La obsesión del fandom es un tema que parece que nunca tendrá fin; esto no es algo nuevo porque siempre existe ese inmenso grupo de fans que defenderá de cualquier manera a quien decida seguir; claramente ahora existe un nivel mayor en expresar dicho "apoyo" por el uso desmedido de las redes sociales y es que expresar su admiración a una marca (sea cual sea) se ha vuelto una manera de vida la cual puede hacer perder cualquier relación con lo que es real, con lo que se sienta verdadero; justamente esta nueva serie original de Amazon Prime Video, usa esa manera de vida para relatar una historia con elementos de ficción y realidad que será difícil de saber cuál es cuál.
The obsession of the fandom is a topic that seems that it will never end; this is not something new because there is always that huge group of fans that will defend in any way they choose to follow; clearly now there is a higher level in expressing such "support" by the excessive use of social networks and is that expressing their admiration for a brand (whatever it is) has become a way of life which can lose any relationship with what is real, with what feels true; just this new original series from Amazon Prime Video, uses that way of life to tell a story with elements of fiction and reality that will be difficult to tell which is truth and which is fiction.
En "Swarm" veremos la historia de "Dre", una joven mujer que vive en un suburbio de Houston, Texas junto a su hermana "Marissa". Dre es una chica solitaria, retraída y que su mundo solo parte funcionar por dos cosas, su hermana a quien apoya en todo lo que ella quiere y su admiración por la artista pop, "Ni'Jah", justamente esa obsesión y admiración hará que Dre tome ciertas decisiones que harán que su vida tenga una trayectoria en dónde primero experimentará el dolor y el cual debe expresarlo en rabia, locura, violencia y terror; todo impulsado por un fanatismo enfermo el cual le dará validez a cada uno de sus actos.
Esta nueva producción original de Amazon Prime Video, fue estrenada el pasado 17 de marzo, contando con tan solo siete episodios con una duración entre 29 a 38 minutos; un tiempo suficiente que funciona en relatar una historia que se considera de ficción, pero que tiene tantos elementos reales que justamente pareciera basado en hechos verdaderos. La serie fue creada por Donald Glover y Janine Nabers, el primer es el creador de la serie "Atlanta" y la segunda cumplió diferentes funciones en varias producciones televisivas, como por ejemplo escribir el guion en varios episodios de "Watchmen" y "Girlfriends' Guide to Divorce" por nombrar a algunas. Esta serie tiene un gran trabajo en la fotografía; si trabajo es excepcional y no existe una toma mala, todo es muy artístico, desde una casa deshabitada, a un strip club o en un lugar que se convierte en una escena del crimen; todo muy bien editado con un excelente uso de la música.
In "Swarm" we will see the story of "Dre", a young woman who lives in a suburb of Houston, Texas with her sister "Marissa". Dre is a lonely girl, withdrawn and that her world only works for two things, her sister who supports everything she wants and her admiration for the pop artist, "Ni'Jah", precisely that obsession and admiration will make Dre take certain decisions that will make her life have a trajectory where she will first experience the pain and which must express it in rage, madness, violence and terror; all driven by a sick fanaticism which will give validity to each of his actions.
This new original production of Amazon Prime Video, was released on March 17, with only seven episodes with a duration between 29 to 38 minutes; a sufficient time that works in telling a story that is considered fiction, but has so many real elements that just seem based on true facts. The series was created by Donald Glover and Janine Nabers, the former is the creator of the series "Atlanta" and the latter had different roles in several television productions, such as writing the script in several episodes of "Watchmen" and "Girlfriends' Guide to Divorce" to name a few. This series has a great job in photography; if work is exceptional and there is not a bad shot, everything is very artistic, from an uninhabited house, to a strip club or a place that becomes a crime scene; all very well edited with an excellent use of music.
La historia es lo más sorprendente de esta serie, como dije anteriormente la realidad y la ficción transcurren en el mismo camino y en momentos parece que lo que ocurre en esta historia pareciera que es basado en un hecho real; creo que para las personas que les gusta usar (bien o mal) las redes sociales, podrán ver similitudes a lo que se puede conseguir mientras visualizamos apps creadas para socializar y muchas veces vemos que ser sociable es lo menos que observamos y más cuando existe un tema sobre un fandom defendiendo a quien más aman; esto en parte es la historia la cual el personaje principal toma de la dependencia de creer o amar a alguien para realizar un tipo de cruzada para crear un tipo de justicia contra quienes han hecho un daño a quien ellos admiran. Esta es una historia que no es para nada sobre alguien sano mentalmente.
Las actuaciones son muy buenas en especial la de Dominique Fishback cómo "Dre"; gran parte de la historia está relatada desde su punto de vista y eso es fascinante porque su personaje no es para nada alguien estable; ella es una mujer solitaria, callada, temerosa al contacto con otras personas, no es alguien que está preparado para eso y es muy evidente de su personaje, pero esa no es su característica principal, ya que es muy dependiente y los momentos de independencia, al final siempre serán motivados por el mandato directo o no de otras personas; la actuación de Fishback es muy creíble, su evolución del personaje es perfecto porque en ningún momento se ve sobreactuado y eso es para mí algo válido al interpretar a este tipo de personajes.
The story is the most surprising thing about this series, as I said before reality and fiction run on the same path and at times it seems that what happens in this story seems to be based on a real event; I think for people who like to use (well or bad) social networks, they can see similarities to what can be achieved while viewing apps created to socialize and often we see that being sociable is the least we observe and more when there is a theme about a fandom defending who they love the most; this in part is the story which the main character takes from the dependence of believing or loving someone to perform a kind of crusade to create a kind of justice against those who have done a harm to the one they admire. This is a story that is not at all about someone who is mentally healthy.
The performances are very good especially that of Dominique Fishback as "Dre"; much of the story is told from her point of view and that is fascinating because her character is not at all someone stable; she is a lonely woman, quiet, afraid of contact with other people, she is not someone who is prepared for that and it is very evident of her character, but that is not her main characteristic, since she is very dependent and the moments of independence, at the end will always be motivated by the direct command or not of other people; the performance of Fishback is very credible, her evolution of the character is perfect because at no time she looks overacted and that is for me something valid when playing this kind of characters.
Esta es una gran producción la cual me sorprende que no tenga más alcance como si muchas otras; una producción de calidad en todos los ámbitos y por eso la considero de lo mejor de este año; Swarm es un claro ejemplo o sátira de como funciona las redes sociales y los fandoms que hacen vida en esos lugares, su manera de actuar sea en apoyo o en ataque es algo que no deja de sorprenderme y no diré que personalmente esté ajeno a eso, pero creo que no hay un público en dónde no existe límites y puede ser muy peligroso; justamente eso es lo que me gusta de esta serie que usa elementos verdaderos para recrear en esta historia sucesos que pueden pasar en cualquier momento y eso hace que el elemento de terror en esta serie sea muy bueno aunque no deja atrás la comedia y créanme que hay episodios dónde la comedia oscura es de lo mejor. En mi opinión tanto Glover como Nabers crearon una buena historia que no sé si tenga una continuación, si la tiene créanme que estaré motivado a verla con muchas expectativas y si deciden no hacer más, entonces esta es una historia perfecta, con muchos elementos muy bien usados para relatar un thriller psicológico, satírico, con terror y humor. Solo queda invitarlos a ver esta serie para que disfruten una buena manera de relatar este tipo de historias.
This is a great production which surprises me that it does not have more scope as if many others; a quality production in all areas and that is why I consider it one of the best of this year; Swarm is a clear example or satire of how social networks work and the fandoms that make life in those places, their way of acting either in support or in attack is something that never ceases to amaze me and I will not say that personally I am alien to that, but I think there is a public where there are no limits and can be very dangerous; that's exactly what I like about this series that uses real elements to recreate in this story events that can happen at any time and that makes the horror element in this series is very good although it does not leave behind the comedy and believe me there are episodes where the dark comedy is the best. In my opinion both Glover and Nabers created a good story that I don't know if it will have a continuation, if it does believe me I will be motivated to watch it with high expectations and if they decide not to do more, then this is a perfect story, with many elements very well used to tell a psychological thriller, satirical, with terror and humor. It only remains to invite you to watch this series to enjoy a good way to tell this kind of stories.
