Worldmappin - My first vacation as an employee: traveling so my dad could see Iguazú Falls for the first time. / Mis primeras vacaciones como empleada: viajando para que mi papá conozca las Cataratas del Iguazú.😃❤️

I used to say that time flies when you're having fun, but the reality is that it flies when you're working every single day. After several months of incessant and exhausting work (just kidding), my well-deserved vacation finally arrived (this part is true). Last year, I had promised my dad that when I had vacation time from work, we would plan a trip together, and that's exactly what we did in March this year. This wouldn't be the first time traveling alone with my dad, and I already more or less know the kind of trip he enjoys, so we planned to travel to Iguazú Falls so he could see them for the first time 😃.

Antes solía decir que el tiempo vuela cuando te estás divirtiendo, pero la realidad es que vuela cuando estás trabajando todos los días. Después de varios meses de trabajo incesante y cansador (es broma), finalmente llegaron mis merecidas vacaciones (esto es cierto). El año pasado le había prometido a mi papá que cuando tuviera vacaciones en mi trabajo organizaríamos un viaje juntos, y eso fue lo que hicimos en marzo de este año. Esta no sería la primera vez viajando sola con mi papá y yo ya sé masomenos el tipo de viaje que le gusta, así que planeamos viajar hasta las Cataratas del Iguazú para que él las viera por primera vez 😃.

Friends, after traveling around so many different places, I found myself facing the problem of not knowing exactly where to go next. Since I had already visited all the places in Argentina that I wanted to see during my backpacking days, I felt like I had run out of nearby destinations to explore. But this time, I thought about my dad and the places we had visited together, and I came up with the idea that it would be nice for him to see Iguazú Falls. On our previous trips, we had visited beaches and mountains, both with and without snow, and the falls offered a landscape that was completely different from all of those. As for me, this was my third time standing in front of that breathtaking natural wonder, but who could ever get tired of seeing such incredible natural beauty?

Amigos, después de haber paseado tanto por todos lados, tuve el problema de no saber a dónde ir exactamente. Como todos los lugares de Argentina que quería ver ya los había visto en mi etapa de mochilera, sentía como que me había quedado sin lugares para visitar que sean cerca de acá. Pero esta vez pensé en mi papá y en los lugares que visitamos juntos, y se me ocurrió que sería buena idea que el conociera las cataratas. En nuestros viajes anteriores visitamos playa y montañas con y sin nieve, y las cataratas es un paisaje totalmente diferente a todo eso. En cuanto a mí, esta fue mi tercera vez frente a ese paisaje natural imponente, ¿pero quién podría cansarse de ver semejante belleza natural?

Planning this trip took me about two months because whenever I travel with my dad, I feel the “pressure” of finding an interesting place to visit, good accommodation at a convenient price and in a strategic location, and also planning an itinerary of things to do. Yes, I take care of everything while my dad just asks me, “How much do we have to pay?” and that's it. After that, everything ends up being a surprise for him. In all the trips we've taken so far, I haven't received a single complaint from him, so I guess I'm pretty good at organizing the kind of trips we both enjoy.

Planear este viaje me tomó como dos meses, porque siempre que viajo con mi papá tengo la "presión" de encontrar un lugar interesante para ir, un buen alojamiento con precio conveniente y ubicación estratégica, y además planear un itinerario de cosas para hacer. Sí, yo me encargo de todo mientras mi papá solo me pregunta "¿cuánto hay que pagar?" y ya. Después, todo termina siendo una sorpresa para él. En todos los viajes que hicimos hasta ahora, no tuve ninguna queja de su parte, así que supongo que soy buena organizando los paseos que nos gustan.

Of course, for this trip I thought about myself too and my desire to do something different. Since Iguazú Falls are located on the border between Argentina and Brazil, there’s the option of staying on either side. After doing a bit of research, I saw that there wasn’t much of a price difference, so I decided we would stay on the Brazilian side, in the city of Foz do Iguaçu. In total, we would spend eight nights on the other side, using it as our base to comfortably get around the area, since I had found a good hotel near the bus terminal. On my previous two trips there, I had stayed in Puerto Iguazú, on the Argentine side, so staying in Brazil already checked the “do something different” box for me.

Por supuesto que para este paseo también pensé en mí y en mis ganas de hacer algo diferente. Como las Cataratas del Iguazú se encuentran en la frontera de Argentina y Brasil, existe la posibilidad de alojarse de un lado o del otro. Investigando un poco, vi que no había mucha diferencia de precios, así que decidí que nos hospedaríamos del lado brasilero, en la ciudad de Foz de Iguazú. En total, pasaríamos ocho noches del otro lado, desde donde nos moveríamos por la zona cómodamente ya que había encontrado un buen hotel cerca de la terminal de buses. En mis dos veces anteriores por ahí, me había hospedado en Puerto Iguazú, en el lado argentino, por lo que la estadía en Brasil ya compensaba mis ganas de hacer algo diferente.

When the day of the trip finally arrived, a Sunday morning, I was already really excited to go on a trip for several days in a row, just like I used to. Our plan for the first day was to fly to Córdoba, have a short half-hour layover, and then finally fly to the city of Puerto Iguazú, where we would take a taxi that would drive us to Foz. Because of the weather, that half-hour layover in Córdoba turned into two hours of waiting while the airport was closed due to storms. But my dad and I took even that in stride, since we used the time to grab a snack. When the plane finally took off and we made it to the other airport, the taxi was waiting for us and took us to our accommodation on the Brazilian side. Despite all the delays, we still arrived at a pretty decent hour, before 9 PM, which allowed us to have our first dinner in Brazil (and the prices were more than affordable, so that made my dad happy too) 😂.

Cuando finalmente llegó el día del viaje, un domingo por la mañana, yo ya estaba muy ansiosa por ir a pasear varios días seguidos como hacía antes. Nuestro plan para el primer día era viajar en avión hasta Córdoba, hacer una pequeña escala de media hora y luego finalmente volar a la ciudad de Puerto Iguazú, en donde tomaríamos un taxi que nos llevaría hasta la ciudad de Foz. Por cuestiones climáticas, esa escala de media hora en Córdoba se transformó en dos horas de espera por el aeropuerto cerrado por tormentas. Pero hasta eso tomamos con calma mi papá y yo, porque aprovechamos para merendar algo. Cuando el avión finalmente salió y pudimos llegar al otro aeropuerto, el taxi nos estaba esperando y nos llevó hasta nuestro alojamiento en el lado brasilero. A pesar de todo el retraso, igualmente llegamos a un horario considerable, antes de 9PM, lo que nos permitió tener nuestra primera cena en Brasil (y los precios eran más que económicos así que eso también puso contento a mi papá) 😂.

The day of our arrival was really long and we ended up exhausted, but the hotel I had chosen for our stay looked really comfortable, so after a shower, we finally got the well-deserved rest we needed. We had an entire week ahead of us to explore the surroundings of Foz and, of course, go see the beautiful Iguazú Falls. When people talk about this tourist destination, everyone usually recommends spending three or four days there at most, but my idea of staying for the whole week made the trip much more relaxed, and we were able to enjoy everything at our own pace. It was a beautiful trip, where my dad and I did so many things together, and where, for the first time, I wasn't counting every penny of my backpacker budget: I treated myself to everything I wanted because I deserved it after working so hard 😂.

El día de llegada fue realmente largo y terminamos agotados, pero el hotel que había elegido para nuestra estadía se veía muy cómodo, así que después de una ducha, tuvimos (ahora sí) un merecido descanso. Teníamos por delante toda una semana entera para visitar los alrededores de Foz y por supuesto, ir a ver las hermosas Cataratas del Iguazú. Cuando se habla de este destino turístico, todos suelen recomendar destinarle tres o cuatro días como máximo, pero mi idea de pasar la semana entera volvió el viaje más tranquilo y pudimos disfrutar todo con bastante calma. Fue un viaje hermoso, donde hicimos muchísimas cosas con mi papá y donde por primera vez yo no estuve contando las monedas de mi presupuesto mochilero: me di todos los gustos que quise porque me lo merecía después de haber trabajado tanto 😂.
