  1. Legally Blonde - Opening Cine TV's Love Month@cinetv510d

It’s the month of February, which I personally find amusing because of the singular theme flying around and how it just soaks up the month in its entirety – Love. However, the Cine TV community will not be left out as there would be nearly an overdose of brilliant love-themed movies. Nearly. We’re starting this month with a production that is not entirely love-themed but one I happened to see last night after seeing it previously more than a decade ago.

    Legally Blonde (2001)

Elle Woods is a Fashion Merchandise major and a sorority sister. She’s dating Warner Huntington III and is expecting him to propose to her the night he takes her on a local restaurant date. Much to her disbelief, Warner ends up breaking up with her, stating categorically that with his aspirations of becoming senator, Elle lacks the seriousness needed for that kind of life. Elle reasons that if she achieves the things Warner is also achieving, he will find her worthy enough. She studies for months and gets 179 on her LSATs. Coupled with her CGPA of 4.0, she gets admitted into Havard Law School.

She immediately learns that her Law student contemporaries are quite different from her and she may just be a fish out of water in her new environment and to her spiteful East Coast contemporaries. With Warner now engaged to Vivian Kensington and still looking down on her even though she got into Law School, Elle realizes that she must prove herself against all odds.

Yeah, as you may have realized even from the summary, this film is as sexist as they come, and frankly quite annoying. But I was able to cut it some slack because it’s 2001 and we were still in that era where scriptwriters and Directors could get away with that kind of stuff. Yeah, the entire movie was dedicated to proving to a guy that if she got serious, maybe he would want her. The ending didn’t help matters giving the women happy endings that revolved around being proposed to and getting married. But I still cut it some slack because why not? That was then, right?

I did learn something from Legally Blonde, contrary to what most people may be thinking, and that is Confidence. Elle was unapologetically confident. I mean showing up to your Law school party in a pink-bunny costume (that has a fluffy tail) while others are wearing corporate, and still standing tall doesn’t seem possible to me at all, at least not by me. So, I loved her ability to remain seemingly oblivious to spiteful words and gossip as soon as she entered a room. Which is what I feel everyone should learn.

I’m not exactly a fan of Reese Witherspoon’s acting. When she was younger and even now when she’s older. I’m not sure why but that has always been the case, but she did deliver this rather bleak plot as impeccably as possible, and for that, she has her flowers. As I said in the beginning, this is not a love-themed film, rather it is one to open the floodgates to good ones that we’ve seen over the years. So, film suggestions that you may want us to talk about are welcome in the comments. Have a lovely February!

  2. Film Review: Legally Blonde (2001)@drax1053d

    (source: tmdb.org)

When Amanda Brown enrolled into Stanford Law School in 1993, she probably didn’t envision that it would lead to one of the more successful Hollywood comedies of early 2000s. She never graduated, but her stay at the campus wasn’t for naught; her observations about student life and interactions with her classmates were extensively described in letters to her parents. Those letters became basis for her 2001 novel Legally Blonde, which, in turn, became basis for eponymous film directed by Robert Luketic.

Protagonist, played by Reese Witherspoon, is Elle Woods, college student who seems to have anything California girl should have – status of the most popular girl on campus, chairmanship of prestigious sorority and reputation of ultimate arbiter what is “cool” and what is not when it comes to fashion, makeup and hairstyles. Her world comes crushing down after her long time boyfriend Warren Huntigton III (played by Matthew Davis), instead of formally proposing her, tells that he intends to follow family tradition and pursue political career. Elle, on the account of being blonde, is considered to be “shallow” and bad for his image, so he intends to marry Vivian Kensigton (played by Selma Blair), brunette from “proper” aristocratic family. Elle is deeply hurt but also convinced that he could prove Warren wrong by following him to prestigious Harvard Law School. She manages to apply and be accepted there, but it soon turns out that her Southern Californian mores are at odds with traditional East Coast values, so few people take her seriously. However, after some time, it turns that under the cover of “ditzy” blonde lies true legal talent, which is recognised even by Professor Callahan (played by Victor Garber) who hires her as an intern in his law firm during high-profile criminal case.

Legally Blonde doesn’t offer anything new, at least to those who have seen even the small number of Hollywood films before. Almost all creativity seems to be spent on “high concept” premise, which is followed by the usual set of cliches and predictable plot, which includes heroine finding her Mr. Right and spectacular courtroom finale. On the other hand, the film nevertheless manages to show just enough charm and wit to make the watching enjoyable. Script by Karen McCullah Lutz and Kirsten Smith occasionally provides mild satirical commentary on young American women’s obsession with their looks. But the more impressive is the work of cast, enthusiastically handled by Australian director Robert Luketic in his first feature film. This includes supporting cast with younger actresses like Jennifer Cauffiel and Selma Blair being aided by veterans like Jennifer Coolidge and Holland Taylor. Ultimately, film rests on the shoulders of Reese Witherspoon, who, shortly after shining as Tracy Flick in Election proves to be one of the most formidable comediennes of her generation. With her combination of vulnerability, charm, intelligence and sex appeal she makes this feather-light comedy much more pleasant experience than its worn out premise might indicate. Legally Blonde was successful at the box office and followed by predictably inferior 2003 sequel Legally Blonde 2: Red, White and Blue and 2009 direct-to-video spin off Legally Blondes.

"I changed my mind. I'll take a chance because I'm not afraid of a challenge."

Society pigeonholes human beings from birth. It is in charge of putting paradigms, taboos and fears into our heads. Together with the parents, they command the troop that ends our lives. The one who dares to go out of the lane is the black sheep of the family and misconduct. It is a sin to be different, but still some dare. Most of the time we go on like this all our lives, but a big blow can knock us down and suddenly we say, "Wow, in some cases, it can happen that the big blow opens our eyes and we begin to see other things.

We begin to desire to be someone else, the fibers of our being are moved, we finally emerge what we really are and what was hidden. Then, we decide to change and give a new turn to our life. However, it is difficult to start because society continues to restrict our actions. Criticism, sarcastic expressions and comments begin. I know stories of people who started over and succeeded, despite the toxic and manipulative people. Also from the family, who are the first ones to try to limit dreams.

Believe it or not, if it is a woman, the situation is much more delicate. Society always lashes out against her. Ever since the world has existed, women have not been able to get out of the lane imposed by family, parents and society. Opening her eyes brings consequences to the woman, and if it is for love, the situation is much more complicated. For love we are able to leave everything aside and follow the person we love. In the film "Legally Blonde" the friend Elle changes her world to go after a love.

On her way there are many obstacles, but she manages to find herself and decide what really makes sense to her. She puts all her efforts into proving that she could get a degree. She exchanges her Martini for law books. She met good people but also bad ones. She understood that the good ones are more. Her family and friends advised her to go back home. Some classmates and teachers told her that she was wasting her time and that this was not her place. Society did its best to divert her from her purpose.

She was on the verge of falling, however, the person she least expected helped her to continue, giving her words of encouragement. In this film it is evident that in the most difficult moments we always need someone to lend us a hand; a pat, a smile and a word of encouragement can lift a wounded soul that doesn't want to go on. In this film, several of society's stereotypes are evident, the most outstanding being the one that refers to women with blonde hair.

Being a woman is a source of pride, and Elle proves it. At some point she tries to be like the others, but realizes that this is not her essence or her style. She goes back to wearing her mini skirts, to using the pink color and perfume she likes. All these elements give joy, passion and power to her character.

We women have to show what we are made of, we are not afraid of anything and we take on challenges. This does not depend on social class or hair color, why should a blonde girl who likes pink be silly and shallow? This is an outdated stereotype and makes no sense from any point of view. My friend Elle proves that she is intelligent and that only with studies can you get things done. Bravo, for her, since she had the courage and from there she managed to achieve her dreams.

There is nothing wrong with women being sensitive, crying, dressing well and wearing make-up. Besides, neither the color of their hair or skin, nor the fact that they like the color pink will influence their work or professional life. Elle showed that if you want something and take risks and adversity you can achieve your goals and life projects. I was fascinated by this film. I like romantic comedies where love prevails and the good guys always come out on top, this allows me to believe in life and in human beings.

I have seen this movie several times. I always laugh out loud at Elle's witticisms. Also of her frustrations, but she manages to make herself respected with her attitude. She keeps her essence and doesn't let anything stop her from achieving her goal. There comes a moment when she feels she can't, but she gets up and continues, and at the end she exclaims:

    "We did it!" (Blonde Legal).

It is a motivational film, showing that when we dream and work for our dreams, we are more likely to achieve them. It was directed by Australian Robert Luketic. I like actress Reese Witherspoon, she is very likable and charismatic. On the contrary, Emmett is a bit dull and doesn't fit with her or with soldimix, as we Venezuelans say. But that's how love is and as Tío Simón said: "When it comes like this, you don't even realize it". I invite you to enjoy this film and meet Bruiser, Paulette and Professor Stromwell.

If we want to succeed and achieve our goals, we must bet on ourselves and show what we are capable of. Only with hard work and determination can we achieve our dreams and goals. If we fall, we get up and continue on our way. Let go of your fears of failure and what people will say. Go ahead and enjoy the road. As we Venezuelans of my time say: "don't stop b... to anyone", let them continue criticizing, cover your ears and pa Lante. Always with your mind and heart set on your goals.

Friends of the #Movies&Shows Community, let's leave aside the stereotypes imposed by society and inculcated since childhood. Let's not be selfish, let's live and let others live.

He visto esta película varias veces.

Hello dear Hiveblog community, I hope you are doing well. Today I want to talk to you about an old movie that you watch because of nostalgia or in cases like me because I have a bad memory and despite having seen it several years ago I don't remember what it's about and I'm talking about "Legally Blonde" a comedy that teaches us that intelligence and beauty can go hand in hand.

The story is about Elle a blonde who is very much in love with her boyfriend Warner but he breaks up with her to start studying law at Harvard, so she decides to study law to get back with him at the same university, can she? Will she realize that law is her passion?

I met Elle Woods in "Ojala fuera cierto" and I really liked her performance and what the story was about, I really enjoyed watching movies from this era (2000-2010) I think they are funny but they have a certain something that leaves you stuck and you don't get bored, things that movies nowadays almost never get 🥺 legally blonde that movie that is taken and not taken seriously, the truth is I started without having much faith in Elle but in the end they end up teaching me a lesson too.

    PicsArt_01-16-10.11.13.jpgFuente

    IMG_20230116_093931.jpg

The characters are not very complex, the truth is that we don't see the story of almost anyone besides Ellen's, only Paulette's, who even though she looks older, never knew how to give an act to her abusive ex-husband and also didn't know how to express her feelings, Elle became a kind of guardian angel for her, as I said at the beginning I didn't have much faith in the blonde because her main motivation was her boyfriend and it made me wonder if she was so smart to get into Harvard but not so smart to realize that she wasn't worth it.

Anyway, I spent half an hour waiting for a breakthrough and she gets it. She decides to study and we see how her passion for law and study takes shape. So much so that it is not very believable but very motivating, of those that we can see of law is called my attention and especially when it comes to the crime in which Elle is involved and it is surprising how she is facing it as a student but most of all as a future lawyer and person.

I think this movie is funny and healthy, it shows us a woman who is discriminated for being blonde (they only take her as a pretty face and dumb as they show us at the beginning) and she herself believed it until she realizes that she is more than that, I like the way they also show how her friendship with Vivian develops and they do not fall into that of fighting with a man, also her love interest seemed very healthy and it is also a plus other issues such as the harassment that a woman can suffer.

    PicsArt_01-16-11.10.06.jpgFuente

    IMG_20230116_093931.jpg

I really liked the ending and I was moved by the trial even though it's a very silly one? I don't know how to explain it but it is a very peculiar trial so to speak and how she defends it. I stay very much in the moral she leaves and that is to be ourselves and in any area of our lives despite not fitting in the normal standards on the other hand "Passion is the key in study" as she says in her speech and "We must have faith in people and most importantly, faith in ourselves". I give it a 9/10 because without I have a weakness for comedies like this 🥺.

Hi dear Hivers, I hope you are doing very well ✨💕!

A few days ago I saw a tik tok of a girl who talked about the canons of beauty and stereotypes that exist around women, and referred to how the girls who fit the model of "beauty" that society in general has, had to fight against the comments that minimized their professional success under the phrase "she is only there because she is pretty", and with this I just remembered this film that I will talk about today, because in general terms this is the message that this story seeks to convey, "beautiful women are much more than this".

The story revolves around Elle Woods a Californian girl who seems to have it all and is just waiting for her boyfriend to finally ask her to marry him, however he decides to do something completely different and break up with her and go to Harvard Law School, so in search of his great love Elle also decides to enroll and attend Harvard Law School.

Elle's character is undoubtedly one of my favourites over many films, not only because I love the actress, but also because of her story and evolution throughout the film, in fact on many occasions I have felt totally identified with her, from the beginning Elle sets a goal and firmly goes after it, And although in the course of the story her objective changes this happens because she understands that her path was not oriented towards where she really should go, and again her firmness leads her to reach the goal, and it is precisely this tenacity what makes this character so memorable for me, apart from all the stereotypes that her story breaks.

I personally believe and feel that Elle's story is one of empowerment, she is a woman who met certain standards of beauty and for this reason was underestimated and intellectually undervalued, but who understood that being blonde and pretty did not define her or make her less intelligent or less capable of facing her professional career, and the decision she makes to demonstrate and prove to herself that she is fully capable of being an excellent lawyer, is what I consider an example of empowerment, and she never let her essence get lost, she started out as a California strawberry blonde and ended up being a California strawberry blonde, because that made her proud and represented her most authentic self, and that shows how well constructed this story was.

Although it is one of my favourite films, it cannot be denied that it has certain flaws, the first is perhaps that it focuses too much on Elle, although she is the protagonist and the story is about her, I feel that I missed some characters that I would have liked to know a little more, such is the case of Vivian of whom practically nothing is said and whose function is first to be Warner's girlfriend and Elle's enemy, to later become her maximum ally, a turn that in my opinion is given very abruptly. Another character that I feel that I was left wanting for a story was Emmett, who appears in exact and opportune moments but of whom we don't really know much, beyond the fact that he is an excellent lawyer who is starting his career and who from the beginning has a crush on Elle, I really think it was a character that could have been explored better, especially considering that he ends up being the love interest of the protagonist.

Truly this film has a place in my heart, it is quite consistent in terms of the message it seeks to convey and that pleases me a lot, like any story has its small flaws, but these did not affect the success of the film, so much so that today it is still remembered with great affection by a good part of the people who have seen it. I emphasize that I will not talk about the second film because I personally did not like it, so I will stay only with this one 😉.

Based on the book of the same name written by Amanda Brown, it tells the story of Elle Woods (played by Reese Witherspoon), an exemplary design and tailoring student who is very popular and has enjoyed a good life. When her boyfriend breaks up with her, determined to move on and show him how serious she is about her, she decides to enroll in Harvard Law School.

The character of Elle Woods became a feminist icon, she teaches us as women to never give up, to fight for what we want and not to be dependent on anyone. She broke stereotypes too because blondes are always thought to be dumb and although Elle apparently is, she proves to be just the opposite. Reese Witherspoon's performance is masterful, she gives it a twist to make it attractive and ridiculous at the same time.

At first Elle was mistreated at the University, especially by the teacher Stromwell (played by Holland Taylor) and a student who turns out to be her ex-boyfriend's fiancée named Vivian Kesington (played by Selma Blair). Realizing that her ex-boyfriend Warner would never get back together with her, Elle decides to dedicate herself fully to her studies. She stands out more and more from her studies so a law firm selects her along with Warner, Vivian and Enid to defend a murder case. They have to defend Brooke Taylor Windham (played by Ali Larter) as she was accused of shooting her husband of 60 years old.

Both the daughter and the first wife of the victim accuse Brooke of having killed him, and also allege that she has a relationship with a man named Enrique Salvatore which is later revealed to be false. One scene that I really liked was when Elle deduces that Enrique Salvatore really is gay due to a comment he made about his shoes and although Professor Callahan doesn't believe him, his partner Emmett does trust Elle and manages to get Enrique Salvatore to confess that he has boyfriend.

Thanks to this, Chutney, the victim's daughter, is questioned and finally taken into custody and Brooke is declared innocent, winning the case. Thanks to this, Warner realizes how much Elle is really worth and decides to propose to her, a proposal that she rejects since she didn't want a "stupid husband". Two years later, Elle graduates as a lawyer and receives a job offer from a major Boston law firm while Warner graduates with no girlfriend and no job offers. Vivian and Ellie become best friends, Elle maintains a romantic relationship with Emmett too.

I didn't like at all that Elle was initially underestimated and also mistreated at the University, since students at a university are supposed to be "mature and serious". And what I liked the most is that Elle has shown all those people who did not believe in her her ability to succeed, also her self-confidence and I loved her speech at graduation, where she says that you have to trust others . The character that I hated the most is from Warner, who for me is a tremendous lout.

I liked the work of the actors a lot, they made this movie very entertaining which I never get tired of watching, although as I said before my favorite character is the one played by Reese Witherspoon, she is one of my favorite actresses and I like the way she the one that played Elle, a character with an important message.

Although it is a simple comedy movie, it is important to see it since it leaves many lessons, it teaches us to never lose our essence as a person and never give up to achieve our goals. It tells us that we have the power to do anything, you just have to have confidence in yourself. I recommend it especially to today's women, it's a ridiculously incredible and funny movie.
