Greetings to everyone in the Lifestyle community. Today Iâm joining you here to tell you a little about our classes at the Visual Arts Workshop. This month, we plan to discuss the basic elements of art, breaking down that topic as we go along. So we started by explaining points, lines, and geometric figuresâthat is, the shapes that result from them. Little by little, the students took turns coming up to the board to show me how a curved line could form a circle or a straight line could form a square, and how to use them to build shapes. For example, a triangle and a square can make a house. And if we refine that, we donât just have a houseâwe have a more personalized and beautiful building. It all depends on experience and skill.
We started with simple exercises where, through doodling and the use of thick lines that gradually become thinner, we created a rather interesting visual effect. The kids really enjoyed thatâtrying to replicate the effect and gaining a little understanding of the logic behind it. We did two versions of that and then moved on to one of the most anticipated exercises: creating patterns. At least it was an exercise I was really looking forward to (hahaha). Hatching (in the visual arts) involves patterns created using lines, dots, scribbles, and other elements to produce an optical illusionâadding volume and creating perspective and depth. With this technique, you can start with drawing and quickly move on to other things, understanding that drawing is a way to sketch out an idea, thinking intelligently and precisely about the placement of those dots and lines that bring the desired image to life.
Itâs a very useful technique for anyone who wants to draw and believes that every drawing must be smoothed out to the extreme (blended and literally seamless, which ends up âmessing upâ the image a bit), allowing students to appreciate the artistâs style and character. The children created two landscapesâa seascape and a mountain sceneâall using hatching. The important thing was not to be afraid to let those shapes flow freely. Without further ado, thank you so much for stopping by.
