    Not quite the Original.

I first saw this on TV back in the 1970's I think, I didn't realise until sometime after that is was made in the 1930's. Somehow I don't see anyone making a film like this these days, society, and the film industry have come a long way since then. The more modern version with Russell Crowe didn't really do it for me, it didn't have the same feel.

Here we have nobleman Sir Robin of Locksley whom supports the rightful King Richard. King Richard was supposedly captured overseas and his brother Prince John decides to take the throne for himself.

Prince John in an effort to quell anyone disputing his rule oppresses the Saxons. Sir Robin however being a Saxon, openly opposes Prince John's rule, and hence breaks the law, hence he is now an outlaw.

Slowly he recruits other members to his cause including Maid Marian. The group win the population over by robbing from the rich and giving to the poor. Robin always manages to escape capture and undermine Prince John. In the end King Richard does return, and restores Robin's status.

This is a good family movie, as there isn't much that is bound to upset the little people. It does have some nice "sword" fighting scenes along with a bit of humour thrown in. Still one of the movies I do like.
