¡Hola Chicos!
Hi everyone!
It all started the day the earthquakes hit here in Venezuela. I was finishing up my classes when I got a message from a cousin saying that my grandmother and her mother were visiting the city because they had finally managed to sell my grandparents' house (which they had been trying to sell for months) and they were going to organize everything for the move; and that they were also planning to give me some things, so I should call them to arrange to pick them up.
I left the store and called them. That's when my grandmother gave me wonderful news: she was going to give me her sewing machine. I was so excited and jumped for joy, because I've wanted a sewing machine for a long time, and to think that it wasn't just any machine, but my grandmother's, definitely made it more special.
After hanging up, I went to the supermarket to do some shopping, and on my way to the bus stop, I got the earthquake alert message. At that moment, I stood still, looking around to see if anything was moving. We'd had an earthquake here last year, and I knew what it felt like and the risks involved.
After a minute, seeing that nothing had happened and nothing had moved, I kept walking, but I was on high alert. It wasn't until we got home that we began to realize the full extent of the chaos this had caused, and well, you know how the rest ended.
Days passed, and I received a call from my aunt telling me I had to go urgently to get our things. This put me in a real bind because we didn't have any money in our account at that point, and this meant paying for a truck to move our belongings, which, at the time, I had no idea how much it would cost.

I hadn't been to that house since my grandfather passed away four years ago, and honestly, everything had changed so much. I noticed it as soon as I walked in, seeing the pale floor. It had always been a vibrant red because my grandfather had always been so meticulous about keeping everything spotless.
Homes are definitely made by the people who make them, and this house clearly hadn't received any love in a long time. It was sad to see everything old, lonely, and worn.
When I arrived, my grandmother and aunt started listing the things they were going to give me, but the real surprise was that I had to go around the house picking everything up myself, since they hadn't gathered everything in one place.
I had to take down curtains, put some things in bags, and throw others away. My grandmother offered me every little thing she found that she knew I wasn't going to take.

Among the larger items was a bedroom set consisting of a dresser, a headboard with built-in nightstands, and my grandmother's sewing machine.
I spent the afternoon taking everything out of the drawers. They were full of papers and things that had belonged to my grandfather, and I had to show them around so I wouldn't accidentally take something important.
We had arranged for a friend and his father to do us the favor of taking some of the things to the shop and some to our house.

My grandmother took some time to talk to me about the sewing machine, explain how it worked, and give me some tips on how to care for it. She'd had that machine for years; I don't know exactly how many, but it had been with her for as long as I can remember.
The machine came with its own table, and she also gave me two additional tables, one large and one small, where she used to cut fabric and make patterns.
She also gave me some Christmas decorations and some plastic chairs. All of this was perfect for my classes.
My son and I moved everything toward the entrance of the house so that it would be easy to load it all when the truck arrived.

Finally, the truck arrived, and my son, a family friend, and his dad loaded everything onto it. We were loaded down. Then we said goodbye to the family and headed to the shop and then home.
We were so happy with everything because we hadn't imagined they would give me so many valuable things. But the story doesn't end here; in another post, I'll tell you what happened a few days later...
