If you read my posts regularly, you likely know that Madrid captivated me at first sight; in fact, it is my favorite among the many cities I have had the chance to visit. I had expected to be back there by now, but for various reasons, the trip hasn't materialized. Even so, I remain deeply inspired by the three times I have visited, trips that left me with wonderful memories, many of them captured in photographs. I would like to share a glimpse of that with you through this virtual tour of El Retiro Park, starting with this beautiful view of the Monument to Alfonso XII, a spot I have so far only admired from a distance, across the lake.

These photos are from my first visit to El Retiro Park, an outing I remember as a perfect afternoon. Like any park, admission was free, and although I knew I would feel a special connection with nature right in the heart of the city, the magic of that first visit, from the scenery to the weather, made it truly unforgettable for me. I recall a slight dip in the weather during that second week of spring that gave me a taste of what winter is like in northern countries; even though a couple of years have passed and I still haven't experienced a "real" winter, I now know that things can get much colder than I had ever imagined 😅

Another detail that made that afternoon memorable was the company of a great friend who actually offered to be our guide in Madrid, helping us make the most of a long weekend, starting Friday night, to visit as many points of interest as possible. For several years now, I have felt a deeper connection to nature and the little details life offers us through the air, colors, and shapes; consequently, that park nourished my soul so profoundly that I can still relive the feeling today, even amidst the heat of my tropical home country. What might be ordinary to some became a dream come true for me.

I’ll admit that the main reason I thought I’d be in Madrid this week was to attend one of Shakira’s concerts. This has been a priority for me since childhood, and I didn’t want to miss this particular tour, which is fantastic but didn’t come to my country (once again, due to politics). It feels like a musical statement from this Colombian artist, but how can I justify spending money on something like this during Venezuela’s worst moment? I know plenty of people do it, and I’m happy for them. The combination of Madrid, Shakira, and my friends in Spain sounds like a perfect idea, but when I speak of my country’s worst moment, I’m including a lot of things, even personal matters resulting from the chaos. It was for this primary reason, along with other secondary ones that aren't relevant here, that I wanted to write this post.

Today, I choose to use this platform, Worldmappin, to let my memories flow and share these photos I took with such passion. They may not be the best, and I have fewer of them these days, but I review and edit them all with great joy; writing these lines and organizing the images I’ve chosen helps keep the experience and the feelings alive within me. I wouldn't mind walking through this park every day; I’m sure I’d always find a new corner to discover. My city, Caracas, has many beautiful parks too, but there is something special about El Retiro, perhaps because it’s on a different continent and at a different latitude, there is something about the vegetation that makes it a delight. I hope to find new stories in this place in the future; in the meantime, I’ll hold onto the joy of this start-of-the-week greeting I’m sharing with my friends on Hive ❤️ Everything happens for a reason!...

Madrid, creo que si me lees regularmente sabrás que es una ciudad que me cautivo a primera vista, incluso es mi preferida entre tantas que la vida me ha permitido conocer. Pensé que para estas fechas estaría de regreso, pero por diversas razones no se ha podido concretar el viaje, pero aún así, estoy muy inspirado por las tres veces que he podido visitarla y que me ha dejado grandes recuerdos, muchos de ellos fotográficos, y un poco de ello les quiero ofrecer en este viaje virtual por el Parque del Buen Retiro, comenzando con esta hermosa portada del Monumento a Alfonso XII, un lugar que de momento solo he apreciado a distancia, del otro lado del lago.

Estas fotografías son de mi primera visita al Parque El Retiro, el cual lo recuerdo como una tarde perfecta. Como cualquier parque, el acceso era gratis, y aunque sabía que tendría una conexión especial con la naturaleza en medio del corazón de la ciudad, la magia de la primera vez, tanto en lo visual, como en el clima hicieron que esta visita fuera inolvidable para mí. Recuerdo que esa segunda semana de primavera hubo un leve retroceso que me hizo sentir un poco lo que es el invierno en los países del norte, aunque han pasado ya un par de años y sigo sin conocer el verdadero invierno, pero ahora sé que las cosas pueden ponerse más frías de lo que siempre imaginé 😅

Otro detalle que hizo memorable esa tarde fue la compañía de un gran amigo que de hecho se ofreció a ser nuestro guía en la ciudad de Madrid para aprovechar de conocer la mayor cantidad de lugares de interés en un largo fin de semana que comenzó desde la noche del Viernes. Desde hace varios años ya he tenido más sensibilidad por la naturaleza y los pequeños detalles que la vida nos regala a través del aire, los colores y las formas, así que este parque llenó mi alma hasta el punto que hoy puedo seguir reviviendo la sensación aunque me encuentre el el calor de mi país tropical. Lo que para algunos es normal, para mí se convirtió en un sueño hecho realidad.

Les confieso que el motivo principal por el cual pensé que estaría en Madrid esta semana era para asistir a alguno de los conciertos de Shakira. Para mí esto siempre ha sido una prioridad desde niño, y este tour en particular que está buenísimo y que no visitó mi país, nuevamente por razones políticas, era un show que no me quería perder, parece la tesis musical de esta cantante colombiana, pero ¿Cómo puedo darme el gusto de gastar por motivos como este en el peor momento de Venezuela?. Sé que muchos lo hacen, y me alegro por ellos. La combinación entre Madrid, Shakira y mis amigos en España suena a una idea perfecta, pero cuando hablo del peor momento de mi país estoy englobando muchas cosas, incluso cosas personales que son consecuencia del caos... Solo por este motivo principal y otros secundarios que no vienen al caso quise escribir este post.

Hoy elijo aprovechar esta plataforma, Worldmappin, para dejar fluir mis recuerdos y compartir estas fotografías que tomé apasionadamente, aunque quizás no sean las mejores, ya que cada vez me quedan menos, pero todas las reviso y las edito con mucha alegría, y escribir estas líneas y organizar las imágenes que elijo me ayudan a mantener viva la experiencia y las sensaciones en mí. No me molestaría caminar a través de este parque a diario, estoy seguro que siempre encontraría un rincón nuevo. En mi ciudad, Caracas, también hay muchos parques atractivos, pero hay algo especial en El Retiro, quizás por ser otro continente, otra latitud, hay algo en la vegetación que lo vuelve una delicia. Espero contra historias nuevas en este lugar a futuro, mientras tanto, me quedo con la alegría de este saludo de inicio de semana que le regalo a mis amigos de Hive ❤️ ¡Todo pasa por algo!...
