    ENGLISH CONTENT

Hello to all the members of this community and movie lovers! Lately I've been watching series and movies based on the themes of robots and artificial intelligence and today it's the turn of I.A. Artificial Intelligence, one of the movies that I got to see several times when I was little, since its success led it to be broadcast on open television on several occasions. Although, since I have a goldfish memory and it's been a long time since I last saw it, I decided to do it again to refresh my memory... I just didn't imagine I'd find such a cinematic gem 😳

In a future where the melting of the polar ice caps brought humanity almost to extinction, the use of technology was one of the tools that allowed the human race to rise again. Robots, which soon became an indispensable part of society, fully fulfilled the tasks for which they had been created, appearing the definitions "Orga" for humans or organic beings and "Mecha" for robots or mechanical beings. Despite how similar robots could be to humans, the latter did not fully accept them, as if a part of their nature was incapable of feeling true emotion for something that was entirely made of metal. A scientist from Cybertronics then proposed the idea of creating a robot based on a child (something that had not been done before), but not just any robot child, but one that was capable of loving and awakening in its human parents, the same affective feeling. Perhaps with the hope of generating in humans, a warmer feeling, instead of aversion.

After the robot boy was created, a special family was selected to take him in, a couple whose son was cryogenically frozen due to an illness. In that future, births are controlled and in order to have children, couples need to obtain a special permit that is only granted to those who meet the necessary requirements. When Henry Swinton, an employee of the company where the robot boy was created, receives the news that he was selected to raise him, he sees in it the opportunity to get his wife out of the depression she faces after the loss of their son. This is how David, the robot boy, comes into the life of Monica, who at first is terrified by the idea of raising a child that is not her son.

At first, Monica is wary of the whole thing. She is disturbed by how "real" David looks to a human child, so she tries to avoid him. But as the days go by, the tender robot begins to tame her heart with his programming based entirely on feelings and the search for "love." The woman then decides to keep the robot child and raise him as her own, giving him the attentions of a mother.

Until one day, a miracle happens: Monica and Henry's son wakes up and is taken home. The parents are happy to have their real son back, but David begins to feel feelings he doesn't understand when he sees himself displaced by his "brother" Martin. After an incident that nearly costs Monica's biological son his life, she decides to take David back to the factory where he will inevitably be destroyed. Monica changes her mind at the last minute and decides to abandon the boy in a wooded area instead, warning him to only trust other robots.

Completely devastated by his abandonment, David begins a painful journey to find a way to become a real boy and finally make his mother love him; he encounters multiple dangers, the cruelty of humanity, the delicate line between the Mecha and the Orga, as well as the truth about his origins.

Click to read my opinion on the film

The truth is, I didn't remember at all that the plot of the film was so murky and crude and precisely, that is what makes it so great. I have noticed that the films of "yesteryear" have a way of narrating that has completely become extinct. In this type of films, stories are told without any holds barred, without trying to please the viewer or touching on topics in a subtle way to avoid offending or being too cruel. I love how in this film, human nature is addressed by seeing it reflected through the treatment that humans have with robots.

Seeing how humans treat robots mercilessly, while the latter act with such purity, makes my blood run cold. I really love how robots or "mechas" behave like innocent people without malice, in contrast to organic beings, who having the capacity to feel emotions, do not hesitate to reject them. The work of the actors is great. I really like Joe's character and how he ends up relating to poor David, it makes you think of those friendships that arise in the midst of difficulties and that make you feel tender.

The special effects are incredible for me, because I'm impressed by how they managed to make everything look so great without having today's technology. Because that's one of the aspects that I don't enjoy about today's movies, everything is done digitally and even though it looks "realistic", it still lacks "something", that touch that movies like this generated through the meticulous work of the artists. The sets, the robots and everything technological that can be seen in the film is fascinating.

I cried a lot with this movie, I didn't remember it being so depressing or rather, when I was a child I was unable to understand what was happening and to empathize with its characters the way I did, I feel like I saw it for the first time. It's a beautiful story that has nothing to envy of current film works. I'm now obsessed with finding movies with this kind of plot that are so full of feeling. They make me genuinely cry and feel human!

With the advances in robotics and artificial intelligence, it wouldn't be crazy to think that in the future, robot children like David will be a reality. This makes me feel a bit sad, because if real intelligence could come to perceive itself emotionally in the way that we humans do, it would be quite cruel and I feel sorry for them 🙃

Without a doubt, it has become one of my favorite movies and I will watch it again when my heart is ready haha if you haven't seen it, I highly recommend it. You won't regret it 😉

  2. A.I. Artificial Intelligence, a cinematic gem@ismaca937d
    [Image](https://www.filmaffinity.com/ve/filmimages.php?movie_id=178002)

The film presents us with a future where android artificial intelligence is a reality.

A robot named David is created by his programmer with the ability to love unconditionally.

From the beginning, I felt a lot of empathy for David. His innocence and desire to please his surrogate mother made him an endearing character.

When he is abandoned in the forest, my heart cringed as I watched his brave but desperate journey.

    [Image](https://www.filmaffinity.com/ve/filmimages.php?movie_id=178002)

What touched me most was his capacity to love. Despite being a robot, he longed to be human so he could be with Monica.

That scene under the tree, where he gives his last gift, is profoundly sad and beautiful.

I think the film made a valuable reflection on what it means to be human beyond the flesh.

David demonstrated a sentimental essence that was completely human. That is probably the reason for its great success and impact on the audience.

I was left wondering about the future he posited, where the artificial could develop consciousness.

    [Image](https://www.filmaffinity.com/ve/filmimages.php?movie_id=178002)

It certainly invites us to rethink our vision of intelligence and the capacity to love.

A cinematic gem that will resonate deeply with those who see it.

My favorite movie with Robots is Artificial Intelligence, this movie moves every fiber of my being because I am a mother and the connection I have with my 8-year-old son is special, I know that the love of a mother for her child can transcend any limit and that Even within their relationship, a world is created that only mother and son understand. This film is futuristic, it proposes a scenario where the world is largely flooded because the ice has melted, advances in technology have made possible the creation of human-looking robots that have come to fulfill different functions, however A robot child is created only with the intention of loving his mother and functioning as another member of a family. This child is David, who was programmed to love a mother who at that moment suffers because her biological son is in a process of temporary suspension while trying to find a cure for a disease, that is, this child robot came to help the mother emotionally, not as a substitute for the biological child but as another child.

    image.png

    Source

The problem of the film comes when the biological child returns home after they find a cure for the disease, which leaves David the robot in a difficult position, since the biological child does not want to have a robot at home receiving the same loving treatment and attention that he has as a son, that is why he does some bad actions so that the family loses trust in David and the father decides to return him to the factory for destruction, but the mother cannot do such a thing and decides to leave him to drifts, abandons him far from home so that they do not destroy him, that was his way of saving him, however David has been programmed to love his mother forever, so he will do everything possible and go through very dangerous situations only with the goal of seeing his beloved mother again.

    image.png

    Source

I feel that the love between the mother and David was genuine, although he was a robot he had more sense of humanity than humans themselves, the end of the film is very sad, because David survives for many years and awakens when humanity is extinct, the He still wants to have his mother, this is only achieved thanks to the beings from the future who try to know the human race and who get David as a precious being due to his experience living with extinct humans, they make him see a clone of his mother just for one day, for him it is the perfect day, living with his mother one last time 🥺, that makes me think how many of us have loved our mothers so much or have that special connection with our children, how many have Having lost their mother, they would like to have her again, even if it's just for a day. This is a film whose robot protagonist is more human than humans.

  4. Film Review: A. I. Artificial Intelligence (2001)@drax1108d

    (source: tmdb.org

When an expensive and ambitious science fiction film is made by a film maker known as a giant of the genre and originally developed by another giant of the genre, science fiction fans tend to have their expectations quite high. What could possibly go wrong? A plenty, if we are to judge by A. I. Artificial Intelligence, 2001 film directed by Steven Spielberg.

The film is based on “Supertoys Last All Summer Long”, 1969 short story by Brian W. Aldiss. The plot is set in relatively near future, when the global warming cause Earth’s ice caps to melt and raise sea levels, flooding most of the coastal cities, including New York. Due to loss of arable lands, governments have introduced tight population control and massive use of robots in order to humans that spend too much resources. In time, robots have advanced to the levels that they can work the most complex tasks, and the Cybertronics Corporation, led by Professor Allen Hobby (played by William Hurt), have developed a human-looking robots that are going to be used by childless couples. Henry Swinton (played by Sam Robards) and his wife Monica (played by Frances O’Connor) are one such couple; their son Martin (played by Jake Thomas) suffers from incurable disease and is kept in suspended animation. They reluctantly agree to receive one of Cybertronics products – David (played by Haley Joel Osment), robot that looks a boy and is programmed to love his “mother”. At first his life in the family is idyllic, but when Martin gets miraculously cured and brought back to his family, Swintons prefer their biological child to robot. After series of incidents Monica decides to get rid of David, but doesn’t have the heart to return it to corporation that would destroy it. David is instead left in the woods. There he begins his quest back to the mother in a hope that she would return his feelings. On this difficult and, at times, apocalyptic journey, David receives help from Gigolo Joe (played by Jude Law), robot specialised for providing sexual services to women.

Work on A. I. was started more than decade earlier by Stanley Kubrick, director famous for 2001: A Space Odyssey and A Clockwork Orange, two science fiction classics. Partly because of his perfectionism and partly because special effects, even with newly introduced CGI technology, weren’t up to his high standards, Kubrick in late 1990s switched his attention to less demanding Eyes Wide Shut. In the meantime, Kubrick was discussing the project with his friend Spielberg and two film makers ultimately concluded that Spielberg was more suitable for the project. In the end, this doomed the film, making it into ultimately unsatisfying compromise between two very different artistic visions. Kubrick’s cold and misanthropic view of the world was difficult to reconcile with Spielberg’s infantile sentimentalism. Opposing creative imperatives made A. I. look distorted and confusing, although there are some sections of the film that are better than others. The first third of the film, that takes place in Swinton’s home is the most Kubrickian, most consistent and most effective. But as soon we leave the world in which robotic love confronts human imperfection and insensitivity, we are faced with combination of Pinocchio story and “political correctness” brought to audience with subtlety of a bull in china shop. The worst is the finale in which Spielberg delivers confusing and unconvincing deus ex machina ending that would leave many in the audience disappointed.

Some of the structural issues of the film are somewhat compensated with good work by diverse cast. Australian actress Frances O’Connor delivers much stronger performance than Osment and Law playing robots. A. I. is attractive in strictly visual sense, with images of futuristic Rogue City being clearly inspired by Blade Runner. Even more impressive is flooded New York City, although Spielberg had terrible misfortune of include images of still-standing WTC Towers in a film released few months before 9/11, making his film obsolete almost instantly. Although A. I. asked some interesting ethics questions about nature and limits of humanity, Spielberg apparently wasn’t the right person to answer them.

  5. A.I. - Artificial Intelligence (2001) - A little personal review.@valentin861663d

    A.I. - Artificial Intelligence (2001) - A little personal review.

**I'm not a movie critic, i'm just a consumer of good movies. Ok, now as a general opinion, this is the kind of movie that is probably harder to digest by those who are used to more "aggressive" science fiction. Here you do not see violence or ugly scenes that turn the film into a commercial with which we have been taught for years, it is a film that conveys strong feelings, with a perhaps slower action and with actors who in my opinion play very well. The ending practically tests your level of empathy, the end completely blocked me and the soundtrack is simply fantastic. I simply recommend it to everyone. I say it's worth the precious time to watch it. Watching the trailer below, you will easily realize that you will expect some film production.** **Okay, just a little summary** >*This film production presents a period in which mineral resources are limited and technology is advancing at an astronomical speed. A time when your life is being monitored. Food is made synthetically, and the person serving you is by no means a human being; it's a robot. Gardening, housekeeping, companion - so there is a robot for every need. Except for love. Sentiment is the last and most controversial frontier in robot evolution. Robots are seen as sophisticated devices; they are supposed to have no feelings. But the existence of so many parents who cannot have children has made the offers abundant.* **Ok, now i can say that the story of the film takes place in an advanced future of humanity, in which an android with the appearance of a child is experimentally created, which is placed in a young family whose child was seriously ill. Android is endowed with the unique ability to love, but the unexpected recovery of the sick child causes the parents to abandon the surrogate child. Little David embarks on an epic journey to find the cure that will turn him from a robot into a man, in the desire to be repressed in the family he loved.** **So, seeing  this ideas, and seeing them hoe is flush it out, it's really fun. In general, the film presents a future era, a disastrous possibility of life that awaits us, due to the sometimes uncontrolled technologies, as presented by the director Steven Spielberg (from my point of view, this human being proved to be the most intelligent filmmaker of our times - Respectfully thougts about this man). With this film production, Steven Spielberg managed to link the best screenplay of the story with Pinnochio in an interesting combination with science fiction ideas about artificial intelligence.**

For more info i recommend this for watching

**The special effects are very successful and so is the soundtrack, not to mention the actors who play their roles flawlessly, the little robot boy being masterful. I can say it's a must see movie ... I recommend it. Thank you for your precious time. All the best to everyone - Cheers**
