I've started watching Masters of the Air, an Apple TV+ original war drama miniseries that you could pretty much call the sibling of Band of Brothers and The Pacific. You quickly figure out why the vibe is so familiar—it's executive produced by Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks, so the narrative has that exact DNA of the stories those two know how to tell so well, which was more than enough reason for me to dive in.

Rápidamente descubres el porque de la temática, sus productoras son de Steven Spielberg y Tom Hanks, así que la trama tiene ese ADN de ese tipo de historias que estos dos saben contar, motivo suficiente para mí querer verla.
So far, I’ve only seen the pilot episode. It’s a 9-part miniseries with each episode running close to an hour. It follows the story of a group of young men who make up a U.S. Army Air Forces bomb group. Together, they crew the heavy bombers they proudly like to call "Flying Fortresses." The plot kicks off with them finally arriving in Europe to head into combat for the first time, but the mission doesn't go as planned and they end up taking heavy casualties.

La trama inicia con ellos finalmente llegando a Europa para entrar en combate por primera vez, pero la misión no sale como esperaban y terminan sufriendo muchas bajas.
It features several familiar faces, most notably Austin Butler as Maj. Gale "Buck" Cleven and Apple's golden boy, Callum Turner as Maj. John "Bucky" Egan. The cast is pretty massive, which makes sense since every plane requires two pilots, a navigator, a bombardier, an engineer, and several gunners. With a whole battalion of multiple bombers, you can imagine just how many actors are involved. It's way too early to single out any standout performances, because right now everything is anchored in the heavy camaraderie these men forged right in the middle of war.
Tiene varias caras conocidas, donde destacan Austin Butler como Maj. Gale 'Buck' Cleven y el consentido de Apple, Callum Turner como el Maj. John 'Bucky' Egan. El cast es bastante amplio, es de entender porque cada aviso cuenta con dos pilotos, un navegante, un ingeniero y 4 artilleros. Al ser un batallon de varios bombarderos, imaginarán la cantidad de actores involucrados. Decir que alguno destaca en lo que hace, hasta ahora es muy pronto, porque todo se basa en la camaradería que estos hombres forjaron en medio de la guerra.
You can tell the series had a massive budget. Green screens and CGI are front and center, and I have to say, it’s really well done. The theme is definitely packed with clichés—all World War II stories kind of sound the same at this point, and it feels like most of them have already been told. That turns a lot of people off because it doesn't really offer anything new, but honestly, I don't mind at all since I'm a total sucker for this kind of content. It's not that I'm a fan of war—war is terrible in every sense, and I wish it only existed in fiction—but I love the themes of strategy, overcoming evil, and pulling off high-stakes teamwork where everything is on the line.
Se ve que la serie contó con un gran presupuesto. El uso de pantallas verdes y cgi es lo que predomina y debo decir que esta muy bien hecho. La temática está llena de clichés, las historias de la segunda guerra mundial todas suenan igual, parece que ya se contaron la mayoría. A muchos esto no les anima porque no ofrece nada nuevo, pero a mí la verdad no me importa, porque soy fan de este tipo de contenido. No es que me guste la guerra, es mala en todo su sentido, ojalá solo existiera en la ficción, pero el tema de la estrategia, de vencer el mal, de lograr trabajar en equipo apostandolo todo me gusta.
The kickoff wasn't mind-blowing, but it definitely packed a solid punch of intensity. What happened was heartbreaking, serving up a heavy emotional blow that really puts the horrors of war into perspective. I'll have to see how it moves forward and just how thrilling it gets, because as a miniseries, it really doesn't have any room to let up on the gas.
El arranque no ha sido nada espectacular pero si ha tenido su grando de intensidad. Lo que pasó fue lamentablemente y es un golpe emocional duro que te hace poner en perspectiva los horrores de la guerra. Ya vere como avanza y que tan emocionante puede llegar a ser, porque al ser una miniserie, no tiene espacio para aflojar el ritmo.
