One of the reasons that I paid for a Crunchyroll subscription was that I saw that the new Demon Hunter movie, Infinity Castle, was going to be available from July 28th. I watched all seasons available on Netflix last year. And I finished watching a little bit before the official release in the theatres. But I couldn't go to the theatres, of course. Probably that was one of the top anticipated movies that I had on my list, but as with many things that I get, this anxiety, the reality sometimes doesn't pay off enough.

If you didn't watch all the seasons of the anime, you still can watch it since the movie is more about fighting and you doesn't necessary need to know the characters. To be frank, even I've forgotten a bit about the backgrounds of some characters I always get confused about, like the butterfly Hachira Shinobu and her sister, Kanae. I was going to reread after I watched the movie, but I forgot; now I just read their story to remember a bit, write this post, and finally understand.
Anyways, if you are still interested in the anime, I wouldn't recommend beginning to watch from the movie; just start with the first season, which is one of the best. And after you get into a fan level, go to the movie, since the movie is loooong and it is just Part 1. It is a bit upsetting: 2h30 of movie and it will have a part 2. I would say that even for a Demon Slayer fan, that is a bit depressing. It is bad when you stop the movie to check how much is still left to end. That happened to me a couple of times.
The movie is probably 80% or more just about fights of Tanjiro and his friends against the high-level ranking demons that are below Muzan, who only appears teasing a bit, but still hiding until the last moment. But the fight is between Tanjiro + the Hachira Giyu Tomioka against the upper-level demon Akaza. The fight probably lasts almost 1 hour, which is a bit too much, but still has some good moments. Especially when the demon reveals the suffered history that for sure touches our hearts. That is a mark of the anime: even behind the most cruel villains, a suffered story that makes us feel the pain as humans.

The anime, for sure, is a must too if you are a fan of Tanjiro and his adventures. But still, it was made in a way for sure to get more money; you didn't need to conclude this story with such long movies. I just hope that the story concludes with Part 2. I will get very tired if there is a Part 3. But I like these debates about evil and good, and the demon Akaza story brings that antithesis. A strong demon that just focused his demon life on getting stronger and beating the weak, a demon that you get angry about since he killed the popular fire Hachira Kyojuro Rengoku in a season of the anime. Now I want to see a fight with the king demon Muzan finally, and of course see the end of the upper-level demon Doma that killed the butterfly Hachira and her sister.

I must admit, this wasn't what I expected.... Demon style lived up to the hype way more than i expected, and i went in already a fan so my bar was already kinda high lol. like i had seen people online saying this was the best demon slayer content ever made and i was half expecting to be like "okay it's good but not THAT good," and nope, it actually earned the hype for me.

quick setup for anyone who doesn't watch the show .... it picks up right after the season 4 cliffhanger, tanjiro and basically the whole demon slayer corp get teleported by muzan (the big bad, basically the king of all demons) into this insane shifting fortress called the infinity castle. it's this recursive, reality-bending maze where hallways and rooms just rearrange themselves out of nowhere, and the hashira (the strongest slayers) end up split up and forced into these intense one-on-one fights against the upper rank demons while trying to survive long enough to actually get to muzan. that's basically the whole movie, just non-stop escalating fights with breaks for emotional backstory, no real downtime to breathe honestly.

and okay the animation. i need to talk about the animation because it's genuinely insane. like every single frame looks like it could be printed and framed as a poster, ufotable really said "let's just go all out" and did not hold back at all. the fight choreography especially is on a whole other level, there's fights in this that made me just sit there with my mouth open, like i wasn't even processing the plot for a second i was just watching colors and movement happen perfectly. the way they blend the hand-drawn animation with cgi backgrounds too is so seamless, i genuinely couldn't tell where one ended and the other started in some scenes, it just all flows together.

it's definitely a heavier, more serious movie than usual though. if you're used to the show having like goofy comic relief moments mixed in with the intense stuff, this one dials that way back, zenitsu barely gets any of his usual comedy and inosuke's mostly missing too, it's mostly just gritted teeth and life or death battles the whole runtime. kinda makes sense given where the story is at, but i did miss some of the lighter moments ngl, the show usually balances tone really well and this one leans almost fully into the dark, serious side. there were maybe like two or three moments the whole movie where i actually laughed, versus usual episodes where there's constant back and forth banter.

also it's LONG, like 2 hours 35 min-ish, and there's a decent amount of flashbacks sprinkled through the fights showing character backstories, which mostly worked for me emotionally (ngl i teared up more than once, this franchise always gets me with the tragic backstory stuff, there's one hashira flashback in particular that wrecked me) but i can see how the pacing might drag for some people since it keeps cutting away from the big fights to go into someone's past right when the action's peaking. i didn't mind it personally since i already care about these characters, but i could see a newer viewer getting a little impatient with it.

if you're not already caught up on the anime though i honestly don't think this is a great entry point, it assumes you already care about like 10+ characters and know their whole deal, so if you're new to demon slayer i'd say go watch the show first instead of jumping straight into this. you'll get way less out of the emotional beats if you don't already have history with these characters going in.
but for me, as someone who's been following the story for years? this might be my favorite demon slayer thing yet honestly. the stakes finally feel real, the animation is next level even for ufotable's usual insane standards, and it's just a genuinely emotional, exhausting, satisfying watch. can't wait for the next two movies in the trilogy tbh, especially after where this one leaves off.

I finally got to watch the Demon Slayer infinity castle movie and woah. The animation—which we’re all aware of—deserves whatever praise it’s getting and so much more. Source I was never really a fan fan of demon slayer, I thought the storyline was too simple and got irritated with the backstory but the backstory of this one character in infinity castle was enough to make me loosen up on my irritation. There was this…More
Source Today I watched the last episode of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Season 3 and boy it was another epic masterpiece. The creators never failed to give us a beautiful storyline in this season and I can say Demon Slayer is my third favourite anime of all time without a doubt. Demon Slayer season three focused on the upper moon demons' attack at the swordsmith village. The swordsmith village is where the demon s…More
In the next post you will see the progression of an illustration referring to the anime / manga of Kimetsu no yaiba, which is an illustration visible in the manga only that he made in the form of a digital drawing and modified by me. Why did I do it? I did it since I decided to draw all the upper moons of Kimetsu no yaiba, therefore, in this case I bring you to the upper moon 3 "akaza". Why the Akaza ? Akaza is one…More
