  1. Memory || Liam Neeson Plays A Familiar Role But With A Twist@teknon605d

    Screenshot_20241027-175830_1.png

Memory (2022) directed by Martin Campbell is a crime thriller that brings Liam Neeson back into a familiar role, but with a twist. I chose to watch this film because of course it had Liam in it. I read it's based on the 2003 Belgian film De Zaak Alzheimer, and the story follows Alex, an aging hitman facing early stages of Alzheimer’s. When he finds himself on a mission that conflicts with his moral code, he suddenly becomes a target while also contending with fading memory.

    Screenshot_20241027-181202_1.png

    Synopsis

The film centers on Alex (Neeson), who is tired of a life filled with violence but takes on what he believes is his last job. When he’s assigned to kill a young girl, however, his conscience kicks in, leading him to refuse. This decision unleashes a chain of events that pits him against both the organization that hired him and the authorities who are closing in. Detective Vincent Serra (Guy Pearce) plays a persistent FBI agent committed to unraveling the mysteries behind Alex’s targets.

    My Review and Rating

This film leans heavily on Neeson’s reliable action hero persona but seeks to go deeper by portraying a hitman grappling with dementia. It’s an ambitious angle that adds a layer of vulnerability to the character; he’s physically capable, but mentally, he’s not always in control.

Watching Alex fight both his enemies and his own mind brings tension, but some scenes do feel a bit repetitive. Liam Neeson does well in expressing the frustration and helplessness that comes with memory loss, though at times, I found myself wishing the film explored his character’s inner turmoil more deeply instead of just focusing on action.

    Screenshot_20241031-180258_1.png

The plot has a strong start, but as it progresses, it feels like it loses some of its originality. A handful of twists are easy to predict, which takes away from the suspense and at times, the action scenes feel overly familiar. Still, the film’s commentary on morality, loss and the gray areas of justice does add some depth.

    Screenshot_20241031-180321_1.png

There’s also something darkly humorous about the fact that Neeson’s character is forgetting things. I almost expected him to end up at a totally wrong location or accidentally target someone harmless. It might sound odd, but it could have added a lighter edge that fits within the grittiness.

Memory is not without flaws, but if you enjoy crime thrillers with a morally complex protagonist, it’s worth a watch.

    Screenshot_20241031-180408_1.png

The plot doesn’t break new ground, but the character’s struggle with Alzheimer’s adds an interesting twist. And as always, Neeson delivers in the role of a skilled yet weary hitman.

I’d give it a ⅗ solid, but it could have used a bit more unpredictability.

  2. Memory (2023)@andreseloy581616d
    [Source](https://www.filmaffinity.com/ve/filmimages.php?movie_id=886877)

The main couple is Sylvia (Jessica Chastain) and Saul (Peter Sarsgaard). Sylvia works at a center for the disabled and spends her free time at her daughter's and Alcoholics Anonymous meetings.

For his part, Saul does not have a day-to-day life like Sylvia.

He cannot understand it because he has been suffering from dementia for some time.

That's why he lives with his brother and daughter between confusion and sanity. Until one night he follows Sylvia home and this strange event brings them irremediably closer.

Because in Memory, people who seemed far away and without a future turned out not to be at all. And in the end, if the two do anything at all, it will be a life full of wounds that will require companionship.

Sylvia tries not to remember the traumatic violence of her past, which often frightens her. Almost locked in her own home.

Carrying within her an almost nameless pain destroyed her completely.

And Saul fell into a state of panic and oblivion.

Gradually they will surely approachtheir demise as people who are alive and remember what they have been through.

A seemingly impossible relationship begins to bear fruit when Sylvia is hired to take care of Saul.

At first I was a little worried because of the erratic changes in memory.

Because Sylvia doesn't want to remember her terrible past and because of this great pain, she sometimes changes some of her pain so that it's not so heavy.

And in that natural defense, she meets Saul for the first time and mistakes him for someone else.

Until little by little she felt complicit with that helpless man , which terrified her.

    But can loveexist without memory?

Will you be able to make plans with someone in the abyss of oblivion?

And of course, is there room for healthy relationships after violence?

To love and be loved without the demons inside that make you tremble?

A truly fascinatingrange of topics that Memory tackles with intelligence, great taste and great empathy for his characters.

Here, director Michel Franco shows a sweetness perhaps not seen before in his films. This is thanks to some excellent lead actors .

Because Peter Sarsgaard was a scared little boy. Confused by this ugly word “dementia”.

In this regard , the scene where he lies naked in the bathroom until Sylvia comes to pick him up is very significant .

It shows what skills he should focus on.

The consequence was certainly his suffering in the past.

Wouldsomeone who has experienced a lack of focus become more aware?

    Memory is a great movie.

A romantic film about two people suffering and finding refuge for each other. A woman who hid a history of abuse and a man diagnosed with dementia.

Theoretically the union is impossible, but both will live between fear and unexpected joy .

The plot tells the story of Sylvia a woman who is a single mother and at the same time a social worker who leads a seemingly normal and structured life where she spends most of her time at her job where she takes care of the elderly in a nursing home, she also takes care of her daughter and as a fundamental part of her routine she goes to a group of alcoholics anonymous because of her past problems with alcohol. Her life is basically calculated so that things don't fall apart and she doesn't fall back into addiction, she is quite lonely until one day at an alumni meeting at her school she runs into a man named Saul, she is a little upset when she notices his presence so she decides to leave the meeting but Saul follows her all the way to her house.

This stranger named Saul begins to have meetings with Sylvia although she tries to tell him that she does not want to have him around, but in one of their meetings she learns that Saul suffers from Alzheimer's and that he is in the care of his brother with whom he lives, for Sylvia this is news that surprises her but somehow generates a little satisfaction for her since Saul and Sylvia seem to be much more than strangers. Sylvia tries to stay away but can't help feeling that she should spend time with Saul, perhaps to be his companion or for him to be hers. There is a lot of nostalgia for the past that unites them and a lot of irony between the things that happened and the lack of memories within it as a result of Saul's disease such as Alzheimer's and the memories deeply hidden in the subconscious of Sylvia's mind that generate a lot of fear and dread to remember.

This encounter between Saul and Sylvia I feel that it did not happen by chance, both had to learn from the things they lived in the past and that marked them in some way having consequences in their present. The lack of memory is one of the reasons where many of our memories and traumas are hidden, the brain somehow makes our mind try to repress those situations that generated a great fear or anguish at some point in our lives and this is something that happens in Sylvia's life, who had a childhood marked by the sexual abuse she lived and was a victim of her own parents who denied the situation and simply branded her as crazy.

It was very difficult for Sylvia to accept that she should have been protected in her childhood and that this did not happen, which led her to consume alcohol and depend on it to cope with her pain. As for Saul also had to do with Sylvia's traumas and although he can not remember because of his illness, he feels he must ask for forgiveness even though things can no longer be the same, director Michel Franco manages to capture all those key moments to understand that the story beyond being something dramatic shows us that there can be a moment of wanting to move forward despite the painful experiences of the past, that memories often remain forgotten but something that can not be forgotten is the way you felt in those moments.

Memory is a story where the characters intertwine and somehow seek to forgive each other for what happened in the past, plus somehow also loneliness unites Sylvia and Saul in a way that feels the affection between them where they live a love relationship although this is not the main theme of the film, I liked the performances especially Jessica Chastain who played the role of Sylvia and her life story in a unique yet heartbreaking way. I have read comments that some people did not like the movie, I think you have to look beyond what they show us and look for what they try to convey during the story, I am left with a reflection and that is that if you do not recognize your past and the painful experiences you lived and talk to someone you trust you can never heal completely and will always live in fear as Sylvia, a woman who in her childhood was abused by a very important person in her life and that this marked a before and after in the way she saw and lived her life.

  4. Memory, a modern neo-noir masterwork@ismaca774d
    [Image](https://www.filmaffinity.com/ve/filmimages.php?movie_id=454040)

Belgian director Martin Campbell has created an atmospheric cat-and-mouse thriller with Memory, starring Liam Neeson at the top of his game.

Campbell builds a gripping neo-noir world in which nothing is as it seems.

The story centres on Alex Lewis, a hitman who suffers from mental lapses. One day, Alex refuses to kill a 13-year-old girl in cold blood and thus becomes a serious problem for the organisation that hired him.

The FBI will not stand idly by as the dead turn up in the city of El Paso, Texas.

    [Image](https://www.filmaffinity.com/ve/filmimages.php?movie_id=454040)

Campbell elevates the paranoia to exquisite heights through Neeson's internally conflicted but focused performance.

Every scene throbs with searing intensity beneath Alex's serene surface.

Visually, Campbell and cinematographer Rodney Charters construct a labyrinthine streetscape where danger pulsates around every dark corner.

Though perhaps too cerebral for some, Memory is a thrill ride that plumbs the depths of reflection on identity, the manipulation of memory and human nature with immense force and no shortage of pulse-quickening action scenes.

It confirms Campbell and Neeson as modern masters and will surely influence the psychological depths of the spy genre for years to come. Haunting and unforgettable.

    image.png Image

Liam Neeson received widespread praise for his intensely physical and internalized turn as the assassin Alex, though surprisingly no major award nominations to date. His performance will surely be remembered as one of his finest.

Director Martin Campbell and writer Bill Collage crafted an expertly tight psychological cat-and-mouse story that has drawn comparisons to classics like Memento and The Fugitive.

Commercially, Memory found an audience on its mid-budget release, grossing $42 million worldwide against a $20 million production budget.

In theaters, it made $23 million domestically and $19 million internationally, showing the enduring appeal of Neeson in gritty action roles and Campbell's mastery of the genre.

Memory has performed well in home video markets too, finding the dedicated audiences its intricate story deserves.

While perhaps too dark and complex for broader multiplex success, Memory stands as a modern neo-noir masterwork that's only grown in estimation since its release.

  5. Memory, Michel Franco, 2023@claudio83784d

A pain that makes you forget and one to forget. A memory that is lost and one that one would like to lose. The ribbons of two opposite stories meet exactly in the middle where everything is in balance and each of the two paths takes a new and different direction together with the other. Because where memory cannot be lost or recovered, it can still be overwritten.

    cinema-g7cd451c7d_1280.jpg

Sylvia, an overprotective single mother with a past as an alcoholic who now works as a social worker, accidentally crosses paths with Saul, the man who raped her in high school. The latter, however, now suffers from dementia and is therefore unable to remember the event, which pushes Sylvia herself to investigate and question her memory: doubtful of having blamed the wrong man, she offers to take care of of Saul to keep an eye on him.

The intimate and wounded delicacy of the story written and directed by Michel Franco takes shape and feeling in the superlative performances of Jessica Chastain and Peter Sarsgaard who make and are the entire film.

  6. (ESP-ENG) Memory, muertes y venganza al estilo Liam Neeson // Memory, death and revenge, Liam Neeson style!@javyeslava.photo1470d

    **

Hola amigos, buenas vibras para todos.

    **

Hello friends, good vibes to all.

    Source!

I think that so far this year I have reviewed about three Liam Neeson movies (Blacklight, Ice Road and now this one) where we see a different Neeson in all three but in essence and style is almost always the same. The truth is that I'm here again talking about the last film of this actor because I really am a fan of him and his work, these are films that are obviously not made to compete for an award but to entertain the viewer the way Liam knows how to do it, with deaths, chases, settling scores and above all the engine that drives the vast majority of his films: revenge.

This story does not escape from that and honestly it seems that it will never get tired or at least to me, why? - Because we all know how these plots are going to be and basically that's what we are waiting for, once the film starts the paths can be infinite but the central premise will always be revenge and let's be honest, who doesn't like to see how a person takes justice into his own hands when he sees the "incompetence" of those in charge of delivering it?..... It will always be entertaining to watch, depending on how you handle it and how you act it out. But okay, let's talk a bit about this latest Neeson plot.

    a

    Source!

This story begins with Alex Lewis (Liam Neeson) who is a known contract killer who has a truly impeccable reputation. The thing is that Alex is apparently working for some people who belong to a powerful criminal organization and who are not used to receive a "no" as an answer being that precisely the trigger that will start the problems that will be presented in the future to Mr. Lewis. As if this were not enough, in addition to being the target of this organization, he is also being pursued by another even more silent and lethal monster, a mental illness.

But of course, why did Alex reach this point of enmity with these people? - Because he refused to do a job and having a contract established with them, he would be in breach of it. But that will not be a reason for this murderer to escape from those who want him dead but in parallel will be dedicated to hunt his persecutors, he has the skills and knowledge necessary to do that except for the small detail of mental illness. One that makes everything more difficult to achieve and that increasingly limits everything Alex can do and even who to trust.

Liam Neeson's movies are basic but incredibly entertaining, that's the reality and those who are looking for something deeper, I think this is not the content they should see. In Memory we see how everything starts to go less than five minutes into the film, that serves as a preamble to more or less think about how the rest will be. In fact I remember that when I saw that I was surprised because I did not expect it to happen, this logically motivated me that I would probably be facing a film in which there would be no shortage of murders, plots, settling of scores, etc.. These films always have like a "body" to say it in a way and is that in all the concept of execution and revenge go hand in hand and that what makes is that one does not stop watching them.

It is not a plot where we will see great actions of hand to hand combat, if there are some where you will see a Neeson that despite the age he has, he still performs well, but there are more than enough, it is not a film that asks so much because we are in a roll a little more investigative and detective so the action scenes are few but in my opinion very well done and all with some common sense, it is not exploit something just for the sake of doing it and that's it. There is something a little curious and it is Liam's fighting style, it is not a flashy one but it is extremely effective and lethal, we are talking about the Israeli krav maga which seeks to neutralize the opponents in the most effective way possible. That is why you will rarely see him throw a kick or punch as we are used to see them on the big screen.

It's a police thriller if you ask me where the tension is there from the first moments, as I said. At the beginning everything may be confusing but as the plot progresses the threads come together and we understand what is really going on. In my case I never lost my attention, I always kept watching it because these films in general invite the viewer to also seek to discover and solve the case. Also, given the nature of the criminal organization, which I won't say because the idea is for you to discover it, it is very easy to choose a side and create empathy with some characters, not only with Alex. It is one of those plots that outrage you and you think that if "I were there I would break his knees" because you understand that justice will not do anything about it. The truth is, and now that I'm writing this I can tell you that I enjoyed it a lot, I'm not complaining at all.

As for the characters it must be said that the casting is very good, another reason why I decided to see this film. Besides Neeson we have Monica Bellucci and Guy Pearce. Liam here we see how the years do not pass in vain but he is still a good actor, he is not one of those who will jump on cars and run two hundred meters but he is one of those who can give you a beating with just three movements. The detail of the mental illness will show him more human and vulnerable, he can give you pity at various times and that is something that is very rare to see in him since he is usually a tough as nails guy. Another great success for Liam, a movie that covered all my expectations.

On the other hand Pierce and Monica Bellucci are co-stars, the first is an FBI agent who by traumas of his past will always act in search of good and the second is a tycoon who thanks to money and her position controls the power as she sees fit. The two characters are nothing extraordinary but they were well done and above all convincing, which in many occasions is what fails, here I feel that it does not. Both in their own way had motives to act as they did and that is reflected in their characters. Nothing to say about them, one with more weight than the other but in the end they were well done.

In short, a movie to see if you want to disconnect a little and distract yourself with a good police story full of revenge. It is a story whose only purpose and I repeat it again is to entertain as well as to give us the opportunity to see Liam Neeson because we do not know when his retirement will come closer and closer. Tension, action and a bit of criminal suspense is what you will see when you decide to watch Memory.

An 8/10 because it's everything I expected and maybe a little more from a Neeson movie. At first I thought about giving it 7.5 but then I remembered the cast and the truth is that it caught my attention to see two great actors and they did decently so I bumped it up to 8. It has a running time of about an hour and fifty minutes of which I assure you will not be annoyed. Here is the trailer for you to take a look at.

Hello friends, I love the actor Liam Neeson, I think he is one of the best actors of his time, that's why every time he releases a movie I don't stop watching it, despite being almost 70 years old, he is still very active in the cinema , but the years take their toll and we no longer see those great action movies like in “Relentless Pursuit”. Despite this, he has recently released several films and among them Memory (Assassin without Memory), in it we see him no longer as the vigilante and hero that we are used to seeing, but as a cold and ruthless contract killer, but with a code at the time of killing. Memory tells us about the twilight of a murderer who ultimately becomes a vigilante looking for a kind of redemption at the end of his life.

The film directed by Martin Campbell, portrays one of the most delicate problems that occur between the borders of Mexico and the USA, that of capturing illegal girls for prostitution and the mafias that are in charge of it. It has a cast led by: Liam Neeson (Alex Lewis), Guy Pearce (Vincent Serra), Monica Belluci (Davana Sealman), Harold Torres (Hugo Márquez), Taj Awal (Linda Amistead), Ray Stevenson (Danny Mora), among others. Who with their actions takes us into a cruel and inhuman world where the victims of these atrocities to girls go unpunished by justice.

Here are a series of situations that could put Alex in the crosshairs of the mafia that hired him. While the FBI, whose special team led by Vincent (Guy) and his team investigate this mafia that operates with illegal trafficking and prostitution. In his investigations to capture a member of this mafia, he will die, leaving his daughter as the only witness. Vicent will try to help and protect her, but it will not be possible.

At this point a series of them will take place that takes us into a world where power, money, will make themselves felt to cover up the facts. The film is entertaining and keeps us attentive to the development of the plot, it is not a new topic but what stands out are the performances of Liam and Guy in their characters that shine in my opinion. We will not see a Neeson in fights and action scenes as in other of his films, he no longer has the same agility, but he shows us his acting skills that are still intact. On his part, Guy shows us a real man concerned about doing the right thing despite his superiors and bringing justice to the less fortunate.

Although you have great performances by Liam and Guy, it is not enough to save the movie that is full of clichés and the script is very weak and does not meet expectations, the villain in this movie does not have a valid background than being a mother, the subplots do not delve into the central theme of the story (the trafficking of children for prostitution), which means that the essentials of the film are lost and it is only a film in which a murderer does something good to the final. I was disappointed in the film because I thought that due to its director and the quality of the actors it could be a film that would make Liam Neeson shine, but it was only a passable and forgettable film.
