I went to a friend's place yesterday, and while talking, she mentioned this movie, asking me if I've watched it yet since she knew I'm a Korean movie lover, and most of the movies she'd talk to me about or recommend for me are those I've watched, so she was surprised when I told her no. Immediately, she put on her laptop and asked that I watch it while she sorted her laundry.
Right from the onset I knew it would be a crime related movie. Just that I wasn't expecting it to be this kind of messy. The movie centers around two ladies, Mi-Seon and Do-Kyung, who have been very close friends for a long while. Both of them are kind of into shady businesses and just trying to survive in a world where you just have to.
Later on I got to know that both of them were more or less like sisters. It was the mother of one of them who took the other one in. Also, their mom gave birth to her own daughter when she was just fifteen years of age. It will also interest you to know that their mom is also into their type of work. One thing led to another, and they lost their money too, all to the scam, I mean, the sisters. While trying to find a way out and how to get their money back, they found out about hidden money and gold, which they decided to take a risk on. The hidden money was exactly the same amount of money that they got scammed out of.
I would like to add that I admire their friendship so much. Not as if they didn't have their differences; they did. Even still, they were best of friends, and you can tell that they've been through whatever together and always had each other's back. They finally made a deal with one of their bosses to get the money and all but later decided against it. They went alone to get the money. It was when they were digging that they found not just the money but also gold.
The guy felt betrayed; he came for them, and the sisters planned within themselves to hand over the money to him while they held on to the gold since he knew nothing about the gold. That did go smoothly until the actual owner knew he had been robbed and began to look for them. That was when the sisters also found their way to their mom so she could help them out since she knew people and had been in the game for a long time.
It is a very interesting movie. I love the idea behind the movie so much, and I'm sure the script was okay to some extent too, just that some of the characters used didn't do so well to execute their job. Some acted too sluggishly, some didn't put in the effort, while just some didn't appear as I would love them to.
Project Y is a good movie, though. It shows how that you can win something and at the same time lose something along the way. It is one you can definitely give a watch. Just that, like every other movie, they had their own shortcomings too.
