  1. Factions Before Blood | Divergent Film Review@olujay826d

    image.png

I liked the idea of factions within a community, each of them with unique traits that serve the system in specific ways, to prevent future conflict and create lasting peace. In the dystopian world of the film Divergent, how the world would run with this system of factions piqued my interest. And then, the next thing I knew, I was eager to see the next part of the series.

I had always seen Divergent around, but I never gave it much thought—for 10 years! Now that I have seen how entertaining a film it is, I wonder how I managed to miss it all this time. I particularly enjoyed it for its refreshing storyline, drama, and cast.

    image.png

In a futuristic world, people are divided into factions. When Beatrice Prior realises that she does not fit into any of the factions, she must hide her identity to escape the wrath of powerful forces. Google

The narration at the beginning of how the world turned into what it is in the film got me hooked right away. It was a soliloquy by the main character, Tris Prior. It was an explanation of the factions and how the faction system works. It immediately got me excited for what was to come.

The storyline of the film starts with a gentle pace, builds up momentum gradually and steadily, and then the ending was the most entertaining, mostly because of the mix of action and love.

And the dialogue, particularly, is something I really appreciate. It was all natural and coherent. There were splashes of humour every now and then, making it enjoyable. I liked how there were subtle sarcasms sometimes, but nothing forced in them.

Each faction—Amity, Candour, Erudite, Abnegation, and Dauntless—were consistently represented for what they stood for in the film. Well, there were about two factions that I didn't see much of in the film. The film was mostly concentrated on three out of all the factions, and they were the ones that were unique to the main character, who turned out to be "divergent."

    image.png

I like to think that the factions in the film are like the categories we put people into sometimes. For example, we categorise people in our societies based on their professions, interests, or beliefs. And each category, like the factions in Divergent, comes with its own norms and set of expectations. The concept of being "divergent," however, challenges these categories and highlights the uniqueness of individuals who don't exactly "fit in."

It felt as though the film was going to be a superhero kind of film, but it really wasn't. I was rather glad that it wasn't, actually. It was all realism and more of a reflection of what we see with categories in reality.

Dystopian, but it has some futuristic concepts, such as the kind of technology they were using in the film. It was all fascinating to enjoy, aside from the film's storyline.

It may have been made in 2014, but it could still pass as a good film even if it were released in 2024, even though there is a wide gap between the differences between then and now in how films are made.

    image.png

The acting is one of the most endearing things for me in the film, with how the actors performed. Just like the dialogue, I appreciate how well done everyone of the main actors was with their characters.

The film soundtrack, also, is commendable. The songs were not in the way, but they sure were mostly coming in at the right time, and they were enjoyable too.

Apparently, there is a series, and there are two more films, or sequels. I haven't seen them yet, but I am eager to see how the story continues and where the writers take it. Divergent, the first film, gave the series a great start, so I imagine that it must have had fans for a long time.

The film is getting an 8/10 from me. It's something just about anyone can watch and enjoy. I only hope that they keep up the energy in the sequels. Sadly, the sequels aren't on Netflix, but I'll get around watching them somehow.

    Fuentes: **Divergente**, **Insurgente** y **Leal**

    ENGLISH VERSION

    English

Hello friends of the #MoviesAndTVShows community. Today I bring you a new review of a saga that I liked a lot at the time and I think most of you also liked it. It is the Divergent saga. Here I share with you my opinion about it.

    Sources: **Divergent**, **Insurgent** and **Allegiant**

The other day I decided to have a marathon of these three movies because I remember that I liked them a lot when I saw them, however, this time I noticed something different. Although they have been around for a while and many people liked them at the time, I think that as the other two movies came out, the saga was declining in plot, dialogues, and the story itself, in addition to the special effects.

Of course, the first movie is still my favorite and unfortunately to this day I haven't had a chance to read the books. In the first installment, I loved discovering this whole new, futuristic but crumbling world that was emerging according to the factions, and being divergent was quite a mystery. Plus the interpretation that made Kate Winslet as a villain she was magnificent, I had never seen her as evil and in her role, she achieved her goal.

    **Source**

As for how the romance of the protagonists was presented in the film, those approaches that they gave to a certain contact, I didn't think it was the right way to present it. It gave me the impression of being forced and although I understood the idea, I didn't like the way it was presented, at least not at the beginning of the romance.

As for their performances, they showed some chemistry between them but I think they failed to make more connections with the characters. As I said, I think the first movie had a lot of potential, although it showed some missteps, it kept a good story and excellent plot. So the first movie left me wanting to continue to learn more about the trajectory of these characters.

    **Source**

For the second installment called Insurgent, I was surprised to see the cast achieved for its development, but as the film progresses, it loses some essence and the characters become irrelevant. From my point of view, I think it loses a certain spark by the end of the film.

I mean, if Divergent is proven to be the next generation and more than one exists and you know the factions aren't working properly, why would you want to insist on wanting to keep wanting to extinguish the existence of those people? I didn't find much sense in that and I noticed a gap there, I don't know if the book explains this part better and its development is different. I hope to have the opportunity to read those books.

    **Source**

Another thing I loved about this movie was the drastic change in the main character, Shailene Woodley I loved the Pixie style haircut since I saw it, I loved it and I wanted to get the same haircut. I was so determined that in the end I did it and it was the most comfortable haircut I've ever had in my life, the bad thing is that it lasts very short hahaha but I still enjoyed it.

I also noticed that the chemistry between the main characters improved a lot, Theo James She would give her co-star looks that made you think they were in love. And well, I loved Tris's character in all three movies, she seemed to me to do an excellent job as an actress.

    **Source**

To add something else about this second film, I enjoyed seeing so many actors and actresses of high stature so to speak, put together in one film. I am talking about Octavia Spencer, Jai Courtney, Zoe Kravitz, Ansel Elgort, Miles Teller and of course of Naomi Watts and Maggie Q. Just to have them, I watched this movie more than once.

    𝔸𝕝𝕝𝕖𝕘𝕚𝕒𝕟𝕥

Already for this third part, I will say that I was upset with the ending because I didn't remember that it was a continuation and to my surprise I searched the internet for information about a second part of the last movie and they left the fans in the air. They canceled the production because they didn't notice much hype in the theaters when the third movie was released.

Also the special effects they did with the transport ship that was the only one that could cross the barrier between the two worlds were pretty bad. For a futuristic movie, it should have had better effects. Even Terminator in its earlier years had better special effects.

    **Source**

Besides that, the story lost sense and logic, why did they make that experiment and why do they want to continue doing it if it has been proven that they do not fulfill their objective? And if it is considered a system, it is obvious that every system is created to be improved, that's where the sense of evolving comes from.

This last movie of the saga left me badly because it didn't clarify my doubts and besides it remains in continuation and even more disappointed when I found out that the directors decided to abandon the production. Not even the supposed series based on the story of Divergent is going to be released. Everything was left halfway.

    **Source**

I think there have been worse sequels than this one and they could have made a little effort to improve the script, plot, and special effects for one last film. I bet a lot of fans would have been satisfied. As I said before, this saga had potential and it's a shame it ended like this.

I was also looking forward to seeing more of the performance and participation of Bill Skargård. It's not fair. I hope that someday soon the producers will change their minds and decide to finish the sequel. I HAVE FAITH!

Well dear readers, so far I leave you my opinion about The Divergent Saga. I would like to know if you have already seen any of these movies or if you want to see any of them after reading my post. I'll say goodbye until the next post, but first I want to thank you for reading my opinion. Greetings! and be well! 😄

  3. Divergent (2014)@andreseloy5811081d

    image.png Image

I read the trilogy of books long before they made the first movie and of course the others that followed, I found it a challenge to adapt the novel to film but after enjoying it with critical eyes and I must confess that the work done by Evan Daugherty and Vanessa Taylor was very good.

The plot revolves around a futuristic and dystopian city of Chicago where society is divided into five factions, according to their innate abilities, these are Abnegation, Cordiality, Truth, Boldness and Erudition, the rest of the population are the abandoned or excluded who have no privileges in society.

    image.png Image

To determine the aptitude of the population, when adolescents reach the age of 16 they are subjected to a sleep-induced test, although they can later determine which faction to join, they generally join the one they were told to join.

Although they apparently all have the same privileges this is not the case as the Agnegation faction in the ruling council is the one that has the most weight in making decisions and in fact is the one that runs the form of government which can be determined as a mixture of current political forms.

In that world, supposedly perfect, there is what could be considered a sixth faction that is outlawed and persecuted for being able to possess skills of various factions, these are eliminated so that they do not break the supposed balance of that dystopian world and are called divergent.

    image.png Image

Many of these coexist hidden in some faction taking advantage of their ability to camouflage themselves, while others prefer to mingle with the abandoned.

In the novel and film the main characters are Beatrice Prior played by Shailene Woodley, winner of the 2010 Young Artist of the Year Award, while Theo James plays the role of Tobias, also known as Four, who is a divergent infiltrating the system, along with a large group of actors in other roles including Kate Winslet.

The film was released on March 21, 2014 and the reviews were mixed, some considered it to be very predictable while others praised the adaptation of the script and the performance of its protagonists.

    image.png Image

It was directed by Neil Burger, known for having directed the mockumentary Interview with the Assassin in 2002, the film The Illusionist in 2006.

The film cost $85 million to produce and grossed more than $285 million at the box office, a testament to the film's popularity with moviegoers.

Two more films of the saga were made, but none achieved higher box office takings than this one.

It is a film where there are many hidden messages and shows a not so futuristic reality.

  4. Movie Review: Divergent@thatanimesnob3033d

So I watched the 3 divergent movies that are out so far and my opinion of them is predictably bad. The premise alone makes no sense since it assumes people live in harmony when they are only allowed to do one thing and any divergence is considered anarchy, punished by death. Plus, the whole thing is excused with genetics and not personal choice. You are born to think in a specific way, if you are not, you are an abomination that needs to be exterminated. Predictably, the heroine is one such individual, not because she chose to think outside the box but because she was born special. Boring!

Most of the first movie is about watching her doing parcour training, which is pretty dull but at least gives an excuse to make her move around and see what the other factions are doing. Up to its third quarter it’s a basic dystopian slice of life. The last quarter is when whatever logic this movie tried to have goes to hell. It comes down to evil faction A wanting to kill good faction B so it can rule supreme. For that purpose it brainwashes police faction C and sends it to kill faction B. If they have brain washing technology why don’t they simply brainwash faction A and be done with it?

Not only that but the main villain does the usual bullshit thing where she arrests everyone before ordering their execution, something that makes no sense and only wastes a lot of time. She also doesn’t simply kill the heroine for being a divergent who wants to stop her but instead spends half an hour explain her evil masterplan, which again makes no sense and wastes a lot of time. As expected, the heroine finds enough time to break free, magically undo the brainwashing of her boyfriend with the power of love, and brainwashes the villain into stopping the execution. Fucking lazy resolution.

It only gets worse in the second movie where nothing makes sense anymore. The villains are chasing the heroine and are unable to capture her even when she on foot and they use cars. They can’t even hit her with machineguns when she is simply running out in the open. So she tries to escape on a train. She doesn’t get on the train as it passes by, she runs to other side of the tracks, so she can use the wagons as cover, and then gets on. This makes no sense since closing the door of a wagon is more than enough to protect her from bullets. She didn’t have to go to the other side for that, and it’s not like the villains knew how to use a damn gun.

On the train she conveniently finds rebels who don’t like her and immediately attack. They fight for about 15 minutes where a dozen people are brutally killed or crippled, and then her boyfriend remembers to tell them he is the son of their leader, so they stop. This battle was pointless. In the meantime the villain finds this magic box that contains a message from the founders of this stupid faction system. The thing is, it can only be opened by a pure divergent. So she orders the heroine to be captured alive and brought to her so she will open it. Well then, thank goodness nobody knew how to shoot straight all this time or the heroine would be dead and the box would never be opened.

This by the way is another thing that makes no sense. If her plan was to eradicate the divergents and control the city, why does she want to read a message that needs the very thing she is trying to eradicate? It goes against her masterplan. Not only that but being a divergent just changed from being an abomination to being very important, a thing that contradicts everything the first movie was about.

The heroine eventually surrenders to the bad guys after they threaten to kill innocent people until she does. Such well written bad guys, you really see they have a good reason for wanting to take over the world. So the heroine opens the box and finds out that not only the divergents are the special ones, not only everybody else is a genetic mistake, but also she is the best of all divergents. Meaning that all this time she was the messiah instead of a mistake. Fucking hoseshit.

And then out of nowhere the rebels attack the evil base and save the day. Just like that. Why didn’t they do it all this time if it was that simple? The story is retarded. This brings us to the third movie where the heroine finds the bureau of genetic modification, who are the masterminds behind all this bullshit. They tell her she is the most genetically perfect human being, so the target audience can also feel special for watching this bullshit.

For some nonsensical reason, the bureau assumes that maintaining the factions is enough to produce divergents, which are genetically fixed. Something that makes no fucking sense since the best way to have more divergents is to have children born from divergents instead of allowing genetically inferior people to be killing the divergents for centuries.

This plan makes no sense and yet the bureau decides that now that the truth is out they must make everybody lose their memories and start from scratch. What kind of logic is this? Oh, and if you think the brainwashing bullshit was too much, get ready to facepalm with the amnesia gas. I am not kidding you, there is amnesia gas which will make everybody forget everything and go back to killing the very divergents that are supposed to be genetically superior. What is this bullshit?

Anyways, as expected Jesus-chan saves the day for the third time, because of course she does, she is Jesus with boobs, and organizes the population against the bureau. Something that will happen in the next movie, which I don’t fucking care about because it’s all one big pile of horseshit for brainless teenagers. To hell with this shit.
