Como les dije la ves pasada, están saliendo muchas temporadas de series que veo, así que me van a tener acá comentándolas a medida que las vaya terminando. Hoy le tocó el turno a The Last Kingdom
As I told you last time, many seasons of series I watch are coming out, so I'll be here commenting on them as I finish them. Today it was The Last Kingdom turn.
Hace poco salió la temporada 5 que, lamentablemente para mí, es la última. No les voy a hablar específicamente de esta temporada porque sería hacerles spoilers. Así que les voy a hacer un plano general de porqué creo que es una serie que vale la pena mirar.
Season 5 recently came out which, unfortunately for me, is the last season. I'm not going to tell you specifically about this season because that would be giving you spoilers. So I'm just going to give you a general shot of why I think it's a series worth watching.
Trama - Plot
The last Kingdom es un drama histórico ambientado en la época medieval. La serie está basada en los libros de Bernard Cornwell. En lo que ahora se conoce como Inglaterra, había muchos reinos separados y las fuerzas invasoras danesas iban ganando terreno. En este contexto, el reinado de Wessex, comandado por el rey Alfredo el Grande, se encuentra siendo la mayor oposición a estos oponentes. The last Kingdom is a historical drama set in medieval times. The series is based on the books by Bernard Cornwell. In what is now known as England, there were many separate kingdoms and the invading Danish forces were gaining ground. In this context, the reign of Wessex, commanded by King Alfred the Great, is found to be the major opposition to these opponents. During this time, the lord of Bebbanburg, Uhtred, a Saxon nobleman, is killed by Danes and his son, bearing the same name as him, is kidnapped along with another girl who also managed to survive the attack and both were raised as Danes in Danish lands. Growing up, young Uhtred will be forced to choose between the country of his birth and the people who raised him, and his loyalty will be tested. In the quest to reclaim his birthright: to be the rightful lord of Bebbanburg, which was left in the possession of a relative, Uhtred must follow a perilous path between the two sides if he is to play a role in the birth of a new nation and reclaim his ancestral territory.

Empezaría diciendo que para mí esta serie es un ejemplo de todo lo que está bien en la vida. Al principio puede parecer que no tiene mucho futuro, pero es de las que mejoran temporada tras temporada. Cuando te querés dar cuenta ya estás viendo el último capítulo de la última temporada, con un vacío enorme porque finalizó, pero con una satisfacción que lo compensa todo.
I would start by saying that for me this series is an example of all that is good in life. At first it may not seem to have much of a future, but it is one of those that gets better season after season. When you want to realize you're already watching the last chapter of the last season, with a huge emptiness because it ended, but with a satisfaction that makes up for everything.
Cuenta una historia bastante sólida, hay mucha intriga política, muchísima política, pero es todo tan interesante que no me aburrió para nada, nunca. No es una serie más de vikingos y sajones. De hecho, acá nunca se los menciona como vikingos, sino que se les dicen daneses. Pienso que no está enfocada en ellos tampoco, esta es la otra parte de la historia. La historia del "último reino", Wessex, la historia del sueño de Alfredo el Grande de querer unificar los reinos y que se forme Inglaterra. Los daneses están porque son parte importante en todo este suceso.
It tells a pretty solid story, there's a lot of political intrigue, lots and lots of politics, but it's all so interesting that it didn't bore me at all, ever. It's not just another series about Vikings and Saxons. In fact, they are never referred to as Vikings here, they are referred to as Danes. I think it's not focused on them either, this is the other part of the story. The story of the "last kingdom", Wessex, the story of Alfred the Great's dream of wanting to unify the kingdoms and form England. The Danes are there because they are an important part of this whole event.
Las batallas que se libran son muy buenas, de lo mejorcito que vi en este género. Realmente me mantenían al borde del nerviosismo todo el tiempo (de que no maten a alguno de mis favoritos, por supuesto). Pienso que en este tipo de series es importante hacer buenas batallas, crear un buen escenario, hacerlo real, como si estuvieras siendo parte del encuentro. De hecho, hay una escena que la tengo patente en la cabeza, de esas que generan mucha impresión.
The battles that are fought are very good, some of the best I've seen in this genre. They really kept me on the edge of nervousness all the time (not to kill one of my favorites, of course). I think in this kind of series it's important to make good battles, create a good scenario, make it real, as if you were being part of the encounter. In fact, there is a scene that I have it patent in my head, one of those that generate a lot of impression.
Pero lo que sin dudas engrandece esta serie es el nivel actoral, por favor, caracterizaron a sus personajes como nadie. El actor que interpretó a Alfredo el Grande lo hizo estupendo, el mejor Alfredo que vi en pantalla. No solo él, sino todos los otros actores y actrices. El mejor casting. Creo que pocas series se pueden dar el lujo de presumir de un buen reparto. Aparte, por lo que estuve investigando, todos se llevan muy bien, lograron crear un buen clima de trabajo.
But what undoubtedly enhances this series is the acting level, please, they characterized their characters like no one else. The actor who played Alfredo the Great did great, the best Alfredo I saw on screen. Not only him, but all the other actors and actresses. The best casting. I think few series can afford the luxury of boasting a good cast. Besides, from what I was researching, they all get along very well, they managed to create a good working environment.
Lo único cuestionable es la edad de los personajes, pasaron los años y no los hacían envejecer. Eso me parece un fallo considerable. Pero bueno, es algo con lo que se puede vivir.
The only questionable thing is the age of the characters, years went by and they didn't age. That seems to me a considerable flaw. But hey, it's something you can live with.
La historia de Uhtred es una que llevaré en mi corazón por siempre, lo vi dejar todo, renunciar a todo, perder personas queridas, y resignarse a su sueño más de una vez por cumplir las peticiones ajenas que nada tenían que ver con él. Ame personajes que antes odiaba, sufrí la muerte de varios favoritos. Me reí un montón, porque el humor que se maneja es excelente. Debo decir que fue la razón principal por la que me encontré enganchada al principio, porque me divertía viéndola.
Uhtred's story is one that I will carry in my heart forever, I saw him leave everything, give up everything, lose loved ones, and resign himself to his dream more than once to fulfill other people's requests that had nothing to do with him. I loved characters that I hated before, I suffered the death of several favorites. I laughed a lot, because the humor is excellent. I must say that it was the main reason why I found myself hooked at the beginning, because I had fun watching it.
La temporada final, que la espere dos años porque se retrasó por la pandemia, fue mucho más de lo que hubiera soñado que fuera. No tengo ninguna queja al respecto, no hubo ni un capítulo de relleno, todo encajó como tenía que ser. Pocas veces quedé satisfecha de verdad con el final de una serie. Pero no es realmente el fin, porque se anunció una película que en principio sería la que cerraría la trama de los libros y se estrenaría a finales de este año. Así que estoy muy emocionada por ver a todos estos personajes de nuevo.
The final season, which I waited two years because it was delayed by the pandemic, was much more than I would have dreamed it would be. I have no complaints about it, there wasn't a single filler chapter, everything fell into place as it was meant to be. I was rarely truly satisfied with the end of a series. But it's not really the end, because a movie was announced, which in principle would be the one that would close the plot of the books and would be released later this year. So I'm really excited to see all these characters again.
