I like to come across movies or series that claim to be based on real life, because it drives me to search and inquire about the facts on what they are based and how close they are to reality, because we know that Hollywood romanticizes these stories to make them more attractive to the audience and part of the mainstream. Me gusta encontrarme con películas o series que dicen basarse en la vida real, porque me impulsa a buscar e indagar sobre los hechos en lo que se basan y que tan apegados están a la realidad, porque sabemos que hollywood romantiza estas historias para hacerlas mas atractivas a la audiencia y parte del mainstream. The women warriors on which this film is based are known as Agoji or Mino, terms that are said many times during the film with a tone of pride to refer to this group of warriors. The film relates that they are women who formed a kind of elite warriors who protected their kingdom from European invaders and other African kingdoms, but were also a shock force that attacked other villages in order to take their inhabitants prisoner and then sell them into slavery.

I must say that after reading several reviews and articles, I agree with the opinion of many that the film took advantage of the boom in popularity with elements of African nations to give a more commercial image to the story, an example of this is the clothes and clothing used by the Agoji warriors, very similar to the fictional warriors of Wakanda. It is believed that actually their clothing was very similar to that of any fighter of the time and that only when being in close combat with one of them, is that you would be able to notice that they were women, which is another example of how movies modify everything in order to make it more "flashy".
Debo decir que luego de leer varias reseñas y artículos, coincido con la opinión de muchos que con la película se aprovechó el auge de popularidad con elementos de naciones de origen africano para dar una imagen más comercial a la historia, un ejemplo de ello es las ropas e indumentaria utilizadas por las guerreras Agoji, muy parecido al de las guerreras ficticias de Wakanda. Se cree que realmente su vestimenta era muy parecida a la de cualquier combatiente de la época y que solo al estar en combate cuerpo a cuerpo con una de ellas, es que se sería capaz de notar que eran mujer, lo cual resulta otro ejemplo más de cómo las películas modifican todo a fin de hacerlo más "llamativo".
The point where all historians and critics agree is that these women were really great warriors, that they trained hard to excel, that they were a unique group where men had no control whatsoever, that these women were highly valued. It is also believed that in the absence of men to fight these warriors arise, the truth is that personally I am very attracted to the image of a strong and independent woman, able to fight and be very good at what she does, I think that image was perfectly achieved in this film.

También se cree que ante la carencia de hombres para combatir surgen estas guerreras, la verdad es que personalmente me atrae mucho la imagen de una mujer fuerte e independiente, capaz de combatir y ser muy buena en lo que hace, creo que esa imagen se logró perfectamente en esta película.
I think another criticizing aspect of the movie after reading part of the story, is the fact of presenting these warriors as heroes, when they were really bloodthirsty and without any mercy with neighboring tribes and kingdoms, all for the simple fact of enslaving them to be able to trade with them, but telling such a story is not in accordance with the current narrative that aims to exalt women and give them a better position in society. I think that was one of the reasons why the character of the Woman King constantly asked to stop killing her "people" and start trading palm oil.
Creo que otro aspecto criticable de la película luego de leer parte de la historia, es el hecho de presentar estas guerreras como heroes, cuando realmente fueron sanguinarias y sin ningún tipo de piedad con tribus y reinos vecinos, todo por el simple hecho de esclavizarlos para poder comerciar con ellos, pero contar tal historia no va acorde con la narrativa actual que pretende enaltecer a la mujer y darle un mejor puesto en la sociedad. Creo que fue una de las razones por las que el personaje de la Mujer Rey constantemente pedía dejar de matar a su "pueblo" y empezar a comerciar con aceite de palma.
That brings me to the performance of Viola Davis and other actresses, they transmit a seriousness, strength and discipline that are imposing, if these warriors were really like that, with only their presence they would win many battles. The physical body capacity that the actresses worked to play their roles is to be admired, the combat movements, techniques and staging were very good, although I would have liked to see more battles to make it more entertaining, but the drama was very good.
Eso me lleva a la actuación de Viola Davis y demás actrices, transmiten una seriedad, fortaleza y disciplina que son imponentes, si estás guerreras realmente fueron así, ya con solo su presencia ganarían muchas batallas. La capacidad física corporal que las actrices trabajaron para desempeñar sus papeles es de admirar, los movimientos de combate, las técnicas y puesta en escena fueron muy buenas, aunque me hubiera gustado que se presentaran mas batalla para hacerla mas entretenida, pero el drama si fue muy bueno.
Viola Davis as the woman king hides a painful past, it is evident that this type of suffering is what forges the strongest characters and personalities, so her role in the film is that of a determined woman, very disciplined and lethal when she has to be, she is also a suffering woman with repressed feelings not to show weakness.
Viola Davis como la mujer rey esconde un pasado doloroso, es algo evidente ya que este tipo de padecimientos son los que forjan los caracteres y personalidades mas fuertes, por eso su papel en la película es el de una mujer decidida, muy disciplinada y letal cuando tiene que serlo, también es una mujer sufrida con sentimientos reprimidos para no mostrar debilidad.
In conclusion it is a good and entertaining movie but being based on supposed real events there may be many incompatibilities that annoy part of the audience. It is not a 10 out of 10 movie but it is not disappointing either.
En conclusion es una pelicula buena y entretenida pero al basarse en supuestos acontecimientos reales pueden haber muchas incompatibilidades que molesten a parte de la audiencia. No es una pelicula 10 de 10 pero tampoco es decepcionante.
