Hola amigas de Ladies Of Hive! 🫶🏽
Hello, friends at Ladies Of Hive! I’m delighted to be back in the community sharing a post. Contest #311 invites us to reflect on the very important questions shared by our fellow member @cautiva-30. I’m really excited to be able to answer both questions, because I feel that one is linked to the other. I’d like to invite my friends @syllem and @erigm to join in too, so they can share their experiences and all the wisdom they’ve discovered within themselves whilst reading this new contest. 🫶🏽
O realmente has hecho lo que has querido y soñado?
I invite you to see yourself where you want to be, and not where others have placed you or think you ought to be. Is your life a reflection of other people’s opinions — your parents’, family’s, friends’? Or have you actually done what you’ve wanted and dreamed of?
As teenagers, we are very vulnerable to what others – or even our parents – might think, because they are figures who represent love and devotion; often, we don’t want to disappoint them with our decisions and so we choose to follow the path they set out for us because it is the most ‘appropriate’ or ‘best’ for us. When I first started university, I felt a lot of pressure and believed that everything was bearable; that everything had to be that way because it was part of the personal and professional growth I was going through. But as I began to make progress and see life through my own experience, I found it quite difficult to cope as well as I could have – perhaps because I’ve always been quite a quiet person and found it hard to socialise. In part, that was one of my problems; on top of that, I began to experience severe anxiety, which escalated due to the illness of someone very close and dear to me, coupled with a house move that put a great deal of pressure on the whole family. At the time, I was told that this was just an excuse for not studying, but I also had a health condition that prevented me from performing at my best, so I reached a point where the pressure became so intense that I gave up on my university studies. To cut a long story short, I went through an operation, a house move and a period of mourning. All at once, but as I grew up and realised that no one else had experienced what I had in quite the same way, I gradually let go of some of that pressure and decided I wanted to carry on studying. In the end, thanks to life and to God, I secured a place and am now studying what I’d left behind. And although it might seem like a waste of time, for me it was always important to carry on; I didn’t know how, but I had to do it because it was my way of returning to what I’ve always been passionate about. So, during my teenage years, I followed the path my parents had set out for me, but then it was up to me to get to know myself better and take my own steps, regardless of whether others thought it was impossible. It was important for me to realise that I could do it, even when it seemed impossible, and every day is a new challenge, but I’m moving forward with great faith and perseverance, determined to complete my university degree.
Based on the phrase: "Identify your talent, and your purpose will reveal itself," how many times have you asked yourself why you’re here in this world, or what your purpose in life is?
I think we all have talents – even hidden ones – that come to the fore when we face unfamiliar situations. But this can change as we grow up. For me, it was always very special to be able to enjoy listening to others; although I’m not perfect, there were many times when I stopped listening just to focus on my own problems – I was playing the role of my ego a bit in that aspect of myself that I don’t particularly like. However, we all have the chance to learn new things and devote ourselves to them. Although I consider myself someone with few talents but a great passion for learning. I really like languages, but I also find it fulfilling to understand human behaviour, which is why I’m studying psychology. Perhaps they’re two very different things, but both have been part of me from a very young age and I enjoy each of them equally. At one point I wasn’t sure what to study, but I decided to go for psychology because it’s something I feel a strong calling towards. I believe that we all have a purpose in this life and also that nobody is here by chance; all the people close to us – and even everything that defines us as human beings – are there to teach us something fundamental for our lives. I feel that my life isn’t easy, but I have the opportunity to learn and to help others. And I’d like people to feel a little less alone and a little more understood through my own life story. This is something you don’t come across very often these days: people who genuinely want to help and listen to others without imposing their own judgements and beliefs.
