Árboles, reflexiones y algo mas 🌳🌴🌿 / Trees, reflections and something more 🌳🌴🌿

Saludos hivers.

Hello hivers. On Sundays, I love going to the park to connect with nature, practice Tai Chi and Qigong, and recharge my batteries for the week ahead 🔋🧘🏻‍♀️🚀. It has rained a lot lately, so everything is very lush and green, it's a great time for the vegetation and the wildlife, and for the mosquitoes, too 😬😵 hahaha 🥴. Today's post features trees from both the park and the city, along with other photos taken in this green space I visit on Sundays.

This week, I saw something on the news that filled me with deep indignation and sadness, a tree between 200 and 250 years old was killed at the border between the Unitet States and Mexico. It was the last of four historic cottonwoods remaining in the area. For 70 days, environmentalists kept watch over it, trying to protect it, sadly, "Grandma", as this majestic specimen was known, was ruthlessly cut down on Monday. The tree, which had stood there providing shade and shelter for longer than either of those two countries has existed, was cleared away to make room for a border wall. Where there was once life, unity, coolness, and beauty, there will now be nothing but an ugly wall designed to divide and breed hatred and conflict. And we call that "development" 🙄🤨. The mere fact that we fail to respect a living being that has stood there for so long is a sign of the terrible future awaiting us as a species.

Colonizers insisted on portraying native peoples as savages, uncultured, ignorant, and backward simply because they didn't dress like them and held their own distinct belief systems and ways of life. This characterization appears truly ironic, absurd, and entirely contrary to the truth when we examine the actual facts. If there is one defining trait of native tribes and civilizations, it's their respect for nature and all that it encompasses. Their ancestral wisdom teaches us that our lives are inextricably linked to the balance of ecosystems, therefore, to secure food, health, shelter, and harmony, we must respect and care for trees, animals, plants, rivers, the sea, and the earth for all of these are part of us. It was not the native peoples who drove thousands of species to extinction or pushed others to the brink, rather, it was the colonizers, driven by a desire to seize everything as quickly as possible, without respect, patience, or conscience.

I had never seen the inside of a palm tree trunk before, how interesting, it’s made up entirely of fibrous strands

The energy you feel in a forest is incredible, trees not only have the ability to cool us down and provide shade as we walk beneath their spreading branches, but they can also quiet our thoughts and reset our minds. Every Sunday when I arrive at the park, I walk into the woods, find a tree, and hug it, some feel cold, others are noisy, each one connects with me in its own unique way, it's a truly beautiful and overwhelming experience 🥰. By the way, this has nothing to do with being a hippie, hahaha, I’m not one.

That's insane, how people feel good around the Nature. Forests, mountains, rivers, That's where we belong, not to the concrete jungle :)
