I greet you again to bring you my review and opinion of the anime "Ousama Ranking", one that I've been following for a few weeks and that culminated a few days ago, which attracted and drew looks with its characteristic style, managing to move those who stayed from the beginning and attract many who ignored it. Is it as underrated as they say? Is it the hidden gem of the season? Let's find out below.

Les saludo nuevamente para traerles mi reseña y opinión del anime “Ousama Ranking”, uno que he seguido desde hace algunas semanas y que culminó hace unos días, el cual atrajo y apartó miradas con su estilo tan característico, logrando conmover a los que se quedaron desde el principio, y atraer a muchos que lo ignoraron. ¿Será tan infravalorado como dicen? ¿Es la joya oculta de la temporada? Ousama Ranking follows the story of Prince Boji, a small, weak, and deaf boy, who has the goal of becoming king, even despite all the weaknesses he possesses, no matter how much mockery he receives and comments from people who do not believe in him.
Fortunately, he meets a young survivor of the shadow clan named "Kage", who after meeting Boji and the purity of his heart, becomes fond of him, becomes his friend, and decides to support him and accompany him on his way to become the best king of all, overcoming all adversities, betrayals, conspiracies, and fights that seemed impossible in the process.
Ousama Ranking sigue la historia del príncipe Boji, un niño pequeño, débil, y sordo, que tiene el objetivo de convertirse en rey, aún pese a todas las debilidades que éste posee, sin importar la cantidad de burlas que reciba y comentarios de personas que no creen en él.
Por fortuna encuentra a un joven sobreviviente del clan sombra llamado “Kage”, quien luego de conocer a Boji y la pureza de su corazón le agarra cariño, se vuelve su amigo, y decide apoyarlo y acompañarlo en su camino para volverse el mejor rey de todos, superando todas las adversidades, traiciones, conspiraciones, y combates que parecían imposibles en el proceso.
Chapter 23
The plot maintains a steady pace and never feels forced, each time it advanced you were introduced to more characters that work perfectly both individually and in conjunction with each other, so that most established two paths, that of the central story (present) and in which they unraveled all the mysteries and events that explain the why of various things, maintaining a way of spinning all the events and the stories of the characters in which manages to get you into the whole context before you realize, which I think is something fantastic.
That leads me to mention the fact of "everything has a why", something that is repeated for both the characters and the world, as almost nothing happens randomly, there is a story behind the story, and that gives us perspective, something that is too valuable in this kind of works, as it allows us to know more about what I'm going to start calling as a "whole", all actions have consequences in the world and the characters, such actions produce a series of decisions that left us where we are standing today and keeping that is something vital.
La trama mantiene un ritmo constante y nunca se siente forzado, cada vez que avanzaba te presentaban a más personajes que funcionan perfectamente tanto de manera individual como en conjunto con los demás, de manera que la mayoría establecían dos caminos, el de la historia central (presente) y en el que desenvolvían todos los misterios y sucesos que explican el por qué de varias cosas, manteniendo una forma de hilar todos los acontecimientos y las historias de los personajes en la que logra adentrarte en todo el contexto antes de que te des cuenta, lo cual me parece algo fantástico.
Eso me lleva a mencionar el hecho de “todo tiene un por qué”, algo que se repite tanto para los personajes como para el mundo, pues casi nada sucede al azar, hay una historia detrás de la historia, y eso nos brinda perspectiva, algo que es demasiado valioso en este tipo de obras, pues nos permite conocer más acerca de lo que voy a empezar a llamar como un “todo”, todas las acciones tienen consecuencias en el mundo y en los personajes, tales acciones producen una serie de decisiones que nos dejaron donde hoy estamos de pie, y el mantener eso es algo vital.
Chapter 8
Simplifying the above with an example: there is a long stretch between evangelizing a character with solid foundations that are part of the character's approach and context and evangelizing it with script power by rewriting all of the above.
Mind you, it's not perfect, I have some problems with the resolution of the conflict at the end of the anime, and don't get me wrong, I don't mind happy endings at all it's very well done taking into account the tone of the show, but the fact that they forgive a character who tried and did several bad things just because she had a tragic past doesn't justify her being exonerated of all guilt, it just gives a motive to her actions, and you can well feel sorry for her and understand her because the construction of the character is very well done (we'll get to that later), but it's one thing to forgive and make her pay for her actions through punishment or commission (as Despa's great one did) and another to forgive and pretend as if nothing had happened like "relax, we'll pretend you didn't try to wipe out an entire kingdom, now we'll be pals", or at least that's what I think.
Simplificando lo anterior con un ejemplo: Hay un largo tramo entre evangelizar un personaje con bases sólidas que son parte del planteamiento y contexto del personaje, y el evangelizarlo con el poder de guión reescribiendo todo lo anterior.
Eso sí, no es perfecta, tengo algunos problemas con la resolución del conflicto al final del anime, y no me malentiendan, no me molestan los finales felices en lo absoluto, de hecho está muy bien hecho tomando en cuenta el tono de la obra, pero el hecho de que perdonen a un personaje que intentó e hizo varias cosas malas sólo por haber tenido un pasado trágico no justifica el que esté exonerada de toda culpa, sólo le da un motivo a su accionar, y bien puedes sentir pena por ella y entenderla, porque la construcción del personaje está muy bien hecha (después vamos a eso), pero una cosa es perdonar y hacer que pague por sus acciones a través de un castigo o encargo (como hizo el grande de Despa) y otra perdonar y hacer como si nada hubiera pasado en plan “tranqui, haremos como si no hubieras intentado acabar con todo un reino, ahora seremos panas”, o al menos es lo que opino.*
Chapter 23
The characters of Ousama Ranking are another of the central pillars of this anime, from the premise, story, development, and charisma of each one, everything is very well worked. I don't mean that they have the depth of a seinen character, but that they understand the layers of personality that a person can present because characteristics and personality are not synonymous. A great example of this is Queen Hilling, a character that at first is presented as the archetype of the frivolous queen who only thinks of status as part of royalty, and there may be dozens of characters who base their entire personality on that archetype, but this is not the case with Hilling, as we can see her like a queen, as a mother, and as a person who cares about her own, and each of these facets are what build the character's personality and what makes her distinguishable from others.
Los personajes de Ousama Ranking son otros de los pilares centrales de este anime, desde la premisa, historia, desarrollo y el carisma de cada uno, todo está muy bien trabajado. No me refiero a que tengan la profundidad de un personaje seinen, sino que comprenden las capas de personalidad que puede presentar una persona, pues características y personalidad no son sinónimos. Un gran ejemplo de esto es la reina Hilling, un personaje que al principio se presenta como el arquetipo de la reina frívola que solo piensa en el estatus como parte de la realeza, y pueden haber decenas de personajes que basan toda su personalidad en ese arquetipo, pero este no es el caso de Hillling, pues podemos verla como reina, como madre, y como persona que se preocupa por los suyos, y cada una de estas facetas son las que construyen la personalidad del personaje y las que hacen que sea diferenciable de los demás.
Chapter: 10
The way Hilling is built, most of the characters are built, with their layers, in such a way that you can like or dislike a character trait without affecting the complete perception of the character, and I love that.
Continuing with what I mentioned in the first point, almost everything has a why, in this case, there is a fundamental factor when talking about the characters, their past, because we are not talking about characters who did nothing with their lives until the beginning of the anime, they are characters who had already had part of their development, which is revealed to us at the right time and gives more sense to the actions of the characters, to understand them while we see how they are developing in the course of the story.
The ones I consider as the greatest exponents of the above would be Bosse, who learned from his mistakes when he realized what he had sacrificed to fulfill his desire; Miranjo (well, more or less) who, having lost everything, clung to the only person she had left and went so far as to perform a series of bad actions just to be able to stay with him, blinded and unaware of the seriousness of her actions; brothers Despa and Desha, who bore the sins committed in the war against their father, and tormented by Ouken's descent into madness, seeking a way to snatch his immortality to bring back their brother.
Así como está construida Hilling están construidos la mayoría de los personajes, con sus capas, de manera en que puede agradarte o desagradarte un rasgo del personaje sin que esto afecte a la completa percepción del mismo, y es algo que me encanta.
Continuando con lo que mencioné en el primer punto, casi todo tiene un por qué, en este caso existe un factor fundamental a la hora de hablar de los personajes, su pasado, pues no hablamos de personajes que no hacían nada con su vida hasta el inicio del anime, son personajes que ya habían tenido parte de su desarrollo, el cual se nos va revelando en los momento correctos y les da más sentido al accionar de los personajes, para poder entenderlos mientras vemos cómo se van desenvolviendo en el transcurso de la historia.
Los que considero como mayores exponentes de lo anterior serían Bosse, quien aprendió de sus errores al darse cuenta de lo que había sacrificado para cumplir su deseo; Miranjo (bueno, más o menos) quien al haber perdido todo se aferró a la única persona que le quedaba y llegando a realizar una serie de malas acciones sólo para poder quedarse con él, cegada y sin ser consciente de la gravedad de sus actos; los hermanos Despa y Desha, quienes cargaron con los pecados cometidos en la guerra contra su padre, y atormentados por el descenso a la locura de Ouken, buscando una forma de arrebatarle su inmortalidad para traer de vuelta a su hermano.
Chapter: 17
Similarly, there are a few that I feel we're not so well carried, as Miranjo herself, well yes, I know it sounds contradictory, but it happens that the background and the approach of the character seem to be very well achieved, but I feel that several of his actions do not make much sense, and it's okay to be handled under the concept of "a good person with tragic past that went down the wrong path by being blinded by his desires", but I have a hard time assimilating that when it comes to seeing that he has the goal of destroying the kingdom and killing Hilling just because he saw that they were an obstacle for Bosse, and then having gestures of kindness and empathy (before the battle between Boji and Ouken), I understand that they tried to imply that he was not a bad person, but I see it more as handling of double standards, or at least that's the impression I get after so much confusion.
Del mismo modo hay unos pocos que siento que no fueron tan bien llevados, como la misma Miranjo, pues sí, sé que suena contradictorio, pero sucede que el trasfondo y el planteamiento del personaje me parece muy bien logrado, mas siento que varias de sus acciones no tienen mucho sentido, y está bien que se maneje bajo el concepto de “una buena persona con pasado trágico que se fue por el mal camino al cegarse por sus deseos personales”, pero me cuesta mucho asimilar eso a la hora de ver que tiene el objetivo de destruir el reino y matar a Hilling solo porque veía que eran un obstáculo para Bosse, y después tener gestos de amabilidad y empatía (antes de la batalla entre Boji y Ouken), entiendo que trataran de dar a entender que en realidad no era una mala persona, pero lo veo más como un manejo de doble moralidad, o al menos esa es la impresión que me da tras tanta confusión.
Chapter: 11
There is also Domas, a character with a lot of potential and with quite interesting ideas, but that was not properly exploited, although they are probably due to limitations of demographics or time management, since it is understood that he is a character who put his loyalty to the king in front of everything, something that is made clear in the conversation with his companion when they accompanied Boji, and in fulfilling his mission a series of very important emotions were made clear, such as the guilt and affection he feels towards Boji, in turn when his companion confronted him he responded with arrogance to his sense of responsibility, this as a reflection of the weakness that Domas himself felt, something that written on paper sounds great, but may not have been represented in the right way. Another case to mention is that of "the king's spear", who hid behind his imposing figure a person who felt weak and helpless, being Miranjo who comforted him and helped him deal with those feelings, but from a point on it seemed more like a simp than anything else (sorry xd).
También está Domas, personaje con mucho potencial y con ideas bastante interesantes, pero que no fueron correctamente explotadas, aunque probablemente sean por limitaciones de la demografía o gestión de tiempo, pues se entiende que es un personaje que ponía su lealtad al rey frente a todo, algo que se deja en claro en la conversación con su acompañante cuando acompañaban a Boji, y al cumplir con su misión se dejó ver una serie de emociones muy importantes, como la culpa y el afecto que siente hacia Boji, a su vez cuando su compañero lo confrontó él respondía con soberbia a su sentido de responsabilidad, esto como un reflejo de la debilidad que el mismo Domas sentía, algo que escrito en papel suena grandioso, pero puede que no se haya representado de la manera correcta. Otro caso a mencionar es el de “la lanza del rey”, quien escondía detrás de su figura imponente a una persona que se sentía débil e impotente, siendo Miranjo quien lo consoló y le ayudó a lidiar con esos sentimientos, pero a partir de un punto parecía más un simp que otra cosa (lo siento xd).
Chapter: 4
I know I haven't mentioned Boji despite him being the main character, but it's just that most characters have something very valuable to tell, even him, who as a protagonist works quite well, plus one can empathize more with him due to his hearing impairment along with his tender and kind nature, but he is never afraid of conflict, and this is where Kage comes in, another great character who also serves as Boji's support, each strengthening the other in their moments of weakness, forming a very nice friendship. Another of Boji's strengths is that he has very human and idealistic feelings, a perfect combination for a growing character, as he can show tenacity when it comes to wanting to get what he wants, his frustration at not being able to achieve it, his innocence, etc, being one of the best scenes when Domas asks him for forgiveness, being the reaction of the small protagonist to run away, because he had been generated a trauma through a betrayal by someone he respected and loved, but he was able to get out of that state thanks to the charisma and support of Kage, in a very nice scene.
Sé que no he mencionado a Boji pese a que es el protagonista, pero es que la mayoría de personajes tienen algo muy valioso que contar, incluso él, que como protagonista funciona bastante bien, además de que uno puede empatizar más con él debido a su discapacidad auditiva junto a su naturaleza tierna y amable, pero nunca le tiene miedo al conflicto, y aquí es donde entra Kage, otro gran personaje quien además sirve como soporte de Boji, cada uno fortaleciendo al otro en sus momentos de debilidad, formando una muy bonita amistad. Otro de los puntos fuertes de Boji es que tiene sentimientos muy humanos e idealistas, una combinación perfecta para un personaje en crecimiento, pues puede demostrar tenacidad a la hora de querer hacerse con lo que desea, su frustración al no poder alcanzarlo, su inocencia, etc, siendo una de las mejores escenas cuando Domas le pide perdón, siendo la reacción del pequeño protagonista el salir corriendo, pues le habían generado un trauma a través de una traición por parte de alguien que respetaba y quería, pero pudo salir de ese estado gracias al carisma y el apoyo de Kage, en una muy bonita escena.
Chapter: 16

(También quisiera hablar de lo bien hechas que están las relaciones familiares y fraternales en este anime, pero ya esto es demasiado largo, en resumen: Son hermosas, cuiden y quieran a sus madres ;-;)
Chapter: 19
The world of Ousama Ranking does not have many complications, but this is because it is handled along with the story and the characters, being one of the few established concepts of the existence of magic, multiple races, gods, demons, and the ranking of kings, which hides a lot of mysticism, and is one of the things that generate more curiosity and expectation over time.
The construction of the world as the previous points has two perspectives, one in the past, and another in the present, this is due to the impact that all the important events have on the present (I already sound like a broken record) and how they relate all the information, from the construction of a kingdom, the annihilation of one because of a betrayal, the war against the gods (which I hope will have even more relevance in the future), the war in the underworld, everything, and what stands out the most in this anime is the marks that these events have on the characters and how this affects their actions (I sound like a broken record X2), which represents a positive point in the anime, because having happened not so long ago you can see marks more than just a piece of paper, a structure, or a single person, they are not legends, it is history that persists.
As for the present day, it is quite appreciable that there are social marks about past events, such as defamation of the kingdom of wizards, and justification for the extermination of the shadow clan by masquerading it as justice, and so on.
En base el mundo de Ousama Ranking no tiene muchas complicaciones, pero esto es debido a que se maneja a la par de la historia y los personajes, siendo unos de los pocos conceptos establecidos la existencia de la magia, múltiples razas, dioses, demonios, y el ranking de reyes, el cual esconde mucho misticismo, y es una de las cosas que más curiosidad y expectativa genera con el paso del tiempo.
La construcción del mundo al igual que los anteriores puntos tiene sus dos perspectivas, una en el pasado, y otra en el presente, esto debido al impacto que tienen todos los acontecimientos importantes sobre la actualidad (ya parezco disco rayado) y la manera en la que relatan toda la información, desde la construcción de un reino, la aniquilación de uno a causa de una traición, la guerra contra los dioses (que espero tenga aún más relevancia en un futuro), la guerra en el inframundo, todo, y en lo que más destaca este anime a la hora de esto es en las marcas que poseen estos acontecimientos en los personajes y cómo esto afecta a sus acciones (parezco disco rayado X2), lo que representa un punto positivo en el anime, pues al haber ocurrido no hace mucho tiempo se pueden observar marcas más que sólo un pedazo de papel, una estructura, o una sola persona, no son leyendas, es historia que aún persiste.
En cuanto a la actualidad es bastante apreciable que existan marcas sociales en relación a los sucesos pasados, como la difamación al reino de magos, la justificación a la exterminación del clan sombra al enmascararlo como justicia, etc.
Chapter 18
And another aspect that I value a lot is the constant movement of the world, because many stories make the mistake of focusing everything on the protagonist, that without him nothing important happens, he always arrives at the right time to save everyone, and among other clichés, in this case it is not so, (in fact Boji arrives already when the inmates had made some chaos), the story places you in several points of attention in which continuously things happen organically, moreover, the kingdom of the underworld did not help the kingdom of Boji only by an act of good heart, if it were not because they took their inmates they would not have acted, to what is more, Desha went with intentions to conquer the kingdom taking advantage of the chaos, which perfectly represents the behavior in times of conquest and power, and if the anime had bet on something else would have formed a bloody warlike conflict, and the fact that an anime that did not aim at all to be a work of that kind has such potential is something that should be recognized.
Y otro aspecto que valoro mucho es el constante movimiento del mundo, pues muchas historias cometen el error de centrar todo en el protagonista, que sin él no sucede nada importante, él siempre llega en el momento justo para salvar a todos, y entre otros clichés, en este caso no es así, (de hecho Boji llega ya cuando los reclusos habían hecho un poco de caos), la historia te ubica en varios puntos de atención en los que continuamente suceden cosas de forma orgánica, es más, el reino del inframundo no ayudó al reino de Boji sólo por un acto de buen corazón, si no fuera porque se llevaron a sus reclusos ni hubieran actuado, a lo que es más, Desha fue con intenciones de conquistar el reino aprovechando el caos, lo que representa perfectamente el comportamiento en épocas de conquista y poder, y si el anime hubiera apostado por otra cosa se hubiera formado un conflicto bélico sangriento, y el hecho de que un anime que no apuntó para nada a ser una obra de ese tipo tenga tal potencial es algo que debe ser reconocido.
Chapter 15
As for the ranking of kings despite being in the title and being a basic pillar of the world still hides a lot of mysticism, especially to know what is hidden behind the first place and what happens to everyone who reaches the same, but at the end of the anime already something happens that gives us the indication that all this will have much relevance in the future, so we can only wait to see how the mysteries of this world are unveiled.
En cuanto al ranking de reyes pese a estar en el título y aparentemente ser un pilar básico del mundo aún esconde mucho misticismo, sobretodo saber qué es lo que se esconde detrás del primer puesto y qué ocurre con todo aquel que llega al mismo, pero al final del anime ya ocurre algo que nos da la indicación de que todo esto va a tener mucha relevancia en un futuro, así que sólo queda esperar para ver cómo se van develando los misterios de este mundo.
Chapter: 4
Ousama Ranking has a peculiar style because aesthetically it does not look like a Japanese product (except for some uses of color and animation, but in the same way it is not so supposed), opting for an aesthetic that may be a little more childish at first glance, something more similar to the style of a cartoon of Cartoon network or something like that, which could have scared away many people believing that it was a series for children, although we already know that it deals with issues that can be a little sensitive for children's audiences.
Ousama Ranking tiene un estilo peculiar, pues estéticamente no pareciera un producto japonés (salvo por algunos usos del color y la animación, pero de igual manera no es tan suponible), optando por una estética que puede ser un poco más infantil a primera vista, algo más similar al estilo de una caricatura de Cartoon network o algo así, lo cual pudo haber ahuyentado a muchas personas creyendo que se trataba de una serie para niños, aunque ya sabemos que trata temas que pueden ser un poco delicados para el público infantil.
Chapter: 3
That this is the aesthetics of the anime makes it a bad thing? No, not at all, rather it helps it to be more identifiable, with features that become quite characteristic, and this is not only something of the anime, as almost everything comes from the manga, which is noted that opts more for a more classic style, something we would see quietly in a work of dozens of years ago; the anime brought by the great WIT studios what they do is to maintain this style and further develop the atmosphere that surrounds it, providing features reminiscent of picture books, something that fits perfectly with the style of the work. The animation and direction, in general, are also very well done, from the fluidity to convey the right feelings in the scenes, being the touching moments the most predominant, and for that we must give credit to a studio that has been in the industry for many years, and their most recognized works have an incredible quality, and this is no exception at all.
(I take this space to comment that the production of the openings and endings of this anime have a spectacular production, I love each one of them).
¿Que ésta sea la estética del anime lo vuelve algo malo? No, para nada, más bien lo ayuda a ser más identificable, con rasgos que se vuelven bastante característicos, y esto no es sólo algo del anime, pues casi todo viene del manga, el cual se nota que opta más por un estilo más clásico, algo que veríamos tranquilamente en una obra de hace decenas de años; el anime traído por los grandiosos estudios WIT lo que hacen es mantener éste estilo y desarrollar aún más la atmósfera que lo rodea, brindándole rasgos que recuerdan a los libros ilustrados, algo que encaja a la perfección con el estilo de la obra. La animación y la dirección en general también están muy bien logradas, desde la fluidez hasta lograr transmitir los sentimientos correctos en las escenas, siendo los momentos conmovedores los más predominantes, y de eso hay que dar crédito a un estudio que lleva muchos años en la industria, y sus trabajos más reconocidos cuentan con una increíble calidad, y este no es la excepción en lo absoluto.
(Aprovecho este espacio para comentar que la producción de los openings y endings de este anime cuentan con una producción espectacular, amo cada uno de ellos).
Ousama Ranking anime without a doubt is one of the biggest gems of its season, and it's a pity that many have labeled it as childish just because of its aesthetics, when in fact it has many very good and interesting aspects, however, it also has some details that are a bit meh, with a good further development they could even be fixed, but whatever the result, the positive aspects are greater than the negative ones, with a lot of things that can still be explored because of all the potential they have, and this is one of the things that could describe the series "has potential", potential that they have known how to use so far, with an excellent way of telling a story surrounded by mysticism that the viewer was unaware of and that at the time of revealing each one, you realize that everything fits, therefore it is one of the things that should be most valued of the work.
El anime de Ousama Ranking sin lugar a dudas es una de las mayores joyitas de su temporada, y es una lástima que muchos lo hayan tachado de infantil sólo por su estética, cuando en realidad tiene muchos aspectos muy buenos e interesantes, no obstante también tiene algunos detalles que son un poco meh, con un buen desarrollo posterior hasta podrían arreglarse, pero sea cual sea el resultado, son mayores los aspectos positivos que los negativos, con un montón de cosas que aún pueden explorarse debido a todo el potencial que poseen, y esto es una de las cosas que podrían describir a la serie “tiene potencial”, potencial que han sabido cómo usar hasta el momento, con una excelente forma de contar una historia rodeada de misticismos que el espectador desconocía, y que al momento de revelarse cada uno, se da cuenta de que todo encaja, por lo tanto es una de las cosas que más deben ser valoradas de la obra.

Unfortunately, the anime is not complete, there are no announcements of a second season, and I don't think everyone after watching it will go straight to the manga (there are those who do and that's perfect as long as they don't make spoilers thank you), so for those of us who only watch the anime we must wait a while, and only the anime will decide if the quality of the work is maintained or goes in decline, but for my part, it has all my best wishes, and I hope that those who followed Ousama Ranking week after week have enjoyed it as much as I did.

Lamentablemente el anime no está completo, no hay anuncios de una segunda temporada, y no creo que todos después de verlo se vayan directo al manga (hay quienes sí y eso está perfecto mientras no hagan spoilers, gracias), así que para los que sólo veamos el anime debemos esperar un tiempo, y sólo el mismo decidirá si la calidad de la obra se mantiene o va en declive, pero por mi parte tiene todos mis mejores deseos, y espero que los que siguieron Ousama Ranking semana tras semana lo hayan disfrutado tanto como yo.
