Hello to everyone in the Movies & TV Shows community! Today I bring you a new movie review, this time it's "Hannibal", an adaptation by director Ridley Scott of the book of the same name by Thomas Harris. Released in 2001, "Hannibal" is a sequel to the movie "The Silence of the Lamb" which told the story of Clarice Starling, a young aspiring FBI officer who is assigned the case of the serial killer Buffalo Bill and with the help of psychiatrist Hannibal Lecter, manages to find the whereabouts of the criminal, thus obtaining a position as an FBI officer and the consecration of his career. Ten years have passed since that memorable case and although Clarice is now a much more mature and experienced woman, she will be subjected to a series of situations that will leave her reputation as an officer and her integrity as an individual in very bad shape. Starring Anthony Hopkins as Hannibal Lecter, Julianne Moore as Clarice Starling and Gary Oldman as Mason Verger, the film was a notable success.
During an anti-drug operation led by FBI agent Clarice Starling, a gang led by drug trafficker Evelda Drumgo is captured, but due to the multitude of innocent people on the scene and the fact that Evelda is carrying a baby on her lap, the operation is cancelled due to the impossibility of capturing them properly. That is when one of the agents decides to disobey Starling's orders and opens fire on the criminal gang. The situation gets out of control and Starling is forced to shoot Evelda, who has pulled a gun on her and does not hesitate to shoot. Five people and Evelda are killed, causing news of the FBI's wrongdoing to circulate on the news. Clarice is removed from her position and subjected to the scrutiny of her bosses who deem her incompetent despite her past accomplishments.

El día de hoy les traigo una nueva reseña de película, esta vez se trata de "Hannibal", una adaptación del director Ridley Scott del libro homónimo de Thomas Harris. Estrenada en el año 2001, "Hannibal" es una secuela de la película "The Silencie of the Lamb" dónde se relataba la historia de Clarice Starling, una jóven aspirante a oficial del FBI a quién le es asignado el caso del asesino serial Buffalo Bill y que con la ayuda del psiquiatra Hannibal Lecter, consigue dar con el paradero del criminal, obteniendo así un puesto como oficial del FBI y la consagración de su carrera. Han pasado 10 años desde aquel memorable caso y aunque Clarice es ahora una mujer mucho más madura y experimentada, se verá sometida a una serie de situaciones que dejarán en muy mal estado su reputación cómo oficial y su integridad como individuo. Con la actuación de Anthony Hopkins cómo Hannibal Lecter, Julianne Moore cómo Clarice Starling y Gary Oldman cómo Mason Verger, la película tuvo un éxito notable.
Durante un operativo antidrogas liderado por la agente del FBI, Clarice Starling,se busca capturar a la banda liderada por la narcotraficante Evelda Drumgo, pero debido a la multitud de personas inocentes en el lugar y el hecho de que Evelda carga en su regazo a un bebé, la operación se cancela ante la imposibilidad de capturarlas de forma adecuada. Es allí cuando uno de los agentes decide desobedecer las órdenes de Starling y abre fuego contra la banda criminal. La situación se sale de control y Starling se ve obligada a disparar a Evelda, quién a sacado un arma de fuego contra ella y no duda en disparar. En el hecho mueren cinco personas y Evelda, causando que las noticias sobre el mal accionar del FBI circulen por los noticieros. Clarice es destituida de su puesto y sometida al escrutinio de sus jefes quienes consideran que no es competente a pesar de sus logros pasados.
It is then that Clarice is assigned the task of finding the whereabouts of Hannibal Lecter because she knows the criminal's profile well and there is no one else suitable. This time Lecter will not be the one helping to hunt but the prey. This is where the character of Mason Verger comes in, a wealthy man who in his past was accused of sexual abuse of minors in the summer camp that he himself had built for that purpose, but thanks to the influences he had he was able to reduce his sentence and only be forced to attend therapy with Dr. Lecter. Mason's intentions are clear: to take revenge on Lecter for disfiguring him in a monstrous way. Clarice will not only have to deal with the uncooperativeness of the few witnesses who knew Lecter but also with the intransigence of her superiors, putting her values to the test: Should she follow the law when only she does? Does she need the recognition of society to find herself proper and honorable? Is she still a hero who wants to save the lambs?
Expectations for this sequel were high, as its predecessor not only achieved worldwide and time recognition, but is also considered one of the best psychological thrillers. Giving way to many series and films that would take into account the quality of its production. And although Jodie Foster was not cast as the unforgettable Clarice, Julianne Moore fit the role very well. Clearly the vision of the director and screenwriter was very different from what we witnessed in the first installment, with the use of new resources where the images are very dynamic (fast transitions), there is a certain histrionics (an exacerbated dramatization that is far from the calm rhythm of The Silence of the Lambs), the reiteration and incidental music that helps us to enter into the atmosphere. Perhaps the only thing I could say that I don't like so much is the fact of using nostalgia to provoke the viewer because the film is simply enjoyable without those winks.
Es entonces cuando se le asigna a Clarice la tarea de dar con el paradero de Hannibal Lecter pues ella conoce bien el perfil del criminal y no hay nadie más adecuado. Esta vez Lecter no será quién ayude a cazar sino la presa. Es aquí donde entra el personaje de Mason Verger, un hombre adinerado que en su pasado fue acusado de abuso sexual hacia menores en el campamento de verano que él mismo había construido con ese fin, pero gracias a las influencias que tenía pudo rebajar su sentencia y solamente verse obligado a asistir a terapia con el Dr. Lecter. Las intenciones de Mason son claras: vengarse de Lecter por haberlo desfigurado de forma monstruosa. Clarice no solo tendrá que lidiar con la poco colaboración de los pocos testigos que conocieron a Lecter sino también con la intransigencia de sus superiores, poniendo a prueba sus valores: ¿Debería ella seguir las leyes cuando sólo ella lo hace? ¿Necesita el reconocimiento de la sociedad para hallarse adecuada y honorable? ¿Sigue siendo ella un héroe que desea salvar a los corderos?
Las expectativas que se tenían sobre esta secuela eran altas, pues su predecesora alcanzó no solamente el reconocimiento mundial y del tiempo, sino que también se considera cómo uno de los mejores thrillers psicólogos. Dando paso a muchas series y películas que tomarían en cuenta la calidad de su producción. Y aunque no se contó con la actuación de Jodie Foster cómo la inolvidable Clarice, si que Julianne Moore se ajusto muy bien al papel. Claramente la visión del director y guionista fue muy diferente a lo que presenciamos en la primera entrega, con el uso de nuevos recursos dónde las imágenes son muy dinámicas (transiciones rápidas), existe cierto histrionismo (una dramatización exacerbada que dista del ritmo calmado de The Silencie of the Lambs), la reiteración y la música incidental que nos ayuda a entrar en atmósfera. Quizás lo único que podría decir que no agrada tanto es el hecho de utilizar la nostalgia para provocar al espectador pues simplemente la película es disfrutable sin esos guiños.
Finally my friends, I invite you to see the film if you haven't already. I must confess that I had never seen it until yesterday as I was adamantly reluctant to do so. Thinking that if it turned out to be bad, it would tarnish the image I had of The Silence of the Lambs. Fortunately, it didn't and I actually liked it quite a bit. Pensando que si resultaba ser mala, mancharía la imagen que tenía sobre The Silencie of the Lambs. Por fortuna, no fue así y la verdad me gustó bastante.
