I always wondered, can a superhero be 100% good? He silently questioned it as he watched every Marvel movie, from Spider-Man to Captain America, each with unimpeachable ethics and morals, not to mention his immense love for humanity. The difficult truth is that there are all kinds of heroes, good and not so good, some even fake their goodness. No human being can be perfect, and obviously, no one is safe from mistakes. So I sincerely believe that superheroes can also be imperfect, and if they existed, it would be a real disaster. Can you imagine it? I do not. XD
I prefer to watch them from the comfort of the cinema and popcorn!
I won't lie, I watch Marvel and DC, but more but mere entertainment than looking for solemnity in an increasingly lazy American cinema. At least, the recurrent and very stretched heroic scenario has served as inspiration for satire and black comedies. Every time the antihero thesis is reinforced and, to be honest, I like it to happen. An example is The Boys, have you seen it? Curiously, I'm just starting it, and yet, without knowing that said television series existed (or rather streaming, XD), I found out about a story inspired by said universe, its name: Diabolical.

Despite the fact that Diabolical and The Boys are intertwined in the same universe, the first one I mentioned is an animated series with a bit of what I like: humor, gore and twisted, crazy and morally creepy stories. It is a work for adults, and perhaps for those who hate superheroes, XD. In 8 short episodes you learn life lessons in wacky scenarios, whether it's with a baby ripper or a shy girl whose best friend is hers...poop? LOL.
Diaboical is an antilogy; each episode has its own story arc, connected only by The Boys universe reference. Everything takes place in a society where the Superheroes are essentially the absolute truth, specifically a certain "Squadron of seven". The piece that connects everything is Substance V, a kind of blue liquid with the power to endow anyone with "extraordinary powers", or at least if they are lucky because the substance can bring adverse effects and even use your worst weakness to transform her into a monster.
Everything revolves around substance V and the Vought corporation, however, the episodes focus on showing us the imperfect, wild, selfish and pretentious side of every individual, even those who can't seem to kill a fly. The animated series loudly reminds you that you can never escape your own demons, even these can materialize in a deceptive way to draw non-existent illusions in your head. In Diabolical there is no middle ground between good and bad, and humor appears to confuse the ideas in your head. The message, then, becomes twisted.

I had previously seen Love, Death & Robots, I could even say that Diabolical tends to seek the same essence as the netflix series. However, both are different in the depth of their scenarios. While in one the human perception is criticized, in the other it is ridiculed. It is enough to watch a few episodes of Diabolical to understand that those who boast of being the best are nothing more than monsters disguised as harmless Samaritans.
And yet, the animated series makes you understand the terrible condition of cause and effect: no one is born bad or good, but others can guide you to one of the two paths, either by choice or by force. Diabolical, in this sense, takes us on a journey through human darkness, that which is born of suffering, loneliness and the need for love... even love is a deadly addiction from which very few can be saved.
My Favorite Episodes
One of the episodes that fascinated me the most was John and Sun-Hee, a wonderful story that delves into the horror of love, loss and illness. To what extent are we willing to give everything for our loved ones? We will do the impossible as long as there is a way to keep them with us, because it is difficult to let go of the warmth with which they surround us. The story of Jonh and his beloved is precisely the struggle between life and death, drawn in a context where decisions and destiny repel each other like two magnets from the same pole. The best thing, in any case, is to accept reality and love while you can.
In Laser Baby`s Day Out, on the other hand, we get to know the inspired compassion of the father figure. A humor of two: a wretch and a baby with laser beams in his eyes. Both are connected by the same world: they are rejected and useless, or at least one of them is. It is easy to connect with people who suffer, in one way or another, from the same problems as us. Guts and blood, and an animation similar to the adventures of Looney Tunes, are enough to carry out an animated short with enough grace to enjoy.
Sometimes we feel excluded from society, perhaps hypnotized by the wrong idea of popularity and friendship for convenience. BBFs is an episode of Diabolical that points in this direction, arguing loneliness as a treasure in the face of destructive friendships, idealizing the axis of "there is something special in you" to lead us to an unusual reflection, very unusual. LOL. The satire behind this episode is definitely disgusting even though it aims to be cute. SKY's story and her living poop (I'm not kidding) will take you on an atypical adventure of self-love.
But definitely the episode that I prefer is I`M Your Pusher, because this is the prelude to what The Boys, the series, tries to show with its story of false heroes. The grotesque image of true superheroes impacts from the appearance of that mysterious character and his dog, and behind it, the intentions of ending the image that The Seven, that inept squad, have impregnated the world in the name of their atrocities. The message: your flaws are your downfall, or at least the bridge that can land you a sure fall.
Why do I recommend Diabolical?
Diabolical is a short animated series, and that is a plus point for lovers of minimalist but solemn stories. Every episode in this universe of infamy, glitches and misfortunes is filled with an unusual, strange, damaging yet extraordinary context. Black humor and gore dance in a choreography that is not only committed to sporadic entertainment. Here it is not about learning a life lesson, rather about making fun of it. That's what a universe appeals to where heroism, in any case, is a real attraction for tiny brains, at least in this series, of course, XD.
