  1. A Life Changing Movie; No Escape@fashtioluwa842d

Have you ever watched a movie that you relate so well to, not because you have faced the same situation but because the actors are so good that you feel like you’re there with them when the real action is taking place? The movie “No Escape” is a 2015 movie directed by John Erick Dowdle. The direction of this movie probably directed the hearts of everyone watching it. It’s a movie packed with action, suspense, thrillers, and much more. Image source

Jack is a man desperate to protect his family in this intense, fast-paced action thriller. As he relocates his family to Asia with his wife Annie and their two young girls, Jack has no idea of the terror that lies in store. Within days of their arrival, a violent uprising had swept through the city, and the family was on the run, desperately searching for safety. With seasoned expat Hammond as their only ally, time is against Jack and his family as they are caught in the middle of a nation at war, with their courage put to the ultimate test.

This movie is very emotional because it tells the story of a dad who was ready to risk anything for his family's sake. After arriving in South Asia, the plan was to start a new life with his family because, why not? Everyone wants a fresh start. Without a doubt, there was a brewing civil war going on. Just a few weeks after their arrival, the war started, and they had to get out of that city that day if they wanted to keep their lives. The war muggers were going into people's homes to check if they were for them or not, and if not, they dealt with such people with unforgivable methods.

    Jack. The husband.

Jack wasn’t just a husband to Annie; he was a father to two beautiful girls, and the burden of protecting them during this war period was on him. He has to be able to lead and make the right decision at the right time; if not, his family life will be at stake. This is just like the burden many fathers shoulder. Some fathers don’t live the life they want because they want a future for their children. If Jack had left his family behind, he would have gotten to safety a long time ago, but what is life without his family?

    Annie, the wife

Annie showed how strong a woman can be; she was very supportive of her husband and followed his instructions. If not for her obedience and intuition to give her husband a sense of directness when he feels down, they would all have died too. Annie’s bravery should be commended because there are times she has had to run from flying bullets and jump from high-story buildings.

    The kids

Sometimes, kids can act in a way that shows that “yes, they are just kids.” These lovely girls trusted their parents even when the odds were against them. Sometimes they act foolishly, and sometimes they show the resilience to survive. The kids survived because they trusted their father.

    Friends

Hammond was someone they met along their way to escape the city of doom. With the same goal at heart, it was easy for them to become friends and work together to achieve that goal.   How can I relate this to the life I’m living and society? We are humans, and we have different stages of life that teach us different lessons. The husband made me think of my dad, who, at every point, is out there trying to make us his kids have a good life and a future.   The wife, who was able to support her husband in hard times, was able to provide solutions at different times, so the burden wouldn’t be too much on him and the obedient children. There are things our parents would tell us that we would think they didn’t know what they were doing, but after we followed their instructions, it turned out that they were right.   Finally, there are people who come into our lives for a brief moment but have the biggest impact on our growth and survival. We don’t have to rely on our power when we are too weak to make certain life decisions. Sometimes we need friends we can count on; some might be old friends and some might be new friends. We are social beings, which means we need each other to achieve some particular things.   Thanks for reading.

Greetings dear friends who make life in this great community, I hope that both you and your loved ones are very well and that you had a great time today. I am excited to share with you a review and my opinion about another movie that I saw recently. It is about: No Escape a 2015 film that although it came out several years ago, I had not had the opportunity to see it and had not even heard of it in all this time.

Surprisingly without looking for anything related to the title of this movie, until watching some entertainment videos on a social network, a short scene from this movie appeared out of nowhere. I usually don't trust these videos, because the movies turn out to be very different from that single shared scene. But having no other options to watch, we decided to look for this one and give it a chance to surprise us.

The main reason why I wanted to see it was because of the well known actor Owen Wilson, the last movie I saw of him I didn't like very much, but I was curious to know how he was doing in an action movie and so different from the ones we usually see of him, because despite all his bad roles, I don't consider him to be a bad actor. So it was mainly this that ended up encouraging me to see this movie, I thought this was a movie from this same year, until we got it.

Coup d'état tells the story of a family of 4 members, dad, mom and two little girls, who due to their economic situation and the intense desire to give a better life to their little girls, make the decision to go far away from their country of origin, to work in a big company that promised to give them the opportunity to have a quite comfortable life and that although this would be a big challenge, the father was convinced that things would get better soon.

When he arrives he realizes that the decision he has made affects his wife, who for the sake of their daughters does her best to be positive, however, gripped by fear and the uncertainty of not knowing the language, culture, or how things would go, she lets her husband know her opinion and assures him that everything will be fine, what he does not know is that outside that beautiful hotel, everything seems to be turning a somewhat cloudy color.

With no Internet, no phone signal and no current newspapers in the whole country, he begins to worry about himself and his family and to wonder if it was a good decision to leave everything to go to that distant place. But while those thoughts invade his mind he found himself in the middle of a confrontation that almost left him lifeless, not knowing that this would only be the beginning of several hours and days of despair and fear, because as the title of the film says, a coup d'état has been launched in the country.

This movie, I must be honest, filled me with a bit of anxiety, maybe I can't watch this kind of movies anymore or maybe it just wasn't a good time, but everything that happened in it, made me desperate to the point that I ended up a bit upset. However, I feel that this only happened because of how compelling it was and because it dealt with very realistic scenarios, of situations that would be just as they would be if they were to happen.

Leaving this aside, I liked the performance of the actors and the plot, it was entertaining from beginning to end, because from the beginning to the end I watched attentively waiting to see what would happen. I could feel the desperation of the actors as they faced the different difficult situations that were presented to them and how each member of that small family suffered that terrible misfortune.

Among so many things, I can highlight how the love of a good father or a good husband is so sacrificial, sometimes leaving aside their own interests and comforts, to give the best to their family. This is something that comes naturally to many, that desire to protect their own and preserve their lives at all costs. This sometimes makes us see our parents as if they were superhuman and capable of anything. But the reality is that they are not and it is difficult for them at times.

On the other hand you can never predict what is going to happen, maybe we have a very good plan in which we have considered what can go wrong and options to fix it, but there are so many situations in life that it is simply impossible to prevent them or prepare for all of them. That is why sometimes, without expecting it, things go wrong and no matter how much fear we have, we can do nothing but face them and use our ability to adapt.

No matter what happens or what our plans are, this movie leaves us with the beautiful teaching that no matter what, we should always keep them next to our family, somehow that gives us strength to keep fighting when something does not go as we expect.

I hope with all my heart that you have liked my publication, but more than anything that it has helped you to find a good movie to enjoy, in case you have already seen it, I would like to know your opinion about it. Thank you very much for taking the time to read me, see you soon friends, we'll read each other next time.

  3. No Escape (2015) - Movie Review@coldsteem3217d

    no escape.jpeg

I saw No Escape at the theater in 2015. I am not sure why I was bored enough to watch it again last night, but I did. And I remembered that I actually liked this film. At it's core, this suspense film is a "chase" film. When we think of chase films, we normally think of cars. Or we think of a hero being chased by a bad guy. Or a hero trying to race against time to save the world. The concept is certainly not new. But you are able to milk a lot more suspense out of this type of film when the hero is just a normal guy trying to save his family. A family that includes two small children who represent a clear challenge, adding to the suspense.

    escape1.jpg

My biggest challenge with No Escape was accepting Owen Wilson in a serious role. A hero role even. I'm not a big fan of his to begin with. But I was surprised that he managed to pull it off. Maybe he is just goofy enough to help create the tension of an average father (Jack Dwyer) trying to save his family. Had they cast a tough guy in the role, it might have played differently. Instead, Wilson managed to keep me off balance. Lake Bell took on the role of his wife. She was decent enough. I was more impressed with the actors who portrayed their two young children, Sterling Jerins and Claire Geare. The girls gave us fear beyond just irritating screams. They were immersed in the story and gave performances capable of selling it.

    escape3.jpg

The chase comes in the form of a contractor who moves his family to a country in Southeast Asia where he is an engineer for a waterworks project. Without saying so, the suggestion that it takes place in Cambodia. The timing corresponds with a coup led by rebels upset by foreign investment and involvement in the country. They immediately begin executing foreigners. Dwyer must locate all his family members and figure out where to go. As the hotel is overrun, the chase is on. Is the Embassy safe? A temple? Where does a family with children go in a country where they don't speak the language? While being hunted by a ruthless group of assassins. The presence of the children creates a lot of tension that might not otherwise be present. It was a great concept that played out pretty well. Although I had to suspend belief a few times.

    escape4.jpg

This story comes to us from John Erick Dowdle, who also directed. Something he has done on several previous films, although I did not see all of them, and didn't care for the one I did see (Quarantine). Chase films seldom have a strong narrative arc. Normally they are pretty cut and dry. This film had a decent set up, taking place almost immediately after the Dwyer's arrive in Asia. The majority of the film one elongated chase scenes with some false reprieves and a few minor twists. The suspense builds, releases, builds, releases. It is a cyclic operation of tense scenes followed by dialogue, decision making and action. It works. I don't know why. For all intents and purposes, I should be panning this film. But I thought it was well done.

    noescape5.jpg

Dowdle gives us a film that seems shorter than its 103 minute runtime. The action and pacing are perfect for a suspense/thriller. He creates several situations that build the suspense before allowing us to catch our breath. And then immediately into the next scenario. It is a pulse driving pace that was almost believable, but definitely worth watching. IMDb isn't as kind as I am, giving the film (currently) a reasonable 6.8 rating. That's not really indicative of a bad film. But it seems kind of average. It is definitely worth watching free (on Showtime right now). I am more in the neighborhood of 7.5/10.
