Have you ever been stuck in a dilemma of complex choice between knowing what to do, what to watch, or what will probably be the best watch for you in a given situation or emotional condition?
Well for me, that was my fate this hot sunny afternoon. With my recent break from my daytime job as a Chess Instructor in private schools due to the festive season in the air, I've had a lot of time to watch movies of all kinds, including series I have procrastinated about watching. It was really been refreshing for my mental health and well-being as a human being, and I can see why they say all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy or should say makes me a dull guy. Well, this is the logical explanation for why my blog has been filled with more movie reviews and even more to come. And my oh my, movies are truly a way to entertain the mind.
So back to the condition of the complex dilemma of choosing what to watch when it comes to Netflix or any other movie streaming app, where there can be numerous options on what to watch. I know right, it can be quite frustrating in knowing which to pick and even anticipating if the movie will be a great watch for your time. One trick which I developed and deployed today is focusing more on the actors and actor combination. When I say actor combination, I mean who are the several actors combined in making up the cast of the movie, are they people you love, admire or respect a lot because of their outstanding acting potential? It sounded funny at first to me when I came up with this trick but the moment I tried it out on a movie which turned out to be delightful and worthy of my time, I knew I had come up with a multi-million dollar solution in solving complexity in decision making for movie fanatics.
The first movie I got to pull up my solving formula on was THE TOURIST. Go back a few moments to the beginning of this review, you would remember that I told you I was challenged with what to watch, but the moment I saw the actor combination of Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie, damn, I knew this was a must watch for me and there is nothing that will stop my eyes for seeing the movie. Angelina Jolie, being the incredible actress that she is, I have always been a fan right from the moment I set my eyes on Mr. and Mrs. Smith, where she played the wife of a spy while also being a spy herself. I knew from that moment she was an actress I will surely have a strong respect for her movies. But what was the icing on the cake for me was discovering the presence of Johnny Depp in the same movie. From here, I knew there was no need at all to watch the movie's trailer on Youtube or read the movie's synopsis on Wikipedia. So I just began watching with immediate effect.
The movie has this unique provocation of passion flowing between the two lead characters. It was something like a mixture of intense romance that could only be seen in the love plays of William Shakespeare set in the environment of Venice, the city of lovers, and in return, what an irony cause the movie also has Venice as its setting. I just can fail to admit that the sumptuous feeling that got me going all through the movie was the killer suspense. The movie's story was so on point with the way it left me hanging and trying the find out who Alexander Pearce happened to be, which also served as the movie's action, and above all the intense sexual tension built between Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp which left me with the feeling please just make sweet love already. And as if that wasn't enough, the mad dynamic twist which serves as one of the best endings in a movie for me.
Yes, the movie had a slow start which could leave plenty of questions in a viewer's head but as the saying goes, just keep going and it will get clearer along the way. I was able to get a better understanding of the storyline which I would refer to as poetic if I'm permitted to use such a word. One thing I'm glad of is the fact that a close friend of mine who got the opportunity to watch the movie due to my recommendation and a little bit of hype here and there, was also starstruck with how the event of actions played out at the end. If I recall vividly well, her response was:
This movie is MAD.......
I can tell you, you needed to say the expression of joy written boldly all over my face. Oh yeah, it was something like the one the Argentinian footballers had on their faces for winning the World Cup.
