    Hello! 💙

After a successful first film and a Broadway musical that everyone loved, a sequel has arrived. At first glance, it might seem a little forced, since the play itself isn't as long as the two films combined. But the truth is that they manage to extend the story in a wonderful way, combining it with the classic story of The Wizard of Oz. And if you are a fan of the entire Wizard of Oz universe, have seen all the films, and even dressed up for the first one, you will find this magnificent.

I do think that the songs in the first film were much better done. The pace is a little faster in the first one, but the ending of this second part is still quite satisfying. If you don't like musicals at all, I don't recommend it because 70% of the movie is literally spent singing, even in any part of the story that needs development. They sing for a reason—it's a musical—but it's more invasive than normal, and I don't mean that as a bad thing. It will depend a lot on your tastes as a viewer.

I think that overall it's a good sequel. The points they decided to expand on are also quite good without feeling like they're dragging it out too much. The only detail is that the first part is better made, it has a slightly faster pace, you could say, or it feels that way. And the other detail is that if you haven't seen the first part, I doubt you'll understand very well what's going on in this second one, so to a certain extent it's mandatory to watch the That said, they do tell you bits and pieces of the first part from time to time, more or less putting you in context, but I do recommend watching the first part in order to understand the whole context of what happens in this second one. I would even dare to say that you should watch The Wizard of Oz to more or less understand the whole context of this film as such.

Wicked is one of Broadway's most famous and successful musicals and was brought to the big screen in 2024. It is based on the book Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West, written in 1995 by Gregory Maguire. It is the prequel that tells the story of the Wicked Witch of the West, known from The Wizard of Oz. This book was adapted into a musical in 2003, starring Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth, who are giants known for their voices and acting abilities.

When the adaptation was made for the big screen, the auditions for the cast were fierce, because the opportunity to play such distinguished characters, who also had high-profile predecessors, set the bar very high. But they did a wonderful job and chose Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba and Ariana Grande as Glinda. Both have had quite successful musical and acting careers, although Ariana, in particular, had not acted for many years, but she returned to show how talented she is.

    Spanish

Está basado en el libro Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West, escrito en 1995 por Gregory Maguire.

    image.png

The story focuses on explaining the reasons why someone becomes so evil. The background story, the family that surrounds them, or how others treat them for whatever reason, such as the green skin color Elphaba was born with. It also shows that just because you look beautiful or appear to be a pink fairy, it doesn't mean you are naturally good like Glinda, who is often mean and ruthless. There is a duality in both stories that intertwine, where neither ends up being completely evil, nor the other completely good. It is just a fight against injustices that can lead you to act in the way you think is best. It all depends on the lens through which you see it and which side of the story you are on.

As for the production, I understand that a studio and very little CGI were used to make this film, which I love, because it feels and looks like an old movie, evoking the golden years of cinema; the era when films like The Wizard of Oz were successful.

    image.png

And this, of course, is a musical, and here we hear music. If you don't like musicals, then you'd better not watch it. I love musicals, I love seeing the talent of the artists who sing, dance, and act at the same time and show us how talented and hard-working they are. Behind that talent is hard work, and I love to admire them.

It was a perfect movie to spend Sunday watching, and although this movie had multiple Oscar nominations, it only won two. One for Best Costume Design and another for Best Production Design, both artistic and well deserved. As for our leading ladies, they only received nominations because they had stiff competition.

Although, given all the publicity surrounding the film's release, you probably already know about it, I'll still share the trailer in case you feel like watching it. In my case, I think I'll watch it a second time, but this time in Spanish because I want to hear Danna Paola's performance as Elphaba. Hugs to all, and see you next time. Bye.

    Spanish

Bye.

  3. Wicked: Two days of trying to get through this and I just can't@netflixr512d

The high rating of this feature was a bit suspicious to me right from the start because if you look into it just a bit it is very clearly a diversity message of a film. I don't necessarily mind when diversity is put in films but in this one they really went Rings of Power over-the-top with how they cast this.

That's not the reason why I didn't really enjoy it though because I actually am interested in the story here about how the Wicked Witch of the West was forced into that situation by society: That is genuinely a great storyline and something that I will probably end up suffering through the musical numbers to find out what the story is overall. In the meantime though, I am just not a fan of this type of film generally speaking so I will admit that my opinion has biases going in before I even start to watch it.

    [src](https://movies.universalpictures.com/media/wicked-slider-mobile-filmpage-67742f0852db4-1.jpg)

I don't need to explain what is going on here as everyone already knows the characters that are based on the Wizard of Oz. If you don't for some reason perhaps go back and watch the original film and if you truly want to torture yourself go and watch The Wiz starring Michael Jackson afterwards.

Wicked touches base on some important issues in life about how a person who is belittled, bullied, and feared their entire life will eventually start to take on those personality traits that is suspected of them in the first place even if they don't want it to be that way. A good example of how some compassion can turn a person around from this ill fate would be The Elephant Man which while a slow film, is worth seeing.

The Wicked Witch is not a bad person. She is actually very kind but due to her appearance she is mistreated and feared her entire life even by her own father. When she arrives at a wizardry school of some sort Elphaba Thropp - which is the Wicked Witch's real name - is shunned by almost everyone but due to fortunate circumstances she is spotted by a very high ranking professor who takes her under her wing. Because Glinda the Good (played by an ill looking Ariana Grande) also wants to be in the good graces of this professor, Glinda volunteers to take Elphaba on as her roommate.

    [src](https://www.azcentral.com/gcdn/authoring/authoring-images/2024/11/21/USAT/76477868007-2551-sb-00048.jpg?crop=2665,1496,x537,y0&width=660&height=371&format=pjpg&auto=webp)

Although their relationship with one another is forced and awkward at first, as time passes they start to become closer to one another and Glinda starts to realize that her roommate is not a bad person at all. Because of the rush of musical numbers that just kind of started to annoy me this is where I turned it off for the 2nd day in a row.

Again, I am not saying this is a bad film. I'm saying that this sort of thing doesn't appeal to me. I am a big fan of musicals and like many people I have paid probably way too much money to see things on Broadway in the past. I have seen Les Miserables, Phantom of the Opera, and Chicago. I really enjoyed seeing all of these to the point where I have seen Les Mis 2 times on Broadway and 1 time off-Broadway. This represents about half of a thousand dollars worth of tickets or so. I have NEVER seen a film adaptation of any of these beloved productions that I enjoyed including the Les Miserables one that was nominated for Oscars.

I love musicals, but I just don't tend to enjoy them on the big screen. Ironically, I tried to go and see Wicked the last time I was in New York and couldn't because it was totally sold out.

    src

People who like musicals on screen will almost certainly enjoy Wicked and I am not going to try to tell them that they are wrong. The costumes, the sets, the actors and actresses, basically everything about this things is done very well and the audience and critic scores reflect that, if you are one of the people that thinks RT or IMBD aren't completely compromised at this point.

For people that are like me and generally do not enjoy musicals on screen, Wicked is not at all likely to change that. I am very fussy about what I enjoy in films and musicals simply aren't one of them. In my memory I can only think of 3 that I did like and they were Annie, The Wizard of Oz, and Team America: World Police.

    Should I watch it?

That trailer is done so wonderfully and it is why I decided to give the movie a shot in the first place and watching it again it makes me want to leave the movie on in the background while I do other things. While I am not a fan of musical numbers in movies I do like a good story and honestly, this does have a pretty great story. I would appreciate it more without the musical numbers..

Is it apparent enough that my inability to make it all the way through this film is entirely because of me yet? Well, I will will admit that and therefore, despite my title I am going to recommend that you DO in fact, see this. That is unless you are already aware of the fact that you have a disdain for musicals the way that I do.

photodune-6774981-recommended-grunge-red-stamp-xs-643x272.jpg as of now this film is available for rent or purchase on a wide variety of streaming services for a fee. It is not yet included as part of a subscription but is likely to land on Peacock first, since they are part of the same company that made this film

  4. WICKED 2024 My Opinion REVIEW (Esp-Eng)@emilyross37564d

    English

HELLO to all the friends of the Hive Community today I have brought you a movie called WICKED, the prequel to the extraordinary movie (Musical) THE WIZARD OF OZ, directed by Jon M. Chu, starring Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, among others.

    W4.png

    What is it about?

The first part of the Musical Wicked tells the life of Elphata, who had to live with the mockery of children and the contempt of his father for being born green. Elphata grows up protecting her handicapped little sister and discovers that she has powers she cannot control, once she enters the prestigious Shiz University, at the request of Principal Morrible (Michelle Yeoh) and assigns Galinda or Glinda (Ariana Grande) as her roommate. From there, a relationship begins that will gradually grow stronger and stronger, until it becomes a true friendship.

    W2 (1).png

    Personal Opinion

In my opinion WICKED, does not encourage me much in terms of movies (Musicals) of this 2024, being a prequel to the masterful Wizard of Oz, which I saw as a child and even as a teenager, I thought the plot was going to be better, the only thing that equals or exceeds it is in the colorful, the setting, and the effects. In this movie Elphata is a good girl rejected for her green color, but with a tough character, since she was a child she knew she had powers, but did not know how to control them, she was honest, compassionate, intelligent, I assume that her parents labeled her as weird by dressing her in black or maybe she chose it herself because she felt different. As for the performances Arianna Grande was up to the task she is very talented I love her from the Victorius series, as well as the performances of Cynthia Erivo, Michelle Yeoh and Jeff Goldblum, they got into their characters.

    W6.png

When Elphata accompanies her sister to Shiz University, since she is wheelchair-bound, she inadvertently lets her powers show to Principal Morrible (Michelle Yeoh) who persuades her to enter the University and assigns Glinda (Ariana Grande) as her roommate, the room reminded me a bit of Merlina and Enid Sinclair's room, half Black and White, the other in color, only this is a Barbie version and a dance that although it marked the true friendship between them, I think it should have been more attractive, was in bad taste, that only the Director will understand. I wonder why in such a strict University all students wear uniforms except them, because they were preferred? Or maybe because they were more powerful or more rebellious than the Academic Authorities.

I will tell you that I am not very fond of musicals in fact I have seen few of them, the one that has caught my attention is The Greatest Showman, West Side Story and Sing 2, whose songs fascinated me, maybe others, but I don't remember.

    W2 (2).png

I thought it was unfair that Elphata went to the Emerald City to ask the Wizard for the animals and why didn't she ask for her paraplegic sister or as she said to ask him to change her color. By the way, she didn't play anything in the movie, I imagined that in the second part, she would come into action.

If anything I liked the diversity of characters presented. This leaves us with the message that we are all different, in terms of race, religion, skin color, even the way we think, but that we can live together in harmony with respect and dignity.

Waiting for the second part that I'm sure will encourage me, we will know why the good green witch became bad, I imagine that everything has to do with the prince, I think this first part was very slow and boring, I say, and I'm not critical, just my humble opinion, I say goodbye, I recommend it, it's not bad, just tired, I hope you see it and tell me what you thought, Kisses and Hugs.

    W7.png

Until the next publication, God bless you.

For those who do not know, Wicked is originally a Broadway musical based on the book of the same name, which in turn is set in the same universe as "The Wizard of Oz", but is not written by the same author. Wicked tells the untold story of the witches of Oz. The musical was first presented in 2003 on Broadway, starring Kristin Chenoweth and Idina Menzel as Glinda and Elphaba respectively, the witches of Oz.

Wicked tells the story of the witches of Oz since they met at Shiz's college, during Dorothy's arrival in Oz and after the Wicked Witch of the West dies. This 2024, we were able to have a movie adaptation of this musical, directed by Jon M. Chu and starring Ariana Grande as Glinda and Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba.

I'm not going to lie, I really didn't know much about the musical, but I had a notion about it (since it is part of pop culture) and when I saw in 2022 that they were starting with the filming of the movie I started to search a little bit about the musical, because yes, I grew up watching High School Musical, yes I like musicals. I must say that although this movie is only part one and has a duration of 2 hours and 40 minutes, for me it was not long and tedious, it really went by very fast watching it and also singing some songs.

    Source

Overall, I really liked the movie, although it has its flaws like the CGI that looks a little weird at times, but they made a lot of sets for the movie and didn't fill everything with green (or blue) screen, which I really appreciate because it makes the movie look pretty good. I loved the costumes, especially Glinda's, I seriously wish I had some of those in my closet, Glinda's character is very entertaining and makes you laugh.

I won't really say that "if you don't like musicals, you're going to hate this movie" because clearly it's a no-brainer, this movie is a musical in every sense of the word, it starts and ends with a song, there's choreography, colorful and bright scenery, extras singing, it's all a show. I didn't have much faith in this movie at first (you know, because now they make everything terrible), but it ended up spending more than I thought it would, so I invite you to give it a chance. Tell me what you think about this movie if you have already seen it. I'll say goodbye for now, thank you very much for reading and I'll see you later in another post ❤️

  6. Wicked: Part One (2024)@andreseloy581577d
    [Source](https://www.filmaffinity.com/ve/filmimages.php?movie_id=753623)

Directed by Jon M. Chu, Wicked: Part 1 is a dazzling musical adaptation of the acclaimed Broadway play, taking us into the fascinating world of Oz before Dorothy.

This first installment chronicles the origins of Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo), a young girl outcast because of her green skin, and her relationship with Glinda (Ariana Grande), her opposite in character and destiny.

The film combines impressive vocal performances, such as the iconic Defying Gravity, with a moving reflection on diversity, prejudice and the transformative power of friendship.

Wicked focuses more on building up the musical moments than advancing the plot, and I think the existence of its sequel limits this first instalment in narrative terms.

    [Source](https://www.filmaffinity.com/ve/filmimages.php?movie_id=753623)

The film tells very little despite its lengthy running time of over two and a half hours. This translates into sly glances at the clock.

There is an amazing Ariana Grande, who understands her role perfectly: she knows how to laugh at herself and manages to be hated and loved at the same time.

On the other hand, there's her counterpart, a remarkable Cynthia Erivo, who manages to perform her role as the ‘weirdo’ with ease, generating a certain empathy in the spectator. The chemistry between the two is more than acceptable.

On a technical level, the film is massive. Everything is grandiloquent, perhaps too grandiloquent, and this means that, at times, the excess detracts from its impact. However, one of its best virtues is the cinematography, which stands out for its good taste.

Where the film really shines is in its soundtrack. For obvious reasons, there is a great investment in this section, and the result is palpable for the viewer. Through choreographies that are more eye-catching than complex, a great synergy is achieved between the musical and the visual.

This is a film aimed at a very specific audience. If you are not into musicals, it will be practically impossible for you to appreciate the film's virtues, as most of them lie in the inherent elements of the genre, such as the choreography and the great voices.

  7. Wicked (movie review)@roadstories578d

    image.png

Greetings Hivers, nice day to all. Today we are going with a review of the new movie released not long ago “Wicked”, which by the way at once I say that it is the best musical in the world of cinema that I have seen (I have not seen much because I am not a lover of this genre).

I think before going into the review it is important to remind people that this is not the old and typical Wizard of Oz movie, although there are portrayals of the characters (very good by the way), this is a musical, so basically 80% of the movie's narration and interpretation is sung.
I mention this because it seems that people do not watch the trailers or research about the movie they are going to see, they just go to the movies and then criticize without knowing, because in the theater where I was watching the screening of this exquisite film project I kept hearing criticisms such as “they are going to sing again, what a bummer”.
So I think it's imperative that people first of all get to know what they are saying about what they are being offered to see, and above all be a little more open-minded, and I'm not referring to the issue of inclusion, but rather to accept the changes and enjoy them, because this story is totally different from what we were used to.

As for the actors, I will be honest in mentioning that I had no expectations with the participation of the singer Arianna Grande, as I have never seen her act other than knowing that she has a unique voice and one of the best in her generation.

However I give her a round of applause because at no time I felt that it was overacted or forced, I did not feel uncomfortable, rather she was like herself only with that touch of blonde with little intellect beyond the superficial that is the character itself.
The only thing I can say negatively about her leading role is that I didn't like the Spanish dubbed voice they chose for her, but otherwise she was totally magnificent and has left me wanting to see her in other projects similar to this one.
As for Cynthia, she left me speechless, she really has a way of projecting her feelings in a very natural way and it is something very important in this story because the green witch had never been seen with such fragility as in this script that not only captivated me, but also made me feel identified.

I really liked the projection that has been given to this first part of the story, where it is shown that evil is not born, it is made or manifested as a result of the impact of other bad things that affect the person, which unbalances him and makes him change.

The theme of the animals seemed great to me because this in real life helps to raise awareness about animal abuse, they are beings that also have the right to a good quality of life, they also deserve to be loved no matter how different they are, and they are capable without any cross words to make us feel wonderful things.
As for the special effects, well nothing more to say than great if not perfect, from Glenda's laugh so particular to the impact that caused me to see the scene of oz behind his machines and the story that tells with it.

    English Text

In terms of inclusion there was nothing forced that I perceived, rather I liked that nice message projected towards the rare beauty of people who are different from us, who are so similar but with something special inside beyond the obvious and physical.

It also highlights the beautiful friendship that is born between Glenda (whose name at the beginning is Galinda) and Elphaba, who despite having many differences, learned to value to accept themselves especially in the case of the green witch.
The narrated songs of this story were fresh and hit the nail on the head, they make the voices of these actresses stand out and I must say that the Spanish dubbing regarding these parts is mind blowing, Danna Paola was the one who did the voice of Elphaba and it really took my breath away.
I am excited to see the second part of this story that has left me with the message that we all have the right to change, to be loved, visible and valued, but above all we can also be free and fly in that vast sky that life is for us.

  8. Film Review: Wicked (1998)@drax1054d

    (source: tmdb.org)

Julia Stiles became star thanks to light-hearted teen films like 10 Things I Hate About You and Save the Last Dance. Path to her stardom was, however, set by earlier, much darker and riskier role in Wicked, 1998 thriller directed by Michael Sternberg. In the film Stiles plays Ellie Christianson, 14-year old girl who lives with her parents in affluent neighbourhood, more or less isolated from the rest of the world. She feels constrained and the only reason why she hasn’t run away from home is her deep devotion to father Ben (played by William R. Moses). Her mother Karen (played by Chelsea Field) cheats Ben with virile neighbour Lawson Smith (played by Patrick Muldoon) and contemplates leaving home and taking Ellie and her four years younger sister Inger (played by Vera Zima) away. Before she does it, someone murders her. Ellie uses that as an opportunity to become head of the household and takes all of her mother’s duties, which, according to her, includes even sharing bed with her widowed father. Ben, who is having affair with governess Lena Anderson (played by Louise Myrback), is horrified with idea, but this isn’t his only problem. Police detective Boland (played by Ray Parks) is convinced that Karen’s murder isn’t the work of burglar or random stranger and begins to investigate her family members.

Wicked is a film that could bring both pleasant and unpleasant surprises to the audience. The former include morbidly unusual plot, eccentric characters that would be too much even for films of David Lynch and scriptwriter Eric Weiss bravely tackling motives of incest and underage sex. Unpleasant surprises come in the form of awfully predictable plot resolution and irritating musical score by Cliff Martinez. Julia Stiles is brilliant in the demanding role of villainous teenager, while veteran character actor Michael Parks bring a breath of fresh air as cynical detective. Their efforts, however, aren’t enough to generally improve impression of this film. Critics at Sundance Film Festival, however, thought otherwise and Stiles later won Best Actress Award at Karlovy Vary International Film Festival. The film nevertheless failed to get theatrical distribution and, following disputes over final cut and Martinez’s score, was released direct-to-video three years later. That might have been blessing in disguise for Stiles. If Wicked had reached theatres, her risky and unpleasant role might have resulted in typecasting or too much career-wrecking controversy, like in the case of Dominique Swain with Lolita. This way, Stiles, unlike many promising actresses, was allowed to continue career unburdened by her early and, to a degree, justifiably obscure film.
