Esta es una serie que terminé de ver el año pasado, pero por alguna razón no tuve la necesidad de reseñarla hasta ahora. Esta cuenta con varias temporadas y capítulos, aunque son cortos, de una duración aproximada de 22 minutos. Sin embargo, la serie fue subida a la plataforma de Netflix hace poco y, como es costumbre, las personas que no la vieron se ponen a hacerlo. Estos días leí varios comentarios en las redes sociales de personas que la están viendo por primera vez y me hizo recordar el momento en el que la empecé a mirar. Así que por eso les traigo esta publicación.
This is a series that I finished watching last year, but for some reason I didn't feel the need to review it until now. This one has several seasons and chapters, although they are short, lasting approximately 22 minutes. However, the series was uploaded to the Netflix platform recently and, as usual, people who didn't watch it are starting to do so. These days I read several comments on social networks from people who are watching it for the first time and it made me remember the moment when I started watching it. So that's why I bring you this post.

Para ponerles en contexto, The Office es una serie estadounidense que retrata el día a día de los empleados de una pequeña oficina dedicada a la fabricación de papel. Esta oficina, llamada Dunder Mifflin, cuenta con un jefe poco usual, se podría decir, que parece incompetente para dicho puesto. Se preocupa más por pasarla bien en su trabajo, y hasta hace participar a sus empleados de sus locuras, que por el trabajo en sí. Así es como todos ellos van a vivir las más absurdas experiencias de trabajo, tanto en la oficina, como en las actividades que realicen fuera de ella.
To give you some context, The Office is an American series that portrays the day-to-day life of the employees of a small office dedicated to the manufacture of paper. This office, called Dunder Mifflin, has an unusual boss, one might say, who seems incompetent for the job. He is more concerned with having a good time at work, and even involves his employees in his follies, than with the work itself. This is how all of them are going to live the most absurd work experiences, both in the office and in their activities outside of it.

Creo que como los que arrancaron viendo esta serie hace poco, al principio esperaba otra cosa. Uno escucha la palabra sitcom y la asocia directo con algo que te va a hacer reír mucho. Bueno, la verdad tengo que decirles que no es el caso de todas estas series, obviamente están pensadas para el humor, pero siento que el humor que maneja The Office no es para cualquiera. A algunos puede chocarles, o solo al principio.
I think that like those who started watching this series recently, at first I expected something else. You hear the word sitcom and you associate it directly with something that is going to make you laugh a lot. Well, I have to tell you that this is not the case of all these series, obviously they are designed for humor, but I feel that the humor that The Office handles is not for everyone. Some may be shocked, or just at first.
Cuando la arranque a ver tenía mucha curiosidad, estaba cansada de ver memes relacionados con la serie y no entenderlos, de que hablarán del amor tan lindo entre Pam y Jim y yo no tenía ni idea de quienes eran. Entonces decidí remediar está situación.
When I started watching it I was very curious, I was tired of seeing memes related to the series and not understanding them, of them talking about the cute love between Pam and Jim and I had no idea who they were. So I decided to remedy this situation.
Fue así como me encontré con un piloto bastante particular, de repente había un jefe que era un tanto infantil y/o de dudosa inteligencia, y el tipo de humor que se utilizaba era bastante delirante, no tenía miedo de herir las susceptibilidades de los personajes a los que iban dirigidas las bromas. Pero estos parecían manejar bien esa dinámica y funcionaban en ella. Aunque, en consecuencia, al estar acomodándome a esta propuesta que nos muestra la serie, estaba un poco descolocada y no sabía si debía reírme o no. La risa llegó mucho después, cuando ya había entrado a la dinámica de la oficina.
That's how I came across a rather unique pilot, suddenly there was a boss who was somewhat childish and/or of questionable intelligence, and the type of humor that was used was rather delusional, not afraid to hurt the sensibilities of the characters at whom the jokes were aimed. But these seemed to handle that dynamic well and worked within it. Although, consequently, as I was settling in to this proposition shown to us by the series, I was a bit thrown off and didn't know if I should laugh or not. The laughter came much later, when I had already entered the dynamics of the office.
Así que vine por las risas, pero me sentí desilusionada en un principio. Sin embargo, me encontré sintiendo curiosidad por conocer más de los personajes, saber porqué a la gente les gusta tanto esta serie y, sobre todo, por la relación de Pam y Jim (vine por ellos). También me agradaba que los capítulos fueran tan cortos, así que si tenía un rato libre, y la computadora al lado, me ponía a ver un capítulo. Hasta que empecé a encariñarme con los personajes y quise a Michael Scott (el jefe) y a todos los demás. A veces me sorprendía a mí misma riéndome y pensaba que ahora entendía la fascinación por esta serie.
So I came for the laughs, but was disappointed at first. However, I found myself curious to learn more about the characters, why people like this show so much, and especially about Pam and Jim's relationship (I came for them). I also liked that the episodes were so short, so if I had some free time, and the computer next to me, I would start watching an episode. Until I started to get attached to the characters and loved Michael Scott (the boss) and everyone else. Sometimes I caught myself laughing and thought that now I understood the fascination with this series.
Algunas temporadas me enganchaban más que otras, pero todas tenían lo suyo. Lamenté cuando se iba algún personaje, pude ver los cambios en otros. Era como ser parte de una familia televisiva, al ser varias temporadas sentís que los estás viendo crecer, aunque todos ya fueran adultos. Si bien la vi de corrido, al lado de algunos que la habrán visto desde el principio y habrán esperado temporada tras temporada para ver cómo concluye todo, pude vivir todo esto.
Some seasons hooked me more than others, but they all had their own thing going on. I was sorry when some characters left, I could see the changes in others. It was like being part of a TV family, since there are several seasons, you feel like you are watching them grow up, even though they are all adults. Even though I watched it all the way through, next to some who will have watched it from the beginning and will have waited season after season to see how everything concludes, I was able to live all of this.
Al lado de la opinión popular no sentí que la última temporada fuera mala, que sí, que pasaban situaciones que no me gustaban y me desesperaban, pero también es bueno que hayan sucedido porque la hizo más cercana y real. En mí opinión fue un final muy bueno, tuvo sus altas y bajas, pero lo disfruté. Hoy por hoy, si me pongo a mirar capítulos sueltos me encuentro disfrutándolos mucho más que la primera vez que los vi y, por supuesto, tengo y utilizo varios memes de The Office en mi vida. Esta vez con fundamentos y conocimientos de causa.
I didn't feel that the last season was bad, yes, there were situations that I didn't like and that made me despair, but it's also good that they happened because it made it closer and more real. In my opinion it was a very good ending, it had its ups and downs, but I enjoyed it. Nowadays, if I watch individual episodes I find myself enjoying them much more than the first time I saw them and, of course, I have and use several memes of The Office in my life. This time with rationale and knowledge of the cause.
Si me preguntan si es una serie que recomiendo, la verdad es que sí. Pero también les diría que puede que no sea su tipo de serie, de todos modos, les recomiendo terminar la primera temporada y pasar a la segunda para decidir si la quieren seguir viendo o no. A mí me sucedió que me termino de enganchar a partir de la segunda temporada.

If you ask me if it's a series I recommend, the truth is yes. But I would also tell you that it may not be your kind of series, anyway, I recommend you to finish the first season and move on to the second one to decide if you want to continue watching it or not. It happened to me that I ended up getting hooked from the second season on.
