La distancia más larga, a moving Venezuelan film

In response to OCD's invitation to participate in the Movies & TV Shows community's quiz, in which three questions are posed as options to account for our cinematic tastes, I will answer the second question:

What is the best film of your country and why?

Atendiendo a la invitación de OCD para participar en el concurso de la comunidad Movies & TV Shows, en la cual se plantean tres preguntas como opciones para dar cuenta de nuestros gustos cinemátográficos, yo responderé la segunda pregunta:

¿Cuál es la mejor película de tu país y por qué?

We were used to a national cinema marked by a theme in which social problems such as violence, prostitution, delinquency and other anti-values were the central axis around which the films were developed; however, this has been changing in recent years. The longest distance is a film that has a different plot, although at the beginning, the thread shows us a reality that hits us in the face and breaks our hearts, all this is contrasted, then, with the beauty and natural wealth that our country has because the shooting takes place in the middle of the Gran Sabana, in front of the imposing Roraima, one of the oldest geological formations on the planet, one of the highest tepuis in America.

Estábamos acostumbrados a un cine nacional marcado por una temática en la que problemas sociales como la violencia, la prostitución, la delincuencia y otros antivalores eran el eje central alrededor del cual se desarrollaban las películas; sin embargo, esto ha venido cambiando en los últimos años. La distancia más larga es una película que tiene un argumento distinto, aunque al principio, el hilo conductor nos muestra una realidad que nos pega en la cara y nos rompe el corazón, todo esto se contrasta, luego, con la belleza y la riqueza natural que tiene nuestro país porque el rodaje se hace en mitad de la Gran Sabana, frente al imponente Roraima, una de las formaciones geológicas más antiguas del planeta, uno de los tepuyes más altos de América.

The longest distance tells the story of Martina (Carme Elias), a lonely and pained woman, physically and emotionally, who decides to go to the Gran Sabana, after receiving, at the age of 60, the news that she has little time left to live. She travels there to spend her last days in the place where she was happy, but her intention and her decision is also to climb the Roraima alone and thus wait for the end of her life on that road.

While Martina begins her journey to the Gran Sabana, her daughter loses her life at the hands of criminals in the capital of the country. Thus, Lucas (Omar Moya), a 12 year old boy is orphaned and with the desire to escape from the chaos he is living and to strengthen family ties with his grandmother, undertakes the journey to go to meet her. Then, the experiences that will mark Martina's final path and Lucas' life begin.

La distancia más larga nos cuenta la historia de Martina (Carme Elias), una mujer solitaria y adolorida, física y emocionalmente, que decide ir a la Gran Sabana, después de recibir, a sus 60 años, la noticia de que le queda poco tiempo de vida. Viaja hasta allá para pasar sus últimos días en el lugar donde fue feliz, pero su intención y su decisión también es subir al Roraima sola y así esperar el final de su vida en ese camino.

Mientras Martina inicia su viaje a la Gran Sabana, su hija pierde la vida en manos de unos delincuentes en la capital del país. Así, Lucas(Omar Moya), un niño 12 años queda huérfano y con el deseo de huir del caos que está viviendo y de estrechar los lazos familiares con su abuela, emprende el viaje para ir a su encuentro. Comienzan, entonces, las vivencias que irán marcado el camino final de Martina y la vida de Lucas.

The Longest Distance is a drama that tells us, in the midst of the most beautiful landscapes, about the journey of life towards the inevitable end and at the same time, the journey to start a life of experiences. It speaks of family, love and freedom to choose our destiny.

This is a beautiful film that you have to enjoy, if you like drama, this is one of those that wrinkle your soul and leave an unforgettable mark and a sigh. I recommend it to you

La distancia más larga es un drama que nos cuenta, en medio de los más hermosos paisajes, acerca del viaje de la vida hacia el inevitable final y al mismo tiempo, el viaje para iniciar una vida de experiencias. Nos habla de familia, de amor y de libertad para elegir nuestro destino.

Esta es una hermosa película que hay que disfrutar, si les gusta el drama, esta es de esas que te arrugan el alma y dejan una huella inolvidable y un suspiro. Se las recomiendo.
