I just finished watching the Neagley series, and I'm left with mixed feelings. The development of this character is definitely interesting. In an interview I saw with Lee Child, the creator of the Reacher books, he mentioned that Maria Sten completely owned the character—her performance was so good that it drove the creation of this spin-off. Honestly, I couldn't agree more with that statement. Her appearances in past seasons of Reacher were phenomenal, so taking on her own standalone show was a massive challenge, and I found plenty of highlights along with a few drawbacks.

Honestamente no podría estar más de acuerdo con esta declaración, su aparición en las pasadas temporada de la serie Reacher han sido fenomenales, así que tener su propia serie fue todo un reto, en la cual encontré cosas muy positivas y otras no tanto.
As a side note, Neagley hasn't had her own standalone book written by Lee Child—until now. It turns out the character became so popular that it prompted Child to dive into a new book project, co-authoring it with Yasmin Angoe. Titled Zero Margin, this original novel starring Neagley is set to hit shelves in March 2027. It's clear proof of how warmly audiences have embraced her, and it could mark the birth of another iconic figure in action-investigative fiction.

Getting back to the show, the plot isn't too far off from what we're used to seeing in Reacher. Neagley works for a private investigation firm when she's contacted by the parents of her childhood friend, Tommy, who took his own life by walking in front of a train while under the influence of an unknown substance. Driven by revenge, she begins investigating and quickly uncovers a massive scheme: an organization using a cult as a front to run experiments on its followers.

From start to finish, this series screams Reacher—which isn't a bad thing, don't get me wrong. It's impossible to hide the show's DNA or the deep bond between these characters. After all, Frances Neagley is Jack Reacher's most trusted confidante and a core figure in his world. As a former Master Sergeant in the U.S. Army's 110th Special Investigations Unit under Reacher's command, she’s his go-to ally whenever he needs backup on complex cases, particularly when high-level investigative skills and lethal precision are required.
De principio a fin está serie grita Reacher por todos lados, lo cual no está mal, no me mal entiendan. Es imposible ocultar el ADN de esta serie y el estrecho lazo entre personajes. Hay que recordar que Francés Neagley es un personaje fundamental y persona de mayor confianza de Jack Reacher. That's precisely what I liked about the show: right alongside the central investigation, it keeps a strong focus on Neagley's character arc and unique traits. She's brilliant and pragmatic, much like Reacher—which makes total sense given that she's essentially his protégé. Yet, her tactical lethality is distinctly her own, forged by her upbringing. She shares that same drive to protect the innocent, even when it means going toe-to-toe with the powerful. Her defining trait remains her haphephobia—the deep-seated fear and intolerance of physical touch—an aspect whose origins the series actually takes time to explore.
Esto es precisamente lo que me gustó de la serie, en medio de la investigación y solución del caso de la historia, mantiene un enfoque en el personaje y sus características. Neagley es brillante y pragmatica, tal cual Reacher y eso se entiende porque ella vendría siendo su pupila. Pero su letalidad en lo táctico es propia y eso se debe a la forma en la que creció. Tiene el mismo espíritu de defender al inocente así eso le lleve a enfrentar a los poderosos. Su característica distintiva es la fobia al contacto o hafefobia, el profundo miedo e intolerancia a ser tocada por otras personas, aspecto que la serie explica cual es su origen.
However, not everything hits the mark. To me, the product placement was shameless and wildly over-the-top. Maybe they were capitalizing on the massive popularity wave from Reacher Season 4—which had just wrapped right before Neagley dropped all 8 episodes at once. Brands like the Chicago Cubs, Chips Ahoy!, and Kellogg's weren't just in the background; Neagley directly interacted with them to the point where she might as well have broken the fourth wall to tell us how great they were. In previous seasons, products were just subtly placed in scenes, but here it felt glaring.
Ahora no todo es tan bueno, para mí el uso de la publicidad fue excesivo y descarado. No se si se deba por aprovechar el pico alto de popularidad que tuvo la 4ta temporada de Reacher que apenas finalizando, Neagley fue estrenada con sus 8 episodios de una vez. Los Cubs de Chicago, Chips Ahoy y Kellogg's las marcas con la que la artista interactivo directamente, solo le faltó romper la cuarta pantalla y decir lo buenas que eran. Antes solo se mostraban en medio de una escena y ya.
Otherwise, the dialogue is solid. The pacing stumbles a bit, but it keeps you entertained, and while action sequences aren't constant, there's more than enough to satisfy. We even get those classic Reacher-style close-ups where Neagley turns to drop an epic one-liner. It packs all the key ingredients—plus a little extra—to make you feel right at home with the story, leaving you eager for another season, especially given its anthology-style potential.
Del resto, los diálogos son buenos, el ritmo no es el mejor pero entretiene, la acción no abunda pero hay la suficiente, hay close up en Neagley cuando voltea para decir algo epico igual que en Reacher. Tiene todos los ingredientes y un poquito más para sentirte familiarizado con el relato y querer ver un poco más adelante en otra temporada, con la particularidad que tiene en formato de antología.
