I need to talk about this Korean TV Series , "See You At Work Tomorrow" why because everything is still fresh in my head before I forget anything I will want to say, because this series is interesting, I'm not gonna lie about that one
So I will start from the beginning, at first the title wasn't really giving the kind of Korean style I would like but still I had nothing to lose , this Korean series has a way of pulling you in and then before you know it you are cancelling plans just to finish one more episod, though I ssaw it little by little as they were releasing two episodes per week, so this series is a workplace romantic comedy and on the surface it sounds really simple, office girl meets difficult boss, they clash, they grow, they fall, looks simple right? But the way this show tells that story is anything but simple and that is what got me.
Cha Ji-yoon is the kind of character that you root for immediately , she has been working at this company for seven years , seven years and she is still stuck, still navigating office politics ,still dealing with colleagues and situations that would make any reasonable person want to get up and walk out but she stays, she is not the dramatic female lead you see in a lot of these series she is quiet she is sharp she is tired in a very real and relatable way and I did understand her immediately.
And then there is Kang Si woo, the boss, the one everybody is scared of, the one with the reputation that walks into a room before he does , on paper he sounds like the classic cold and unapproachable male lead that Korean dramas love to give us , but this series peels him back slowly and what is underneath is so much more interesting than the surface ,he is not cold because he is cruel , He is just careful because he has been through things, And watching Ji-yoon be the one person who sees past the wall he has built around himself that part of the story was genuinely beautiful.
The chemistry between the two leads is the kind that builds quietly, It does not hit you immediately, it stays on you and then one day you are watching a scene that is not even supposed to be romantic and you realize you are fully invested in these two people that slow burn was executed really well and I appreciated that they did not rush it.
Now let me talk about the one thing that bothered me because I cannot do this review without addressing it.
The divorce thing.
There is a storyline in this show around Kang Si-woo being divorced and the way the people around him treat that fact like it is some kind of stain on his character, the whispers, the judgment the way it is was used against him like he did something simply by having a marriage that did not work out, And what made it worse for me is that his relationship with his ex did not even end badly, It was not a dramatic ugly painful ending, they simply did not work out, two people who tried and realized they were better apart, see that happens that is life, so the way the series allowed that to be used as a weapon against him the way people discriminated against him for it that seemed very uncomfortably with me throughout.
It felt unfair and honestly it felt very unnecessary because the series did not need that angle to create tension ,the story was already strong enough, without using divorce as something shameful.
But with that I loved this series a lot I finished the last episode this evening and I felt that specific kind of sadness that only comes when something you genuinely enjoyed is over.
That feeling alone tells you everything.
