    ▶️ Watch on 3Speak

Hello friends of Hive, in this opportunity I want to share with you some curiosities of the Latin Spanish dubbing of the simpsons. Many times the language is modified to adapt to the expressions used by the population according to their culture and geographic location. For what there is in the dubbing is not everything is literal and therefore I have been curious to discover some words, names or expressions that are obviously different from the original language of the series.

    Yop copia.jpg

Therefore, today I chose 3 scenes, which caught my attention, and I gave myself the task of looking for the scenes in English language to buy them with the dubbing scenes.

In the first scene we can see Mr. Burns, who impersonates a Mr. Bolainas in a meeting at the town hall to propose that a money that the people have received, be invested in the nuclear plant, obviously is rejected and is forced to flee in a rather peliculezca way, in the end they end up investing the money in a Monkey Rail, which turns out to be a scam poor citizens of Srpingfield.

The name Mr. Bolainas uses in English is Mr. Snrub, or Burns in reverse.

The second scene is from an episode where Homer is banned from Moe's bar, for playing a joke in which he ends up filling the bar with sugar, Moe and all the drunks are very severe with Homer and expel him from the bar, Homer tries to find another bar, but is unsuccessful. Surprisingly the exact double of Homer appears, called Cosme Fulanito, who enters Moe's tavern, and expelled with blows, because they believe that it is Homer in disguise, and it turns out that it is not.

The name in English is not Cosme Fulanito, but Guy Incognito, crazy, surely there is some movie reference behind that name.

And finally we have the scan in which Milhouse says that Marge is hot, I was very curious to know what he said in English and it is even worse or more direct, because he says that she is hot or Sexy, "i think she's hot". In the Latin dubbing, the phrase is camouflaged by saying that he was trying to make it rhyme, but in English Milhouse says it came out, quite a confession.

  2. Revisting the 'Treehouse of Horror' Episodes of The Simpsons@namiks993d

    vlcsnap-2023-10-09-19h29m40s598.png

Every year I try to make the month of October a bit of an event. The autumn season is my favourite of the year, and while I never really did anything specifically for Halloween night, it led to me using my love for shows and films (and sometimes games) to appreciate the atmosphere of Halloween instead. So, each year, I typically find something related to Halloween to watch each day, of course this ends up being a bit difficult as various thrillers and horrors run dry, leaving behind mostly just the opportunity to rewatch the films and shows I have before countless times. It has made watching things around Halloween a little more repetitive, unfortunately. Though today I did spend a few hours playing Team Fortress 2 with the yearly Halloween update, that's always fun. And yet this produced a nostalgia in me, not wanting to watch something genuinely scary and dark, but wanting that fun aspect of Halloween. Something light, cartoonish, but rich in the various themes Halloween has to offer: ghosts, witches, pumpkins and zombies. All of that fun!

I remembered that Disney+ has what the call 'Collections', these are curated episodes around specific themes from various shows. They're pretty useful in regards to finding episodes just like the ones I wanted to watch, but the downside is that these Collections don't autoplay each episode after the last, instead they just take you to the specific season and play the following episode. A little annoying, leading to having to go back, find the collection in the UI again, then choose the next episode. Still, the idea behind these curated options is nice, and I look forward to going through the Halloween one in general later. Today, though, I couldn't help but want to rewatch through the many Treehouse of Horror episodes of The Simpsons I had managed to forget about over the years. These are fun, yearly events where the creators would have even more fun with the show, telling a few short stories around Halloween themes using their inspirations in media. I'm curious as to how the more modern ones hold up compared to the older ones, and I might get to that point later on; The Simpsons has a lot of seasons, after all. And means many Treehouse of Horror episodes!

    Treehouse of Horror

    vlcsnap-2023-10-09-19h29m34s966.png

Something I love about the Treehouse of Horror (and general) episodes of The Simpsons is how each one feels different, and you never really know what stories are going to be told. Sometimes, it is clear that the show is just loosely following a hit film, show, or book that the writers have taken inspiration from, for example one of the earlier episodes is basically following the idea of The Shining, in which Homer, with no beer or television, makes Homer go crazy. The use of various inspirations from existing stories never feels like that're copying or being lazy, more so just paying homage to these creations while showing the characters of the show getting into their own shenanigans. Though not every episode is like this, sometimes the show will tell completely original stories based on specific themes in the world and around Halloween. I quite like this mixed back of completely original ideas and inspired ones, naturally some will be weaker, but it means that (hopefully) you end up finding some strong ones too. And without a linear story, you can pick them up from any place.

For special event episodes, the quality of the show isn't decreased at all, instead it seems like it is increased in regards to creativity. Pushing itself beyond the somewhat grounded world of The Simpsons (somewhat grounded, of course) and introducing even more idiocy and fun. Especially when it comes to the intro scenes and the styles. It was only the other year that the more modern writers of The Simpsons basically turned the show into an anime with a short story portraying a The Simpsons version of Death Note. This is pretty much what I mean in regards to the show being more open, doing differing things, while still being a whole lot of fun. This is more evident in how The Simpsons displays violence; the show was once quite ridiculed for being excessive in violence and the portrayal of it; so they went ahead and made it even more violent. Cartoonish gore, more blood and knives and axes, the undead, and with more mockery of reality. Though I suspect a lot of the references from older episodes may get lost in time when it comes to younger audiences now. A lot of events, celebrity references, political jokes. Even the credits themselves are jokes; the most recent episode has someone credited where it just says to short Bitcoin.

There's a certain charm to these episodes. Something other animations haven't quite managed to capture when they follow in similar steps. I think it's the ways in which it isn't afraid to tell stories that don't really haven't anything to do with the main timeline of the show, it isn't afraid to kill off characters or show the weirdest universes imaginable. In a way, these Treehouse of Horror episodes are almost like their own show. I think this is what I always liked about them, how these episodes are often just multiple short stories thrown together just for fun, taking a step back from the usual setup. Each with their own little twists and turns and little quirks. I love the old television production style of having a narrator introduce the show, telling us about the story or the general moral. Something absolutely phased out into the modern day. Think The Twilight Zone for a little more context.

Out of curiosity, I even watched one from the 33rd season. I expected the worst, but it still held up. Albeit with less charm given the flatter and more colourful look of the animation. But in terms of story, it was all there still. But I can't help but feel that the best episodes are from the earlier seasons, where the colours are darker and the Halloween aesthetic really shines through it. Dark, gritty, and with that old boxed aspect ratio. Unfortunately, Disney+ changed the aspect ratio to something wider, so those older episodes still look a little off. But hey, they're still a bunch of fun and it's nice that Disney put in the minimum effort to give us a collection that tells us which episodes these Treehouse of Horror episodes are. If only the navigation to watch them one after the other wasn't a nightmare itself.

Anyway, if you want something fun and maybe don't like the horror and thriller genres, this might be good for you! It's all atmosphere and fun, under the familiarity of The Simpsons. Great going into Halloween. East to watch with short episodes and shorter stories in them, and of course with lots of laughs.

  3. The Simpsons 8x23: Homer's Enemy – Opinion [ENG-ESP]@soldierofdreams997d

I wasn't planning to make an opinion about this episode until I watched it again, and deciphered that message that in my adolescence I was unable to reason clearly. Perhaps adult reasoning allowed me to attend to the darker details of Homer's Enemy, the episode that chronicles ignorance under the uncomfortable shadow of intellectuality and hubris. It's funny that something so serious can make you laugh, even more so when there are accurate references to a world plagued by injustice without meritocracy. The problem is:

How to deal with these injustices?

Therein lies the dilemma behind the atypical battle between Frank Grimes and Homer Simpson. One with enough intelligence for evolution, and the other with an idiot brain (with pardon the word) with which he has gained a great position just for being a nice guy, but not for that reason less dumb. Does it smell like reality? You'll know what I mean. (laughter attached)

¿Huele a realidad? Ya sabrán a qué me refiero. (Risas Adjuntas)

    fionna & (6).png Canvas

Homer Simpson is in charge of security at the nuclear plant in Springfield, the worst part of the case is that he has neither a degree nor the proper training for the position he holds. In the episode we are told, by Carl and Lenny (both characters of the series), that this nice chubby guy got his job because he attended the first day they opened the nuclear plant and that's how he got the job, XD. This is where the plot of the episode comes in, which is:

"Frank Grimes, a hapless man who worked hard to achieve his degree in the nuclear field, is hired by Mr. Burns to be vice president of his nuclear plant. This decision stemmed from Grimes' motivating story of his rough passage through life. However, a sudden change of decision by Burns (who ends up falling in love with the bravery of a dog) results in Grimes being assigned to a lower-ranking position, where he will run into Homer Simpson, the one who with little merit and no effort has achieved much more than him..."

    homervsgrimes1.png Imdb

Grimes, a person with common sense, knows that Homer is not the best man for a position of great responsibility. Trying to make everyone see what no one wants to see, he begins to question Homer and hates him for having achieved a good position by being an arrogant ignoramus. However, Homer just wants to be a nice guy to Grimes, unaware that his good intentions provoke more hate instead of love.

Grimes succumbs to frustration, for in addition to Homer being a fool, those around seem to love the smell of ignorance he gives off. They applaud his nonsense and see him as a cool, gentle guy, and even a role model. Here I noticed an anthology to that popular phrase that goes as follows: "Work Hard and you will achieve what you want." Frank Grimes worked hard and only got failures, Homer didn't work hard at all and had a better job position than him. However, the mistake was not Homer's... and I'll tell you why.

    20231006_001745_938.jpg Imdb

Frank Grimes tried so hard to get people to recognize that Homer was ignorant that it drove him to madness. Homer was not the problem: the problem came from those who applauded Homer. More troubling are those who wish to sink with the ship, than the one who sank it. Grimes was upset by something meaningless and worthless, trying to be recognized in a place where ability and talent were not the main idealisms of progress. And that drove him (attention Spoilers, XD) to his grave.

I must admit that this episode is a metaphorical genius of meritocracy in a world that is becoming more and more ignorant. I say so myself, who has a bus driver for president, hahaha. I mean, if anything, the beauty of recognizing this:

"Don't waste your hard work in a place where they praise shoddy work... ".

This is television, I know, but that doesn't make it any less real. I laughed a lot at the episode and Homer's innocence (or ignorance, XD), and I paid close attention to the frustration of his nemesis, or his antithesis. I think no matter how hard we try, sometimes people will not see the truth because they prefer the self-imposed blindfold. In any case, the idea is to broaden aspects, with that reference of black humor that leaves us this small fragment of what represents the philosophy of the Simpsons.

The relfexion, if we leave aside the satire, is simple: don't be like Frank Grimes, XD. That is, don't live off the ignorance of others. Better get out of the way, and let them go down with their ship, ;-).

I've been busy lately and my movie to-do list is still on hold. For now, my free time is divided into lunch hours, that is, they are the moments in which I can watch or enjoy some television, although the only thing I watch (perhaps out of habit, XD) are the Simpsons, at least the old seasons. I have taken some interest in some of its episodes; I never watched this TV show analyzing its apparent philosophy, however, I think that this time I have paid a lot of attention to the mess of the lively American family with the longest history in the entertainment industry. There is a chapter that curiously shows activism against violence... another accurate prediction? That is what I am about to tell you.

    20230505_234453_0000.png Canvas

“Itchy & Scratchy & Marge” is one of the oldest episodes of The Simpsons; at that time the television show was only in its second season, and this is its ninth episode. For those who have seen this animated series, you will notice that each character fills a different role: Homer the carefree father, Marge the consistent mother, Lisa the genius girl, Bart the rebellious boy and Maggie… well, Maggie is just Maggie, hahaha. The plot of this episode addresses the problem of violence in cartoons, and how they can damage children's minds. In short, this is the plot:

After Homer was attacked by Maggie in a parodied scene from the movie "Psycho," Marge blames the animated show "Itchy & Scratch" for her little baby's aggressive behavior. Determined to end violence on television, Marge campaigns against the studios that give life to "Itchy & Scratchy" promoting strong activism with the rest of the parents of Springfield so that the producers eliminate all traces of blows and hatred in said cartoon. After a successful campaign Marge achieves her goals, however, an unexpected work of art arrives in Springfield to change all her plans.

    Screenshot_2023-05-05-23-36-45-852-edit_com.android.chrome.jpg Imdb

The conception of violence on television will always be in the eye of the hurricane; however, it must be clear when it is bad and when it is not... precisely, that scope of what is "forbidden" a priori is complex. Art can be configured according to the mind of its author, and can sometimes include controversial, absurd or irresponsible themes. In my time there were violent but funny cartoons, although there were fathers or mothers who, like Marge, were against it. The maternal or paternal protective sense will try, in most cases, to keep their little children away from danger under the premise: violent children's programs can generate violent behavior. It is real? It's false?

Now, the vision of the episode "Itchy & Scratchy & Marge" is oriented, at least for me, in the disproportion of activism. Marge only wanted to eliminate violence on children's television, however, that was the starting point for banning anything, even a highly regarded work of art like Michelangelo's David. I speak of "protesting nonsense" taking advantage of that blank sheet that she does not say to what extent something stops being good and becomes bad. Then the contradictions arrive: aren't we already familiar with them? At least yes in the current rampant activism, Hahaha.

    20230505_233822_272.jpg Imdb

In fact, the episode refers to the humorous disproportion that invades the mind when something relatively insignificant can become a topic for debate. At some point, although the activism may have a notable reach, the results will not be all good. Since how many years has there been no protest for a world without pollution? It is not that I say that it is wrong to do it, since I consider myself a lover of nature, but it will be difficult to achieve a change in this regard. Marge didn't make it in her fight against violence in cartoons, and then she even ended up contradicting herself.

What I like about this episode is that satire on activism; sometimes with disdain and others with sanity. Perhaps up to a certain point the protest for noble reasons can give its results; Television influences human behavior in a certain way, although it all depends on the vision one has. In the end, Marge learned a lesson that we all have learned: the system is so flexible that for better or worse, it ends up being the same. Some good causes are clouded by other bad ones, that will always exist, even in social movements.

    20230505_233758_182.jpg Imdb

Vuelvo a preguntar: ¿Es real?

Si has visto “Itchy & Scratchy & Marge” me encantarìa saber tu opinión también.

I think The Simpsons was so popular for its satire on human themes that it's still a trend today. Perhaps that is why so many things have been right, such as the Trump presidency. It is a simple analysis of human behavior, sometimes displayed incoherently, but even from humor the purest truths are shown.

"Itchy & Scratchy & Marge" is an episode that marks an incredible view on television, violence, activism and contradiction, partly because of the ridiculed sensitivity towards issues that even go unnoticed. In these times of so many disagreements between what can and cannot be seen in the entertainment industry, one easily identifies with criticism of absurd protests. If you like something you see it, if not you don't... some understand it, others decide to campaign. I ask again: is it real? It's false? Can a simple cartoon change your mindset? I just enjoy the show, the rest I leave to science, hahaha.

Thirty-three years after the episode, it seems that things have not changed or have gotten worse. What do you think? If you have seen “Itchy & Scratchy & Marge” I would love to know your opinion too.

  5. Revisiting 'The Simpsons': A childhood favourite@namiks1326d

    Screenshot 2022-11-10 193410.png

I have been feeling a bit lost on what to watch as of late. Feeling the itch to watch something a bit different to what I usually would but also not wanting to put in the effort to search for it. I have been watching the third season of American Horror Story -- I did start the most recent season which is currently airing, but that really failed to pull me in -- and sometimes an episode of Ghosts when a new episode is out. For some reason I decided to check out Star Wars: Andor merely out of curiosity in regards to the lighting given I know someone that worked on it, with much of its production taking place in the United Kingdom. Other than that? Well, not much, really. A few episodes of Vienna Blood, but not really anything else. I haven't felt like browsing through streaming services and their libraries, nor have I really been in the mood for watching anything all that serious.

Well, plastered across the main page of Disney+ is of course going to be The Simpsons. Everyone's favourite, but a favourite that has definitely fallen from its mighty high as the seasons have dragged on and the creators have gone the route of agenda pushing and politics. Heavily ignoring the modern seasons so far, I have decided to go back into The Simpsons and enjoy its earlier seasons. Not starting from the very first episode and season, but instead picking random episodes from random seasons and just relaxing with it. Though I admit I did watch some of the Treehouse of Horror episodes going into Halloween!

I'm not new to The Simpsons, however. This cartoon series has been one very close to me growing up. I recall spending evenings watching it when it aired around 6PM. Always searching for channels that would air multiple episodes rather than just one per day. If I was lucky, I could catch a few airing around 8PM on a different channel. I was pretty into the show, as many others were at a young age. I even still have a Bart Simpson pencil case that I discovered recently. Though in better quality than it should be given I hardly bothered attending classes, but that's a different story!

    The Simpsons

    Screenshot 2022-11-10 193323.png

Revisiting The Simpsons has been a really refreshing experience, being capable of choosing a random episode and just sitting down to enjoy it knowing nothing is being missed makes the whole viewing experience more relaxing. It has made me long for more shows like this that just do their own thing each episode with a wide range of characters and stories, but ultimately cycling back to the realisation that the show can do anything it wants while still being serious sometimes. In a way it makes the world it takes place in feel more alive, full of stories and events taking place all at once. Sometimes focusing on these less important characters as to not exhaust the potential of others. I guess I can understand why the decline of the show took place, given it seems there is only so much you can do with it all until you run out of ideas and need to pull inspiration in from real life. Though The Simpsons always did this to some degree, mocking real people and events, sometimes being a bit political but in a way that doesn't push an agenda. This makes those moments easy to ignore and brush aside. Which is nice if you want to just laugh and enjoy some dumb humour.

And dumb humour is everything in The Simpsons. I find it interesting how easily a series of characters have been built each on their own silly characteristics while still offering something to the show. It shows the creative strengths of a good set of writers that knew the characters and really thought about how to go about telling their stories in these many episodes, but also making them very human at the same time. It is easy to feel something for them, to end up loving them despite their many flaws. They may be used to poke fun at and get cheap laughs, but we often cycle back to them on a human level that shows emotion, growth, and how they persevere in the face of challenge. It ensures we have characters that we can also learn from and relate to, being capable of looking at characters and saying: "Hey, I know someone just like that!". This strong writing extends beyond giving an audience the ability to laugh at, relate to, and feel for characters of varying types. It reaches us as the audience to such an extent that we can sit down and watch the showa and find solace in it.

Though we see the show take on directions that allow it to relax and just have fun, showing episodes and stories of everyday life, while also pulling interest from fantasy stories and references to freshen things up and pull focus away from the more serious tones of character development. Those Treehouse of Horror episodes being a great example: holiday themed episodes that take inspiration from media we all love, but taking its own spin on things to still loosen up and have fun. I really struggle to think of shows that are similar in this regard, and perhaps the only ones I can really think of and compare it to are Psych and Futurama -- but I would say Futurama hardly counts given it has the same creator!

It is the show's ability to relax and have fun with its characters that allows it to be a classic. Something you can revisit multiple times throughout the years and still feel as if you have never actually seen it before. Sure you may remember some episodes and their general themes, but the comedy finds a way to seep through and humour you in a way you hadn't noticed before -- that includes the more adult themes that you definitely would have missed watching it when you were younger. This show really managed to get away with some jokes! Part of me remains curious as to how those very recent episodes are, but having seen some, I know that same magic definitely isn't there anymore. So if you're looking to watch the show, I would suggest just starting from the very first episode or sticking to watching the episodes before a certain season. I have seen a lot of people excited about that Death Note themed episode, however. I might check that one out myself too out of curiosity.

Have anyone of you revisted The Simpsons? How're you finding it now you're older? Do you have any fond memories of watching it growing up? Have you seen the more recent seasons of the show, if you have, what do you think of them?

Hello, people of the internet, all right? Today I wanted to talk to you about the most popular yellow family on TV. The Simpsons is one of the most famous comedy tv shows and also one of the best.

This time I'm not going to talk about the technicalities of the show and its components, but I will talk about what I like about the show and about my favourite episodes.

    image.png

I think one of the attractions of the show is its black humour, it literally satirizes every aspect of humanity (religion, politics, entertainment) they even mess with their own distribution company, it was the precursor series of this type of comedy and the truth is that although it is not as good as it used to be, it still has its charm.

I think, the Latin spanish dubbing gave it many jokes that were not in the original language and with which I died laughing, I leave you one of my favourites:

Not to mention that in the same episode there is a scene with Marge that makes you laugh too much because it is with the same phrase.

Part of its success has also been the development of the characters, all of whom in their own way are quite charismatic and funny in their own way. My favourite character is Homer because I feel that because of his stupidity he is the funniest, and the lines of his jokes are the best. Here are my favourite scenes.

Undoubtedly this show was part of my adolescence and still accompanies me in my adulthood, it is tremendously fun, funny and so well done that you can watch the episodes a thousand times and you will laugh every time. What is your favourite episode or scene?

  7. The Simpsons: I love Lisa - A heartwarming episode. (Review)@richardalexis1858d

    Los Simpsons Temporada 4 Image.jpg

If you ask me, one of the most interesting animated series in all of history is the Simpsons, why? Thought in the first place as a simultaneous satire of sitcom culture and middle-class American life (with all the social criticism that goes with it) in its long and debatably abusive duration, it has managed to tell hundreds of stories, some of them are interesting enough. enough to deserve a deep analysis.

    Captura de pantalla 2021-05-27 15.12.43.png

The fourth season episode, "I Love Lisa" fits this description perfectly. Giving the spotlight to Ralph Wiggum, one of the most prominent childhood characters of the first seasons, we have in front of us one of the most tender portraits that have ever been told on television.

After a somewhat bitter Valentine's Day, without receiving a love letter, Lisa is moved, and decides to give him one of her own.

This action, of course, is totally misinterpreted by Ralph, who assumes that Lisa is in love with her.

    Captura de pantalla 2021-05-27 15.12.56.png

The chain of events that continues, of course, is most disastrous, after Ralph invites Lisa to Krusty's show, where she explodes and breaks her heart.

In the rest of the episode we explore the mourning process that involves a love disappointment at such an early age, which is represented very realistically.

And although I am not in the mood to spoil, I always loved the resolution of the episode, human and organic, understanding the importance of friendship and love at an early age, respecting its characters.

    Captura de pantalla 2021-05-27 15.13.15.png

The Simpsons are at their best when they tell intimate stories that highlight the faults and virtues of their characters, when they have the facility to make us connect with them and understand why they act the way they do.

Ralph, in his infinite innocence, is a Child who grows organically, and it is always appreciated when a series has the courage to make us complicit in this. Although at present it seems that they have more failures than achievements, the yellow family continues to give much to talk about.

  8. Another great episode of The Simpsons: Bart of Darkness.@richardalexis1892d

    Captura de pantalla 2021-04-23 12.57.36.png

    Separador.png

For me there is something special in the episodes of the Simpsons that focus on the children of the Simpson family, especially in the earlier seasons of the series, in Bart Of Darkness, first episode of the sixth season, Bart and Lisa beg Homer by a swimming pool to deal with the heat, which ends up starting a chain of unfortunate events.

    Captura de pantalla 2021-04-23 12.57.18.png

This is one of those episodes where I feel that all the stories are fun and meaty, in its first half, it tells us the rise in popularity of Bart and Lisa, and connects with the second part of the chapter when Bart, trying to jump into the The pool that gave them this popularity ends up breaking a leg.

Bart, bored from his room begins to spy on his neighbors with a telescope, at this moment he begins to suspect that Ned Flanders killed his wife. A plot that manages to perfectly balance the absurd with the realistic (coming from the mind of a child) Bart of Darkness is a thesis on how to write a good episode of the Simpsons, the gags are ingenious and interconnect with each other, and always they operate within perfectly understandable logical rules.

    Captura de pantalla 2021-04-23 12.57.42.png

I especially like how Bart's paranoia is shown and since we are never manipulated into believing something beyond what there is, we know that it makes no sense for Ned Flanders to be a murderer but we understand Bart's perspective, enhanced by his boredom.

It is easy to see when the script for the Simpsons was full of quality writers, it is something that currently is not very easy and that makes me appreciate these old seasons too much.

The plot of the pool, although it is abandoned in the middle of the chapter, is fun and reflects a reality that many children face, where material positions or the absence of these are what determine their place in society.

Overall a solid chapter that I would like to see more often on lists of the best Simpsons episodes.

    Separador.png

  9. [ENG/ESP] The Simpsons didn't predict anything.@richardalexis1895d

    Separador.png

The Simpsons are one of the most recognizable animated series in the world, the impact of this family could be equated with giants like Mickey Mouse, Bugs Bunny or more recently SpongeBob.

Of course, the debate about its quality always becomes heated, considering its long duration and the evident desire to continue expanding it, it is no secret that the new seasons have lost part of the spark that made the first ones one of the most brilliant sitcoms of the world. However, The Simpsons always manage to stay in the center of the conversation, a giant of pop culture that does not lose steam.

One of the drivers of this conversation has always been the belief that the Simpsons can predict the future, a belief that is supported by a series of "predictions", events in the canon present or sometimes future of the series that end up happening in real life.

    [Imagen](https://globalnews.ca/news/3068103/the-simpsons-responds-to-its-prediction-of-donald-trump-presidency/)

My idea is not to aggressively deny the ability that according to the Internet the Simpsons have to predict things, but to explain why on a personal level (based on facts and a brief analysis) it does not make sense. Still, I find it fun to read people theorizing about it, and I feel that although it is not true it does show us the brilliant ability that a good team of writers has in satirizing the American way of life.

It is not a criticism of those who enjoy reading these things, much less those who write them, it is just my little contribution in the conversation.

For my post I will take 3 predictions (of the most common) and comment on why I think they do not make sense:

It should be taken into account that currently the Simpsons has more than 700 episodes, if we connect this with the fact that one of its functions is to be a satire of American culture, in times as crazy as those we live in, it is not particularly difficult to predict something .

    The presidency of Donald Trump

I quite like this one because it perfectly demonstrates the previous point, for those who live outside the United States, American politics might seem like a joke, and the truth is, things are quite crazy there.

    [Imagen](https://twitter.com/mhhhm_ok/status/1326150299338366976?lang=cs)

In the episode Bart To The Future, where we can observe the future of the Simpson Family: Lisa is declared the first heterosexual female president of the United States and a brief reference is made to the presidency of Donald Trump. This episode curiously dates back to the year 2000, in the 11th season ... long before Trump even had a chance to announce that he was running for president.

So, what happened here? Without detracting from the ability of the Simpsons to guess something like this, it should be noted that Donald Trump is not an apparition of this last decade, on the contrary, he is a businessman who has been relevant since a long time ago.

An article by Perfil mentions that Trump had more than 30 years involved in politics and although early in his career he denied that he was going to run the spark was always there.

Again, it is not intended to detract from the ability of the Simpsons writers, but it was a joke based on a reality that many feared and unfortunately - for many, I do not generalize - it was fulfilled.

    The attack of 9/11

I chose this one because I feel that to deny it they apply totally different rules to the previous one, the "prediction" of the attack on the twin towers in "The City of New York vs. Homer Simpson ”manages to be simultaneously one of the most far-fetched and difficult to correct predictions.

    [Imagen](https://spoiler.bolavip.com/extra/El-dia-que-Los-Simpson-predijeron-el-atentado-de-las-Torres-Gemelas-20200911-0011.html)

In the episode Bart holds in his hands a brochure of a bus trip that shows a number 9 next to a skyline of the city where the Twin Towers can be seen, the towers, of course they seem to draw a number 11.

For me this is due to an unfortunate coincidence, one of them after so many hundreds of chapters is not particularly difficult to find. The Twin Towers were a symbol of New York City, and it does not feel out of place that a skyline designed to represent it has them drawn almost in the middle, the 9 only adds fuel to the fire ... although as I say, this prediction is difficult to attack.

In terms of plot, the brochure is irrelevant and the atack is never adressed.

    Ebola

Again, as with the Trump presidency, it is the public's ignorance of the timeline of certain events that allows these predictions to take hold. In 1997, during the chapter "Lisa’s Sax", Marge suggests that Bart read a book to help him sleep, "Curious George and the Ebola virus" with a picture of Jorge sick.

    [Imagen](https://www.eonline.com/mx/news/587686/los-simpsons-predijeron-el-regreso-del-ebola-hace-17-anos-video)

As many know, Ebola broke out in Africa in 2014, causing hundreds of deaths, so did the Simpsons predict the future?

Although the virus gained strength In 2014, the first outbreaks date from 1976, this means that someone with knowledge of the disease could have included the joke without any problem.

The point is that although it is fun to talk about conspiracy theories it is also important to verify the facts, this does not seek to destroy the conversation but to nurture it, also it's important to recognize the brilliant work of the writers of the Simpsons. I hope you enjoyed this post, as well as I enjoyed researching to write it.

The predictions were taken from here and from here

    [Imagen](https://spoiler.bolavip.com/extra/El-dia-que-Los-Simpson-predijeron-el-atentado-de-las-Torres-Gemelas-20200911-0011.html)

    [Imagen](https://www.eonline.com/mx/news/587686/los-simpsons-predijeron-el-regreso-del-ebola-hace-17-anos-video)

  10. The Best Simpsons Episode - El mejor capitulo de los Simpsons@richardalexis1912d

Marge Be Not Proud, The Simpsons.

    Separador.png

    Imagen

Of course, since there are so many chapters (700 and counting) it is difficult for all his fans to agree on which is the best chapter: "Bart gets an F", "Homer's enemy", or the double special of "Who shot Mr. Burns? ", But my favorite is none of those.

"Marge Be Not Proud" is the seventh episode of the seventh season, written by Mike Scully and Directed by Steven Dean Moore. Marge Be Not Proud premiered in December 1995, within what is for me the best stage of the Simpsons , tells the story of how in the middle of Christmas Bart steals a video game from a shopping center, and how this disappoints Marge. It is very likely that many know this episode (even if they do not watch the series religiously, since FOX used to repeat it all the time)

    Imagen

For me, this is the best episode of the Simpsons.

Of course, it works in a number of ways, on a superficial level "Marge Be Not Proud" boasts the near-perfect rhythm of humor that only the Simpsons in their prime can deliver, delivering gag after gag, each one more iconic than the last. But for me the real reason why the episode works has to do more with the way feelings are represented, and how it is easy to feel identified with the sadness of disappointing your parents - not necessarily with a robbery -, that sometimes is harsher than any form of punishment.

Marge does not react aggressively, she simply doesn't know how to process the fact that at least for a few moments her son was a thief, and in contrast to this you can see Bart himself doing everything possible to hide the consequences of his actions, regreting almost instantly. It's a cartoon but it feels painfully human. And the ending -that I don't want to spoil to anyone who doesn't know the episode- ... makes anyone's heart wrinkle with tenderness.

Even casting a couple of criticisms for consumism culture and how they totally affect children's actions, not so many media pieces have managed to portray being a child so well, a child who makes mistakes, corrects, and moves on.

  11. Letting Go of The Simpsons@rvgenaille2982d

image I have always loved The Simpsons. I own most of the dvds, watched it religiously, still quote it or reference it from time to time. Probably still will. It’s that much a part of pop culture.

With that caveat, I now admit it is time to say goodbye to The Simpsons. Following the documentary, The Problem with Apu, a film exploring the South Asian stereotypes inherent in the character of Apu and how it affects actual South Asian people, the show and the show runners had the opportunity to speak up in a progressive way. They chose instead to blow off the criticism.

And then the creator, Matt Groening, added his two cents:

In an interview with USA Today, Groening is asked if he has any thoughts about the Apu criticism, to which he replies, "Not really. I’m proud of what we do on the show. And I think it’s a time in our culture where people love to pretend they’re offended."- https://www.esquire.com/entertainment/tv/a20087209/matt-groening-the-simpsons-apu-controversy/

The creators and creatives of the show don’t care that people are hurt by this characterization. Shamefully, I have never given much thought to it before. I have no excuse. I have none now but I have less ignorance and I need to say goodbye because I need not be a contributor to the harm.

"When someone says you are hurting them by your action, if you persist- then the harm becomes intentional."- Barbara Munson

Video from today with Hari's PBS interview

Throughout his career, comedian Hari Kondabolu has tackled the tough  topics of race and inequality in the U.S. His new documentary, “The  Problem With Apu,” looks at the character of Apu Nahasapeemapetilon on  “The Simpsons” -- a convenience store owner voiced by actor Hank Azaria  -- and the effect the show has had on portrayals of South Asians in  media.
