Honestly, this show is meticulously written. I know it doesn't have a lot of dialogue, but that's precisely part of its charm. Let's be real—Carol is grating, which just speaks to how well-written the character is and what an incredible job Rhea Seehorn does. But we have to understand that people like that have a right to exist, to go through their own processes in life. If you're happy in your own sphere, you shouldn't let them throw you off; if you can help them, great, but if they don't want it, just keep moving.
The whole series is set up to make you either sympathize with or totally loathe the characters—the hive mind vs. Carol. On one hand, the collective has managed to improve humanity when it comes to sustainability, energy saving, addressing problems, and so on, but all at the expense of individuality. On the flip side, Carol defends everyone's right to be and act however they want, yet she tries to force that mindset on others, which ends up looking an awful lot like what the hive mind does: never actually asking what anyone else wants.
A lot of people criticize the pacing of the plot. I know it feels slow—it genuinely is—but you have to take the time to understand why it’s done on purpose. Remember that Carol is completely alone, and living alone means having no one to talk to, so you're forced to pay attention to the details. That’s why the show takes its time portraying routines step-by-step; for instance, every single time Carol calls the hive mind, you have to sit through that exact same automated message.
Plus, the way I see it, there's a sharp critique of our own reality woven into the show. The death of the individual, ironically mirrored in the end of society as we know it. So many people just hop on trends, fads, and ideologies, completely stopping themselves from questioning anything. They fall into mindless repetition without ever analyzing what they’re saying—just like the hive mind in the series. Viewed from that angle, this show is brilliant. It genuinely makes you think, and I really dug that.
