Cloudy days aren’t exactly my favorite, because they tend to bother my allergies a bit, although I have to admit they also have their own special charm. That’s how this day went—amid low clouds, intermittent drizzle, and that humid air that hints the afternoon might end in rain. Even so, I hope you all have a wonderful day and find little moments of light even when the sky is gray. On the island, even when it rains, work never stops. Margarita has that unique quality: it can be raining in one town while the sun is shining brightly in another. That mix of weather teaches you to adapt and keep moving forward no matter what the weather is like. That’s why we didn’t leave home very early; we preferred to wait for the rain to let up a bit. When it finally cleared up, we set off. My husband had to drive very carefully, because there are a lot of tourists these days, and since they aren’t familiar with the roads, they tend to drive fast and take risks. The first thing we had to do was stop at the tire shop to inflate the tires so they’d roll better. We had to go to two different ones, because the drizzle made the manager of the one closest to home too lazy to open up. These things happen here, where the weather affects even the smallest daily tasks.
Los días nublados no son precisamente mis favoritos, porque suelen afectar un poco mis alergias, aunque debo reconocer que también tienen su encanto particular. Así transcurrió este día, entre nubes bajas, lloviznas intermitentes y ese aire húmedo que anuncia que la tarde podría terminar en lluvia. Aun así, deseo que este día les vaya muy bien y que encuentren pequeños momentos de luz incluso cuando el cielo está gris. En la Isla, aunque llueva, el trabajo nunca se detiene. Margarita tiene esa particularidad: puede estar lloviendo en un municipio mientras en el otro brilla un sol radiante. Esa mezcla de climas hace que uno aprenda a adaptarse y a seguir adelante sin importar el tiempo. Por eso no salimos muy temprano de casa; preferimos esperar a que la lluvia cediera un poco. Cuando finalmente escampó, emprendimos el camino. Mi esposo tuvo que manejar con mucho cuidado, porque hay muchos turistas estos días y, al no conocer bien los pavimentos, suelen andar aprisa y cometer imprudencias. Lo primero que debíamos hacer era una parada en la canchera para llenar de aire los cauchos y rodar mejor. Tuvimos que ir a dos, porque la llovizna le dio pereza al encargado de la que está más cerca de casa y no abrió sus puertas. Son cosas que pasan aquí, donde el clima influye hasta en los pequeños oficios del día.
Once that was taken care of, we headed to the Unik Hotel, where they had called us to check the pressure in the trench filters. It’s a job we handle well, but it requires time, precision, and a lot of attention. While we were at the hotel, we took the opportunity to check the laundry filters—a task we were supposed to do on Friday. Since there was only a one-day difference, we decided to move the check up and get everything in order.
Solucionado eso, nos dirigimos al hotel Unik, donde nos habían llamado para verificar unas presiones en los filtros de trinchera. Es un trabajo que manejamos bien, pero requiere tiempo, precisión y mucha atención. Ya estando en el hotel, aprovechamos para revisar los filtros de lavandería, una tarea que debíamos hacer el viernes. Como solo quedaba un día de diferencia, decidimos adelantar el chequeo y dejar todo en orden.
When we were done, we stopped by Parque Costa Azul to drop off some invoices. It was a quick, hassle-free visit, and the cool atmosphere seemed to have everyone feeling calmer than usual. The humidity, although it sometimes bothers me, also brings a sense of calm that you can feel in the people, in the hallways, and even in the mall’s air conditioning.
Al terminar, pasamos por Parque Costa Azul para entregar unas facturas. Fue algo rápido, sin complicaciones, y el ambiente fresco parecía tener a todos más calmados de lo habitual. La humedad, aunque a veces me afecta, también trae una sensación de quietud que se siente en la gente, en los pasillos y hasta en el aire acondicionado del centro comercial.
All that was left was to go to Farmatodo to buy my allergy medication, since my allergies always get worse when it’s humid. Even so, they don’t dampen my spirits, because I know these are just temporary and that, with the right treatment, everything gets better. We had to go to two Farmatodo locations because we couldn’t find the right milligram dosage for my treatment, but we finally found it.
Solo nos quedaba ir a Farmatodo para comprar mi medicamento para las alergias, que siempre se intensifican cuando hay humedad. Aun así, no logran quebrantar mi buen ánimo, porque sé que son momentos pasajeros y que, con el tratamiento adecuado, todo mejora. Tuvimos que ir a dos Farmatodo porque no conseguíamos el miligramo ideal para mi tratamiento, pero al final lo encontramos.
Along the way, I was able to capture some beautiful landscapes—the kind that appear even on gray days and make you appreciate living on this very special island. With everything on the itinerary completed, we set off on the journey back home. It was sure to rain again in the late afternoon or evening; the clouds were hanging very low, and the scent of moisture was in the air with every step. That smell of wet earth, of the sea breeze mixed with rain, is something only Margarita can offer.
En medio de ese recorrido pude capturar algunos paisajes hermosos, esos que aparecen incluso en los días grises y que hacen que uno agradezca vivir en esta isla tan particular. Con todo lo previsto cumplido, emprendimos el camino de regreso a casa. De seguro, en la tarde-noche volvería a llover; las nubes estaban muy bajas y el aroma de la humedad se sentía a cada paso. Ese olor a tierra mojada, a brisa marina mezclada con lluvia, es algo que solo Margarita sabe regalar.
