If you enjoy telenovelas—especially those with plenty of comedy—let me introduce you to Hasta que la plata nos separe. It is a Colombian telenovela starring Carmen Villalobos and Sebastián Martínez, alongside an incredible cast. The show presents two worlds: the lives of the social elite and those of everyday people. Each day plays out like a different movie, and mental and emotional stability play a crucial role. We follow the story of Rafael—a man to whom absolutely everything happens—who must act as his family's provider and a loyal friend, often coming across as a genuinely good, optimistic person. Then there is Alejandra, a beautiful woman of high social standing who manages a company called Ramenautos.
So far, everything seems to be going well.
Alejandra is about to get married. She holds a good job and owns an estate and a beautiful home. Her life changes drastically. Just days before her wedding, she is involved in a car accident, after which her attitude toward the company's employees shifts. She becomes anxious, imperious, and stubborn—changes seemingly caused by Rafael. He had been rushing to fulfill an order so he could use the money to pay his sister's university tuition.
When Alejandra’s car plunges over a cliff, he pulls her out and protects her; he essentially saves her life. Yet, he loses his own—or rather, Alejandra takes everything from him: his dignity, his time, and his home. He is blamed for the accident, even though he was essentially innocent.
I don't want to give away too many spoilers.
I’ll just tell you that Alejandra’s fiancé is a scoundrel, a gigolo, and an opportunist. He is an incredible character—so much so that he makes you angry and makes you laugh; you want to punch him, yet you even grow fond of him. That can only mean one thing: the actor is excellent.
As the telenovela progresses, many situations unfold involving Alejandra and Rafael, and truths and lies come to light. We begin to understand why the characters are the way they are; I really appreciate how each actor was given the time and a well-crafted backstory, as well as a moment for their character to transform.
I don’t want to reveal too many plot details in this review, so I’ll just mention a few highlights. As for the actors, honestly, they all rose to the occasion, though a few characters lacked a bit of spark. Take Alejandra’s (the protagonist's) cousin, for example: it was clear the role called for a woman who was poised, calm, and well-mannered.
Then there was Gregorio Pernía: an absolute 10 out of 10, truly excellent; he shines in every role he plays. Although there were moments when I wanted to punch him, his character was essential to the telenovela; he brought it to life and added a dose of comedy.
Another character I loved was "La Pajarita," played by Juliette Pardau; she was beautiful and hardworking, but also a bit toxic, crazy, and manipulative. She used her intelligence to dominate her boyfriend, Rafael, as well as her parents and siblings. Living in a very chauvinistic environment, she was desperate to leave home and live with Rafael, who was the exact opposite: a genuinely good man.
The telenovela premiered in 2022, just as the pandemic was coming to an end, so I’m sure a lot of people watched it. It was produced by RCN Televisión. I love telenovelas, especially Colombian ones; they feature plenty of comedy and don't drag on endlessly. That said, I felt the ending was a bit drawn-out, even though the beginning was spectacular.
One of the episodes I enjoyed most was when Alejandra and Rafael went to a wedding; they sang, got drunk, and finally spoke their minds. It was really fun and highly entertaining.
At first, you might feel anxious watching the protagonist's behavior and seeing how Rafael lets himself be walked all over and humiliated, but over time, you grow fond of them; they are truly special characters.
And, of course, you can't expect a bad telenovela when it comes from Fernando Gaitán.
Si te gustan las telenovelas, y que tengan mucha comedia, te presento Hasta que la plata nos separe. Es una telenovela colombiana protagonizada por Carmen Villalobos y Sebastián Martínez, junto con un elenco increíble. La telenovela nos presenta dos mundos: la vida de la sociedad de alto estrato y la de la sociedad de a pie. Donde el día a día es una película diferente, donde la estabilidad mental y emocional juegan un papel importante; en este caso vamos a hablar de Rafael, un hombre al que le pasa absolutamente de todo en la vida; tiene que ser el proveedor de su familia, buen amigo y muchas veces pega de buena gente y optimista. Y Alejandra, una chica hermosa de buen estatus social, gerente de una empresa llamada Ramenautos.
Hasta acá todo parece ir bien
Alejandra está a punto de casarse. Tiene un buen puesto laboral, una hacienda y una casa hermosa. Su vida cambia drásticamente. Cuando justo unos días antes de su boda tiene un accidente automovilístico, ella cambia su actitud ante los trabajadores de la empresa. Llega ansiosa, déspota y obstinada; todo esto ocurre aparentemente por culpa de Rafael; este quería llegar rápido a despachar un pedido para con esa plata poder cancelar la matrícula de su hermana en la universidad.
Cuando Alejandra cae al precipicio, él la saca del auto y la protege; prácticamente salva su vida. Y pierde la de él porque básicamente le entregó todo Alejandra. Su dignidad, tiempo y hogar; fue culpado del accidente siendo él básicamente inocente.
No les quiero hacer tanto spoiler
Solo le contaré que el novio de Alejandra es un canalla, chulo y oportunista; fue uno de los personajes más increíbles, tanto así que sientes rabia, te ríes, provoca golpearlo y hasta le tomas cariño al personaje. Eso solo quiere decir una cosa: es excelente actor.
A medida que avanza la TELENOVELA, van pasando muchas situaciones con Alejandra y Rafael; se van descubriendo mentiras y verdades. Vamos entendiendo por qué los personajes son así; me gusta mucho que cada uno de los actores le dieron su tiempo su historia bien hecha y su momento de transformar el personaje
En esta reseña no le quiero hacer tanto spoiler, así que solo le comentaré. De algunos capítulos favoritos y los actores, sinceramente, todos dieron la talla, aunque hubiera unos que no tenían tanta sal. En el caso de la prima de Alejandra, la protagonista, se nota que es el papel que le dieron, que era así una mujer serena, tranquila y educada.
Existen otros personajes como Gregorio Pernía, que estuvo 100/10, la verdad, excelente; su personaje es excelente en cada papel que interpreta. Aunque muchas veces provocaba golpearlo, fue alguien que tenía que estar sí por qué sí en la TELENOVELA; le dio vida y comedia a la misma.
Otro personaje que amé fue el de la PAJARITA, interpretación que hizo Juliette Pardau; era una chica bella, trabajadora, un poco tóxica, loca y manipuladora. Su inteligencia hacía que dominara a su novio Rafael, sus padres y hermanos; vivía en un entorno bien machista y, por ende, quería salir de su casa para vivir con Rafael, que era todo lo contrario y muy buen hombre.
Fue una telenovela que estrenaron en el 2022; casi estábamos terminando la pandemia, así que muchas personas de seguro la vieron. Fue producida por RCN Televisión. Yo amo las telenovelas y más si son colombianas; tienen mucha comedia y no se alargan tanto. Sin embargo, al final sí la entendieron un poco, pero el principio estuvo espectacular.
Un capítulo que más disfruté fue cuando Alejandra y Rafael se van a una boda y cantan y se embriagan y se dicen sus verdades. Fue muy chistosa, la verdad, y bastante cómica.
Al principio sentirás ansiedad al ver cómo actúa la protagonista y cómo Rafael se deja pisotear y humillar tanto, pero luego le agarras amor; son realmente especiales.
Y no se puede esperar una telenovela mala si es de Fernando Gaitán
