West End Barn Repair - October 31, 2026 @goldenoakfarm

Early morning light

On Saturday morning I finally got up at 5AM. I’ve been running the Spooky 2 rife machine in the mornings. It will run until I shut it down, over and over. There’s been a couple days when it either ran for hours or all day, like yesterday.

I’ve found I have trouble getting to bed at 8PM and I’m waking up way too early. It’s really having a good effect on the SADS but there can be too much of a good thing.

I got my post up, fed myself and the cat, and went to work on the credit card mess. Sometimes reconciliation is really hard! I worked on it until 9:45AM when I stopped to get ready to work on the trash shed.

I got that cleaned out with some help from my son’s friend and we headed to the dump. Our town doesn’t have a section where things that are still good can be left. But when I told the dump guy I had 5 boxes of videos and DVDs he said to leave them by the clothing bins. I suspect he wanted to go through them to see if there were any he wanted. But I hope many people took some too. Anyways, I didn’t have to pay to leave them.

When I got home, I got the plastic boxes I ordered and cleaned out the truck’s glove box. The mice love it in there. I got everything in the boxes and I hope it deters the mice.

Next my son’s friend and I went to the attic to get a bed frame out. He got it upstairs in the old office but we couldn’t put it together. Somewhere there were bolts to hold it together. So I went back to the attic to find the bolts and he went out for breakfast.

I was tired from all this so I sat down for a while and then made toasted cheese sandwiches and tomato soup for lunch. I sat for a while longer then went back to the mess I’d been working on in the morning. Still no progress…

At 3PM my contractor arrived to work on the west end of the barn. The wind had taken its toll on it and there were several missing or loose boards. He’d brought his helper with him.

They got started and put the boards still there back up but needed more barn boards to do the rest. So I went up to the barn and we found more for them. I went back to my mess for another hour then quit.

They got the door that the wind had jammed opened and fastened so it doesn’t blow again. They were able to fix all but the top of the peak.

I made some supper and got the shades pulled and sat down to watch a movie. It finished at 8PM and I got both stoves going and was in bed by 9PM.

On Sunday I’ll tackle the mess again and mid afternoon a family is coming out to look at the farm. They are wanting to start a regenerative specialty flower operation. While this is not exactly what I envisioned for the farm, it sounds interesting. It’s to be a lovely afternoon, so I hope it’s a productive visit.

I’ve also got a kitchen disaster to clean up.

Soup and grilled cheese is my favorite Autumn meal 😋 cool you are keeping up with repairs on your barn. It breaks my heart to drive around rural Vermont and see so many left uncared for until the fall in. Good luck with the credit cards. I used to spend hours on reconciliation when we were running a business 🙄

that dump guy definitely kept at least a couple of those dvds for himself. hope the mice actually stay out of your glove box now since those plastic bins usually do the trick

Wow, they did a great job fixing the barn, Pam. A flower farm sounds amazing! You would enjoy seeing all that land used instead of just sitting there. Keep us posted, it is certainly intriguing.
