Hello friends of Hive, dear community of The Anime Realm, I hope you are doing great, this time, I want to talk about an anime that you surely know, but it may be that the newer ones in the environment, do not know about it... that's why I wanted to bring you my opinions on the anime: Kakegurui! Seriously, if you haven't seen this series, hold on because it is totally crazy, from beginning to end... wow! I mean... imagine this: a private academy like this, super elite, Hyakkaou, sounds normal, right? Like prestigious, full of future leaders and all that, well forget about grades, forget about sports... in this school, your social position, your future, everything!, is decided by one thing: gambling... yes, just as you hear it, the kids are pure heirs to giant fortunes, children of politicians, future CEOs, and they spend their time locked up betting big on games of chance and skill. The student council is not just the popular ones; They're the meanest, most bastardly players, who run the school like it's their own kingdom. It's scary!

And what happens if you lose badly? Oh my God! If you rack up a bunch of debt you can't pay, you become a "mascot," basically less than human, forced to listen to the winners, with a little name tag so everyone knows who you are, treated like garbage... it's brutal, and the whole idea caught my attention instantly. It's really twisted, but like... you like it, right? How the hell does a society like that work? Then, into this nest of vipers arrives Yumeko Jabami. She seems cool, polite, and even a little naive at first glance... but inside... she's something else! Yumeko doesn't go for money or status; She's a compulsive gambler in the purest sense, she takes an almost... ecstatic pleasure in risk, in putting it all on the line... the higher the stakes, the more she gets hooked, she has this incredible ability to pick out the traps, even the most hidden ones. Watching her unravel a rigged game while putting on that I-won't-do-it, almost innocent face is truly mesmerizing... you keep thinking: "Is she crazy? Is she a genius? Or both?" She turns the entire school hierarchy on its head because she doesn't play by its rules of intimidation and inherited power; she just wants the thrill of a real bet against someone who'll actually put up a fight, really, it's fascinating to watch her move.

Well, let’s talk about how this looks… the animation is by MAPPA, and it’s spectacular! The character designs are super well done, you remember them immediately, and they have a brutal style… but what really breaks it… are the faces they make, when the bets get really intense here, their faces get deformed, but badly! Super exaggerated masks, almost grotesque, like they’re in heaven, or desperate, or just plain crazy… eyes popping out, jaws falling out, tongues sticking out… it’s super exaggerated! Sometimes it even takes you off guard, but it perfectly captures all the madness and emotional tension of the moment, you won’t forget that image, I assure you!

It’s like the trademark of the series... maybe some people won’t like it, it might seem like a lot, but the truth is I think it really increases the tension and the obsessive vibe of the characters, it’s a feast for the eyes, even if at times it leaves you feeling like “what’s up with this?” You have to see it in HD no matter what, the detail is incredible. And the games... are on another level, I went in expecting the typical stuff, right? Poker, blackjack, those normal gambling things... but Kakegurui gets super creative. Yes, there are card games, but almost always with some really crazy and complicated twists, then they come out with things like Rock, Paper, Scissors but modified with bets that make you say “what?!”, super difficult memory challenges, even versions of Russian Roulette where you risk your life! (Yes, that’s as far as it goes!).

And even, believe it or not, a bet based on an idol singing competition in the second season... all that variety means you won’t get bored and you never know what’s going to happen. It’s not just about watching people playing cards; you’re watching super weird, tailor-made tests to test your luck, your skill, how you think, and how good you are at cheating or catching on. Some games are simple but will keep you on the edge of your seat, others are so complex that your head will explode, but almost all of them are super entertaining to watch as they unfold.

Now, the cheating thing... it's everywhere, seriously, I mean, almost everyone who plays against Yumeko tries to rig the game in their favor, and often in super creative ways, honestly... at first, I did wonder if this wasn't going to get repetitive, you know? Just watching Yumeko figure out the trick over and over again. But what do you think? That becomes part of the joke, the tension isn't just in the game itself, but in that wave of seeing how Yumeko detects the cheat and boom!, she turns it back on the other... it's not so much pure strategy against luck, it's more like dodging pure traps and dirty tricks. Figuring out how they're cheating and how Yumeko is going to expose them becomes a big part of the fun, it reminds me a bit of those series where the protagonist seems invincible, the excitement isn't in whether she's going to win, but in the creative and sometimes super complicated way in which she achieves it.

Now, with that said, let’s get to the nitty-gritty: Yumeko’s win streak… yeah, the truth is, you almost always start watching a match and you half-know that Yumeko is going to win, or at least that she’s not going to be completely destroyed, there were times early on where I was like, “Okay, she’s got this one in the bag.” But the show often does a good job of making the whole process so intense, and making the opponent’s downfall so spectacular, that you still get hooked. Then there are also times when things don’t quite go her way, or where the stakes feel pretty ugly, and that adds more layers of tension.. It’s a valid criticism, yes, but for me, Yumeko’s sheer style, crazy games, and gripping personality almost always won out over the predictability. The focus shifts from thinking, “Will she win?” to think "How badly will he destroy his opponent this time?".. and the passion the characters have for betting is... intense, the series really gets into the psychological aspects: the addiction, the desperation, that half-sick pleasure they get from pure risk.

And those exaggerated faces I was telling you about? Many times they're like moments of almost... sexual? ecstasy, that the bet gives them... it's strong, and not at all subtle, I understand perfectly that this might shock some, you know? It feels like something exciting and at the same time super sick... for me, it was part of the unique and somewhat uncomfortable vibe of the series, it explores the extremes of how people behave in this strange and high-risk environment. The second season takes things in a new direction... there's a totally new dynamic and a ton of new characters, many of them quite eccentric - the Momobami clan, who are relatives of the president, all fighting for power... the focus is no longer so much on Yumeko versus a member of the council, but on a bigger battle to control the school, which involves gathering votes. Guess how? Well, with more bets!

I thought it was a smart move, it broadened the scope, introduced new threats, and kept the formula from feeling too repetitive. I felt like the stakes were raised even further, in a way. One area where the series falters a little is in the development of the secondary characters. I mean, Yumeko is fascinating, but characters like Suzui (her first friend/the one who sort of sticks with her) or even Mary Saotome (her early rival who later has a complicated relationship with her) don't always seem to give much depth to their motivations or their stories, they're often just there to react to Yumeko's crazy antics, as if we're watching her, or as pieces in larger games. They have their moments, right? Especially Mary, who does get some decent development, but the focus is entirely on Yumeko and the spectacle of the stakes.

If you’re looking for super complex and layered character arcs for everyone, this might not be quite right for you… but hey, the show is called Kakegurui, and the music… the openings for both seasons are amazing, seriously! Very stylish, catchy, and they perfectly capture the chaotic energy and look of the show, I definitely wouldn’t skip them… the music during the bets works really well too, it raises the tension and highlights the dramatic moments, it’s like another layer of quality to an already amazing production… so, any final thoughts? Kakegurui is a great anime, it has style, it’s daring and it’s completely crazy, but in a good way, the premise is unique, it looks spectacular (if you can stand the faces!), the games are creative and Yumeko is an unforgettable protagonist...

Yes, it can be predictable at times, and sometimes the secondary characters needed more development, and the pure intensity of the gambling obsession can be too much for some... but how entertaining it is. There were times when I literally held my breath, times when my mouth was open and others when I just had to laugh at how shameless it all is, honestly, I give Kakegurui a solid 8.5/10... it delivers exactly what it promises: high-stakes gambling madness with incredible style, it knows what it is and goes all in... and well, that’s it for today’s post, I hope you liked it, see you in the next reviews, take care! Byebye!

The story takes place at Hyakkaou Private Academy, a high school where Japan's richest students are measured not by their intelligence or athletic abilities, but by their gambling prowess. Here, the winners become the school's elite, while the losers are transformed into slaves known as "pets."

Everything changes with the arrival of Yumeko Jabami, a transfer student who bets not for money or status, but for pure excitement and adrenaline. Her presence shakes the foundations of the academy, facing the most sadistic and twisted players of the student council.

As Yumeko progresses, the games become more extreme, and her true nature, that of a gambling addict, is revealed with each confrontation.

Lo que mas me gusto / What I liked the most

Yumeko Jabami is not your typical anime protagonist. She doesn't gamble to win money or recognition, but because she loves risk and danger. Her transformation from a sweet, polite girl to a total maniac with eyes shining with excitement is one of the most fascinating aspects of the anime.

Each episode features a new gambling challenge, from rigged roulette wheels to poker games with twisted rules. The tension is real, and while the games can sometimes seem absurd, the way the deceptions and strategies unfold keeps the viewer hooked.

Studio MAPPA did an exceptional job on the animation. One of the most iconic elements of Kakegurui is the exaggerated facial expressions the characters show when they are desperate, ecstatic, or on the verge of madness. These extreme reactions reinforce the intensity of each bet.

The Hyakkaou Student Council is a group of characters as quirky as they are terrifying. Each has a unique and twisted playstyle, and their clashes with Yumeko are not only thrilling, but reveal the perverse power dynamics at the academy.

From the elegant outfits to the glamorous gambling sets, Kakegurui exudes an atmosphere of wealth and excess. Plus, its soundtrack has a seductive and mysterious air, with an extremely addictive opening that perfectly represents the essence of the anime.

Lo que no me gusto / What I dont like

Each episode follows a similar structure, bet, trap, unexpected twist, total madness. While the stakes are varied, the formula can become predictable over time.

Even though some of the student council characters are very interesting, the series focuses too much on Yumeko, leaving little room for the growth of other protagonists like Ryota or Mary Saotome (although in the second season she improves a bit).

    ¿Recomiendo Kakegurui? / Do I recommend Kakegurui?

If you're looking for a different, quirky, and intense anime, Kakegurui is an excellent choice. Its combination of stakes, madness, and psychological manipulation makes for a unique and entertaining experience.

It's not an anime for everyone: if you're expecting a story with great depth or realism, Kakegurui may not be your thing. However, if you enjoy unpredictable characters, exaggerated facial expressions, and an atmosphere of constant tension, then you'll love it.

    Veredicto final: 8/10 - Final verdict: 8/10

Despite some issues with repetitiveness and a lack of development in secondary characters, Kakegurui shines for its charismatic protagonist, its intense atmosphere and its striking animation. An anime that will keep you entertained and surprised with every unexpected turn in the game.

  3. Kakegurui Twin 「賭ケグルイ双」 (2022, 6 episodes)@onlyjob497d

School with strange gambling obsession. All girls gamble to climb ranks or fall down to the bottom. There are somewhat interesting games and tactics to win but most games end by cheating. "You cheated!" "But when rules were explained nobody said that cheating is not allowed." "Ah, OK then."

"Netflix series", which should raise your suspicions and lower expectations.

  4. Yumeko Jabami from Kakegurui

I am here again but probably after 2 weeks I am participating or posting something in this community do you remember guys what I made last time yes, it was a fan art but it was made on suggestion of other community members like always it was really liked by other users but since that I have not found any other suggestion from the community member to make any fan art so this time I am making a new fan art on my own as I love this character Yumeko Jabami from Kakegurui to be honest I have not watch this anime yet but I can almost understand the story of the Anime as I have read a bit manga on a website as well as watched a lot of shorts on YouTube this make me a big fan of this character she is brave and bold now let's start about how I made this and if you are interested in the story there are many members I saw in this community before writing a review about this so I wouldn't write anything about this story just a typical fan art.

    ##

    Procedure

Now let's start about the whole process how I made this 😁. ![](https://images.ecency.com/DQmQa2kWexDEMDqd1rpgf5D683rsn3uuccFAAUyXeKoiQ6L/img_20240515_190152.jpg) * In first step with the help of a lead pencil draw the whole sketch of the figure here because as you know the lead pencil is removable in case you do something wrong you can easily alter The original art.

    • Now the main work is started for face I used equal amount of red, blue and yellow colour mix it will become brown colour now add 80% of your poster white colour to give it a perfect skin colour and for shading I add a very few amount of black.

    • I didn't use black postal colour directly from the pot I added a few amount of water for making a shade in the hait and red for making her skirt I added red and brown for shading the dress.

  5. Kakegurui: A Thrilling & Gripping Anime ~ Review@vinzie1812d

Hi, every one, I'm going to review this anime that is one of my favorite. Not just a favorite one but one of a kind game where the characters play in a game at a costs of their money or even their lives. This is one of my most awaited TV series when this was released on 2017 but I didn't know that I watched this again and again.

Writer : Homura Kawamoto Illustrator : Tōru Naomura Genre: Gambling; Psychological thriller Status: Finished Airing

    Story

The story comes from the life of Jabami Yumeko who was recently enrolled at Hyakkaou Private Academy where the students here came from the wealthiest family and most influential people but some are just a normal student who wants to study. Jabami Yumeko is a game addict and a compulsive gamblers where she plays games to the students in the school.

This school has a unique system that the principal don't have any power to control the student from the school instead the student body that controls this school. Student body forms when they are gambling and get the highest votes from all of the students which is becoming a Student President and can control anything inside the school.

Jabami Yumiko is a high school girl who is also clever on gambling but she hates when someone will cheat on the gamble game that she play. Will she climb to the top and beat all of the student body members? You can find out when you watch this anime.

    Divider_Hive_black_red.png

    Gamble at its finest

In order to settle things, to increase your influence at school, or to get the student a high advantage to become one of the student body leaders these students will play a game and gamble to the extent where a student will become worthless or become famous.

Some students gamble for the sake of the money, the more money that you have, the more students will target that student and most of the times risks their lives in order to get even from the game.

There are rules to set before they start to play a game. The players will agree with the game and not getting caught that the student is cheating. Any student can make their own game that they like and most of the time, the one who make the game is likely to win from the gamble game.

    Divider_Hive_black_red.png

    Characters are unique

I saw different anime and most of the characters only focus on one goal to become powerful, or to get one's attention just like a harem anime but this anime is different because each character have different goals in their mind just like Jabami Yumeko who only likes gambling nothing more nothing less. She doesn't like fame or to become one of the president of the school but she only got there just to play and to gamble to the students in the school.

Some characters like Ryota Suzui wants to get out from the pet life which is the lowest rank because he lost a lot of money by gambling to other students. Itsuki Sumeragi who only likes collecting real nails from the students that she gamble with.

Kirari Momobani who likes interesting students and become her ally, and others like to graduate because when you graduate from this school, the students are guaranteed to get hired from companies.

    Divider_Hive_black_red.png

Story is Getting intense in every episode

Yes, you heard it right, it's getting intense in every episode because of the game that they play and also how Jabami Yumeko twists the game even if Jabami knew that she was being cheated and ignored at first but at a later time, she will reveal it to her opponents in the game and makes them shiver that Jabami is a clever gambler.

    Divider_Hive_black_red.png

    Thoughts

All in all, the anime is one of the best that i've watched. For me, I like gambling in a sense that I enjoy watching people play and gamble because It's interesting for me to watch people and I will become thrilled on it.

The animation of this anime is also good which makes it more interesting to watch. There are no boring scenes from this anime and the characters play a vital role from the anime. If this isn't your taste for the genre of this anime, don't bother watching this.

Here is a short review that may contain some spoilers, not so much in terms of the script (which one? 😅) but rather its development with the characters.

An anime about gambling, in an Academy with rich kids, that is entirely based on how to edge lord every character for no reason , just because they are rich and corrupt and sick, but without going deep at all in this part socially or politically. From the beginning I wanted to see how it would turn out and if it would continue like this, and its over the top exaggeration in the fan serving psychopathy of the characters had me foreshadowing the course it would take. For as many characters as he wanted he gave a depth like 1 minute, so as not to leave us complaining that he didn't delve into anyone . The protagonist is probably the most uninteresting character I've ever seen in a series, and I didn't mind that he was bland for most of the series because if you build it well it can be a very interesting feature, after all we're not looking for flawless heroes . But honestly, whether it was there or not, it wouldn't change anything in the series, and that's problematic. On the other hand, ok, the interest in the games was based around PLOT WISTS, where I'm sure somewhere in between the creator just put on his buffs and was in a "I'LL GET SO MUCH PLOTTING" phase and the rest of his friends they agreed somewhere. Sorry, that's the level (I don't mean to offend anyone who drinks, obviously, it's just true that when you're drunk you get excited about the cleverness of things that are stupid, which has its own fun, UNLESS YOU'RE WRITING A SCREEN FOR KAKEGURUI). My point is, a 12-13 episode series relies on being interesting through characters who are all edge lords in their own way, because just like that, and supposedly clever gambling games, which in their own way, were incredibly predictable. I'm thinking how interesting this anime could be if it delved into the stink of this high class, like I said, socially, politically, the purpose for which this condition was created by playing extreme gambling in an Academy (it doesn't tell us when was this, apart from being something done for the sake of it? ), what political games could be behind it, and of course, if Yumeko - indeed a psychopathic and well-written character - transferred to the Academy to make them upside down for good. Of course, this ideal is in my own head.

So Kakegurui, one of the worst anime I've ever seen, I won't even get into the process of watching a second season.

  7. Gambling, Thrills and a Dose of Madness | Kakegurui Review [En/Es]@adalathu1089d

    1.jpg

Hello, my dear friki friends! Today I come to share with you my review of an anime that I just finished for the second time and that kept me hooked as if it was the first time. I'm talking about Kakegurui, a series that takes you into a dazzling and addictive world full of gambling and power. Get ready to delve into Hyakkaou Private Academy, where gambling is more than a pastime, it's the students' way of life.

    20230714_183609.gif

The story follows Yumeko Jabami, a transfer student who defies all the rules imposed by the Student Council, which has absolute control of the academy through a pet system. Here, if you lose large sums of money in bets (yes, they bet real money), you become a mascot, a mere servant of others. It is to this peculiar place that Yumeko arrives, with her mind set on the goal of winning and experiencing the thrill of risk and uncertainty. But her arrival unleashes a series of events that will shift the balance of power and challenge all the students' expectations.

One of Kakegurui's great strengths is its ability to create exaggerated and exciting situations in each episode. Each game of chance becomes an intellectual duel in which the characters display cunning and risky strategies that border on the ridiculous. The series plays with our emotions, keeping us in anticipation and not knowing what to expect next. Each bet is a roller coaster of emotions, with unexpected twists and turns that maintain suspense and intrigue throughout.

But don't think Kakegurui is all about gambling and betting. The series has a great touch of comedy that will make us laugh out loud on more than one occasion. The characters, in their eagerness to win and prove their superiority, become exaggerated and extravagant, producing hilarious and absurd situations that cross the line of the real and reach the irrational. The exaggerated reactions and comical facial expressions brought more than one smile to my face as I tried to keep up with the wit of the games.

    20230714_185241.gif

Another aspect I liked about Kakegurui is its animation, which is simply stunning. Every movement and every facial expression of the characters is carefully animated to bring out the intensity and quirkiness of the game. The vibrant colors and all its details make every scene visually stunning. The character designs are striking and unique, perfectly capturing the personalities and eccentricities of the protagonists. The animation is fluid and dynamic, adding to the excitement and tension in every gameplay.

I can't fail to mention the incredible soundtrack that accompanies Kakegurui. The openings of both seasons are great, their energetic rhythms and catchy melodies immerse us even more in the crazy world of the game. During the episodes the music becomes an essential part of the experience, increasing the adrenaline in each bet. The combination of animation and soundtrack creates a fascinating and extravagant atmosphere that completely envelops us.

This series not only excels in animation and music, it also has interesting character development. As the plot progresses, we discover deeper layers of the protagonists and explore their motivations and desires in greater depth. Each character has their own way of playing and dealing with challenges, which makes them interesting and complex. Yumeko, in particular, is a fascinating character, with dazzling intelligence and audacity. Her charisma, her impulsiveness to gamble and her ability to read her opponents make her a thoroughly entertaining protagonist.

    20230714_184317.gif

Kakegurui is an anime that brilliantly combines the thrill of gambling, hilarious comedy, high-quality animation and an evocative soundtrack. Each episode is an emotional journey full of twists and turns, with memorable characters and a plot that grabs us from the start. If you like the adrenaline rush of gambling, over-the-top humor and stunning animation, Kakegurui is a sure bet. I recommend you to enter this exciting world where destiny and life are gambled every day.

    Hello!

Kakegurui is a manga series written by Homura Kawamoto and illustrated by Tōru Naomura.

    Kakegurui-terceira-temporada-netflix-1130x580.jpg Ref: https://streamingsbrasil.com/kakegurui-3a-temporada-na-netflix-data-de-estreia-enredo-e-noticias/

The story takes place at Hyakkaou Private Academy, an elite high-class school that houses the children of the wealthiest and most influential people in Japan. However, the student hierarchy at this school is not determined by academic performance or athleticism, but rather by stakes.

Students are ranked by their monetary contributions submitted to the student council. Students who win, gain popularity, prestige and connections. The others, those who lose, go into debt and become slaves, "domestic animals". Pets that fail to pay off their debts by graduation are given a "Life Schedule", which dictates their future as they pay their debts with life.

Kakegurui was one of the promising series of summer 2017. The first impressions had been very exciting, full of intensity, suspense and presented an interesting idea, and it remained to be seen if the anime would maintain that quality. The good thing is that Kakegurui was able to maintain and fulfill that expectation.

Kakegurui (Compulsive Gambler) is a psychological, mystery and game series. The action takes place at Hyakkaou Private Academy. It is an institution only for privileged students, children of wealthy and influential families. But in this school, it is not important that the student is an excellent athlete or genius in mathematics or science. What matters in this academy is the student's ability to outperform his opponent in games of luck and chance. In this school, whoever wins the games is treated as king/queen. And those who lose are at the bottom of the school's social hierarchy, being treated like dirt. However, everything changes when student Yumeko Jabami enters Hyakkaou Private Academy.

This is not the first anime series to focus on gambling or gambling. But it is one of the few that has as its protagonist someone who likes the excitement brought on by the suspense and uncertainty of gambling. And who takes pleasure in pushing that excitement to the limit. Unlike the usual protagonist who is pushed against his will in this world of gambling and whose goal is not to give in to temptation and vice and get away from this universe.

Since the narrative is essentially focused on gambling and the bets that are made during these challenges, throughout the episodes we will have the opportunity to see everything that comes from gambling. Starting, of course, from the addiction it causes, to the debts that are accumulating, the failed attempts to recover what has been lost, the despair, the humiliation. But we will also see how games that are supposed to be based on luck or bad luck can be manipulated. This approach allows the series to allude to the corrupt side of society, even within the school itself, as can be seen in the opening episode, where those at the bottom of the social pyramid of academia try to climb the hierarchy by doing favors for the elites and manipulating games.

    3

Kakegurui is a series from the MAPPA studio, a name that has been gaining more and more strength and relevance in the Japanese animation universe. The animation of the anime is beautiful, giving close up looks and mouths, giving an even greater tension the stakes. The work has a beautiful character design, which several times squandered sensuality. The soundtrack is also great. And it follows well the key moments of the plot, in the most diverse and varied games that are presented to us in the course of the anime. In this new series of theirs, the studio does not disappoint. Kakegurui is mainly composed of scenes of great suspense. Even when sometimes the narrative is not enough to make those moments great, they end up being rescued by the animation and realization of the series. These two elements, explored in good harmony, have the ability to elevate the scene to a level that the plot alone was not achieving.

With a good proposal and a very interesting approach, Kakegurui can please not only anime fans, but someone who does not have so much contact with this content. On several occasions we are presented with real moments of tension and almost bordering on a psychological terror. As we follow some characters going to the limit (or passing it) in favor of the desire and addiction of the games. Kakegurui is a good anime bet, literally speaking.

Hello, human beings! Today I come back and talk to you about anime. During the two weeks that I was not publishing, I had an anime marathon that I wanted to see and I had not had time, among the many I saw, one of them was Kakegurui, I liked it a lot, so I will tell you a little bit about it, so, here I go.

This anime of drama and mystery places us in the Hyakkaou Academy, where the children of all the elite families are studying, but above all, gambling. The student council, as well as the rest of the situations that arise at the Academy are resolved by gambling, without taking into consideration the consequences of their actions.

¡Hola, seres vivos!

Our protagonist is Yumeko Jabami, a student who has just transferred to the second year, and since the first day she begins to demonstrate what can be called addiction, compulsion, skill and intensity with which she loves games, for which she practically lives.

Jabami has too many particularities and I could never list them all. She not only loves games, nor playing them, but she loves all the possibilities of the results of the games, she hates games that are fixed and she knows easily who is going to win and who is going to lose, she plays because she knows she can win or lose no matter what, she plays compulsively, she doesn't care about money, her life, or the destiny of her existence at the moment of betting.

    Picture1.png

One of the many peculiarities that Kakegurui has is the physical transformation of the characters during the bets, their true selves are revealed and the features of the faces have a grotesque and vulgar transformation suitable for what they are doing: compulsive gambling. The color of the eyes changes and stands out, the tears become exaggerated and the saliva comes out in uncontrollable piles.

I loved each one of the transformations in their gambling demons, during the whole game they may be playing normally, but when they reach the climax of the moment, of knowing who wins and loses, they all end up becoming demons, gods or simple mortals who cannot stand an existence full of gambling.

    Picture2.png

    Picture1.png

    2

    Picture1.png

With the arrival of Yumeko Jabami, the student council made up of the best student gamblers in the academy is cornered and forced to try and stop her with a number of games and situations that put the life, health or destiny of all those who play at risk.

The games are evolving as the series progresses, from simple poker games, blackjack, to become inventions of the characters, like a guillotine where they can lose a finger, get shot, or have to throw themselves from the fifth floor of a building, and those are not the worst, because despite dying, if someone comes to lose his entire existence can pass into the hands of the other person and decide everything he will do in his life from that moment, practically becomes his slave.

    Picture2.png

    Picture1.png

Even though I liked it very much, and it explores parts of the human being such as addictions, in this case towards games, the story takes a little while to evolve and take its next step, it becomes monotonous during many chapters, no matter that the games and the situations in which Jabami is placed are more and more insane and dangerous, but the same pattern is repeated for a long time making it possible to lose interest in continuing it. I finished it and I loved it very much.

I recommend them if you want to hang out and not get too stressed out looking for what to see, it's not relaxed, it's very stressful, but easy to see, if you decide to do it you're not going to regret it, it's an anime that can be considered more of the bunch, but that's why it's still good. The amount of different characters, the evolution of them through the chapters, and how Jabami remains herself no matter what she has to go through, makes Kakegurui a masterpiece.

    Picture2.png

  14. Kakegurui - Uncontrolled Gambling / Apuestas Sin Control@kuronokenshi2065d

    image.png Source

There are many school animals to see and they will always keep coming out more because in the end it is a quite common genre in anime but in the same way many are very good to see and some seek to make their story not as common as the great majority of comedies or romantic dramas that use this genre. An example of this and that I liked very much personally the theme they chose is Kakegurui, a story where high level bets with extravagant consequences are combined with the life of the protagonists in a high school controlled by the same bets. I will try to give a concrete explanation about it but in the same way avoiding the Spoilers so that if someone decides to watch it the anime is not ruined.

    image.png Source

The premise of this anime is simple, it is about a school where bets are the main and most essential thing in it, the better you are betting and winning the better your life will be in the school and the more reputation you will have but if on the contrary you are bad in the bets or you will owe a lot of money you will have a very bad time because there is a list of all the students based on their betting skills and favorable balance, If a student makes it into the top 100 because of gambling debt, they will be required to wear a collar with a long chain around their neck identifying them as a "pet" and must comply with the orders of any other student who is not a pet.

    image.png Source

In the first episode Yumeko Jabami arrives at the institute as a new student. She is a black haired girl with a very interesting attitude and a great obsession for betting because from the first day she asks Suzui, the boy who shows her the institute, to take her to where they make the bets and she begins to bet at a high level and is very good at it because she manages to win almost always and in any type of bets, as well as the fact of having a lot of money and this allows her to raise the bets to a surprising level at all times. From that moment on, Yumeko and Suzui become friends and this will help her in her obsession of playing bets every time as well as with her goal of betting against the best and those who have the control of the institute who are the members of the student council. The bets against the council members are at a much higher level than those made by ordinary students and in fact if they owe a lot of money to the council they make a life plan for the student as payment, where if she does not manage to pay them all her life will be planned and controlled by them and she will decide who she will marry, what she will work for and everything.

    image.png Source

The bets can be some of the most extravagant that you can imagine, from having to play Russian roulette if you lose in guessing some cards to bet in a kind of guillotine for fingers in who will be the last one to remove the finger, even in one of the bets between the members of the student council the bet was to take out an eye to show it to the winner and so it was done. In the second season we see how the members of the different families of the Bami clan arrive at the academy and begin a series of uncontrolled bets to take control of the student council and they become more and more interesting and mysterious.

    image.png Source

I found this anime very funny and interesting to watch, more because of the variety of the bets and Jabami's attitude towards them that to say little could be called something peculiar, it is also striking how she resolves them and how she has a great capacity to analyze and think about all possible variables, although in the same way in some cases she simply leaves everything to chance and plays without thinking and as expected for the protagonist it turns out well. Personally I can recommend this anime because I found it very good, as an additional fact I discovered that Kakegurui for some reason has a Live Action adaptation made in Japan and as expected is very bad. Seriously, who would think of doing Live Action on anime and think that it will work (do not remember the Live Action of Dragon Ball please ... it was horrible to see it at the time).

  15. Kakegurui Season 2 is Here (Review)@filotasriza32728d

The new anime season is here for good and i couldn't just continue with my everyday life schedule without checking on it. Turns out we have some new and interesting anime this year as well as new seasons for existing known ones. Today i am gonna talk and review Kakegurui's second season!

    General info

The first season of Kakegurui had 12 episodes and the studio behind it was the known Studio MAPPA. Exactly the same thing will apply for the second season, both keeping the same studio and having a total of 12 episodes. The genres of this anime are Game, Mystery, Psychological, Drama,School and Shounen

    Plot

The plot of season 1 is that there is School different from the other ones, in which mostly rich kids are attending. The school is suppose to prepare them from the reality out there and that's why we can divide it in 2 major teaching curriculums (curricula?). The first one is the everyday subjects like in every school and the second one which takes place after the first one comes to an end is the Gambling Den!

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cTlHQiRNVl0

    season 1 trailer

In the Gambling Den students use actual money to Gamble, or other things they have and they can even bet their own life in a way, thus becoming something like slaves to the winners. The whole thing is suppose to give them the knowledge of money, how to use them and ofc how to manipulate others in order to achieve whatever they want. To oversee all this there is a council of students who are the best ones regarding manipulation and gambling.

One day a new and beautiful girl named Yumeko Jabami enters the school and soon many students try to take her money via gambling and generally make her a slave. Yumeko though not only beats them but apparently she is a bit crazy and she likes to gamble a lot. She doesn't gamble for money, just for the thrill of it.

    Plot Of Season 2

In season 2 the President of the Council Kirari Momobami who i bet is a psycho in par with Jabami calls representatives of her family (think of it like a major clan, with sub-clans inside) and issue a new type of gambling in which the winner becomes President and rules over the school and ofc the world as she/he will have every rich students under her/his palm. As you can imagine we gonna see some crazy gambling games once again with Jabami leading the way!

    What's Good About The Anime

To begin with i don't this anime is something for the average viewer or someone who wanna watch his/her first anime. In a way it will feel a bit weird to them and a bit "WTF am i watching now" so my advice is to have spent a little bit of time watching anime and not only the most known ones.

Having said that, the anime is awesome, the whole story is a bit unique and the characters are amazing. Note that when we are talking about gambling it can be anything, not only the games you see in Casino. Also, note that we are talking about an anime, something that means if gambling games sound or seem crazy, multiply that craziness x 1000 and there you have it! The most amazing thing though is the reactions and expressions the Characters show, which are extremely intense either that is craziness, fear or excitement!

You can watch Season 1 on Netflix too!

  16. Kakegurui Season 2 Episode 3 English Subbed@kissanime2731d

Watch Kakegurui XX Episode 3 English Subbed streaming

Unlike many schools, attending Hyakkaou Private Academy prepares students for their time in the real world. Since many of the students are the children of the richest people in the world, the academy has its quirks that separate it from all the others. By day, it is a normal school, educating its pupils in history, languages, and the like. But at night, it turns into a gambling den, educating them in the art of dealing with money and manipulating people. Money is power; those who come out on top in the games stand at the top of the school.

Yumeko Jabami, a seemingly naive and beautiful transfer student, is ready to try her hand at Hyakkaou's special curriculum. Unlike the rest, she doesn't play to win, but for the thrill of the gamble, and her borderline insane way of gambling might just bring too many new cards to the table.

    OPINION

Kakegurui seemed to me an interesting anime since I started it until I finished it, a short anime of 12 episodes and that is expected another season, I love how the characters are shown with so much lust and desire to win or desperation when they are about to lose, as you feel that tension and despair of the characters, without saying that the opening is fantastic, I hope for the second installment of this anime, which I hope will leave you as desirous of more as me.

  23. Netflixing: Kakegurui@talanhorne3024d

    Disappointing.

It is always disappointing to encounter a show with so much potential, only to have it squandered through pandering to the lowest common denominator.

But before we make a full evaluation, let's review the facts.

It's Like Hogwarts, if Hogwarts was a Casino

    Ah, the magical school trope.

It's often overused, but in the right hands it can make for a compelling story. Whether you're learning to become a wizard at Hogwarts, training as a demon hunter at True Cross Academy, or even honing your ninja skills in Konoha, magical schools are a great way to live out your power fantasies.

And they don't even have to be magical. Some "magical schools" are more scientific in nature, such as in Ender's Game or other popular stories.

Or, sometimes, they're all about gambling.

    Seriously.

Kakegurui is about a fictional high school in Japan where the students are high stakes gamblers, and their entire lives revolve around games of chance and skill. The best students can achieve riches beyond their wildest dreams, but a terrible retribution awaits those who lose.

    The Story

One day, a new girl named Yumeko arrives at Hyakkou Academy, where all students are beholden to a strict hierarchy depending on their gambling skills.

Since Yumeko is a compulsive gambler who enjoys losing just as much as winning, she immediately upsets the social order, taking on all comers and racking up a surprising number of wins.

Her winning strategy comes from her irrational behavior. The top-tier gamblers at the school have attained their position by learning to anticipate their opponents, but Yumeko's actions cannot be anticipated, as she often acts against her immediate interests.

But she inevitably draws the attention of the student council, which at this school is an Illuminati-esque cabal of power players who secretly control all aspects of the students' lives.

At Hyakkou Academy, any student who gambles themselves into debt are thereafter designated "class pets", and are treated as beasts of burden who must perform any chore required of them by the "human" students.

As Yumeko craves greater and greater risks, she will face off against each member of the student council and raise the stakes to billions of yen, all in her quest to battle the student council president in a game with the greatest imaginable risk.

    Character Dynamics

One noticeable flaw of this series is the way other characters are shoved aside in favor of Yumeko.

Granted, some of this is just a natural consequence. Yumeko's personality is so imposing that it kind of squashes everyone all comers---which is in keeping with her storyline of overpowering the powerful.

But because of this, the other characters are largely forgettable, especially the other sympathetic heroes, such as Ryota, who functions as the audience's viewpoint. After Yumeko rescues him from being a class pet, he follows her around like a little lost puppy (ironic, isn't it?).

And while Ryota does have an arc, it is an arc that, like the curvature of the Earth, is barely registered to the viewer's eyes.

Other support characters, such as Mary and (later) Itsuki, are even more forgettable.

Yumeko's opponents, however, tend to leave a more permanent impression. The student council is made up of the kind of rogues' gallery you would expect to find in a shounen anime. Each one has their own special skills and poses a unique threat. It is a genuine treat to see each one of them taken down.

But then There's the Panda Ring

Every now and then, Kakegurui takes time away from being a legitimately interesting show to do something shallow and stupid.

I am talking about the way the show tries to pander sexually implicit imagery to the viewer.

In the show's opening and closing sequences, as well as in several episodes, the animators pose the academy's schoolgirls in highly flattering positions.

Any follower of this blog knows that I am not fond of this kind of pandering. And it is even more infuriating in Kakegurui because it has literally no reason to be there. None of the show's storylines are at all sexual. The characters never actually have sex or even get involved with each other. Kakegurui is a series without romantic subplots (an astonishing rarity), yet it wastes the viewer's time with implicit sexual posturing that serves no purpose whatsoever, other than to use as a marketing gimmick.

I am not fond of fetishising characters, but if you must do it then at least make it relevant to the plot!

This is, by far, the biggest strike against the series. And if these shots were subtracted from the runtime, the show would be better off for it.

    One Redeeming Quality: the Games

There is, however, one area where Kakegurui lets its creative chutzpah shine, and that is in the gambling itself.

The show is not content to merely use existing games from the real world. At Hyakkou Academy, gambling is a way of life, and one way students show their chops is to invent new games with which to challenge each other.

The series introduces a host of made-up games, all of which could be played in real life. Many of them are fresh takes on old favorites, such as poker, concentration, or, in one extreme case, Russian roulette.

That the show puts so much creativity into inventing new forms of gambling demonstrates that it was written by a great intellect. To have that intellectual appeal interrupted so often by pandering is my primary gripe with the series.

    My Judgment

    Disappointing.

Under different circumstances, Kakegurui could have become one of my top five animes. That it wastes so much potential is reason enough to keep me from watching it again.

Yet the drama, intellect, and high stakes of the shows story are certainly attention grabbing. They would also be worthy of emulation for those wishing to write a story about the insane world of high-stakes gambling.

It is on Netflix right now, if you can stomach it. Otherwise, you may just want to fold, cash in your chips, and go home.

  39. Anime review: Kakegurui@thatanimesnob3127d

So, there’s this gambling den where people risk their future. Money is power in capitalism and the more you have the more powerful you become. Ok, it makes sense so far.

And then it stops making sense because the gambling den is a freaking high school, where the only thing that is not going on in there is learning. Everybody is acting like a horny lunatic and wants us to accept the educational system is fine with letting its young people become unstable gambling addicts.

The status quo is broken by a transfer student, of course, since that is the only reason to have high schools in modern anime. Instead of having to be creative, you just let the plot write itself by following the exact same formula every single time.

So, they gamble and the first game they play is a rehash from Kaiji, only with no strategy since there is no way to know how many cards of each type there are. Which means it’s all random bullshit. They try to make it sound like there are tactics because everyone is cheating, but it comes down to dumb luck and the horny protagonist finding a wau yo solve everything. Just because!

As much as the theme tries to be an allegory to the materialism of modern life, it fails to prove it by saying it all comes down to a lucky draw. Furthermore, for a gambling series, there is no actual tension, since the only thing that is at stake is money. Fortunes come and go in every episode, and although that seems to be ruining the lives of those who become broke, we never see the effects of it, besides becoming an errand boy for horny bitches in a high school. Woah, what a dreadful life it is to not have money, yet still going to a prestige school and doing a few chores for horny bitches who are probably having sex with you eventually.

If that wasn’t enough, the main girl in the show is so ridiculously rich to the point she doesn’t care how much money she wins or loses, therefore she is not really risking anything. Her objective has nothing to do with making money or making sure you are not going to lose them. The premise is betrayed almost immediately, since everybody gambles because they are addicted to gambling, and not because they risk everything for a better life, like in Kaiji.

The series is eventually fairly one-note. There is not variety in personalities, since everybody is the same closet psychopath. The games differ but play out with the exact same structure without connecting with one another, thus there is not much of a plot. There is not even much of a worthwhile objective. Every character is self-destructive, and has no long-term plans other than cumming in his underwear while gambling. It gets tiresome and cringy very fast.

Many try to defend the show as a psychological thriller and a character study, by making it sound like it’s all about the effects of gambling on rich people, as well as how the whole thing is a social experiment aiming to create a new breed of super humans. There is some of that present but it’s overshadowed by the constant ahegao faces everyone is making while playing these random games. It’s almost entirely a shitty ecchi series about people getting orgasms while gambling and the animation makes sure to point that out every 10 seconds. It’s sleazy fetishism with little to no substance, and those claiming it’s more than that, do it for the sole purpose of making it sound like the deviant crap they are watching are intellectual masterpieces.

Rewatch Kaiji and don’t even bother with this one.
