Hello, movie lovers! Today I'd like to share my review of the movie Drawn Together.
Trama - Plot
La historia sigue a Marfil, una joven española que vive en Nueva York junto a su padre, un hombre de negocios importantes. Un día Marfil es secuestrada y devuelta a los dos días sin tener recuerdos de dónde estuvo, ahí su padre decide contratarle un guardaespaldas llamado Sebastián con el que no va a congeniar bien, pero tendrán que aprender a trabajar en equipo para descubrir la verdad detrás del secuestro, y de los negocios turbios del padre de Marfil, mientras surge una atracción innegable entre ellos que pondrá en peligro la misión.
The story follows Marfil, a young Spanish woman who lives in New York with her father, a prominent businessman. One day, Marfil is kidnapped and returned two days later with no memory of where she had been. Her father then decides to hire a bodyguard named Sebastián, with whom she doesn’t get along very well, but they’ll have to learn to work as a team to uncover the truth behind the kidnapping and Marfil’s father’s shady business dealings, all while an undeniable attraction develops between them that will jeopardize the mission.
Reseña - Review
La trama es una más de lo que yo llamo película de mafiosos. Es que el padre de Marfil anda en negocios sucios y es por ello que los persigue una banda liderada por un hombre importante de este ámbito que quiere venganza por algo que sucedió en el pasado. Ahora bien, la película empieza tranquila, vamos siguiendo la vida normal de esta joven que le encanta la danza y que hasta el secuestro tenía cierta autonomía e independencia. Ahora debe compartir su piso con un extraño que tampoco es muy comunicativo y que encima esconde mucho más de lo que deja ver, y encima tiene que aprender a confiar en él porque es el encargado de su seguridad.
The plot is just another one of what I call “mafia movies.” Marfil’s father is involved in shady business dealings, which is why they’re being pursued by a gang led by a powerful figure in that world who wants revenge for something that happened in the past. That said, the movie starts off calmly; we follow the normal life of this young woman who loves to dance and who, until her kidnapping, enjoyed a certain degree of autonomy and independence. Now she has to share her apartment with a stranger who isn’t very talkative and who, on top of that, is hiding much more than he lets on—and she has to learn to trust him because he’s responsible for her safety.
Sebastián tiene sus propias razones para hacer lo que está haciendo, y no es totalmente sincero con su verdadero trabajo. Hay otras cosas sucediendo en segundo plano que nos iremos enterando después. Creo que la película empieza a cobrar fuerza después de la segunda mitad donde se va perfilando mejor lo que está pasando y entra en juego la trama central. Al final tuvo más acción de la que esperaba y, aunque la película tiene tendencia a ir hacia un terreno, terminó en otro que la hizo mucho más interesante y es esa parte la que me gustaría seguir viendo.
Sebastián has his own reasons for doing what he's doing, and he isn't entirely honest about his real job. There are other things happening in the background that we’ll find out about later. I think the movie really starts to pick up steam after the second half, when what’s going on becomes clearer and the central plot comes into play. In the end, it had more action than I expected, and although the movie tends to head in one direction, it ended up going in another that made it much more interesting—and that’s the part I’d like to keep watching.
Ahora bien, tengo que decir que la mayoría del tiempo es algo floja, hay situaciones que no tienen ni pies ni cabezas, momentos medio fantasiosos que no se entienden muy bien y escenas que podrían haberse evitado. Pero, el final lo compensa, me sorprendió muchísimo y me dieron ganas de ver esa segunda parte si logra realizarse. Aunque va a ser difícil porque creo que fue una película con poco recibimiento del público, que no tuvo un gran impacto, por momentos se tornaba algo plana y monótona. Después mejoraba, pero había cosas que no tenían mayor sentido y algunas de las actuaciones tampoco me convencieron.
That said, I have to admit that most of the time it’s a bit lackluster; there are situations that make no sense, somewhat fantastical moments that are hard to follow, and scenes that could have been left out. But the ending makes up for it—it really surprised me, and it made me want to see a sequel if one ever gets made. Although that’s going to be difficult because I think the movie didn’t go over well with audiences; it didn’t make much of an impact, and at times it felt a bit flat and monotonous. It got better later on, but there were things that didn’t make much sense, and some of the performances didn’t quite convince me either.
Eso sí, puedo decir que fue una película entretenida dentro de todo, hubo sucesos que no esperaba, por lo que no fue tan predecible, y logró sorprenderme hacia el final, así que vamos a darle una oportunidad y ver qué más tiene para ofrecer en caso de que se realice una segunda parte. Todo es cuestión de perspectiva, igual el show no falto, por lo que recomiendo que la miren para sacar sus propias conclusiones.
That said, I can say it was an entertaining movie overall; there were some twists I didn’t expect, so it wasn’t all that predictable, and it managed to surprise me toward the end. So let’s give it a chance and see what else it has to offer in case there’s a sequel. It’s all a matter of perspective—it certainly didn’t disappoint—so I recommend you watch it and draw your own conclusions.
