the great world they want to present to us... it is not another typical silly fantasy anime, but it is a love letter to world building, character growth and development, and obviously to the joy of a good meal... if you are eager to see a comedy with touches of action and an interesting story, then this anime will surely satisfy many, and that would be all for today, see you in the next reviews, take care of yourselves, byebye.

Way back when I was a kid, I was really fascinated with monsters. It always piqued my curiosity whenever there's something unusual happen. Whether it's a strange video sighting of some mythical beings from YouTube (which I later realized were fake) or odd gossips about the strange people in the woods, that stuff gets me really revved up. I even went on adventures alone deep in the woods just to search if mystical creatures do exist, but 'of course I didn't see any. Everything that's weird made me curious; even the taste of the strange fruit from the woods once tempted me (I did eat some tho), but that curiosity didn't last long because, as I grew up, I realized that there are a lot more things that's much scarier and more complicated than monsters.

    IMG_20241225_220200.jpg

People, *oh people—*they're much more complicated than them. The fact that all of us are different from each other was something that's really interesting, and when I finished watching this anime, it became more apparent how unique each person is. Because if all have the same brain, the same concept, and the same plot—who would make these weird yet entertaining lore? Oh, ok, I think I'm getting consumed with my musings, so before this gets deeper, join me as we trudge down to the dungeon where the strong gets to eat and the weak gets eaten in the Dungeon Meshi.

    About the Anime

    IMG_20241225_220224.jpg

Dungeon Meshi (Delicious in Dungeon) is a seinen anime that premiered in the winter of 2024. This anime aired from January 4, 2024, to June 13, 2024. Animated by Trigger, this anime has adventure, comedy, fantasy, and gourmet stuff in it. Each episode is 25 minutes long, and in total it has 24 episodes. This anime series was based on the completed manga written and illustrated by Ryouko Kui.

    IMG_20241225_220242.jpg

So it all started when Laios Touden's group was defeated by the red dragon they encountered on the lower level of the dungeon. With her last breath, his sister, Falin, saves them and sends them back to where they started. Shaken with both defeat and loss, some of their companions left them, and this leaves just the three of them: a tall man, a half-foot, and an elf. Before Falin gets fully digested, they certainly want to find her and bring her back to life, but since they're out of funds and equipment, they have no choice but to resort to one of the taboos—eating monsters.

    IMG_20241225_220303.jpg

With time as their enemy, they have no choice but to go with Laios' weird cooking. However, luckily, they met Senshi, an expert in monster cooking. He's been living in the dungeon for years, and this has made him very knowledgeable, not only on what monsters are safe to eat but also how the ecosystem of the dungeon works. After hearing what happened to them and the dire situation they're in, Senshi was convinced that they needed someone that could help them to have proper nourishment (and also he wanted to try cooking a red dragon). Now that they have a reliable addition in their small group, they set down again to the dungeon.

    IMG_20241225_220622.jpg

Together they venture the dungeon, navigating among its mysterious and dangerous paths. They slay every monster that may come in their path, and afterwards they make them into their meals. With Senshi's superb cooking skills and the dungeon's abundance of monsters, they never have a shortage of food. But hunger is the least concern they have as they descend towards the deepest part, for this mysterious dungeon has its perks and threats. It offers your desires, but it can also give you your greatest fear. It was both fascinating and dangerous, not only because of the various monsters that thrive in there.

    IMG_20241225_220637.jpg

Bonds will be tested as they get to know each other more in the dungeon, where hierarchy doesn't exist and only the living get the privilege to eat. Dungeon meshi. Oh, dungeon meshi.

I was kinda curious about the story of retrieving her sister back, but I didn't really expect much about it. I thought it would be another dramatic and sentimental story, but as soon as I watched it, I was caught off guard by its comedy. Like, are they supposed to be really stressed and agitated with how things fare for them? Laios witnessed his sister getting eaten by a dragon, but it seems he was just shocked then recovered later. The start was pretty heavy, but as soon as it progressed, the operation: find Falin became more like operation: slay and eat every monster they see. If you skipped the first episode, you'll really think that they're just adventurers who seek fun stuff and adventures in the dungeon.

    IMG_20241225_220729.jpg

The lore behind the dungeon was dark, and I can't wait to discover more about it in the next season. The abundance of different types of monsters from different mythologies really fascinates me. Also, I like how diverse the characters are. The MC was really the most unusual one among them because he's really an unpredictable one. His weird fascination for monsters is both endearing and off-putting sometimes. He's really optimistic and somehow good-natured, and I never saw him getting really dejected. That behavior made me wonder what thing would make him snap off. Anyway, so much for that—the way it ended showed really a promising good season two, so I was totally looking forward to it.

    IMG_20241225_220745.jpg

As for it's art style, it isn't that unique, but it's eye-pleasing. The character designs were interesting, and what really caught my attention is how Laios' body was portrayed. Since he's a big eater, I'm somehow pleased that he's drawn in a most logical way (well, anyway, I don't really recall a lot of really toned and muscly characters there). The color palette they use was also easy on the eyes, especially the pastel colors they use in the second opening.

    IMG_20241225_220848.jpg

Also, its animation was cool! The action scenes were really enjoyable. How they animated the weird movements of the characters in their comedic gags was funny and entertaining. Further, the way they portrayed the dungeon and monsters was somehow unusual for me because usually monsters in other animes were portrayed as really hideous and scary. However, this anime made me see that although monsters are somewhat scary, some or most of them were really cool and kinda cute! (only there, perhaps...)

    IMG_20241225_220800.jpg

The soundtrack was fine, though I find the first opening quite bland. The second opening is quite catchy and better, but the first one offers more foreshadowing, tho. I think the ending songs were supposed to be opposite of the opening song because the first opening song is laid back while its first ending song is catchy. On the other hand, the second opening song is catchy, while it's second ending song is laidback, but overall those songs contributed to setting up a lighthearted mood, which matches its cute artstyle. The background music also did a good job of enhancing the emotions and mood of the scenes. The sound effects were well utilized as well, and it did add to the entertaining factor of those action scenes.

    IMG_20241225_220827.jpg

Overall, my personal rating for this anime is 9/10. I personally enjoyed watching this anime, and I think most lovers of fantasy and adventures would love this one. The characters were not your usual ones; they're not perfect nor bad, but certainly for me they all have endearing sides that you'll like. Since it has gourmet in its genre, naturally there's a little bit (or a tad more) cooking demos. It's oddly satisfying to see them cook monsters into delicious meals, and that seeing them eat those made me somehow curious on how they really taste (lol)

    IMG_20241225_220700.jpg

By and by, this anime is one of the must-watch anime this 2024; the mix of dark lore and lighthearted comedies did end up well, and if you're into weird characters and dungeon adventures, then waste no time and watch Dungeon Meshi before this year ends!   Before I end this review, I happily share with you its trailer, so—

What's up community? We entered the most beautiful month of the year... and I must say, my favorite month of the whole year, we already have a new Month Quest and I'm really excited because I thought I wasn't going to be able to finish it and, yes I could, so I'm quite motivated this month and I hope to complete all the tasks. I wanted to start my way with the first anime recommendation, which is actually one that came out this year, Dungeon Meshi.

I had already talked about Dungeon Meshi a long time ago, just this year when it came out, but surely many didn't see my post or many did read it but still haven't seen this series that in my opinion, has everything. I'll tell you briefly about Dungeon Meshi... this series tells us the adventures of a group of adventurers, Laios, Chilchuck and Marcille, who after losing Laios' sister, Falin, when they were fighting a red dragon, decide to go into the dungeon again to rescue her, although they lose some members of their group. With very little money available, Chilchuck and Marcille reluctantly agree to return to the dungeon and get food on the way, in this they meet Senshi, a nice character who has experience cooking the monsters that are inside the dungeon and decides to venture with them.

I think this series has everything, adventure, suspense, mystery, it's quite funny when it has to be and approaches everything with seriousness when it's necessary, the people have their personalities quite well defined and the truth for me none of them was an insufferable character. It was really a pleasant surprise for me among all the low quality series (in terms of story) that there was this year, with its exceptions of course, I really recommend you to watch Dungeon Meshi before the end of this 2024, I think you will have a great time and you will not regret it, currently the series has a season of 24 episodes, which, surely you will be able to see before the end of the year (of course, if you have vacations at work or study). I hope you liked today's post. I'll say goodbye for now, thank you very much for reading and I'll see you later in another post ❤️

    Nattosheru Review_20240913_145400_0000.png

Hello anime fans. Today I want to talk to you about a japanese animated series that I encourage you to watch, without any excuse, because it is the best thing you can see this year. A work of fantasy and comedy but of the genre (or demographic) "Seinen" that shocked everyone since its broadcast in early January. With amazing animation and a story with unique yet fascinating characters, this anime easily made it to the top of my "Top 10 Best Fantasy Anime". And although it appears to be a work dedicated to food, which it is, it's amazing how this one mixes other genres such as drama, dark fantasy and even horror. Based on the manga series of the same name, which was written and illustrated by Riōko Kui, this series was animated by the great Tigger studio and has a total of 24 episodes for its first season (with a second season confirmed). This time the anime is available on Netflix, so hurry up to watch it, but not before reading my opinion about this masterpiece below.

    Plot

The anime transports us to a medieval and fantastic world where dungeons are everything and where guilds from all over the world send groups of adventurers to visit these dungeons on certain islands in search of a great treasure. It all starts with a group of adventurers trying to defeat a huge red dragon in the deep floors of a dungeon. Hungry and with no chance of winning, our group manages to be transported to a safe place on the surface with the help of Fallin, the leader's younger sister, Laios, a "one of a kind" swordsman. However, in exchange for saving them, she ends up being devoured by the dragon. The mission being a complete failure, two of the team members separate from the group and leave, leaving Laios with Marcille, an elven sorceress and Chilchuck, a medium-sized expert in traps and getting away with murder.

Laios and the others think of a way to get back to the dungeon and get down in time to the floor where the red dragon is and save Fallin from being completely digested. But, with very few members and almost no resources and food it is impossible for them to get a way to be able to go. It is at that moment that the leader Laios comes up with the craziest idea of all: eating monsters. This in order to survive inside the dungeon until they reach the dragon's floor. This idea does not please anyone, but Laios tries to convince them by preparing a dish with a mushroom-shaped monster on the second floor of the dungeon, a place where there are so many adventurers that it looks like a market. And it is here where they meet a strange dwarf named Senshi, who claims to have 10 years of experience cooking monsters in this dungeon and demonstrates his skills by preparing an incredible dish of food.

    Trama

    Trailer & Review

Next, I will leave you the trailer of the anime:

    hello@reallygreatsite.com_20240825_182859_0000 (1).png

At a time when the anime industry has been flooded with generic fantasy stories, adventurers, heroes and harems, this anime appears that is very different from anything you've probably seen so far. With an attention-grabbing premise and a perfect blend of adventure with comedy and fantasy that we all love to watch. But, what makes this anime special is the way in which they develop the story and its characters, with a somewhat strange beginning that unravels into something much more incredible to watch. Yes, the plot and everything you'll see in this anime is about monsters and food in dungeons, right, but the way they tell it to us is so well done that it's hard not to escape being drawn into it. A masterpiece for its animation and technical style, which thanks to Tigger studio we can enjoy, with a story and a group of characters so unpredictable that it will be hard not to get bored watching this anime.

When I started watching it, the first minutes of the first episode I didn't feel so interesting, beyond having a somewhat different style and drawing, the premise didn't end up catching you. It wasn't until shortly after I gave it a second chance that I was completely caught by watching the first few episodes. The way in which the story begins may be a bit strange as it is a small group of adventurers in search of a member that has been swallowed by a red dragon and because they don't have enough resources or food, they choose to prepare some of the monsters they kill along the way inside the same dungeon. But, the way in which we are detailed how to prepare these monsters, what monsters to eat and what not to eat, the consequences of doing this (which is obviously frowned upon by society in this world) and the sense of life that each being has within this mysterious dungeon is something that is quite fascinating. Also that it gives you a very different impression from what you expect to see at the beginning with what you already know so far of its plot.

On the side of the story, the way in which we are presented with this curious medieval and fantastic world that works with guilds of adventurers and dungeons with treasures is interesting because they make the rules and the way everything works very clear, while we see how a small group of adventurers decide to go around killing and preparing monsters to eat them later, an act that is against everything that is made clear that should not be done. This calls into question the value and meaning of everything that is morally known about life in this world, sacrificing one life for another, as a way to survive a bit cruel but at the same time fair for our protagonists. The consequences of these decisions are seen as the episodes go by, with somewhat funny reactions, disputes and fights between companions and the awakening of the wrath of a very powerful being, the owner of the dungeon. This story is a mixture of fantasy that we could almost categorize it as "dark fantasy" with a humor that is fun to carry and a level of drama that can even touch on psychological issues as it unfolds.

The characters, on the other hand, are all kinds of crazy. Starting with the leader of the group, Lailos, a tall, swashbuckling man who seeks to do everything he can to save his younger sister and spell-casting expert, Fallin, after she is devoured by a red dragon. The sense of reasoning disappears from the mind of our leader, who makes the most surreal decisions, such as eating the monsters that are killed along the way in the dungeon. This is a very different protagonist from most of these types of fantasy anime, standing out only for his "special" way of doing things, with ideas and methods for hunting and fighting that test everything one knows about dungeon adventures. Marcille, a very skilled elf and sorceress, and Fallin's best friend, is among the most conscientious of the whole group regarding what goes on under the dungeon, always hesitant to have to eat monster parts prepared, cooked and seasoned like typical food dishes of that world. She is always there to explain to us how the magic she uses and the dungeon itself works and how it is handled.

Chilchack is the typical fearful group member who is always against every decision the leader makes, but is always there to get everyone out of trouble or out of a trap. Senshi is a dwarf with a history and many mysteries behind him, but he stands out for being the "Designated Chef" of the group, having enough experience killing and preparing monsters in this dangerous dungeon. His way of doing things is just as crazy as Laios', which makes them good friends as the story unfolds. These characters are a combination of comedy with curiosities and funny, strange, dramatic and unforgettable moments. This is one of my favorite groups of adventurers, hands down, because of the special chemistry they all have and the relationship they develop as the story evolves into a complete adventure. They all have a lot to talk about, besides being part of one of the craziest and most surreal stories I've ever encountered in a fantasy anime like this one.

On the other hand, this series has an impressive animation quality, thanks to Tigger studio. The drawing style and character design so faithful to the manga and the incredible quality and details in all its scenes, especially in the scenes where Senshi and the others cook, which is like the source of the story itself, is a visual marvel and a delicacy that I assure you will make you want to eat after watching one or two episodes of this fascinating anime. It also stands out by having a fluidity in the animation very well worked, which shows the technical level that this anime has in general, which can easily be positioned among other fantasy masterpieces such as "Sousou no Frieren", for me. The soundtrack and sound effects of this anime are also part of this audiovisual marvel, with details and mixtures of sounds and music that give tension and excitement in every scenario we see in this anime full of endless adventures. All this and more is what convinced me to watch this anime in its entirety and place it among my favorites of the fantasy and adventure genre. A food, adventure and fantasy anime that you have to watch no matter what your taste or preference is.

Personally, I give it a well-deserved 10/10 rating as far as the fantasy, adventure and comedy genre is concerned.

    SPANISH VERSION

8. Dungeon Meshi surprised me. // Dungeon Meshi me sorprendió. [ENG+ESP]@edeyglezsosa728d

Dungeon Meshi surprised me, and I mean that in a good way, since I never thought that a story that revolves around the art of cooking with ingredients obtained inside a dungeon could touch on such sensitive topics as cannibalism and predation, and at the same time have scenes of humor so marked that they border on the absurd. And what could you expect from a series, whose title in Spain was translated as Tragons and Dungeons and thus reached the Spanish-speaking continent.

This anime series is the adaptation of the manga called Delicious in Dungeon in English and Tragones y Mazmorras in Spanish, written by Ryôko Kui. It was published in the pages of Enterbrain's "Harta" magazine since 2014 and currently has 10 compilation volumes in the Japanese market. In each chapter we are told how a group of adventurers goes deep into a dungeon and encounters a red dragon that surpasses them in strength, and before the attempt to escape ends up devouring one of the members of the group, Falin Touden, the sister of the leader of the adventurers.[1]

Once they reach the surface, they decide that they are going to return to the dungeon to find Falin's remains before they are digested. The big problem is that the last adventure didn't generate any profit for them and they don't have the resources to make the trip. Luckily they meet Senshi of Izganda, who will accompany them on their journey and show them that the dungeon has much more to offer in terms of food.

And I say food because this series is not an action anime per se, even if it has some more moving scenes, but it focuses on balancing well the comedy and everyday moments that could well be taken from a "slice-of-life". On the one hand, we have Laios Touden, leader of the group, who is far from being that stereotypical and perfect character, but, on the contrary, he is lazy. However, he does not hesitate to show his true motivation: food made with "exotic" ingredients.

On the other hand, we have Marcille Donato and Chilchuck Tims, who are the strictest and most consistent characters, as they will try to prevent Laios and Senshi from cooking and devouring all the beings found in the dungeon. Each of these characters has their own backstory, which shaped their form and character. As the story progresses, we will learn more about them, while witnessing an evolution of the characters, which I feel is necessary in stories of this type.

Animation was done by Studio TRIGGER, well known for "Cyberpunk: Edgerunners", but as I mentioned, we shouldn't expect battles and action scenes all the time. Although the series itself has a beautiful finish thanks to the expressiveness of the characters and the color palettes used. Both the set design and the drawing of the dishes prepared by Senshi are incredibly animated with an impressive level of detail. Seeing how they animated the plating in each episode reminded me of the legendary food dishes drawn by Studio Ghibli.

The music is lively and fun, giving us a very lively and melodious intro, but don't be fooled, as the soundtrack in general accentuates the weight of the important scenes with powerful melodies.

In summary, I can say with certainty that I recommend this series, as I consider that it is not a waste of time. Dungeon Meshi will allow you to have a good time accompanied by the occurrences of the characters, while enjoying unique and unforgettable moments that will occur during your journey.

    Dungeon Meshi o Calabozos tragones.

    image.png Fuente

  10. Dungeon Meshi - Review@workaholic666822d

I like anime with a mystery or detective genre that makes the audience think and seem to be involved in the problems faced by the main character. The anime Death Notes is one of my favorite mystery anime so far, and until now, no one has been able to replace its position in my heart. Then I thought about trying something different, namely watching anime with a genre that I had never watched before or whose story I had never heard before, finally, I found an anime with the title "Dungeon Meshi/Delicious in Dungeon" which initially made me hesitate to watch it because the teaser wasn't interesting enough in my opinion.

The anime tells the story of a man named Laois Touden who is a team leader in a group that explores Dungeons. They live in a world where many residents make a living by entering Dungeons and defeating the monsters in them. Laois' group while in the Dungeon met a dragon, and they were unable to defeat it, unfortunately, their group members were eaten by the dragon, including Laois' younger sister.

Laois and the rest of his group decided to re-enter the Dungeon to take revenge on the dragon that had eaten their friends including Laois' younger sister, but they couldn't enter the Dungeon without sufficient supplies and they needed money to collect logistics when entering the Dungeon, then Laois took the initiative to save supplies while in the dungeon by eating the monsters there. From the initial story of this anime, I thought that Dungeon Meshi would tell the story of people who go on adventures in dungeons to look for treasures or rare objects and then face the monsters in them. It turns out I was wrong. When the story continued, this anime gave me a new experience in terms of story and character development in each episode.

The first thing that made me like this anime was when they first decided to eat the monsters in the dungeon, then when they met a Viking with a cute body named Senshi who had the skills and knowledge to process food from the monsters in the dungeon to make it delicious. Dungeon Meshi is the first anime I watched with the concept of adventure and cooking at the same time, the animation and visuals are pleasing to the eye when they cook monsters in my opinion, it is very epic and entertaining for the audience.

Even though each member of Loais' group is silly, they have their skills, like Senshi, who is an expert in managing food from the monsters he defeats, then there is Laois, who has the strength and courage to fight monsters and is always curious to eat the monsters he defeats. Then there is Chilchuck who is an expert in getting through mines or traps in dungeons, and the last member is an elf named Marcille, who always makes things difficult for his teammates, but his magic elements are sometimes beneficial for the team.

This is a fresh anime with a story style that is not too familiar to me, who likes anime with a strong concept of mystery and logic, this Dungeon Meshi anime provides a different and unique experience. The character of Laois who is always curious about the taste of food from the monsters in the dungeon, the Senshi's cooking skills which are beyond my expectations, and the character of Marcille who initially feels disgusted about eating monsters until finally she is addicted to eating food made from dungeon monsters, as well as the comedy in each of them cooking becomes a unique entertainment for me as a viewer.

Dungeon Meshi is a relaxing show because the story is light and each scene of them cooking, coupled with satisfying visuals and background sound, is suitable as a reference for watching when resting or relaxing at home. It cannot be denied, that this anime is not perfect, several scenes are sometimes a bit boring but not too annoying, and the fight against monsters that looks not serious sometimes but serious when cooking and enjoying food from monsters is something strange and unique for me who is new to watching anime with this genre.

There is a unique, relaxing, and entertaining story idea in Dungeon Meshi, although there are some scenes that I don't like, but that's relative. Everything I wrote in this post is my personal opinion as a viewer. If you don't want spoilers, please watch the Dungeon Meshi anime first, then we'll discuss it in the comments column. I feel happy and entertained by this anime, and for those of you who are looking for anime references with genres and stories that are related to cooking but are a little different, I recommend you watch Dungeon Meshi and add it to your watchlist because it will be worth your time.

When I saw that I had to post about an anime released in the winter season of 2024 I was a little worried, since I really don't like to watch new anime unless someone recommends it to me faithfully, but I really want to complete the tasks of the month so I decided to look for the lists of the releases of this season and honestly, I was reading very long names, synopsis that didn't call my attention and second and third seasons of anime I hadn't seen that obviously I should have seen since the first season and honestly I didn't feel like it, until, I saw one in particular that caught my attention because it was something different from what I had seen before...

Dungeon Meshi was released on January 4 of this year and the story takes place in a fantasy world where dungeons are raided. The story begins when a group of adventurers try to kill a dragon without success, being forced to flee, but Falin, the leader's sister, gets trapped in the dragon and casts a spell to help the others get out, after that, two members leave to find another group and only Laios remains, Chilchuk and Marcille who decide to go back to the dungeon to kill the dragon and save Falin, but they are short of money (I feel identified) and have nothing to eat so the leader (Laios) proposes that they hunt and eat from the monsters in the dungeon, that's where the adventure begins...

Although it was the one that caught my attention the most, honestly I didn't have much faith in it, it was really better than I thought, I mean, it's not a masterpiece but I really had a good time watching it, it's quite funny. It is something new to see monsters killing monsters to feed themselves, at least I had not seen that in this kind of thematic, the series is still on air and so far has 11 chapters and I've had a lot of fun watching it. Tell me what you think if you are watching it and if not, I invite you to watch it, I'll say goodbye for now, thank you very much for reading and see you later in another post ❤️
