My girlfriend and I recently watched the 2nd part of Sonic. As in the case of the first part, we had more or less similar impressions here - quite a nice movie, better than the previous episode. This is not a flawless production, the holes in the script are large, some of them are bigger than in the newest "Spiderman" and if you are not turning a blind eye to it, it will bother you. But. Within this universe, all of this works for me. Of course, the script is trivial, it is a cliché of one of hundreds of family films, everything goes straight to the end, with absolutely no deviation from the norm, but with such nicely made films, it does not bother at all. Apart from one bad plot, which, for reasons unknown to me, ended up in the final version, I have nothing sensible to accuse this film of. It's a good textbook sequel that tweaks things the prequel didn't demand + gives you more of what you liked.
The plot is just as standard. The sequel begins at the same location where Part 1 ended. Tales appears in our world, Sonic continues his work as a superhero, and human heroes live their lives. Dr. Robotnik returns to Earth with his new companion - their goal is to obtain a crystal that gives super power. Of course, lest it be too easy, Eggman wants to use the crystal for his own purposes, so he cheats the red hedgehog. As you can see, this is a textbook script. It is true that I did not reveal some threads, but even if I mentioned them, it would not affect his assessment. Normally it would bother me ... Or otherwise, it usually bothers me when the film has no (significant) merits. I am also able to suspend my disbelief when the movie does not need a good script, because other aspects are more important (good, fast fun, eye-catching special effects, nice atmosphere, fanservice). Of course, you shouldn't forgive too big mistakes, but in my opinion, if it's not a serious movie or one that tries to aspire to this title (e.g. "Belle", which I reviewed on my blog recently), you can forgive minor bugs that don't actually disturb the movie. Because what is supposed to disturb? Inconsistency in 3, maybe 4 elements, since the movie as a whole does not care about them, the action rushes forward and they do not really matter at the end of the day? I prefer to be happy instead of complaining - for example, because the script explains everything to us in a concise way, and we can only enjoy the screening. The only thing that pissed me off while being watched was the unnecessary plot of the two characters. Initially, they were needed and did not disturb, but the creators could throw out their plot from the last version of the film and no one would complain. They can be cut just as easily as a single filler episode from the anime DBZ, "Naruto", HxH, when the creators were unable to refine the episode and had to throw something unrelated to the main plot. It doesn't last long, so it's easy to survive, but you'd rather not complain if you throw it away - it doesn't carry any value.
I'd love to say about all the fanservice examples, but ... I haven't played Sonic that much, so I'm not going to point out any specific examples - you'll find a lot of game stuff here. Besides, we have some items that will be familiar to DBZ fans. I won't reveal these due to spoilers (and trailers don't reveal them, so it would be bad of me), so I'll limit myself to a few things. Knuckles in one scene attacked, like Jiren in DBS, the color of the aura when characters charge 100% power and fight in the air. At one point, I started talking loudly - "Fuck! If someone tells me that it's impossible to transfer DBZ and other anime to the language of the movie, I'll kill him with laughter! What I can see now with my own eyes is" Dragon Ball "and other cartoons from Japan! ". Almost 24 hours have passed since our screening and I still think so - apart from the fights in the air, where we do not see the characters, but only two auras that fly very fast in the sky and every now and then hit each other with great force, we have a lot of colorful ones in "Sonic" and strange things that genuinely work. Ok, you can see that this is a fairy tale for children, but who bothers? It's like watching an independent drama cinema and complaining about its features - in my opinion it is idiocy. And Jim Carrey as Robotnik ...
He's just awesome! Yes, he is a standard Jim Carrey and if you know most of the films with his participation, it will not surprise you. Yes, he's not fat like Eggman from the games, but that didn't bother me even minimally. I don't know what character Eggman is in the games, but even though Carrey's version is very different from him, it doesn't really matter. The worker from the movies fits his role very well, he is coherent, stands out, has enough elements known from the games. And most of all, it gets our attention during the screening. It is true that as a character he is extremely binary, but as I said - such things in this type of movies, do not disturb in any way. It's a pity Jim Carrey suspended acting for a long time, but luckily his story was properly ended, so I'll survive as "Sonic 3" and "Sonic 4" will focus on something else. At worst, the studio and Sega will send a dollar truck to Carrey, and Jim will return as the arch enemy with his grand revenge plan. Idris Elba as Knuckles is great - when I saw him on the screen it felt like I was watching Jiren from DBS. A simple character for whom only the strength to defend his friends counts. I really liked his voice, character, words he utters - such a typical tank as Hulk, Bane etc. but more likeable and pleasing to the eye. Sonic's companion also came out cool - such a nice teenager who lacks confidence and friends. Both characters are as simple and schematic as Robotnik, but for the framework of this movie, that's totally fine. As for the rest of the actors, it was fine. The level of standard family cinema, but in a slightly better shape. Why am I saying that? Because you can see that they enjoy it and are not artificial, like many actors in this type of productions. Apart from the one objection I wrote about at the beginning, I have nothing to complain about. Even for the short storylines of the side characters that I didn't like. Yes, these characters and their plots are pretty cool at best, but the rest of them were so good I can ignore it. Edit: I came across several opinions on the web that say otherwise. They generally think that all the scenes with people (that weren't about Sonic) were redundant, and well ... I have no reason to disagree. After all, apart from the topic of the other policeman and Robotnik's assistant, the remaining human threads were ok for me. It is not even a good level, but for me it was high enough.
As for the special effects, it will be short - the movie looks nice. Everything is moving dynamically, the CGI is nice, and so are the character models. Maybe in a few years it will not look very good, but during the screening I did not see anything ugly or poorly done. Besides, there are even more action scenes than in the first part. To sum up - very good, I can even say that a model adaptation of the game to the language of the film. During the premiere of Part 1, I didn't write it with too much confidence, but now I'm convinced of it. For the second time in my life, I felt like I was watching a solid adaptation of a game I used to play and it was a very nice feeling. I recommend! If you have a child and you do not know what to go to the cinema with, I think I have solved your problem (at least for these 2 xD hours). I rate "Sonic 2" at 8/10.

Ostatnio obejrzeliśmy z dziewczyną, 2 część Sonica. Tak jak w przypadku 1 części, tak tu mieliśmy mniej więcej podobne wrażenia - całkiem spoko film, lepszy niż poprzedni epizod. Nie jest to bezbłędna produkcja, dziury w scenariuszu są duże, niektóre z nich są większe niż w najnowszym "Spiderman" i jeżeli nie jesteście na to przymknąć oka, to będzie Wam to przeszkadzać. Ale. W ramach tego uniwersum, wszystko to wg mnie działa. Oczywiście, scenariusz jest banalny, to klisza jednego z setek filmów familijnych, wszystko zmierza jak po sznurku do samego końca, bez absolutnie żadnego odstępstwa od normy, ale przy tak przyjemnie zrealizowanych filmach, to w ogóle nie przeszkadza. Nie licząc jednego złego wątku, który z niewiadomych dla mnie przyczyn, trafił do ostatecznej wersji, to nie mam nic sensownego do zarzucenia temu filmowi. To dobry, podręcznikowy sequel, który poprawia elementy, w których nie domagał prequel + daje więcej tego, co się podobało.
Fabuła jest równie standardowa. Sequel rozpoczyna się w tym samym miejscu, gdzie skończyła się 1 część. Tales pojawia się w naszym świecie, Sonic kontynuuje swoją pracę jako superbohater, a ludzcy bohaterowie żyją swoim życiem. Na Ziemię powraca Dr Robotnik wraz ze swoim nowym towarzyszem - ich celem jest zdobycie kryształu dającego super moc. Oczywiście, żeby nie było zbyt ławo, Eggman chce wykorzystać kryształ do swoich własnych celów, więc oszukuje czerwonego jeża. Jak sami widzicie, jest to podręcznikowy scenariusz. Co prawda nie zdradziłem niektórych wątków, ale nawet gdybym o nich wspomniał, to nie wpłynie to na jego ocenę. Normalnie by mi to przeszkadzało... Albo inaczej, przeszkadza mi to zazwyczaj w sytuacji, gdy film nie ma jakichkolwiek (istotnych) zalet. Jestem też w stanie zawiesić swoją niewiarę, gdy film nie potrzebuje dobrego scenariusza, bo inne aspekty są ważniejsze (dobra, szybka zabawa, fajne dla oka efekty specjalne, niezły klimat, fanserwis). Oczywiście, nie powinno się wybaczać zbyt dużych błędów, ale wg mnie, jeżeli nie jest to poważny film lub taki, który stara się aspirować do tego miana (np. "Belle", które niedawno temu zrecenzowałem na swoim blogu), to można wybaczyć drobne błędy, które w zasadzie nie przeszkadzają filmowi. No bo co ma przeszkadzać? Niespójność w 3, może 4 elementach, skoro film jako całość się nimi nie przejmuje, akcja pędzi szybko do przodu i w sumie nie mają one większego znaczenia na koniec dnia? Wolę się cieszyć zamiast narzekać - cieszyć np. z tego powodu, że scenariusz tłumaczy nam wszystko w zwięzły sposób, a my możemy się jedynie radować seansem. Jedyne co mnie wkurzało podczas oglądana, to niepotrzebny wątek dwóch postaci. Początkowo byli oni potrzebni i nie przeszkadzali, ale twórcy mogli wyrzucić ich wątek z ostatniej wersji filmu i nikt by nie narzekał. Można ich wyciąć równie łatwo, co pojedynczy odcinek fillerowy z anime typu DBZ, "Naruto", HxH, gdy twórcy nie byli w stanie dopracować odcinka i musieli wrzucić coś niezwiązanego z głównym wątkiem. Nie trwa on długo, więc można to łatwo przeżyć, ale raczej by nikt nie narzekał, gdyby go wyrzucić - nie niesie on za sobą żadnych wartości.
Bardzo chętnie powiedziałbym o wszystkich przykładach fanserwisu, ale... Nie grałem w "Sonica" zbyt dużo, więc nie jestem wskazać żadnych konkretnych przykładów - ot znajdziecie tu wiele rzeczy z gier. Poza tym, mamy kilka elementów, które będą znajome dla fanów DBZ. Tych nie zdradzę z uwagi na spoilery (a trailery ich nie zdradzają, więc byłoby to złe z mojej strony), więc ograniczę się do kilku rzeczy. Knuckles w jednej scenie zaatakował, jak Jiren w DBS, kolor aury, gdy postacie ładują 100% mocy i walki w powietrzu. W pewnym momencie zacząłem głośno mówić - "No kurwa! Jak ktoś mi powie, że nie da się przenieść DBZ i innych anime na język filmu, to zabiję go śmiechem! Przecież to co widzę teraz na własne oczy, to właśnie "Dragon Ball" i inne kreskówki z Japonii!". Minęły prawie 24 godziny od naszego seansu i nadal tak myślę - już pomijając walki w powietrzu, gdzie nie widzimy postaci, a jedynie dwie aury, które latają bardzo szybko po niebie i co chwilę uderzają się z potężną siłą, mamy w "Sonicu" mnóstwo kolorowych i dziwnych rzeczy, które autentycznie działają. Ok, widać, że to bajka dla dzieci, ale komu to przeszkadza? To tak jakby oglądać niezależne kino dramatyczne i narzekać na jego cechy - wg mnie jest to idiotyzm. No i Jim Carrey jako Robotnik...
On jest po prostu zajebisty! Tak, to standardowy Jim Carrey i jeżeli znacie większość filmów z jego udziałem, to niczym Was nie zaskoczy. Tak, nie jest gruby jak Eggman z gier, ale mi to nie przeszkadzało nawet w minimalnym stopniu. Nie wiem, jaką postacią jest Eggman w grach, ale nawet jeśli wersja Carreya bardzo się od niego różni, to nie ma to żadnego znaczenia. Robotnik z filmów bardzo dobrze pasuje do swojej roli, jest spójnie poprowadzony, wyróżnia się, ma dostatecznie dużo elementów znanych z gier. No i przede wszystkim, zdobywa naszą uwagę podczas seansu. Co prawda jako postać jest skrajnie zero-jedynkowy, ale jak już mówiłem - takie rzeczy w tego typu filmach, nie przeszkadzają w żadnym stopniu. Szkoda, że Jim Carrey zawiesił aktorstwo na dłuższy czas, ale na szczęście jego wątek został odpowiednio zakończony, więc przeżyję jak "Sonic 3" i "Sonic 4" skupi się na czymś innym. W najgorszym razie, studio i Sega wyślą do Carreya ciężarówkę z dolarami, a Jim powróci jako arcywróg ze swoim wielkim planem zemsty. Poziom standardowego kina familijnego, ale w nieco lepszej formie. Czemu tak mówię? Bo widać, że sprawia im to radość i nie są sztuczni, jak wielu aktorów w tego typu produkcjach. Pomijając ten jeden zarzut, o którym napisałem na początku, to nie mam się do czego przyczepić. Nawet do krótkich wątków postaci pobocznych, których nie polubiłem. Tak, te postacie, jak i ich wątki są co najwyżej niezłe, ale cała reszta była tak dobra, że mogę to zignorować. Edit: Natrafiłem w sieci na kilka opinii, które twierdzą inaczej. Generalnie uważają, że wszystkie sceny z ludźmi (które nie dotyczyły Sonica) były zbędne i cóż... Nie mam powodu, by się nie zgodzić. Mimo wszystko, pomijając wątek tego drugiego policjanta i pomocnika Robotnika, to pozostałe ludzkie wątki były dla mnie ok. Nie jest to nawet dobry poziom, ale dla mnie był odpowiednio wysoki.
Co do efektów specjalnych, to będzie krótko - film wygląda ładnie. Wszystko się dynamicznie rusza, CGI jest ładne, tak samo modele postaci. Może za kilka lat nie będzie to wyglądało zbyt dobrze, ale podczas seansu nie widziałem nic brzydkiego lub kiepsko zrobionego. Poza tym, scen akcji jest jeszcze więcej niż w pierwszej części. Reasumując - bardzo dobra, mogę wręcz powiedzieć że wzorcowa adaptacja gry na język filmu. Podczas premiery 1 części, nie pisałem tego ze zbyt dużą pewnością, ale teraz jestem co do tego przekonany. Po raz drugi w swoim życiu, czułem się że oglądam solidną adaptację gry, w którą kiedyś grałem i było to bardzo przyjemne uczucie. Polecam! Jeżeli macie dziecko i nie wiecie na co z nim pójść do kina, to myślę że rozwiązałem Wasz problem (przynajmniej na te 2 godziny xD). "Sonic 2" oceniam na 8/10.
