Hello hivers. Striving to help animals has always been a part of my life, for as long as I can remember, I have loved animals. For about ten years now, I have been an active animal advocate. This entails a deeper commitment to helping, rescuing, providing medical care, spaying or neutering, and finding good homes for dogs and cats. It also involves educating people about responsible pet ownership and speaking out against animal cruelty. While it isn’t something I do every single day, I try to help however I can, even if it’s just by spreading the word.
Desde principios de este año y junto a otros proteccionistas de la ciudad hemos estado buscando maneras de poder hacer mas para ayudar a estos seres indefensos. No ha sido fácil porque en un país donde a diario tenemos que lidiar con tantas cosas, situaciones y problemas, principalmente la economía y los cortes eléctricos de 6 horas, lograr mantener la motivación, el entusiasmo y la disciplina para seguir con esta labor se hace cada vez más difícil, sin embargo, finalmente pudimos concretar y dar el primer paso, mañana tendremos nuestro primer evento benéfico en pro de los perros y gatos de la calle.
Since the beginning of this year, together with other animal advocates in the city, we have been looking for ways to do more to help these defenseless creatures. It hasn't been easy, in a country where we have to contend daily with so many challenges, most notably the state of the economy and six-hour power outages, maintaining the motivation, enthusiasm, and discipline to continue this work becomes increasingly difficult. Nevertheless, we have finally managed to take a concrete first step: tomorrow, we will hold our first charity event to benefit stray dogs and cats.
Estoy en el equipo organizador así que me ofrecí para hacer parte de la decoración, en este caso, caritas de gatos y perros, sin embargo, y debido a varios inconvenientes, no me dió tiempo de hacer las de los perros así que quedarán para la segunda edición de nuestra actividad 🤷🏻♀️. La idea es hacer las cosas con el menor presupuesto posible así que utilicé una caja de cartón como lienzo, lo cual es excelente porque estamos reciclando también, el resto fueron marcadores, pintura al frío, acuarelas, colores, pega y mucha creatividad para dibujar estos lindos gatitos 😸.
I’m on the organizing team, so I volunteered to help with the decorations, specifically, cat and dog faces. However, due to a few setbacks, I didn’t have time to make the dog ones, so those will have to wait for the second edition of our event 🤷🏻♀️. The goal was to keep costs as low as possible, so I used a cardboard box as a canvas, which is great, since it also means we’re recycling! For the rest, I used markers, acrylic paint, watercolors, colored pencils, glue, and plenty of creativity to draw these cute kittens 😸.
Quería que estos gatos fueran diferentes entre sí así que no seguí el mismo patrón de diseño, me fuí dejando llevar por mi imaginación. Todo se dió muy rápido y no había mucho tiempo, para dibujar sobre cartón lo ideal es la pintura al frío o la acrílica ya que los colores de los marcadores y las acuarelas no destacan en ese fondo marrón, como solamente tengo acuarelas y marcadores, usé pintura al frío blanca para crear un fondo donde pudiera pintar con los materiales que tengo y que se viera bien.
I wanted these cats to be different from one another, so I didn’t follow a single design pattern, instead, I let my imagination take the lead. Everything happened very quickly, and I didn’t have much time. When drawing on cardboard, acrylic or craft paint works best, as colors from markers and watercolors don’t stand out well against that brown background. Since I only have watercolors and markers on hand, I used white craft paint to create a base, allowing me to paint with the materials I had and achieve a good result.
A partir de ahí empecé a ponerle color a cada gatito, en este equipo hay casi de todo jejeje, por lo menos los más populares de aquí, el gato negro, el blanco, el naranja con blanco, el atigrado marrón, el atigrado naranja, el gris, el siamés y el tuxedo (negro con blanco).
From that point on, I started adding color to each cat, this group has just about everything, hehehe! At the very least, it includes the most common types found here: black, white, orange-and-white, brown tabby, orange tabby, gray, Siamese, and tuxedo (black and white).
Los ojos de los gatos son llamativos y de colores claros, amarillo, verde y azul, así que también les puse un fondo blanco para que esos tonos pudieran verse bien y los pinté con acuarela.
Cats' eyes are striking and light-colored, yellow, green, or blue, so I used a white background to help those colors stand out, and I painted them using watercolors.
Los que tenemos gatos sabemos que ponernos a hacer algo en el piso sin que alguno de ellos se acerque a curiosear es prácticamente imposible 😂, Alain Delon fue el primero que vino a supervisar cómo iba el trabajo 🧐🤭, al parecer le gustó porque no intentó romper nada 😂😁.
Those of us who have cats know that it’s practically impossible to start doing something on the floor without one of them coming over to take a look! 😂 Alain Delon was the first to arrive to supervise how the work was going 🧐🤭, apparently, he liked it, because he didn’t try to break anything! 😂😁

Después de poner los puntos de luz en los ojos de los gatos, llegó la segunda supervisora 😂, Brigitte Bardot, la hermanita de Alain, aunque ella estaba era pendiente de quitarme el pincel de la mano para jugar jajaja 🤷🏻♀️.
After adding the highlights to the cats' eyes, the second supervisor arrived 😂, Brigitte Bardot, Alain’s little sister, though her main goal was just to snatch the paintbrush from my hand so she could play with it, hahaha! 🤷🏻♀️.

Por último, les pasé una capa de pega blanca para protegerlos, solamente me falta recortarlos pero eso lo haré mañana en la mañana y estos gatitos están listos para el evento, estarán decorando la puerta de la cancha donde se hará nuestra actividad deportiva a las 5 pm, será una tarde para que la gente mueva el cuerpo y se divierta haciendo bailocross mientras apoya a los perros y gatos en situación de calle 😊🙏🏻. La entrada tiene un costo de $1 al cambio del día y todo lo recaudado será destinado a comprar medicamentos de uso veterinario para nuestro botiquín de primeros auxilios, algo que necesitamos tener para poder atender los casos más sencillos que se nos presenten con los animalitos de la calle.
Finally, I applied a coat of white glue to protect them, I just need to trim them, but I’ll do that tomorrow morning, and these cats are now ready for tomorrow’s event. They will be decorating the door to the sports court where our activity will take place at 5 pm, an afternoon for people to get moving and have fun with "dance-aerobics" (bailocross), all while supporting stray dogs and cats! 😊🙏🏻. Admission ticket is $1 (at the daily exchange rate), and all proceeds will go toward purchasing veterinary supplies for our first-aid kit, an essential resource that will allow us to handle minor health issues among the stray animals we encounter.
