Today I come to recommend you a series that I found on Netflix by chance, actually I was looking for a horror movie because I love that genre, and suddenly I got Marianne, I started watching it thinking it was a movie and seeing that it ended very soon and inconclusively I realized that it was fragmented into episodes, so I kept watching it because the plot left me completely hooked 😃.
Hoy vengo a recomendarles una serie que encontré en Netflix por casualidad, en realidad yo estaba buscando una película de terror porque me encanta ese género, y de pronto conseguí Marianne, comencé a verla pensando que era una película y al ver que terminó muy pronto y de forma inconcluso me di cuenta que estaba fragmentada en episodios, así que seguí viéndola porque la trama me dejó completamente enganchada 😃.
Overview/Resumen
Marianne is a witch who many years ago, in the seventeenth century, was executed by the church, some time later she returned when a group of rebellious teenagers invoked her through the Ouija, since then she began to harass and torment one of them, Emma, especially in her dreams, on the advice of the village priest, Emma decides to leave, then begins to write what she sees in her dreams, creating a novel, inventing a protagonist (Lizzie) who is a kind of heroine capable of confronting the demonic entity, and this was the only way in which Marianne stopped manifesting in real life. However, years later, when Emma becomes rich and famous after the success of her saga of novels, she decides that she will no longer continue writing about it, but one of her friends tells her that she must do so since the entity has returned and seems to have taken over her mother, so after seeing that the girl committed suicide under Marianne's characteristic motto (I never leave without anything) Emma decides that she has to return to Elden, the town where it all started, to try to get rid of Marianne once and for all.
Marianne es una bruja que hace muchos años, en el siglo XVII, fue ejecutada por la iglesia, tiempo después regresó cuando un grupo de adolescentes rebeldes la invocaron a través de la Ouija, desde entonces comenzó a acosar y atormentar a una de ellos, Emma, sobre todo en sus sueños, por consejo del sacerdote del pueblo, Emma decide marcharse, luego comienza a escribir lo que ve en sus sueños, creando una novela, inventando a una protagonista (Lizzie) quien es una especie de heroína capaz de enfrentarse a la entidad demoniaca, y esta fue la única forma en la que Marianne dejó de manifestarse en la vida real. No obstante, años después, cuando Emma se vuelve rica y famosa tras el éxito de su saga de novelas, decide que ya no continuará escribiendo sobre eso, pero una de sus amiga le dice que debe hacerlo ya que la entidad ha regresado y parece haberse apoderado de su madre, así que tras ver que la chica se suicidó bajó el lema característico de Marianne (Nunca me voy sin nada) Emma decide que tiene que regresar a Elden, el pueblo donde todo comenzó, para tratar de deshacerse de Marianne de una vez por todas.

My Opinion/Mi Opinión
One of the best qualities of this series, and is what I appreciate the most as a lover of the genre, the handling of terror, seriously is very successful, I will not deny that sometimes it is a little predictable, but not most of the time. I want you to watch the scene I'm going to leave you below because it is a clear example of what I'm telling you, the director knows very well how to prolong the tension in this scene. Without showing the character on screen we know the danger is there, we can hear Marianne calling Emma with that raspy voice 😰, we can perceive her crawling around 😨, we can also hear her disturbing demand “Give me your foot” 😱 maybe alluding to the cliché that ghosts or evil entities like to pull the feet of their victims, (for some reason we don't know) but anyway, the thing is that although we can't see the villain, just hear her and perceive her in some way, this uncertainty generates tension. The cinematography on the other hand plays a very important role because the darkness and that greenish filter transmits insecurity and oppression, while the actress who plays Emma reacts as any person would do while having such a nightmare: panicking, breathing heavily, with wet eyes, that is, all this is what is needed to introduce the audience to what will be a good horror series.
Una de las mejores cualidades de esta serie, y es lo que yo más aprecio como amante del género, el manejo del terror, en serio es muy acertado, no voy a negar que algunas veces es un poco predecible, pero no la mayoría de las veces. Quiero que miren la escena que les voy a dejar a continuación porque es un claro ejemplo de lo que les digo, el director sabe muy bien como prolongar la tensión en esta escena. Sin mostrar al personaje en pantalla sabemos que el peligro está ahí, podemos oír a Marianne llamando a Emma con esa voz rasposa 😰, podemos percibirla arrastrándose por ahí 😨, también podemos oír su perturbadora demanda "Dame tu pie" 😱 tal vez haciendo alusión al cliché que a los fantasmas o entidades malignas les gusta jalar los pies de sus víctimas, (por alguna razón que desconocemos) pero en fin, el caso es que aunque no podemos ver a la villana, tan solo oírla y percibirla de alguna forma, esta incertidumbre nos genera tensión. La fotografía por otro lado juega un papel muy importante porque la oscuridad y ese filtro verdoso transmite inseguridad y opresión, mientras que la actriz que interpreta a Emma reacciona tal y como lo haría cualquier persona mientras tiene semejante pesadilla: con pánico, respirando de forma entrecortada, con los ojos húmedos, es decir, todo esto es lo que se necesita para introducir al público en lo que será una buena serie de terror.
This other one is one of my favorites because they use the same resources of the previous scene: darkness, opaque and greenish filter and the reaction of the character, who did not imagine that the person who was talking to her at that moment on the phone and who was supposed to help her, ended up transforming somehow into Marianne's voice guiding her so she could find her. This scene reminded me a bit of The Conjuring, where one of the girls manages to see Batsheda behind the door (although we as viewers do not see her) in this case, in the series, we do see the source of the danger, and she is presented to us with a disturbing appearance, mimicking Mrs. Daugeron, who gives a wonderful performance, managing to terrify the audience.
Esta otra es de mis favoritas porque usan los mismos recursos de la escena anterior: oscuridad, filtro opaco y verdoso y la reacción del personaje, quien no imaginaba que la persona que estaba hablando con ella en ese momento por teléfono y que se supone la ayudaría, terminó transformándose de alguna forma en la voz de Marianne que la guiaba para que pudiera encontrarla. Esta escena me recordó un poco al Conjuro, donde una de las niñas logra ver a Batsheda detrás de la puerta (aunque nosotros como espectadores no la vemos) en este caso, en la serie, sí que vemos a la fuente del peligro, y se nos presenta con una apariencia perturbadora, mimetizada con la Sra. Daugeron, quien hace una interpretación maravillosa, logrando aterrar a la audiencia.
I loved the actress they used at the end to reveal Marianne's real form (maybe how she looked before she died) Clara Brajtman, the actress who played her did it wonderfully, because, although her appearance was not frightening, her facial gestures were, it was as if she wanted to convey confidence to Emma, but as if at the same time you could decipher the evil that lies within her, it is disconcerting and at the same time fascinating.
Me encantó la actriz que usaron al final para revelar la forma real de Marianne (quizá como lucía antes de morir) Clara Brajtman, la actriz que la interpretó lo hizo maravillosamente, pues, aunque su apariencia no era aterradora, sí lo eran sus gestos faciales, era como si quisiera transmitirle confianza a Emma, pero como si a la vez pudieras descifrar la maldad que radica en su interior, es desconcertante y a la vez fascinante.
