  1. My Review of the movie "Overcomer"@young-tari348d

    20250718_064209.jpg

Movies that tell the story of true-life events crack me like I'm about to lose something in my body. Af first, I didn't know the movie was a true-life event till the end.

At that moment I felt lied to, I felt betrayed because why wouldn't someone tell me about it, rather than I finding out at the end of the movie.

Does being lied to define how I feel about the movie?  Well, it's a no, I loved the movie regardless. Having some spare time and not knowing what to watch at that moment to keep my eyes busy, someone gave a positive review about this movie, and I went "this is the right one".

    The Plot

"Overcomer" tells the story of a young athlete named Hannah who is also asthmatic. Hannah lives with her grandmother "Barbara,"  who has been telling Hannah the stories of how her father died.

Growing up, Hannah believed that her father had died. Hannah's school coach got an interest in her because of how passionate she is for running, despite having asthma, she didn't let that stop her from becoming one of the best in the school.

Hannah's coach and his wife Amy visit the hospital one day to see their friend, but accidentally enter the room of someone named "Hill," who is blind and diabetic, and was once a cross-country runner. Hannah's coach and Hill began conversing. Hannah's coach started visiting Hill often to learn more about him when he discovered that Hill is Hannah's biological father.

Hannah's coach, "John," told Hannah about her father and asked if she could visit him. Hannah rejected the offer several times until one day she decided to reluctantly visit Hill at the hospital. When Hannah's grandmother, "Barbara," heard the news of their visit, she became furious and threatened John that she was gonna report him for legal action if he took Hannah to her father without discussing it with her again.

As time went by, Barbara went to the Lord in prayer seeking forgiveness, and after a while, she allowed Hannah to visit her father in the hospital. Hannah creates a bond with her father. When the day of the state champions race came, Hill gave his daughter Hannah an earbud and a player.

Then Hannah's coach, "John," tells her to play the player as the race begins. All through the race, Hannah listened to her father's voice of coaching and encouragement, which led her to win the race. At the end of the race, Hannah got a call about her father passing away.

    My Review

Let me take a deep breath before continuing because it's gonna enable me to think properly before going with the review. I loved the fact that it was based on a true-life event, "that was the major captivation." The movie was awesome.

    20250718_064248.jpg

I loved every scene as it unfolded, and I would often be left thinking about the action that would unfold in the next scene. I stayed glued to my screen all through the movie, and I believe my time spent watching this movie wasn't a waste.

In high school, coaches would ensure that their students achieve the best of their abilities both mentally and physically. Not gonna lie, that is what Coach John did for Hannah; he was fully present in her life.

    20250718_064300.jpg

Hannah, meeting her father for the first time, thinking he is dead. That moment was so emotional, not believing in who she was seeing, as those tears rolled down her cheeks. That last twenty minutes in the movie, when he was coaching her through the race, shows how present he wanted to be in her life. But then life happens and Hannah couldn't spend some quality time with her father. I'm gonna rate this movie a 9/10.

    Happy monday!

    ¡Feliz lunes!

    .

Winning! A subject that is well known to all but that is not really talked about much because it is believed that everything is implicit in the mere fact of winning.

¡Ganar!

I really liked this theme and I immediately related it to a movie that I was able to see with family and friends a few months ago and that perfectly coordinates with the theme of winning, but not just in one aspect, but in several.

This film represents winning in different ways, as I said before, in the film you can see how you win a cross country competition directly, but on the way to that victory, you win in other ways, even after winning the competition, you can see how victories keep coming to the life of the protagonist.

The young protagonist was in a terrible situation at home, everything was lost in her life but it was enough for a coach to come into her life and help her get out of that situation in which she found herself, without realizing it and through that young athlete , the coach would also end up winning more than one championship.

What this character had to do the most to achieve victory was to recognize that he was wrong, that there were many things in his life, at his young age, that were not right and that in order to straighten his path, he had to fix things in his life. personal and spiritual life in order to first obtain a personal victory and then win a professional victory.

Personally I have experienced something similar in certain aspects to what the main character and the coach character experienced during the movie. It is never easy to admit mistakes in our lives, but if by admitting them we can achieve a greater victory than we hope to obtain, it is worth working on it.

We all struggle to achieve a victory, I would be lying if I say that I have not gone through moments where the easiest way is to give up, as happened to the young protagonist, but she found the strength in God to keep walking; that is an aspect with which I can identify without problems.

The way in which the victories were represented during the film was perfect, they should not have happened in a different way, I think they would not have had the same effect on the final result if they had been treated in a different way.

The fact that everything has happened because of the help of others, is proof that no victory can be achieved alone, someone or something is always needed to win in this life and if someone believes otherwise, it is not realistic. about it and his ego prevents him from seeing that by doing things alone, nothing can be possible.

  3. Overcomer ~ Movie Review@evegrace1567d

About The Movie Overcome is a Netflix drama released 20 September 2019 (Nigeria). The film stars Alex Kendrick, Priscilla Shirer, Shari Rigby, Jack Sterner, Cameron Arnett, and Aryn Wright-Thompson. Written by Alex Kendrick; Stephen Kendrick and directed by Alex Kendrick.

    The Plot

A high-school basketball coach John Harrison is asked to take over a cross country sport he doesn't even like, realizing that his team won't be participating in the won't as planned for the season because their town's largest manufacturing plant shuts down unexpectedly and hundreds of parents are moving away withdrawing their kids out of the school, John reluctantly agrees to coach cross-country sport realizing there was nothing else for him to do. He finds out just one student was going for the sport and the teen happens to be an asthmatic patient, Hannah Scott.

He doesn't know what to do but got inspired by a blind patient who he accidentally met in the hospital on his visit to an old friend after having an encounter with Thomas Hill who also happens to be an old cross country runner

He finds out Hannah was rare talent although asthmatic but pushes herself to the limit, his thoughts about the whole situation soon change as he was inspired by the words and prayers of Thomas. He starts to train Hannah for the biggest race of her young life.

Life changes for the coach and his family as he drew closer to God with the help of his newfound friend Thomas. John finds out Hannah was Thomas's daughter in one of his visits to Thomas when he was talking about his life and skims a way out for daughter and father to meet.

This resulted in Hannah's grandmother Barbara Scott coming to warn John Harrison and his wife Amy Harrison to stay away from her family business. The Harrison's had no option to pray to God and ask for his leading and help them touch the heart of Hannah's grandmother

The day for the final competition came and Hannah was given an ear aid to use which will aid her while running to reduce getting an attack on the way. She was coached by her father who happens to be in the hospital and almost at the end, Hannah gets an attack and couldn't go further but luckily since she was the first runner, the award was given to her as the best runner-up.

Hannah's father was later buried after spending a little time with his daughter who he once abandoned with her grandmother due to his reckless life while he was still a young teen.

It's been a while, I shed tears while watching a movie. The movie is centered around faith in God, belief in who we are and who created us, and forgiveness.

It is centered around determination to be who we wang to be regardless of our challenges in life.

Although I did not understand the part where Thomas, Hannah's father was able to guide Hannah through the road but I guess it was cool while I tried to figure out how he did that.
