There's no excuse other than laziness to review everything I've seen so far. But, because of a creative block, I've decided to take a step back and see what makes me happy and what I want to showcase on my blog. So, aligning myself with my beginnings in Web3, let's talk to you about more series and more movies. Today we start strong, with one of my favorites of this year: Shogun.

The Taiko Toyotomi Hideyoshi (Yukijiro Hotaru) has just died, and his only heir is a little boy incapable of ruling. Spanish and Portuguese Catholic priests try to take over the region. An English navigator falls under the power of a savage people unknown to him. In the middle of the Middle Ages, the era of Japanese feudalism, the incursion of the Catholic empire, Martin Luther's Protestant European Reformation and the battles between fiefdoms to take over the shogunate. In other words, there were many scenarios occurring at that time and each of these had a profound importance that intertwine not only to create this great novel, but also, to create a magnificent production. Full of many aspects that lead it to be the best series of this year (by far).

Un navegante inglés cae bajo el poder de un pueblo salvaje desconocido para él. En pleno medioevo, la época del feudalismo japonés, la incursión del imperio católico. la reforma Europea protestante de Martín Lutero y las batallas entre los feudos para hacerse con el shogunato. Es decir, había muchos escenarios ocurriendo en ese momento y cada uno de estos tenía una importancia profunda que se entrelazan no solo para crear esta gran novela, sino también, para crear una producción magnífica, llena de muchos aspectos que la llevan a ser la mejor serie de este año (por mucho).
Shōgun is a Disney+ original series based on the homonymous work of James Clavell of the Historical Fiction genre. This means that most of the facts happened in real life, but some data, names, and leaving only the most transcendental facts of the story are changed to adapt them to an incredible novel (which is now a series).
Besides all the cinematography adapted for this work, there are many aspects I can expand on. But I want to talk about this as a person who has never read this book and who knew more about the history of Japan thanks to this show. I have to say that I loved the way they portrayed the life of the Japanese at that time, especially because those who did not know this people branded them as savages. This contrast between Japanese and European culture, for example, put into context who the real savages were.

Shōgun es una serie original de Disney+ basada en la obra homónima de James Clavell del género Ficción Histórica, lo que quiere decir que la mayoría de los hechos, ocurrieron en la vida real, pero se cambian algunos datos, nombres y dejando solo los hechos más trascendentales de la historia para adaptarlos a una novela (que ahora es una serie) increíble.
Además de toda la cinematografía adaptada para esta obra, hay muchos aspectos en los que me puedo extender, pero quiero hablar de esto como una persona que nunca se ha leído este libro y que conoció más de la historia de Japón gracias a este show. Tengo que decir que amé la manera que retrataron la vida de los japoneses en esa época, sobre todo por el hecho de que los que no conocían este pueblo los tachaban de salvajes. Este contraste entre la cultura japonesa y la europea, por ejemplo, hacía poner en contexto quienes eran los reales salvajes.
The plot is filled with a lot of politics, it also has some wonderful scenes, a lot of drama, incredible battles, but definitely the highlight is just the fact that they wanted to win a war without bloodshed. These strategic moves throughout the series allow you to get caught up with the unsurpassed performances of one of the best casts that could have been made for a long time.
Before I talk about the actors involved, I would love to note the whole issue of the script, languages, and translations within the series. If you haven't seen this series, you have to watch it in the original language, otherwise you are going to miss the most remarkable thing about this story. To put it in context, the Englishman John Blackthorne is under the supervision of Toda Mariko, who becomes his translator to establish communication between him and Toranaga. Throughout the show, we can see the subtle way in which she changed the translation and this translation was just another strategy, it's incredible.

La trama está llena de mucha política, también tiene unas escenas maravillosas, mucho drama, batallas increíbles, pero definitivamente lo más resaltante es, justamente, el hecho de que querían ganar una guerra sin derramar sangre. Estos movimientos estratégicos durante toda la serie te permite quedarte atrapado con las insuperables actuaciones de uno de los mejores castings que se pueden haber hecho durante mucho tiempo.
Antes de hablar de los actores involucrados, me encantaría hacer notar todo el tema del libreto, de las lenguas y las traducciones dentro de la serie. Si no has visto esta serie, tienes que verla en el idioma original, sino te vas a perder de lo más remarcable que tiene esta historia. Para ponerlos en contexto, el inglés John Blackthorne queda bajo la supervisión de Toda Mariko, quien se hace su traductora para establecer la comunicación entre él y Toranaga. Durante todo el show, podemos ver la manera tan sutil en la que ella cambiaba la traducción y esta traducción era una estrategia más, es increíble.
I couldn't say which of all the performances was the best, but definitely top the list Hiroyuki Sanada, who plays Yoshii Toranaga and Anna Sawai, who plays Mariko. Among other amazing performances, Tadanobu Asano, who plays Kashigi Yabushige, stands out, we will all agree that he was the charisma of this show, really my respects to this wonderful trio.
It is also a must, for me, to add to the list of standouts in this series. One of these blew me away, and that was Nestor Carbonell, who played Nestor Rodrigues, a Spaniard working with the Portuguese, a captain who could not swim. He gave one of the most hilarious scenes possible, and for me, it was completely outstanding. And although he is the main character of the play, Cosmo Jarvis, who played John Blackthorne, did not do a bad job, but he was around an undisputed list of acting monsters that made his character just another one. As if he was simply the canvas to weave the whole story painted on him.

No podría decir cuál de todas las actuaciones fue la mejor, pero definitivamente encabezan la lista Hiroyuki Sanada, quien interpreta a Yoshii Toranaga y Anna Sawai, quien interpreta a Mariko. Entre otras actuaciones increíbles, destaca Tadanobu Asano, quien interpreta a Kashigi Yabushige, todos estaremos de acuerdo que fue el carisma de este show, realmente mis respetos para este maravilloso trío.
También es una necesidad, para mi, agregar a la lista de los destacados de esta serie, y uno de estos me dejó loca, y fue Nestor Carbonell, quien hizo de Nestor Rodrigues, un español que trabajaba con los portugueses, un capitán que no sabía nadar. Dio una de las escenas más hilarantes posibles, y para mi fue completamente destacable. Y aunque es el protagonista de la obra, Cosmo Jarvis, quien personificó a John Blackthorne, no hizo un mal trabajo, pero estaba alrededor de una indiscutible lista de monstruos de la actuación que hicieron que su personaje fuera uno más, como si el simplemente fuera el lienzo para tejer toda la historia pintada en él.
The story is dense, although you could watch it in a marathon, if you like, but I couldn't watch more than two chapters a day because I was left chewing on what I had just seen. The sentence I put at the beginning was one of those things that left me thinking until today, three months later. The Japanese art and customs, was another of the reasons that made everything produced was round, without loose ends and making something masterful.
If you haven't seen it yet, run to see it, you won't be disappointed by any means. It's on Disney+ and remember to watch it in the original language for a complete experience. This is just the first season, and we are going to have 3 in total, it is worth saying that in the recent list of the Emmys 2024, it has 25 nominations? There is something there.

La historia es densa, aunque podrías verla un maratón, si gustas, pero yo no podía ver más de dos capítulos por día porque me quedaba masticando lo que acababa de ver. La frase que puse al principio fue una de esas cosas que me dejaron pensando hasta hoy, tres meses después. El arte y las costumbres japonesas, fue otra de las razones que hicieron que todo lo producido fuera redondo, sin cabos sueltos y realizando algo magistral.
Si aún no la has visto, corre a verla, no te vas a decepcionar por ningún motivo. Está en Disney+ y recuerda verla en el idioma original para que sea toda una experiencia completa. Esta es apenas la primera temporada y vamos a tener 3 en total, vale decir que en la reciente lista de los Emmys 2024, tiene 25 nominaciones... Hay algo allí.
