Tactical Action, Conspiracy, and Big Twists — The Terminal List Season 2 Has It All

Review by @danielcarrerag 🏆#139 🔥1 🎵51 🎬103 📺113 · 4h · of The Terminal List · 1 view

Four years is a long time to wait for a second season, but it was finally time to dive back into this incredible show. I actually stumbled across the first season completely by accident—no trailers, no promo clips on social media, nothing. Going in totally blind made it an absolute revelation, and it instantly rocketed into my top 5 favorite series of all time.

The season kicks off with a solid recap to get us right back into the groove, picking up immediately after the final scene of season one. We catch up with James Reece (Chris Pratt) out on the boat where he takes out his buddy Ben Edwards (Taylor Kitsch) after uncovering his betrayal. After spending days adrift at sea, making landfall, and trying to stay off the radar, a brand-new threat pulls him right back into the fray. Since he's essentially a fugitive from the U.S. government, he gets slapped with an offer: a full pardon and tactical support in exchange for taking down this fresh danger.

The plot takes a sharp pivot from the first season, where pure revenge was the main engine driving him to check names off a hit list of people responsible for wiping out his SEAL team and his family. This time around, it’s all about playing ball with the higher-ups, fueled by a burning need to figure out why an old friend apparently flipped to the other side. That sets off a deep-dive investigative mystery—a slick hybrid of a spy thriller, a high-stakes power struggle, and the signature tactical action of the Navy SEALs.

I really loved how they wove together characters from the first season with the crew from the Dark Wolf spin-off. It was a risky move, but it paid off in spades. For anyone out of the loop, seasons one and two are adapted from the first two books in the James Reece saga by Jack Carr. Dark Wolf is an original TV script that totally crushed it, so if the momentum keeps up, we'll probably be getting a third season based on the third book, Savage Son, and maybe even another spin-off focusing on James's dad, Tomas Reece, pulling from Cry Havoc.

All in all, this show is a banger. It hits every sweet spot for me: gritty military action, heavy-duty investigating, and political conspiracies, without ever going over the top like some shows that turn their protagonist into an invincible cartoon superhero. James Reece messes up, he goes through the trenches of grief, he's dealing with a brain tumor, and he loses his friends—yet despite all of that baggage, he keeps fighting for justice and putting his elite Navy SEAL training to work. They’re notorious for being lethal and hyper-efficient, which makes him terrifyingly good at getting results. Honestly, I can’t recommend it enough, even if this isn't usually your go-to genre. With only 8 episodes, it's prime binge-watching material.
