In both humans and animals, the maternal protective instinct is evident. There is an invisible cord that binds mother and child unbreakable, it is there, beating and nourishing, and it lasts a lifetime. Mothers, when they embrace their children, breastfeed them and see in their eyes the need for protection, do not break that maternal bond that unites them. Some species of animals tend to detach themselves from their young and devour them. However, this is not a rarity, as it is part of their instincts.

Mother is mother, it is often said, to encompass all that motherhood means. I would say and much more, we are capable of anything for our children. It is a symbiosis, the mother-child relationship, in both senses, this relationship motivates the human being to grow and be better every day. If you are born with a condition or a syndrome, most of the time this invisible cord is stronger. The desire to protect is something innate in mothers, in all species. They are capable of destruction to save their children from danger.

In some animal species this instinct is stronger, as in the case of elephants. Despite their size, they are sensitive, loving, overprotective. This is evidenced in the Disney cartoon film known as Dumbo. This is a classic, for me one of the best films in the history of cinema. This elephant is born a slave in a circus. I say slave and I repeat, the animals in circuses are mistreated, mistreated, humiliated to make them docile and teach them to make the public smile. Those who do not succeed are sacrificed.

Animals from which man can derive something for his benefit are extinct. Elephants have not yet reached these limits. However, they are used for cargo, their tusks to obtain ivory, enslave them and exhibit them in circuses and zoos. This is the reality and he doesn't want to see it that way, let him not, I respect his opinion. If I had been able to enter the screen and his world, I would have accompanied Dumbo's mother to destroy the circus so that they would be serious as we Venezuelans say.

Dumbo was born with a disability, with big ears and because of this he was made fun of. Society bullies him and rejects him just for being different. He is just a baby and he is rejected. In humans this also happens, but nowadays very little. Society has changed. Before, having a different child was an atrocity and they were locked up at home so they could not be seen. And dad blamed it on the mother. In life everything that happens is the mother's fault.

This film raises many controversial issues of human society that still fails to confront, such as: contempt for those considered different, slavery, animal abuse and discrimination. Even when there are laws, man does what he wants and takes everything to achieve his ends. However, friendship prevails, which helps us to move forward. It only takes one impulse or one motivation to bring out that impetus to work towards what we desire. This is represented by Dumbo's friend, Timothy the mouse.

About Dumbo's disability and his big ears, the most important thing about this film is that it shows that the disability is mental, that you can achieve many things, survive and achieve goals. I enjoyed this movie 64 minutes of music, I saw it a long time ago. It won an Oscar for best soundtrack in 1941. I like all the soundtrack but my favorite is the melody "Son of the heart", I leave it for you to listen to it and remember your childhood.

Friends of #Movies&Shows Community, I invite you to bring out that kid in you and those beautiful times. When we played with our friends and defended each other. Enjoy this beautiful Disney film with delicious cotufas and with your family. It will serve as therapy for your soul. Dumbo, is a short movie but full of maternal love and the struggle to defend her child against all adversities. It was a successful movie and a box office hit despite its short length.

I went back to daydreaming and I felt that time did not pass, that it stopped, and I was there with my brothers and my parents. But I enjoyed it with my brother Manuel, who visited me on the weekend. Those unique moments are unforgettable. I am grateful for these opportunities that life has given me to share with my loved ones. . Thank you for visiting my Blog at #Hive.

  2. CineTvCintest. Favourite movie animal character: Dumbo (1941)@evaredskin1447d

    εικόνα.png

    source

Well, let's see, let's get started. It's been a long time since I've entered a Cinetv contest that I think I've forgotten how to write about.

    untitled.gif

cracking knuckles, moves fingers rhythmically over keyboard to get ready to type

Who is my favorite animal character in a movie? The answer, of course, cannot be easy. I will take a trip (nostalgic) to my childhood memories to remember movies that moved and excited me. Wy do I have to deep in my childhood? Because then we thought that whatever we were seeing on the screen, everything seemed so magical and so real, that anything could happen, even elephants flying.

So, today I'm going to tell you about a movie about a little elephant that all he wanted was to be accepted by others, -not being ostracized- because he was different from them. Dumbo is born with big ears and receives from a very young age the criticism and disapproval of others because he simply does not look like them (Maybe this reminds us of something in our modern times, eh?). But what everyone considers a disadvantage turns out to be his biggest weapon that helps him achieve everything he wanted.

I saw this movie when I was in elementary school, on the black and white TV we had at home. And since we were one of the few houses that had a television back then, friends from the neighborhood would gather at my house to watch "kids' shows," as the elders used to call them. And with the naivety of our childlike gaze, we were saddened every time Dumbo was driven away...we were impressed when we saw him fly...we laughed at the crows singing in that heavy, bass voice...

And with that childish gaze, that sadness I felt every time Dumbo was mistreated, I think I learned a very big lesson, perhaps one of the most valuable: Not to focus on anyone's difference and not judge anyone negatively based on that. Because these differences are the ones that make us all special.

Even though it has such an impact on me, believe me, I won't claim that Dumbo is a great movie -at least not for me. I wacthed it again after several years, on color television this time, in my early twenties. I found the film chatty, tedious and if given the option I would hit the fast forward button all the time. Somehow from the beginning, it seemed to me quite different from what I rememebered. But even in this second -quite prejudiced from my side- viewing, I found something to move me. this time, in addition to the moral message, I noticed the scene with the pink elephants (since I hadn't notice it earlier in black and white Tv). An amalgam of surrealism, color and movement, perhaps one of the best scenes (along with the wizard's apprentice scene in Fantasia) that Disney has shot.

Third time, I saw her with my niece. She was obsessed with Dumbo Drop, a Ray Liotta movie and I made her watch the classic Dumbo. Our little girl was thrilled with our little elephant that could fly. And at one point, she turned very serious and said to me: "I want to be like Dumbo." I asked teasingly "Elephant?" "No" she told me,"to fly, even though, I am not a bird". And till now, her biggest dream is to become a pilot.

    εικόνα.png

    source

But above all these times, I remember a phrase that my father told us back then, when I was a kid. We had not let him take his nap with our laughter and small talk, so he sat with us for a while to watch with us the "children's plays". It was the circus parade scene and my father, shaking his head, told us: "Humans are greedy. They imprison such beautiful animals, put them in cages for their own amusement". That made an impact on me and since then I haven't watched a circus with animals in my life.

So, this is my favourite animal character. A small elephant that teached me the biggest lessons in life: not to judge others by their characteristics, to imagine the most surrealistic things and last, but not least to believe in myself in order to achieve my goals.

Even though sometimes, we need, a magic feather, too to believe in ourselves.

PS. Have you noticed how "bizarre" it was the friendship of a mouse and an elephant, since elephants assumingly are afraid of mice? I hadn't noticed that, till my miece told me so. Brilliant example of a pair of friends!

  3. [Eng / Esp] CineTV Contest: Dumbo, bullying, love, surrealism and values. / Concurso CineTV: Dumbo, intimidación, amor, surrealismo y valores.@nbarrios671602d

I remember that my mother or my aunts used to take me to a movie theater called Lido, very close to the Chacaito area in the city of Caracas, where I smelled something similar to popcorn with soft drinks and when the movie started there was a smell like plastic.

The particularity of that movie theater was that every weekend at matinee they showed Disney movies, they were re-releases.

When I was about six years old, they took me to see the Dumbo movie, which was a very funny little elephant with a very special feature: his big ears.

At that time I did not really perceive the concepts of cruelty, humiliation, bullying or racism very well. All this happened in the movie, being the trigger of all this situation a difference, an imperfection that the poor little animal possessed. Seeing on screen how the animal was physically and psychologically mistreated caused me much sadness and indignation, the other elephants made fun of him, the clowns mistreated him physically, why did my mother bring me here to see it? I think this was the first approach I had to a terrible behavior that is very current nowadays: bullying.

    [Source](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4EZd2rkFaVo)
The only kind thing I perceived in certain moments is the tenderness that radiates from Dumbo's mother, defending him from animals and humans, for which she is separated from her son and locked up. This moment of confinement and separation seemed very cruel to me and it really was the trigger that made me cry. I felt the true love of a mother. [Source](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RR3BV0xa5Lk)
I was terrified at first and then I started to be kind of amused by the scene of the pink and multicolored elephants. Dumbo and his only friend so far Timothy the mouse drink water in which liquor had previously fallen, so they fall into a strange drunkenness where the strange thing is that they share the same dream, something ghostly and incomprehensible where elephants sing and dance in a sinister way. A very surreal scene for a children's movie. [Source](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wZtLswP69LQ)

So far my suffering, the elephant meets a gang of crows which, along with Timoteo are the only ones who help Dumbo throughout the film, they make him understand that he is special precisely because of what makes him different from other elephants: his ears. Dumbo manages to accept himself as he is and to take advantage of that defect: he can fly thanks to his big ears, finally the movie can make me laugh with the change of situations that happen next.

    [Source](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_v2exWrsGOc) [Source](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hNLiIehpLnE)

Dumbo didn't speak during the whole movie, but by seeing his face you could already empathize with his emotions, see his purity of heart. It is a movie that only lasts 64 minutes, bittersweet, but it brings as a moral that we must be tolerant with others because, although we are different we deserve a good treatment, it gives us to understand that success depends on each one of us and that many times, that defect that distresses us can be an ally.

Many of these things I learned over time thanks to the values that were instilled in me in my family, adding that the images of the film always haunted my mind.

As an adult, I understood that reading the film has much deeper implications, including Salvador Dalí, and even racism, but I will leave that for a future publication.

This is my participation in the dynamic sponsored by the CineTv Link community Link Here, related to the movies that have marked your childhood.

Thank you for appreciating this publication, I hope to have made you have a good time, recommending that as far as possible to visualize these cult works, always trying to see a little beyond the obvious, greetings to all and good luck with this dynamic in the new stage of our community CineTv.

    [Fuente](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jO-Xy67Yzzg)

    [Fuente](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xVOPa_Lypxk) [Fuente](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BR9TXIvQo5U)

  4. Disney's Dumbo (1941)@dlstudios2149d

    image.png

These next two Disney reviews are of movies I hate, a lot. Dumbo was easily one of my least favorite of all the movies, but since I haven't watched it since I was a kid I couldn't remember why. And it turns out that why is that there isn't anything that happens in this movie, at least not enough to warrant being a movie. It is, at best, a TV short that got needlessly stretched out to the length of a movie.

I'm not going to get much into the comedy as that is subjective, but the jokes just don't work for the most part. The talking train isn't random in a good way, it just... kind of talks and then things go on as normal. The Pink elephant acid trip (I don't believe for a moment it was alcohol spilled into the drinking water) was kind of interesting but entirely pointless. The only thing I liked about the movie was another entirely pointless scene, and that was the crows picking on Dumbo. Yes, they may have been racist caricatures of black people from back in the day, but they were funny and fun to watch, only really likable characters in the whole show (Okay, I do kind of like the Mouse too).

    image.png

The worst thing about this movie is that it kind of paints the idea of being famous in the circus as a good thing while simultaneously painting the people running the circus as cruel monsters who care nothing for the animals in their service, yet the movie ends with Dumbo winning them over by becoming a star. If they at least treated the animals with some kind of decency and respect that would be fine, but they just don't.

All that aside, the movie does have some good points. The show does a really good job of telling a story without words. Not that characters don't speak, Dumbo of course doesn't, but you always know what characters are feeling without them having to say it, and it's especially true of Dumbo. Though the best moments involve the Mouse, who never actually talks about his history at all. At the same time, with how he acts towards Dumbo, mixed with how he defends him from the Crows and how fantastic his expressions are, you can piece together his past was likely very similar to Dumbo's and that is where their connection comes from. Never does the movie state this, but the actions of the characters make it obvious without having to spell it all out.

    image.png

Despite my not liking this movie, watching it again I see this is a big step forward for Disney in terms of their storytelling in these films. Unlike shorts seen in Fantasia which only told a simple and easy to follow the story with Sorcerers Apprentice, Dumbo manages to say even more without explicitly stating it as I explained with the Mouse. It's obvious that their ability to craft a great movie is only growing at this point, it's just held down by the movie itself being too flimsy to be a full-length movie, the writing part of it all still hasn't come into its own yet. Still, it's clear even from these early stages why Disney Movies were such big hits.
