Hello friends, good vibes to everyone.

Hola amigos, buenas vibras para todos.

One of the hallmarks of the 1990s was the sheer volume of comedies produced during that decade—those quintessential, silly films featuring highly surreal situations and protagonists who are truly clumsy and idiotic—much like the film we’re looking at today. Watching this movie brought to mind Dumb & Dumber (starring Jim Carrey) and even The Hangover—though, naturally, with some caveats—given the dynamics, characters, plotlines, and experiences on display here. If you’ve seen those two films, you’ll know what to expect: it’s a delightfully silly comedy populated by such peculiar characters that their actions end up turning the entire story into a series of improvised, chaotic events. It may not be the greatest film ever made, but it’s certainly one that’s bound to keep you entertained.

The pair of idiots in question are Davis (O'Shea Jackson Jr.) and Mark (Dave Franco)—two men whose lives aren't exactly going well; the former nearly got fired, while the latter was let go entirely. Faced with the precarious state of their lives, they decide to take a job that, rather than bringing them joy or money, promises only headaches and danger. In theory, it’s a simple task: transport a troubled teenager from a wealthy family to a rehabilitation center. So far, so good. The catch is that this young man, Sheridan Kimberly (Mason Thames), is completely unhinged—the type of person who believes that having money (or, rather, having wealthy parents) entitles him to do whatever he pleases. Consequently, what should have been a smooth, uneventful journey turns into a nightmare in which absolutely everything goes wrong.

Sheridan is a social media personality who carries out all his wild antics online, which has earned him a loyal following. He tries to use this influence to make an escape, but he ends up in the clutches of some rather peculiar criminals—the kind who are anything but scary. Before that, however, the characters go through an incredibly chaotic night at a motel, where drugs enter the picture alongside Irina (Kiernan Shipka), a stripper who will stop at nothing to get back what’s hers. The plot is every bit as insane as it sounds; the film’s vibe is exactly what I described—a blend of the movies I mentioned earlier. It features two guys who have no clue what they’re doing, finding themselves overwhelmed by absurd, hilarious situations involving drug overdoses, misunderstandings, a stripper seeking revenge after having her money stolen, and a group of "criminals" looking to exploit the whole mess. Will you laugh? Absolutely—because the events are genuinely funny. It’s not because the film is serious; quite the opposite: it’s a total disaster.

Te vas a reír?

The story is odd because Sheridan’s followers aren’t the typical young people you’d expect—though he does have some of those—but rather a group of old folks; heaven knows why they spend so much time with him. My main issue is the lack of depth and context for the characters; things just happen for no apparent reason, with no explanation whatsoever. While you don’t necessarily need a full backstory for everything, the viewer sometimes needs a bit of context to make sense of the narrative. There are scenes and relationships that serve no real purpose—they’re funny, sure, but that’s about it; it feels as though events are just being thrown in one after another solely to elicit a laugh. Despite all this, I wasn’t bored, and I never felt like stopping—the characters are such "idiots" that you just have to see how it all ends. It also helps that the characters are so absurd; even the most serious one ends up being funny.

The cast isn't bad; in addition to those already mentioned, Peter Dinklage appears, playing one of the film's funniest characters. Many might label Dave Franco a poor actor, but I don’t think that’s the case—films like "Together" and "Now You See Me" prove otherwise. The same goes for Kiernan Shipka, who does a great job in "Sabrina" and "Totally Killer." The issue isn't the actors; it’s how everything is put together and the final result. In this instance, the performances are actually quite good—the plot doesn't offer much support, but the cast manages to pull off what’s required without any trouble. Ultimately, this is a comedy meant purely for passing the time and switching off. While there are several holes in the script, that doesn't stop it from being enjoyable; personally, it managed to get a few laughs out of me. If you’re looking for something that evokes the feel of 90s comedies, this film might fit the bill—it’s not the best, but it gets the job done. It runs for an hour and a half. I’ve included the trailer below so you can take a look.
