Plot
The film opens on a sunny and clear July 2, with an unexpected signal received by a Space Research Center located in New Mexico. The signal is shared directly to the U.S. Pentagon and is later found to be coming from the moon, indicating that a huge object is approaching the earth and it is not a meteorite, but an extraterrestrial spacecraft. While the President of the United States learns of this great news, an MIT graduate who works for a cable company in New York analyzes the signal that seems to be blocking satellite communications, in addition to having a message that seems to be not at all pleasant. Leaving aside the fact that this movie seems to be one of those super-produced films to magnify on a huge scale the very celebration of "Independence Day" in the United States both in the world of cinema and in the general culture itself; it must be said that among all the movies I remember seeing from that era, this one is without a doubt one of my favorites for multiple reasons. And it's no surprise that I'm not the only one who thinks this way since, those who are at least contemporaries with me - who were born during the 90s or earlier - will also recognize how great this movie is (or at least was at the time). While critics have been very divided in their opinions about this film at the time, after almost 30 years and a failed attempt to repeat the success it had a decade ago, it is clear that today it is one of the best films that have been produced in the science fiction genre. Whether for its plot, its excellent visual effects or its unforgettable characters, this film is among the best in this section of alien invasion movies.

Ya sea por su trama, por sus excelentes efectos visuales o por sus inolvidables personajes, esta película está entre las mejores de esta sección de películas de invasiones extraterrestres.

They all witness the series of events I mentioned above, something that would normally cause anyone to be terrified and hysterical, but apparently these characters are not. However, what leads them to become part of a major event is the clear message of invasion and destruction sent by the space visitors (with one of the best audiovisual scenes ever produced in cinema up to that time). Everyone fights for their side so that humanity will win and thus put an end to the invading aliens as possible.
I already want to mention my respect for the tremendous acting and interpretation work of each and every one of the actors who are part of this cast. And I say this not only for the obvious and at the same time excellent work done by Will Smith and Jeff Goldblum, but for the others who in turn demonstrated their talent by leaving us several examples of courage, confidence and love for the homeland. While I don't deny the obvious American publicist that Hollywood has forced down our throats with this movie, I admit that it was worth watching it hundreds of times since I was a kid because of how entertaining it is. And the fact is that at a time when the science fiction genre was at its most golden age, this film achieved the unthinkable by combining one of the best audiovisual works of that era with several good actors and a very traditional and popular U.S. homeland date. This, evidently, has not always worked out so well in earlier or later cases, which gives more prestige and value to the excellent work the Russian did with this film.

Empecemos hablando de la trama de esta película, la cual parece se divide entre varios papeles, varias historias que al final se unen en un día memorable tanto para Estados Unidos como para el resto del mundo. Aparte de uno de los pocos Presidentes de los Estados Unidos que admiro por ser alguien valiente y decidido (hablo únicamente del personaje de esta película), también conocemos a un aparente genio del MIT que trabaja en una empresa de cable, un viejo borracho fumigador con experiencia manejando aviones que parece tuvo una experiencia paranormal y un marine que está de vacaciones con su esposa e hijo pequeño en casa descansando. Todos presencian la serie de acontecimientos que ya mencioné arriba, algo que normalmente a cualquiera causaría pavor e histeria, pero al parecer a estos personajes no les sucede esto. Sin embargo, lo que los lleva a convertirse en parte de un gran acontecimiento es el mensaje claro de invasión y destrucción que mandan los visitantes del espacio (con una de las mejores escenas audiovisuales que se han producido en el cine hasta la época). Todos luchan por su lado para que la humanidad venza y así acabar como sea posible con los extraterrestres invasores.
Desde ya quiero mencionar mi respeto por el tremendo trabajo de actuación e interpretación que tienen todos y cada uno de los actores que forman parte de este elenco. Y no solo lo digo por el evidente y a la vez excelente trabajo que realizan Will Smith y Jeff Goldblum, sino por los demás que a su vez demostraron su talento al dejarnos varios ejemplos de valor, confianza y amor por la patria. Si bien no niego la evidente propaganda estadounidense que nos han hecho tragar los de Hollywood con esta película, admito que valió la pena verla una y cientos de veces desde que era pequeño por lo entretenida que es. Y es que en una época en la que el género de la ciencia ficción estaba en su época más dorada, esta película logró lo impensable al combinar uno de los mejores trabajos audiovisuales de esa época con varios buenos actores y una fecha patria muy tradicional y popular de los Estados Unidos. Esto, evidentemente, no siempre ha resultado tan bien en casos anteriores o posteriores, lo cual le da más prestigio y valor al excelente trabajo que hizo el ruso con esta película.

Y como dije ya en varias ocasiones, no solo están las actuaciones y el humor de la película, sino también esos momentos que quedaron enmarcados tanto en el mundo del cine como en la historia y la cultura popular, escenas que impactan, generan emoción y a la vez nostalgia por ser de lo mejor que los años 90s nos ha traído en la pantalla grande.
