Pearl: A Twisted Woman with Selfish Dream@ridgette255d

It's just fifteen days until it's officially November, and I’m really looking forward to binge-watching horror movies once our break starts. But before that horror binge-watching, I’ll first watch stories that are less horror—probably just the macabre ones, and that’s why last Saturday I watched Pearl. I already heard about it a lot of times, but honestly, I still have no clue what it's all about, so I gave it a try, and yes…it’s indeed a grim one. I thought it would be just a crime thriller movie, yet it somehow exceeded my expectations. I finished it the same day, and I also rewatched it earlier. That’s why, without further ado, I’ll now share with you a short peek at the life of a farmgirl who dreams of being a star, but is she really destined to be one?

About the Movie

Pearl is a 2022 drama and thriller movie that was directed Ti West and was written also by him and Mia Goth. It follows the story of Pearl, a farmgirl with grand dreams. She likes dancing and performing, yet due to her responsibilities, she had no choice but to let those dreams sit for a while. Tending her sick father and helping out in the farm duties have been a tedious routine for her; however, everything will change once she met the charming projectionist. He became the glimmer of hope for Pearl's plan to escape her miserable life. Despite that she’s married, they had an affair, but that was short-lived because the moment he discovered who she really is—he started to fear her, and she knows it because she feels things deeply.

She just wanted to be loved. Why can’t it be that simple? Little by little, Pearl realized that she needed to chase her dream, and she couldn’t chase it with all the attachments she had. Driven with mad desperation, jealousy, and loneliness, she does everything to cut all the binds that kept her from chasing it. Yet despite all of the things—the terrible, awful, and murderous things she had done—hard reality slapped her at the end. It was too late when she realized that not all dreamers are meant to achieve their dreams, for some just need to make the best of what they have. And she’s one of them.

When I first finished watching it, I was left speechless. I don’t know what to feel because my mind was still reeling from how mad she is. I couldn’t say she’s apathetic because she does feel emotions, only that she seemed to have no real compassion toward other living things other than herself. In short, she’s selfish and evidently twisted. Moving on from that, aside from her odd character, what also made me hooked up in this movie is its nice cinematography. Despite the vivid colors that were featured in the sceneries, the settings still emanate that strange and unsettling vibe. It like behind its beautiful facade lies a grim truth, and I like how it heightened the thrill and matched the theme of the story.

This movie felt like a narrative that’s split into two perspectives—Pearl’s dream and her reality. Her delusions felt like it’s straight out of the movie, the same as she imagined. It was fascinating how they’re able to integrate the visual and background sounds to make those scenes dreamy. And as for her reality, it all feels raw and jarring. I’m not really fond of seeing worms and decaying corpses, and also, it didn’t help that I was eating my lunch while watching it. So, it was pretty much a gut-wrenching experience for me, but still, I was able to finish and even rewatch it, so I guess that doesn’t made me lose my interest in it.

What really amazed me in this movie is how the actors and actresses portrayed their roles—especially Mia Goth, who played Pearl. Her monologue at the end of the movie was definitely memorable for me because even though all she’s spouting seemed like that of a mad woman, I still felt sympathy for her. Yes, she’s mad and twisted, but I can’t deny the fact that fate was cruel to her. Although it wasn’t a valid reason to go on a mass killing spree, but still, that cruel fate kinda drove out the remaining humanity in her. Also, I wanted to praise the performance of her father, even though he didn’t utter any lines—still, that crying scene at the end made a mark in my mind.

Overall, watching Pearl wasn’t exactly what I would describe as an enjoyable experience, and I knew it was made not to be one either. It has horror in its genre, but I’m not terrified...instead, I felt sad after watching it. That lullaby at the end still haunts my ears because it just felt too melancholic and heartbreaking. I don’t know, but I felt sad because I know there are also Pearls out there who are striving to achieve their dreams only to know at the end that those dreams aren’t meant to be realized…ok, ok, enough with the sentiments, I’m gonna rate my whole viewing experience as an 8/10. I know this review was extremely personal, but I do hope it give you a gist of what this whole movie is all about.

›'Pearl' by Ti West Review: An incredibly atmospheric thriller that looks into the descent into madness@namiks738d

I'll be honest: when I first saw the name Ti West, I immediately assumed it was the name of some rapper that had somehow managed to convince production companies and studios to support his directorial debut. I was quite happy with a bit of additional research to find that this was not the case! Ti West is a bit of a small filmmaker, a man of all trades in the film industry. Though mostly pertaining to the realm of low budget horror flicks, with some credits going as far as the much loved A/H/S franchise. I had never heard of him before, but I quite like when this happens. Stumbling into a filmmaker that I have no previous creations to attach them too, feeling a little curious as to what I could expect upon entering a creation of theirs. Pearl is a film I had briefly heard about, but I genuinely had no idea about what it was beyond being within the horror genre. It seems as if late I am finding more horror films, something out of the ordinary for me, and while there is this coincidence, I'm really not actively searching for them. This is something I'm quite happy with, finding horror films that have the ability to surprise me, while also not feeling the need to stash them away in a watchlist somewhere while waiting for the Halloween month of October to arrive.

From a glance, it appears that Pearl managed to successfully win over the critics, with a strong rating on multiple platforms, the more popular being a 92% rating across critics on Rotten Tomatoes. Usually I don't pay much attention to these ratings, given how quick it appears critics are to give anything and everything a high rating providing it ticks off a few boxes that claim it's doing something good for society. Though here and there I feel it can offer some decent judgement regarding a title, and in this instance I feel Pearl was accurately represented. For a horror film, most of this is psychological. Displaying the gradual decline of a character as obsessions take over and their ability to coherently think becomes warped with the dreams of becoming another person, living a life of luxury and fame, leaving behind their struggles that ultimately display a much harsher form of reality. It's an interesting look at how people cope with hardships, how the creative imagination can take over when faced with cruelty and sadness. How the mind finds coping mechanisms, even if such mechanisms lead to a much unhealthier environment. So keep in mind that this is a horror film, but with plenty of consideration for the psychological torment.

With our protagonist in the south of the United States, the film starts off with a really wholesome looking introduction. A calm village girl with plenty of kindness and ambition, skipping through the barn and talking to the animals, daydreaming of better days in which she leaves the farm and becomes a big star. This is mixed with the sudden realisation that she is no wholesome, sweet farm girl as she plunges a pitchfork into the body of a goose, proceeding to feed it to an alligator in the nearby river. This is the introduction to our supposed upcoming star. I loved how this started out, this twisting of our expectations, almost as if to imply that this sweet girl dreams of better days, escaping a farm that doesn't suit her interests nor contributes to her growth, all while the family overlook her ambitions. Then we see the psychotic side suddenly appear. This film is set in the year of 1918, with the First World War taking place. I think this setting is great for this type of film, showing the complications of a family in that era. The troubles of looking after a failing loved one that needs constant care. With this we see the war era holding some influence as she reads letters.

I think this introduction was incredibly engaging. Our character being utterly insane from the start, and giving us the question of how much more she could become. There's this immediate sense of danger and fear that come with her being seen on screen with other characters that perhaps don't know of her actions. Great storytelling from here that mixes the up-beat lifestyle of an aspiring creative with the threat of the mentally unstable. What possibly could she do from here on to try to prioritise this attempt at fame? Mixed with this is the scenes of war that are displayed within the screen in the cinema, the propaganda of war that actually desensitises the citizens. I found it interesting how the visuals help add to the questions we have, the realisation of what society back then could've been like and how it unintentionally aided the insanity of the vulnerable and dangerous. In the story there's an illness that is also spreading, I assume it's something along the lines of tuberculosis, which would've been strong in that time.

Colourful and joyful maintains the cinematography and music in the film. These combinations of a bright and beautiful world that looks much like the artistic and gentle of the ambitious mind. Maintaining that magical Hollywood approach, one may have this perception of an ambitious young actress with a hard life that keeps her down. Surrounded by the joy of life that she maintains, much like the animated, older films of Disney's golden era. With a 1918 setting, this was the peak of the silent movie period, the time of dance performances and a more musical approach to the world of cinema, and I feel that the style of the directing in this quite reflects that. Ti West has done a great job in that regard. The directing in this is certainly influenced in a more historical style, in one that promotes an atmosphere that is a total contrast to the events we see on the screen. In a way it's like a comedic perspective on such events, the type of ambient music one may see in a cartoon or sitcom.

In this regard much of the film is shot in a more theatrical performance manner. Our protagonist performs to us, though in reality to an audience of none. Showing the dream of working in show business. And the more we see it, the more it becomes evident that these delusions extend beyond a mere fascination with that life. It isn't clear what causes this either, with her husband being at war, at a glance it seems like a case of loneliness and uncertainty, though the more we see of it, the more it screams of insanity. I really liked how much of the film was made, I saw people online referring to it as a very slow burn, and not once did I feel that was accurate. More a study of character than anything else. Getting mere glimpses of those around her who also seem to resemble an odd nature. I haven't really seen a film like this before, featuring such an artistic, ambient look at the cruelty of the mind. It's hard to know where the film is going to go given how it teases this descent into increased madness.

To call it a horror seems a bit light. It's more a thriller. Not really featuring moments of intense horror but certainly a lot of eerie moments that heighten the suspense. This is a hard film to describe, even. Without trying to spoil the narrative and speak too much about its events, it's a film that really creates a monster from its very start. And it's absolutely worth the watch.

Hello everyone! Lovers of good movies, dear Movie & TV Shows community. I hope you are feeling great today. This time I want to share with you a new review, this time focused on Pearl. Here I will share my opinions and other points of view of this curious movie. As you may know (or some may not) Pearl is the prequel to the movie "X" by director Ty West, and I must admit that when I finished watching it, I felt like I lived a whole experience.

This movie is crazy (and never better said hahaha) it transports you to a dark and very twisted world. This film explores all the depths of the human mind and psychology... in a way that is so disturbing, but also fascinating. The first thing you notice when watching "Pearl" is its aesthetics, and that marked homage to Hollywood's golden era cinema, with some incredible focus, using a vibrant color palette, and a style that's half eighties, creating an enchanting visual look. It contrasts too well with the darkness that unfolds in the story, making you hooked, knowing that something is going to happen, but you don't quite know what.

En esta ocasión les quiero compartir una nueva reseña, esta vez enfocada en la Pearl. Aquí compartiré mis opiniones y demás puntos de vista de esta curiosa película. Como sabrán (o algunos no) Pearl es la precuela de la película “X” del director Ty West, y pues debo admitir que al terminar de verla, sentí que viví todo una experiencia.

Esta película está de locos (y nunca mejor dicho jajaja) te transporta a un mundo oscuro y muy retorcido. Esta cinta explora todas las profundidades de la mente y psicología humana.. de una manera tan inquietante, pero también fascinante. Lo primero que notas al ver “Pearl” es su estética, y ese homenaje marcado al cine de la era dorada de Hollywood, con unos increíbles enfoques, usando una paleta de colores vibrantes, y un estilo así medio ochentero, creando un aspecto visual encantador. Contrasta demasiado bien con la oscuridad que se desarrolla en la historia, haciéndote engancharte, sabiendo que algo va a pasar, pero que no terminas de saber qué.

I loved the soundtrack of this movie! It contributes greatly to the atmosphere, taking you to a bygone era with nostalgic music, that you get to enjoy a lot... from the first bars, we are presented with a captivating display of visual and aural beauty, creating a very good tension that is maintained throughout the film, and that usually does not go down. While the technical aspects are incredible, and I love to talk about how great they are... Pearl has stood out so much for its protagonist, who was played in a spectacular way by the actress Mia Goth, who plays the role of a young farm girl who dreams with all her being to become a movie star, but little by little, as the story progresses... We discover a darkness inside her that consumes her.

My favorite moment of the film, is the incredible monologue of more than ten minutes in which Mia demonstrates with all of her the great acting mastery she possesses, in this scene, she manages to completely hypnotize you as she explores the bowels of the psychology of this character, revealing the layers of her twisted mind in a way that leaves anyone breathless. Her performance undoubtedly deserved to be recognized, her intensity and ability to deliver strong emotions... was one of the best things this movie has, it makes you put a thousand and one faces, and that, when watching a movie I love it, that's exactly why productions of this kind are made, to make you feel something.

La banda sonora de esta película me encanto! Contribuye enormemente al ambiente, llevándote a una época pasada con músicas nostálgicas, que logras disfrutar mucho.. desde los primeros compases, se nos presenta una muestra cautivadora de belleza visual, y auditiva, creando una tensión muy buena que se mantiene por toda la película, y que normalmente no baja. Aunque los aspectos técnicos son increíbles, y me encanta hablar de lo geniales que son.. Pearl ha destacado tanto por su protagonista, quien fue interpretada de una manera espectacular por la actriz Mia Goth, quien hace el rol de una joven granjera que sueña con todo su ser convertirse en una estrella de cine, pero que poco a poco, conforme avanza la historia.. Vamos descubriendo una oscuridad dentro de ella que la consume.

Mi momento favorito de la película, es el increíble monólogo de más de diez minutos en el que Mia demuestra con todo de ella la gran maestría actoral que posee, en esta escena, te logra hipnotizar completamente mientras explora las entrañas de la psicología de este personaje, revelando las capas de su mente retorcida de una manera que deja a cualquiera sin aliento. Su actuación sin duda mereció ser reconocida, su intensidad y capacidad de transmitir emociones fuertes.. fue de las mejores cosas que tiene esta película, te hace poner mil y una caras, y eso, al momento de ver una película me encanta, para eso exactamente es que se hacen producciones de este tipo, para hacerte sentir algo.

It should be noted that the script of this film is also quite solid and coherent, exploring interesting themes such as frustrated dreams, family oppression and madness in a very intelligent way, without romanticizing any of this. The tension that builds slowly, but in an effective way, creates an intense atmosphere, that keeps us in a constant state of unease, anticipating what could happen, also, all the violence that is presented in the film, although it is graphic in some points, I didn't feel it was unnecessary... I feel that it had its exact moment, each of these scenes of violence builds or derives from a narrative purpose, managing to provoke genuine reactions in the viewer, you can feel the anguish and despair in these scenes, putting us in the skins of those victims, in a good way, of course.

Another thing that I think it is necessary to highlight, is the way to maintain coherence with the film "X". Being both films with very different tones and styles, there is a certain connection that unites them, and watching Pearl, after watching X, enriches the experience a lot. While it is true that the experience is heightened, you are not forced to watch these films together, you can enjoy it as an individual product without any problem, as it stands on its own quite well.

Cabe resaltar, que el guion de esta película también es bastante sólido y coherente, explorando temas interesantes como los sueños frustrados, la opresión familiar tan marcada, y la locura.. de una manera muy inteligente, sin romantizar nada de esto. La tensión que sé a construyendo lentamente, pero de forma corrida y efectiva, crea un ambiente intenso, que nos mantiene en un constante estado de inquietud.. anticipando que es lo que podría llegar a pasar, además, toda la violencia que se presenta en la película, aunque si bien es gráfica en algunos puntos, no la sentí innecesaria.. Siento que tuvo su momento exacto, cada una de estas escenas de violencia construye o deriva de un propósito narrativo, lográndote provocar reacciones genuinas en el espectador, se puede sentir la angustia y desesperación en estas escenas, poniéndonos en las pieles de esas víctimas, de buena manera, claro.

Otra cosa que creo necesario destacar, es la manera de mantener la coherencia con la película “X”. Siendo ambas películas con tonos y estilos muy diferentes, hay cierta conexión que las une, y ver Pearl, luego de ver X, enriquece mucho la experiencia. Aunque si es verdad que la experiencia se eleva, no estás obligado a ver estas películas juntas, puedes disfrutarla como un producto individual sin ningún problema, ya que por sí sola se defiende bastante bien.

I consider "Pearl" an exceptional film, it manages to brilliantly combine elements of current psychological horror, with movie star drama, with homage to films from several years ago... all in a quite unique and refreshing way. Its aesthetics, as I mentioned, are impeccable, it is fortunate to have an amazing actress who gives an outstanding performance, and a pretty good script that makes everything else turn in an excellent way, neither would have worked without the other, if you are a lover of psychological horror films, and love to dive into the twisted depths of characters who are pretty messed up in the head, this is your movie.

It is an experience that you will surely remember, it serves to reflect on deep themes, such as madness, with an excellent narrative. I give it a good rating. 9/10. If you want to ask yourself questions like: how far can the longing for a better life take us? How much can we endure before our mind breaks? Definitely give this movie a chance, you certainly won't regret it! See you in the next review! Take care!

Considero a “Pearl” una película excepcional, logra combinar genialmente elementos del terror psicológico actual, con el drama de estrella de cine, con el homenaje a las películas de hace varios años.. todo de una manera bastante única, y refrescante. Su estética, como les mencione, es impecable, tiene la suerte de contar con una increíble actriz que brinda una actuación sobresaliente, y un guion bastante bueno que hace que todo lo demás gire de una excelente manera, ninguna cosa hubiera funcionado sin la otra, si eres amante del cine de terror psicológico, y te encanta sumergirte en las profundidades retorcidas de personajes bastante mal de la cabeza, esta es tu película.

Es una experiencia que seguramente recordaras, sirve para reflexionar sobre temas profundos, como la locura, con una excelente narrativa. Le doy de calificación un buen.. 9/10. Si quieres hacerte preguntas como: ¿Hasta dónde puede llevarnos el anhelo de una vida mejor? ¿Cuánto podemos soportar antes de que nuestra mente se quiebre? Sin duda, dale una oportunidad a esta película, sin duda no te arrepentirás! Nos vemos en la próxima reseña! Cuídense mucho!

Todo suena muy lindo, hasta que empezamos a ver las verdaderas actitudes de Pearl a ciertas cosas. Nuestra protagonista tiene una parte muy oscura la cual termina siento muy macabra en la película. Pearl sin ningún tipo de pudor, asesina a un ganso con un rastrillo, y va directamente a dárselo de comer a un cocodrilo que tiene en un lago cercano a la casa. Entendemos que Pearl muy bien de sus facultades mentales no está, y realmente no es algo que parece preocuparle.

Pearl shamelessly kills a goose with a rake, and goes directly to feed it to a crocodile she has in a lake near the house. We understand that Pearl's mental faculties are not very good, and it's not really something that seems to bother her.

Last year Ti West was behind one of the most interesting horror films that were released "X", with Mia Goth, Kid Cudi and Jenna Ortega as protagonists, we were in front of a work that paid homage to the classics of the slasher genre such as The Massacre from Texas, at the same time offering a stinging and not-so-subtle critique of the film industry in general, starting from the filming of a pornographic movie in a country house with a couple of rather peculiar hosts.

The brilliance of the whole thing is that "Pearl" was not only an organic extension of this new cinematic universe, but also provided an opportunity to develop its themes of sexuality and perpetual pursuit of fame in a rather fresh light.

While it wasn't necessary to familiarize ourselves with the origins of X's antagonist, we appreciate that this is done so creatively, especially when today's film landscape is so cluttered with generic works.

El año pasado Ti West estuvo detrás de una las películas de terror más interesantes que se estrenaron "X", con Mia Goth, Kid Cudi y Jenna Ortega como protagonistas, estábamos frente a una obra que homenajeaba a los clásicos del género slasher como La Masacre de Texas, brindando el mismo tiempo una punzante y nada sutil critica a la industria del cine en general, partiendo desde la la filmación de una película pornográfica en una casa de Campo con un par de anfitriones bastante peculiares.

Lo que muchos no sabíamos para este entonces, es que en medio de la producción de X, West se encontraba tan fascinado con su personaje antagónico (Una señora de la tercera edad de nombre Pearl) que decidió crear a sus alrededores una suerte de precuela con la finalidad de ilustrar su historia de origen.

Lo brillante de todo el asunto es que "Pearl" no solo era una ampliación orgánica de este nuevo universo cinematográfico, sino que aparte brindaba una oportunidad para desarrollar sus temas de sexualidad y la búsqueda perpetua de la fama desde una óptica bastante fresca.

Siguiendo la tradición de esta recién fundada trilogía (Porque si, el plan es que luego de X y Pearl tengamos una tercera parte titulada Maxxine), Pearl rinde homenaje a otra corriente muy concreta del cine, alejándose del slasher ochentero y acercándose más a una visión retorcida de clásicos como The Wizard of Oz o Mary Poppins, algo evidente no solo en su estilo de dirección y aspecto visual, sino en detalles muy bien cuidados como la música o la forma en la que las voces de sus protagonistas son grabadas.

Pearl (Interpretada por Mía Goth) es una joven que pasa sus días en una granja, obsesionada con la idea de volverse una estrella y formar parte de la industria del entretenimiento cueste lo que cueste, viviendo en un ambiente extremadamente conservadora, poco a poco observamos cómo va tomando medidas más y más exageradas para conseguir su tan ansiada libertad.

A pesar de sus diferencias superficiales, es bastante sencillo establecer paralelismos entre ambos filmes, especialmente cuando se trata de analizar la forma en la que abordan el cine en general y la importancia que ha tenido la pornografía para hacerlo crecer.

Más allá de su naturaleza tan linear y simplista, estamos ante una crítica bastante amarga, que no por ello debe renunciar a ser entretenida.

Si bien no era necesario familiarizarnos con los orígenes de la antagonista de X, agradecemos que esto se haga de forma tan creativa, especialmente cuando el panorama del cine actual se encuentra tan recargado de obras genéricas.

Hace ya algunos meses tuve la oportunidad de ver la película X, un filme que aunque sigue ciertos trazos de guiones muy bien conocidos del género de terror y asesinato (slasher ), es verdad que complace con detalles en sus escenas como la ambientación, así como también, capta la atención mediante muestra de lo que se conoce como cine de explotación, una corriente en donde se juega con la moralidad y la propia repulsión de los espectadores, algo que definitivamente se sale del libreto de los que observamos películas llamadas “comunes”, ahora bien, Pearl es una precuela en donde conoceremos el pasado del que podemos llamar como el personaje más significativo y que hace desenvolver toda la trama en la película X.

Es curioso que esta precuela fuese anunciada aun antes de saber la opinión y valoración de espectadores como de la crítica especializada, dando a entender que la curiosidad de aquellos que vieron X sería irresistible para tener a Pearl en su lista películas, en ese sentido, creo que si han logrado mantener el ánimo impulsado por la primera película, ya que muchos ya han visto esta precuela, sin embargo, nos toca hacer la pregunta respectiva de ¿Vale la pena verla?, aunque las opiniones son subjetivas y cambiantes en cada individuo, como siempre les comentaré mi opinión personal al respecto.

Sinopsis:

Pearl es una joven granjera que desea convertirse en una estrella de cine, confía en su talento y nada impedirá que consiga su sueño de salir de su situación familiar, aunque amerite hacer lo impensado para perseguir sus sueños.

Análisis de la Película

Lo más notorio del filme es su estructura, si bien ya la atención es captada desde X el filme se desarrolla de otra manera, una de las características más distintivas de X es el desarrollo con una trama ligada al sexo, específicamente al entretenimiento para adultos de los 80´s, si bien no es un filme muy explicativo o que escenas más allá de lo permitido, es una característica que impulsa la trama al desarrollo de los acontecimientos. Desde ese enfoque comenzamos a conocer a los personajes, incluyendo a Pearl, aquella anciana que para bien o para mal recordaremos en X.

Aunque sabemos como termina Pearl, deseamos conocer su pasado, las causas de sus pensamientos y formar un perfil psicológico, a pesar de evidentemente no ser especialistas en el asunto, en este caso se desvincula la característica principal de X (sexualidad) para pasar a la familiar (Pearl), en donde también hay mucha tela que cortar y en donde se percibe un buen potencial en la historia, sin embargo, esta se desarrolla dejando algunos tragos amargos en el camino, al menos en mi caso, pienso que el filme trasmite que pudo ser desarrollado de una mejor manera o bien explotar más esta historia.

Conocemos esa joven obsesionada con el éxito y con el hecho de salir de la granja familiar, una joven que comienza a construir su historia lastrando un perfil psicológico que gradualmente se convierte en toda una película de miedo, si bien es un concepto funcional, cae en las tantas repeticiones de muchas películas saltándose aquellas características que le permiten una mejor atención sobre sus espectadores.

Sangre y Muerte

En mi opinión, el guion debió aprovechar el impulso de X y desarrollar muertes o al menos, mejor elaboradas e impactantes (más allá de los vínculos sociales), este es un aspecto que de cierta manera me decepcionó a pesar de que aunque no soy de los que piensa que una buena película debe llevar mucha muerte o sangre a cuestas como tantas producciones en el subgénero de slasher, si bien Ti West hace una introducción amplia y decente alrededor del personaje principal, siento que debió tener algo más de acción. Aunque Pearl goza de buenos momentos en su trama, termino sintiendo que se queda corta tanto en historia como en esa esencia de terror que la caracterizó desde X.

Un Capítulo en este Universo

El filme nos muestra a Pearl y como se comienza a convertir en el personaje que todos sabemos que será, sin embargo, el filme se coloca como en una especie de introducción, como si faltara ampliar este universo, ya que la evolución de Pearl en esta película con ciertas curiosidades abiertas, este aspecto es notorio si lo observamos desde un punto de vista crítico sobre la historia, puesto que no explota todo su potencial en pantalla, todo lo contrario, se resguarda en el levantamiento del personaje como si de alguna introducción se tratara para algo más siniestro. Al momento de esta redacción desconozco si entre los planes de los productores existe la posibilidad de ver a Pearl nuevamente, pero con este filme parece que esa posibilidad queda abierta, ya que se puede explotar de mejor manera al personaje, al menos esa es mi humilde opinión.

Me gustó la ambientación, es un punto favorable de esta película, a pesar de que por ejemplo la granja está igual que años después en la película X, pero hay detalles interesantes en la ambientación y en la fotografía del filme que me parecen de buena calidad.

Otro aspecto positivo es la actuación de Mia Goth, la que interpreta a este muy buen personaje de Pearl, dentro de un drama que se convierte posteriormente en una mezcla terrorífica, sus actuaciones es muy buena, una evolución dinámica en un entorno familiar/social que desemboca en la locura, desde X me había gustado la participación de esta actriz y vuelve a ser el foco de atención en este filme.

¿X o Pearl?

Entre estas dos producciones me quedo con X, aunque Pearl no me parece un fracaso desde mi humilde punto de vista, X posee características más llamativas como película de terror que Pearl, aunque eso es opinión de cada quien.

¿La recomiendo?

No es un filme de terror comercial como muchos podrían pensar que es, sin embargo, es una producción que funciona, ya que nos presenta a lo que a mi parecer es un muy buen personaje, el contexto en donde se va cocinando una psicópata realmente interesante, la recomiendo.

Film Analysis

The most notorious of the film is its structure, although the attention is already captured from X the film develops in another way, one of the most distinctive features of X is the development with a plot linked to sex, specifically adult entertainment of the 80's, although it is not a very explanatory film or scenes beyond what is allowed, it is a feature that drives the plot to the development of events. From that approach we begin to get to know the characters, including Pearl, that old woman we will remember in X for better or worse.

Although we know how Pearl ends, we want to know her past, the causes of her thoughts and form a psychological profile, despite obviously not being specialists in the matter, in this case the main characteristic of X (sexuality) is disassociated to move to the family (Pearl), where there is also much to cut and where a good potential is perceived in the story, however, this develops leaving some bitter pills on the way, at least in my case, I think the film transmits that it could have been developed in a better way or exploit more this story.

We meet this young woman obsessed with success and with leaving the family farm, a young woman who begins to build her story by building a psychological profile that gradually turns into a whole scary movie, although it is a functional concept, it falls into the many repetitions of many films, skipping those characteristics that allow a better attention to its viewers.

Blood and Death

In my opinion, the script should have taken advantage of the momentum of X and developed deaths or at least, better elaborated and shocking ones (beyond the social links), this is an aspect that in a way disappointed me even though I am not one of those who think that a good film should carry a lot of death or blood on its back like so many productions in the slasher subgenre, although Ti West makes a wide and decent introduction around the main character, I feel that it should have had some more action. Although Pearl enjoys some good moments in its plot, I end up feeling that it falls short both in story and in that horror essence that characterised it from X.

A Chapter in this Universe

The film shows us Pearl and how she begins to become the character we all know she will be, however, the film is placed as a kind of introduction, as if it were missing to expand this universe, as the evolution of Pearl in this film with certain curiosities open, this aspect is notorious if we look at it from a critical point of view on the story, since it does not exploit its full potential on screen, on the contrary, is sheltered in the rise of the character as if it were an introduction to something more sinister. At the time of this writing I don't know if the producers' plans include the possibility of seeing Pearl again, but with this film it seems that possibility is open, as the character can be better exploited, at least that's my humble opinion.

I liked the setting, it is a favourable point of this film, although for example the farm is the same as years later in the film X, but there are interesting details in the setting and photography of the film that seem to me of good quality.

Another positive aspect is the performance of Mia Goth, who plays this very good character of Pearl, within a drama that later becomes a terrifying mixture, her performances are very good, a dynamic evolution in a family/social environment that leads to madness, since X I had liked the participation of this actress and she is again the focus of attention in this film.

X or Pearl?

Between these two productions I choose X, although Pearl is not a failure in my humble point of view, X has more striking features as a horror film than Pearl, although that is everyone's opinion.

Do I recommend it?

It is not a commercial horror film as many might think it is, however, it is a production that works, as it introduces us to what in my opinion is a very good character, the context in which a really interesting psychopath is cooking, I recommend it.

Pearl is a movie I call a horror in disguise. Starting from the beginning of the movie, it didn't give me a hint of gore and bloody scenes to come. This movie is not like the horror films you have seen before, this is different. I will regard Pearl as a colorful horror movie which I will explain later below in the post.

Pearl is a psychological slasher film directed by Ti West, released in September 2022, and the prequel to the movie X (2022), the second installment in the X film series. I didn't know of this until @jcrodriguez told me. This movie was co-written by Mia Goth and Ti West and is set during the time of the influenza pandemic and World War 1 in 1918, in Texas. It starred Mia Goth, Tandi Wright, Matthew Sunderland, David Corenswet, and Emma Jenkins-Purro. It revolves around a young woman who dreams of becoming a star but is held back on a farm owned by her parents.

The movie started with Pearl living with her parents on a farm to help take care of her father who is sick and paralyzed while her husband, Howard was overseas, serving in World War 1. As Pearl kept longing to achieve her dream of becoming a movie Star, her mother Ruth, became harsh on her and nagged her to set her priorities straight. Ruth forces Pearl to take care of and clean up her father. Along the way, Pearl sees a local cinema and aspires to be a chorus girl and dancer but Ruth disapproves.

Afterward, Pearl began to show signs of mental deterioration as she killed a goose on the farm and began to abuse her paralyzed father. On a fateful day, Pearl was sent on an errand to get drugs for her father. On her way back she meets a projectionist who likes her. After her brief conversation with the projectionist, she went back home after she had danced with a scarecrow. Ruth noticed that the change from the money she gave Pearl earlier wasn't complete, she criticized her for it.

The next day, Misty, Pearl's sister-in-law visits them with her mother bringing food along. Misty informs Pearl about a dance audition that was coming up soon. Pearl sees it as a way for her to escape her circumstance in the farm. At night she sneaks out to see the projectionist where she confessed that she wished her family would just die. He encourages her to follow her dream. The next day during dinner Ruth discovered a program advertisement from Pearl's room, confronted her about it and they both got into a heated argument. From there that is where the horror of the movie began.

My Opinion About The Movie And Rating

I haven't seen X which was released before Pearl but I think this movie is one of the unique horror movies that will be talked about for a long time. This movie got a lot of positive reviews because of Mia Goth. As she fantasized to be a star in the plot of the movie, she did so as an actor in the movie. Mia's performance in this movie was off the hook. She was so into her role that one couldn't tell the difference between the real Mai and the fictional Pearl. I applaud her for her fantastic scriptwriting and acting. Also, I hope she gets the chance to be nominated for a big award because she deserves it and I bet afterward, her career in the filming industry is set for a big bang.

My favorite scene of this movie was towards the tail end when she did her last kill, followed by 7 mins of a monologue of Pearl expressing herself. I feel that scene was the most difficult because it takes so much dedication to actually pull that off and to behave like someone who has been insane for a while. Mia Goth pulled it off perfectly well and it was mesmerizing to watch.

Let's talk about the setting of this movie. Like I said earlier at the beginning of this post, Pearl is a colorful horror film. I said that because 90 percent of the scenes in the movie were shot during daylight. Every horrific scene was shot during daylight, with bright colors and bright sceneries. The nighttime scenes of this movie were minimal which just gives the audience a first-hand feel of how brutal accidents happen in daylight. Also, I love the fact that this movie was set during the influenza pandemic which correlates and is parallel with our own timeline. That was brilliant.

Rating this movie, I will give it 4.5 stars. I enjoyed this movie and how Mia Goth made every scene in this movie real and unique. Since I haven't watched X (2022), I will be watching it this week. I don't know how I missed the film but I am seeing it asap! Pearl is a unique and colorful psychological slasher film that's my opinion on this movie.

After so much waiting, I finally got to see the prequel to 'X', which has left me impressed as a tribute to the slashers of the time. 'Pearl', manages to materialize the attractive aspect of 'X' with that beautiful and irresistible look.

The melancholy, the horror, the pain, the laughter, it all becomes a spectacle offered by its director's deranged character, and he carefully carries the sequence of his unraveling without turning it into an exaggerated icon.

Thanks to @jauregui98 I was finally able to find this film, I watched it yesterday afternoon in one sitting, I couldn't contain the craving, so I replayed it once I had it before it got any later. This film got more laughs out of me, but not because it's funny or because the main character is a flash of chaotic emotions, but because of the wonderful performance of its leading lady, who, if she doesn't get the Oscar, at least get her nominated.

Después de tanta espera, por fin pude ver la precuela de ‘X’, la cual me ha dejado impresionado como un homenaje a los slashers de la época. ‘Pearl’, consigue materializar el aspecto atractivo de ‘X’ con esa apariencia hermosa e irresistible.

La melancolía, el horror, el dolor, las risas, todo se convierte en un espectáculo que ofrece el personaje trastornado de su director, y que lleva cuidadosamente la secuencia de su desenvolvimiento sin convertirlo en un ícono exagerado.

Gracias a @jauregui98 pude encontrar finalmente esta película, la vi ayer en la tarde de una vez, no podía contener las ansias, así que la reproduje una vez que la tuve antes de que se hiciera más tarde. Este filme me sacó más risas, pero no porque sea graciosa o porque el personaje principal sea un destello de emociones caóticas, sino por la maravillosa interpretación de su protagonista, que, si no se lleva el Oscar, por lo menos que quede nominada.

Mia Goth needs no introduction, as her role as Pearl, both in 'X' and in this film, has been truly admirable, as the aspects of the character are still present, even later in her successor in X: Maxine, all with that same factor that they mention so much in both films.

Alongside Mia, we have David Corenswet as the projectionist, Tandi Wright as Ruth, Matthew Sunderland as Pearl's father, Emma Jenkins-Purro as Mitsy and although he almost didn't appear in the film, we have last but not least, Alistair Sewell as Howard.

This is another film produced and distributed by A24, with a running time of 101 minutes and released in US theaters on September 16 this year. It has had quite a lot of fame at the 'Sitges' festival in Spain, considering it one of the best horror films exhibited at the event.

Ti West vuelve con este banquete de locura y sangre, donde nos ofrece uno de los personajes mejor construidos del mundo de terror slasher, interpretado por una excelentísima Mia Goth, la cual lleva la batuta en esta historia. Un guion espectacular creado por el director, junto a su queridísima actriz protagonista, quien, sino se ha llevado los aplausos dentro filme, lo hace fuera de este con todos los que pertenecemos a ese público cautivado.

Los colores saturados y los excelentes ángulos de escenas, los cuales ya habíamos presenciado en ‘X’, dándole ese aspecto de película de época, fueron realizados por Eliot Rockett, y junto a este espléndido trabajo, en la parte de la música, estuvieron Tyler Bates y Tim Williams, los cuales otorgaron su gran toque para darle más definición y representación al filme.

Mia Goth no necesita presentación, pues su papel como Pearl, tanto en ‘X’ como en este filme, ha sido verdaderamente admirable, pues los aspectos del personaje se mantienen presentes, incluso posteriormente en su sucesora de X: Maxine, todas con ese mismo factor que tanto mencionan en ambos filmes.

Plot and opinion
Now let's get to the good stuff: the plot. As I mentioned before, Pearl, is the prequel to X, focusing solely on the youth of the psychopathic antagonist. On that same farm, but in 1918, young Pearl fantasizes about being a star; one of those famous French movie dancers. However, achieving her dream will be difficult, as she is subjected to the authority of her stern mother, who leaves her daughter with all the responsibility of caring for her father, a man who was paralyzed by the consequences of the Spanish flu that was raging at the time.

Pearl dreams of leaving the farm, her thoughts are fantasies that influence her descent into madness. She knows something is wrong with her, and is driven by these dark feelings, which are contrasted with her innocent desire to be a star.

The film shows us step by step and unhurriedly, as it should be, the most salient aspects of Pearl's dark personality. She is a naive girl, with a lot of bitterness, hatred that she vents on the poor little farm animals.

Her mother, who is an unhappy despot, and who wants her daughter to also be a wretched victim of the heavy life she leads, influences Pearl's demented personality, asserting her wickedness with the things she does on the sly, feeding her pet female crocodile, which she has named after a famous silent film actress: Theda Bara.

The film is a fabulous and incandescent theater of melodrama and alienation, where we see how it awakens all the hatred that Pearl carries inside, wanting to leave her parents' farm to become a famous movie dancer.

The truth is that it is a delight from beginning to end, although I will honestly say that it was not what I expected, I think my expectations were too high in that I thought it would be a much more violent and bloody film; in which I was going to find every ten minutes one death after another and in a different and imaginable way, but there was no need for that.

Mia Goth's performance was as beautiful as impeccable, preparing a character in a written way is not the same as acting it in detail, it requires an excellent understanding of what you want to express the character; of what the interpreter really wants to warn us, understand and make it clear, the aspects and attitudes of that character. If an actor fails to develop all these elements, then the character will be a failure.

In this case, Mia Goth has given us a well-constructed character, with a story that explains why her protagonist is like that, remember that psychopaths are not born, they are formed as they grow up and in the environment in which they develop. The psychological aspects inherited by genetics also have an influence, most likely Pearl, has taken these traits from her mother, because that woman no doubt was as psychopathic as she was, but at a more 'controlled' level.

Everything is a whirlwind, a storm, we can see how Pearl's evil is flowing rapidly destroying everything living around her. Screams and lots of blood, the announced trident to pick up the hay used to stab the face of the victims, and the axe to cut wood used this time to cut human limbs, wearing a beautiful dress as red as blood, as it appears in one of its covers.

The script is very well done, especially that monologue in the last act of the film, which exposes all those dark feelings of rage, frustration and melancholy. I couldn't stop paying attention to every word and phrase he emitted to finish understanding the character; it was the cherry that finished decorating this huge cake of blood. And that ending, with that face that showed a mask of happiness that dissolved with an insane pain, made me laugh and also stole all my attention until it finally disappeared.

Trama y opinión
Ahora vamos con lo bueno: la trama. Como he mencionado antes, Pearl, es la precuela de X, centrado únicamente en la juventud de la psicópata antagonista. En esa misma granja, pero en 1918, la joven Pearl fantasea con ser una estrella; una de esas famosas bailarinas de películas francesas. Sin embargo, alcanzar su sueño será difícil, ya que se encuentra sometida bajo la autoridad de su severa madre, quien deja recaer en su hija toda la responsabilidad de cuidar a su padre; un hombre que quedó paralítico por las consecuencias de la gripe española que azotaba a esa época.

Pearl, sueña con irse fuera de la granja, sus pensamientos son fantasías que influyen en su descenso a la locura. Ella sabe que algo está mal en ella, y se deja llevar por esos oscuros sentimientos, los cuales se contrastan con su deseo inocente de ser una estrella.

La película nos muestra paso a paso y sin prisa, como debe de ser, los aspectos más resaltantes en la oscura personalidad de Pearl. Ella es una chica ingenua, con mucho sentimiento de rencor, odio que desahoga en los pobres y pequeños animales de la granja.

Su madre, que es un déspota infeliz, y que quiere que su hija también sea una desdichada víctima de la pesada vida que lleva, influye en la personalidad demente de Pearl, aseverando su maldad con las cosas que hace a escondidas, alimentando a su cocodrilo hembra mascota, la cual ha bautizado con el nombre de una famosa actriz del cine mudo: Theda Bara.

La película es un fabuloso e incandescente teatro de melodrama y enajenación, donde vemos como despierta todo ese odio que Pearl lleva por dentro, queriendo abandonar la granja de sus padres para convertirse en una famosa bailarina de cine.

La verdad que es un deleite de principio a fin, aunque sinceramente diré que no era lo que esperaba, creo que mis expectativas eran demasiado altas en cuanto a que pensé que sería una película mucho más violenta y sanguinaria; en la que iba a encontrar cada diez minutos una muerte tras otra y de manera distinta e imaginable, pero no hizo falta necesidad de eso.

La actuación de Mia Goth fue tan bella como impecable, preparar un personaje de manera escrita no es lo mismo que actuarlo con detalle, se requiere de una excelente comprensión de lo que se quiere expresar del personaje; de lo que de verdad el intérprete desea advertirnos, entendamos y dejarnos claro, las aspectos y actitudes de ese personaje. Si un actor no logra desenvolver todos esos elementos, entonces el personaje será un fracaso.

En este caso, Mia Goth nos ha dado un personaje bien construido, con una historia que explica por qué su protagonista es así, recordemos que los psicópatas no nacen, se van formando a medida que van creciendo y en el entorno en el que se van desenvolviendo. También influyen los aspectos psicológicos heredados por la genética, lo más probable es que Pearl, haya sacado estos rasgos de su madre, pues esa mujer no dudo que fuese tan psicópata como ella, pero a un nivel más ‘controlado’.

Todo es un remolino, una tempestad, podremos ver como la maldad de Pearl va fluyendo rápidamente destruyendo todo lo viviente a su alrededor. Gritos y mucha sangre, el anunciado tridente para recoger el heno usado para apuñalar el rostro de las víctimas, y el hacha para cortar madera usada esta vez para cortar extremidades humanas, portando un hermoso vestido rojo como la sangre, tal y como aparece en una de sus portadas.

El guion está muy bien hecho, especialmente ese monólogo en el último acto de la película, el cual expone todos esos sentimientos oscuros de rabia, frustración y melancolía. No podía dejar de estar atento a cada palabra y frase que emitía para terminar de entender al personaje; fue la cereza que terminó de decorar este enorme pastel de sangre. Y ese final, con ese rostro que demostraba una máscara de felicidad que se disolvía con un dolor demente, me sacó una risa y además se robó toda mi atención hasta que finalmente desapareció.

Conclusions
As a writer of the horror genre, I love to create characters with internal conflicts, melodramatic and with an exaggerated portion of explosive personality. With 'Pearl', I identified with these aspects to create a character in this sub-genre.

Excellent acting quality, good sequencing of the narrative arc, covering all the detailed nuances that were mentioned in 'X', for example, now I know why Pearl hates blondes.

Strong drama and music, danced together in this powerful performance, with bright saturated sets and tones, making the film have that look of the era in which it is set.

No wonder Martin Scorsese himself went crazy for this film, because its originality lies not only in the way the descent into madness is exposed, but also the colors, costumes and dances, which entertained me so much throughout the film. I'm waiting for the next film, which I read will be released next year, we'll have to wait.

Conclusiones
Como escritor del género de terror, me encanta crear personajes con conflictos internos, melodramáticos y con una porción exagerada de personalidad explosiva. Con ‘Pearl’, me identifiqué con estos aspectos para crear un personaje de este subgénero.

Una excelente calidad actoral, una buena secuencia del arco narrativo, cubriendo todos los matices detallados que se mencionaron en ‘X’, por ejemplo, ahora ya sé porque Pearl odia a las rubias.

Fuerte drama y la música, danzaron juntos en esta poderosa interpretación, con escenografías y tonos saturados y brillantes, que hacen que la película tenga ese aspecto de la época en la que está ambientada.

No es de extrañar que el propio Martin Scorsese se volviera loco por esta película, pues su originalidad no solo radica en la manera en cómo está expuesto el descenso a la locura, sino también los colores, vestuarios y bailes, que tanto me entretuvieron a lo largo del filme. Espero la siguiente película, la cual según leí se estrenará el año que viene, habrá que esperar.

At last, the wait is over and Pearl is on our screens. The story behind Pearl, the old woman who tormented and traumatized us in X, well yes, Pearl is a prequel that tells us the story of Pearl, her beginnings, that gives us why she is like that, that justifies why a wrinkled old woman who can barely walk is a murderer and worshipper of god and everything pure in this world.

This is a delightful film that is worthy of being part of X, the only thing I don't like is that I have to wait until next year for the third film belonging to this trilogy, hopefully, it will be at the beginning of the year and we won't have to wait much, because if X is good, Pearl is better, at least for me, then I can only imagine that the third film, which will take place after the events of X, will be exponentially better, we can only wait for the story that Ti West has prepared to give us.

Al fin la espera llegó a su fin y Pearl está en nuestras pantallas. La historia detrás de Pearl, la vieja que nos atormentó y traumó en X, pues sí, Pearl es una precuela que nos cuenta la historia de Pearl, de sus inicios, que nos da el por qué ella es así, que justifica el por qué una vieja arrugada y que apenas puede caminar es una asesina adoradora de dios y de todo lo que es puro en este mundo.

Esta es una delicia de película que es digna de se parte de X, lo único que no me gusta es que tengo que esperar al año que viene a que salga la tercera película perteneciente a esta trilogía, ojalá sea a principios de año y no tengamos que esperar mucho, porque si es X es buena, Pearl es mejor, al menos para mí, entonces solo puedo llegar a imaginar que la tercera película, que tendrá lugar después de los eventos de X, será exponencialmente mejor, solo nos queda esperar por esa historia que Ti West tiene preparada para darnos.

Pearl is crazy, at least she is a sociopath, maybe a psychopath, but she is crazy, she is crazy, and that is made very clear to us from the beginning of the movie, which is the video I left at the end, instead of a trailer, I left the beginning, but that's what I'm talking about at the end. From the beginning, they make it clear to us that there are already many things that are not right with Pearl, and we don't know how to feel about it, because while the absence of sound doesn't mean that evil prevails, there is evil in her, but we don't know what kind of evil, it's just bad things that Pearl was somehow forced to do, and while that doesn't justify her doing them, it is understood that she doesn't do them for pleasure or because she is provoked to do them, but rather because all the things happened in a certain way and the ending they had was the one we got just because Pearl is the way she is and that won't change; yes, it's confusing, but I hope you understand.

There is one thing they make very clear to us and that is that Pearl has always been like that, it's not that from one day to the next she started to be like that, it's not that because of her mother she became a murderer, no. One of the things that are very necessary for Pearl's story and that they did very well in the film is the historical context that they gave us because it was set in 1917, I think that is the year they put in the film, and if it is not that year, forgive me, but it is in that decade where they tell us Pearl's story, and they were going through a bad time, I almost came to think that it was set in the present day with people wearing masks, avoiding leaving the house as much as possible, being in complete isolation, with economic problems, at least most of them, and with that mysterious disease that everyone was afraid of contracting, that's why I say, I almost feel at home watching the movie. With all that said, there is a moment, well, many, where Pearl questions her sanity and says she believes there is something very wrong with her, and she believes it was with the isolation that something wrong came up, that it came to light, that it stopped being dormant and woke up to descend everything, and I believe her, crazy or not, isolation can bring out the worst in people, so I don't blame her for her starting to kill people.

Pearl está loca, mínimo es sociópata, quizás una psicópata, pero de que está loca, está loca, y eso nos lo dejan muy claro desde el inicio de la película, que es el video que les dejé al final, en vez de un trailer, les dejé el inicio, pero de eso hablo al final. Desde el inicio nos dejan claro que ya existen muchas cosas que no están bien con Pearl, y no sabemos cómo sentirnos al respecto, porque si bien la ausencia del bien no significa que prevalezca el mal, sí hay maldad en ella, pero no sabemos qué tipo de maldad, son solo cosas malas que Pearl se vio en cierta forma forzada a realizar, y si bien eso no justifica que las haga, se entiende que no las hace por placer o porque le provoca hacerlas, si no más bien porque todas las cosas sucedieron en cierta forma y el final que tuvieron fue el que obtuvimos solo porque Pearl es como es y eso no cambiará; sí, es confuso, pero espero que lo entiendan.

Hay algo que nos dejan muy claro y es que Pearl siempre ha sido así, no es que de un día para otro comenzó a serlo, no es que a causa de su madre se convirtió en una asesina, no. Una de las cosas muy necesarias en la historia de Pearl y que hicieron muy bien en la película es el contexto histórico que nos dieron, pues está ambientada en los 1917, creo que es el año que pusieron en la película, y si no es ese año, pues me perdonan, pero es en esa década donde nos cuentan la historia de Pearl, y estaban pasando por un mal momento, casi llego a pensar que estaba ambientada en la actualidad con la gente usando tapabocas, evitando salir de casa lo más posible, estando en aislamiento por completo, con problemas económicos, al menos la mayoría, y con esa enfermedad misteriosa que todo el mundo tenía miedo de contraer, por eso digo, casi me siento en casa viendo la película. Con todo eso dicho, hay un momento, bueno, muchos, donde Pearl cuestiona su cordura y dice que cree que hay algo muy mal con ella, y cree que fue con el aislamiento que ese algo malo surgió, que salió a la luz, que dejó de estar dormido y despertó para desosdenar todo, y le creo, esté loca o no, el aislamiento puede sacar lo peor de las personas, así que no le hecho la culpa por que haya comenzado a matar gente.

I hated Pearl's mom, I hate her, she is that kind of person who uses difficult personal experiences to justify being a shitty person, I mean, they are giving you a cooked pig, are you going to despise it and let it rot in front of your front door, I hated her, with a mother like that any person becomes a murderer, and even more considering she is the only person you can interact with because of the isolation, no, how horrible.

I don't know how to feel about Pearl's father, I mean, he exists and doesn't exist at the same time, as Gora would say, it's like having grandma, but having her dead, I have to admit that her non-existence is a double-edged sword, because although we have that she is in a situation where she needs help, that help is practically only from Pearl, and that is an obligation that she shouldn't have, plus the mom only makes things worse and she doesn't mind doing it, I just hate her.

Odié a la mamá de Pearl, la detesto, es ese tipo de persona que usa las experiencias personales difíciles para justificar el hecho de ser una mierda de persona, o sea, te están regalando un cerdo cocinado, ¿de verdad lo vas a despreciar y vas a dejar que se pudra al frente de la puerta de tu casa?, la odié, con una madre así cualquier persona se convierte en asesina, y más aún teniendo en cuenta que es la única persona con la que puedes interactuar a causa del aislamiento, no, qué horrible.

No sé cómo sentirme con respecto al padre de Pearl, o sea, existe y no existe a la vez, como diría Gora, es como tener a la abuela, pero tenerla muerta, tengo igual que admitir que su inexistencia es un arma de doble filo, porque si bien tenemos que está en una situación donde necesita ayuda, esa ayuda la recibe practicamente solo de Pearl, y esa es una obligación que ella no debería tener, además de que la mamá solo empeora las cosas y no le importa hacerlo, es que la odio.

I know this is a horror movie, and it is, but I laughed like you have no idea, every time Pearl lost what little sanity she had I ended up laughing out loud, I enjoyed too much each of the outbursts of rage, pride, and selfishness that Pearl has as if she were a 4-year-old girl. Mia's acting is one of the most incredible things, you believe everything she gives us, and her ability to make us feel everything she wants is admirable, that smile, fuck, it almost made me cry, it was horrible, I love her.

It's not a trailer, if not the beginning of the movie what I leave you here, it's just a few minutes, but those minutes are more than enough to make you love the movie, I loved it since it started, and I have still love it, I want a series with infinite seasons about Pearl's life, I want to see her keep doing crazy things and committing murders during all her life, please Ti, make it happen. One last thing I will add is that the musicalization is perfect, and the goose did not deserve that ending.

Sé que esta es una película de terror, y lo es, pero yo me reí como no tienen idea, cada vez que Pearl perdía la poca cordura que tenía yo terminaba riendo a carcajadas, me disfruté demasiado cada uno de los arrebatos de rabia, orgullo y egoísmo que Pearl tiene como si fuera una niña de 4 años. La actuación de Mia es de las cosas más increíbles, se le cree todo lo que nos da, su capacidad para hacernos sentir todo lo que ella quiere es admirable, esa sonrisa, joder, casi me hace llorar, fue horrible, la amo.

No es un trailer, si no el inicio de la película lo que les dejo aquí, son apenas unos minutos, pero esos minutos son más que suficientes para hacer que ames la película, yo la amé desde que comenzó, y la sigo amando, quiero una serie con temporadas infinitas sobre la vida de Pearl, quiero verla seguir haciendo locuras y cometiendo asesinatos durante toda su vida, por favor, Ti, hazlo realidad. Una última cosa que agregaré es que la musicalización es perfecta, y que el ganso no se merecía ese final.
