Crimes of the Future es una de las películas más esperadas del año, esta junto a The Black Phone protagonizada por Ethan Hawke están llamadas a ser las grandes exponentes del cine de terror de este año. Lógicamente la segunda no la he visto todavía pero este film, del aclamado director David Cronenberg, la disfruté este pasado fin de semana. Pero, "disfrutar" es la palabra adecuada para expresarse de esta película? - bueno, si eres una persona con un estomago fuerte, mente abierta y una que está dispuesta a ver lo bizarra que puede llegar a ser la humanidad de aquí a unos cuantos años, pues si, es la palabra perfecta.
Crimes of the Future is one of the most anticipated films of the year, this along with The Black Phone starring Ethan Hawke are called to be the great exponents of horror films this year. Logically the second one I haven't seen yet but this film, by acclaimed director David Cronenberg, I enjoyed it this past weekend. But, "enjoy" is the right word to express about this film? - Well, if you're a person with a strong stomach, an open mind and one who is willing to see how bizarre humanity can become a few years from now, yes, it's the perfect word.
No hay que extrañarse con esta película ya que refleja muy bien el estilo de Cronenberg, es un director cuyos films son bastante perturbadores y algunos lo denominan como el maestro del horror corporal pero con la característica de que todo esto está llevado a la ciencia ficción. Yo sabía que esperar, ahora tu que me lees también sabrás un poco con que te vas a conseguir y aún así te aseguro que muy probablemente no estarás preparado/a para ver alguna escenas que aquí se nos muestra. Y es que no es solo "la carne" lo que se ve sino que hay desnudos, escenas un poco incomodas, insinuaciones sexuales dentro de esta distopia, etc. Pero bueno, hablamos un poco más a profundidad de que va esto...
No wonder with this film as it reflects very well Cronenberg's style, he is a director whose films are quite disturbing and some call him the master of body horror but with the characteristic that all this is taken to science fiction. I knew what to expect, now you who read me will also know what you are going to get and even so I assure you that you probably won't be prepared to see some of the scenes shown here. And it's not just "the flesh" that you see, there's nudity, uncomfortable scenes, sexual innuendo in this dystopia, etc. But well, let's talk a little more in depth about what this is all about...
Acá se cuenta la historia de Saul Tenser (Viggo Mortensen) quien podríamos considerar que es un artista corporal. Saul tiene la habilidad de ir creando nuevos órganos a través de algunos procesos que se dan gracias a la nueva vida y evolución de la especie humana, una especie que cada vez está más adaptada a un espacio y un entorno mucho más sintético. Pero por que es un artista? - pues aquí es donde entra Caprice (Léa Seydoux). Ella es su acompañante, amiga, amante, como la quieran llamar y también es la que se encarga de un proceso de cirugía un tanto extraño el cual extrae los órganos de más que Saul produce, todo esto bajo una producción teatral, un espectáculo puro.
Here we tell the story of Saul Tenser (Viggo Mortensen) who could be considered a body artist. Saul has the ability to create new organs through some processes that occur thanks to the new life and evolution of the human species, a species that is increasingly adapted to a space and a much more synthetic environment. But why is he an artist? - Well, this is where Caprice (Léa Seydoux) comes in. She is his companion, friend, lover, whatever you want to call her and she is also the one in charge of a somewhat strange surgical process which extracts the extra organs that Saul produces, all this under a theatrical production, a pure spectacle.
Evidentemente hay personas que estas practicas le parecen fascinantes, las ven como un nuevo placer que puede ir más allá del sexo pero hay otras que no tanto, que todavía son reacios a los cambios que el cuerpo humano experimentan en algunos y buscan impedir que estos "shows" sigan su camino. Acá es donde entra Timlin (Kristen Stewart), quien es una funcionaria o investigadora de una oficina gubernamental que comienza a interesarse por estas prácticas volviendo todo un poco más extraño de lo que ya naturalmente es. En adición tenemos a un grupo radical y un tanto misterioso que busca imponer lo que para ellos será la nueva manera de vivir y tratarán de usar a Saul para lograr tal fin.
Evidently there are people who find these practices fascinating, they see them as a new pleasure that can go beyond sex but there are others who are not so much, who are still reluctant to the changes that the human body undergoes in some and seek to prevent these "shows" to continue their way. This is where Timlin (Kristen Stewart) comes in, who is an official or investigator of a government office that begins to take an interest in these practices making everything a little stranger than it already is naturally. In addition we have a radical and somewhat mysterious group that seeks to impose what for them will be the new way of life and try to use Saul to achieve that end.
La verdad es que este película tiene un aura extraña alrededor que la hace, para mi, increíble. Es de esas cosas que ves incomodo pero que aún así no le quitas la mirada a la pantalla porque te gusta lo que estás viendo, yo se que suena un poco raro pero es exactamente la sensación que se experimenta en este film. Yo no les voy a mentir y se los repito, si hay sangre, si hay mutilaciones, si hay transformaciones corporales, hay desnudos, hay escenas bizarras, hay de todo; es un coctel para aquellos amantes del cine que se sale un poco de los estándares "normales" y aterriza en unos que diría no son para todo el mundo. Para mi el ver una película va mucho de sensaciones y de lo que esta te puede llegar a transmitir y sin duda considero que acá estos dos aspectos están más que cubiertos.
The truth is that this film has a strange aura around it that makes it, for me, incredible. It's one of those things that you see uncomfortable but still you don't take your eyes off the screen because you like what you're seeing, I know it sounds a little weird but that's exactly the feeling you experience in this film. I'm not going to lie to you and I repeat, if there is blood, if there are mutilations, if there are body transformations, there is nudity, there are bizarre scenes, there is everything; it is a cocktail for those film lovers that goes a little outside the "normal" standards and lands in some that I would say are not for everyone. For me, watching a film is all about sensations and what it can transmit and I certainly consider that these two aspects are more than covered here.
Pero lo que vemos es factible? - yo diría que si. Un estudio el año pasado reveló que un 80% del total de personas analizadas tenían microplásticos en la sangre. La realidad es que el plástico está en todos lados, en el agua, en el aire, comida, etc por lo que no tendría que ser una sorpresa ese dato. Esta película la podemos ver como una alerta, critica o hasta un llamado de atención de lo que probablemente le suceda a la especie humana de aquí a unos cuantos años, personas que se vuelvan uno con lo sintético y su cuerpo no tolere otra cosa sino este elemento. De esto va Crimes of the Future, y si, sabemos que una historia de ciencia ficción y no soy para nada pro de las teorías conspirativas, pero creo que es algo para pensar un poco.
But is what we see feasible? - I would say yes. A study last year revealed that 80% of all people tested had microplastics in their blood. The reality is that plastic is everywhere, in the water, in the air, in food, etc., so this data should not be a surprise. This film can be seen as a warning, criticism or even a wake-up call of what will probably happen to the human species in a few years, people who become one with synthetics and their body does not tolerate anything else but this element. This is what Crimes of the Future is about, and yes, we know it's a science fiction story and I'm not at all pro conspiracy theories, but I think it's something to think about.
El nivel de realismo es impresionante y este es otro de los grandes aspectos, nunca vemos que las escenas sea falsas, sinceramente es de las cosas que más cuidaron claramente por la naturaleza de la película. También hay que decir que no todo es eso, no todo es el morbo de la sangre y las perforaciones, detrás de eso hay una trama que acompaña la historia que desemboca en el mensaje final de la película, uno que cabe a muchas interpretaciones la verdad, ya leyeron el mío, el de ustedes puede ser otro totalmente distinto. O a lo mejor no hay ninguno y lo que el directo siempre quiso es que disfrutáramos y ya. La cuestión es que este film lo tiene todo y en gran parte es gracias a sus personajes, el casting es algo muy top si me lo preguntan.
The level of realism is impressive and this is another great aspect, we never see that the scenes are fake, honestly it is one of the things that clearly took care of the most by the nature of the film. It must also be said that not everything is that, not everything is the morbid blood and piercings, behind that there is a plot that accompanies the story that leads to the final message of the film, one that fits many interpretations the truth, you read mine, yours may be another totally different. Or maybe there is none and what the director always wanted us to enjoy and that's it. The point is that this film has it all and it is largely thanks to its characters, the casting is something very top if you ask me.
Viggo Mortensen con el personaje de Saul es increíble. Es una persona que está sufriendo y disfrutando a la vez y aunque estemos en un futuro sin dolor puedes verlo reflejado en las expresiones de él. Es un personaje incomodo de ver y de escuchar, lo haces y en momentos te retuerces un poco en tu silla y creo que lograr esas sensaciones, las mismas de las que les hablaba antes, es muy importante y de actores que son muy buenos en lo que hacen. Y más profundamente vemos como una capa de moralidad le va creciendo internamente al darse cuenta que lo que hace no está del todo bien, así que ese conflicto que a veces vemos que se crea es bastante interesante. Otro éxito de Viggo.
Viggo Mortensen with the character of Saul is incredible. He is a person who is suffering and enjoying at the same time and even though we are in a future without pain you can see it reflected in his expressions. He's an uncomfortable character to watch and to listen to, you do it and at times you squirm a little bit in your chair and I think achieving those feelings, the same ones I was talking about before, is very important and from actors who are very good at what they do. And more deeply we see how a layer of morality is growing on him internally as he realizes that what he's doing isn't quite right, so that conflict that we sometimes see created is quite interesting. Another success for Viggo.
Por su parte Léa Seydoux es una actriz que me gusta mucho, ya la habrán visto en varias películas de James Bond. Caprice, su personaje acá, es uno al que sin duda le gusta tener el control de las cosas, es la pionera de que las practicas medicas hayan sido llevadas a otro nivel. Puede que la mueva el cariño pero estoy seguro que otras cosas también. Siempre es grato verla en pantalla, es una actriz que papel que hace lo borda con comodidad y solvencia. Y en cuento a Kristen Stewart tengo que decir que me dejó en deuda, su personaje creo que era el más enigmático de la película, el más extraño, el que tenía más capas, el que estoy seguro nos hubiese gustado que lo hubieran desarrollado más pero no fue así. Muy corto su papel y eso me molestó un poco, había mucho potencial ahí considerando lo increíble actriz que Kristen.
Léa Seydoux is an actress I like a lot, you may have seen her in several James Bond movies. Caprice, her character here, is one who undoubtedly likes to be in control of things, she is the pioneer that medical practices have been taken to another level. She may be driven by affection, but I'm sure she's driven by other things as well. It is always nice to see her on screen, she is an actress who plays her role with comfort and solvency. And as for Kristen Stewart I have to say that she left me in debt, her character I think was the most enigmatic of the film, the strangest, the one that had more layers, the one that I'm sure we would have liked to have developed it more but it was not so. Very short her role and that bothered me a bit, there was a lot of potential there considering what an amazing actress Kristen is.
Esta película es muy top, es un buen ejemplo de lo que debería de ser un film de terror. Puede que no sea el mejor trabajo de Cronenmberg pero si es uno que por lo menos a mi me dejó más que satisfecho. Siempre lo he dicho, hacer una historia de estos géneros y que sea buena es muy complicado, para mi es el más difícil de lograr pero acá, y miren que soy quisquilloso para estas películas, quedé tranquilo y complacido.
This film is very top notch, it is a good example of what a horror film should be. It may not be Cronenmberg's best work but it is one that at least left me more than satisfied. I've always said it, making a story of this genre and making it good is very complicated, for me it's the most difficult to achieve but here, and I'm picky about these movies, I was calm and pleased.
Le doy un 8/10 porque mis expectativas las cumplió completamente. No hay un hueco importante en la trama ni en las actuaciones, salvo en el personaje de Kristen, que la critica no es al como lo interpretó sino al desarrollo del mismo, lo poco que vimos fue muy bueno. Tiene una duración de una hora cincuenta minutos aproximadamente. De verdad en lo que puedan háganlo porque dentro del genero es una que vale mucho la pena. Les dejo el tráiler para que echen un ojo.
I give it an 8/10 because it completely fulfilled my expectations. There is no major gap in the plot or in the performances, except for Kristen's character, which the criticism is not to how she played it but to the development of it, the little we saw was very good. It has a duration of approximately one hour and fifty minutes. Really do it if you can because within the genre is one that is very worthwhile. I leave the trailer for you to take a look.

Me gusto el personaje que interpreto Kristen Stewart y me hubiese gustado verla un poco mas, que profundizaran en el personaje. Léa Seydoux sensual en su rol, esa actriz aparece en Bastardos sin Gloria, en un personaje muy pequeño, es una de las hijas del granjero que visita Landa al principio de la película. Te recomiendo de ella, el film La vida de Adèle.
acabo de leer una mala noticia, Night Sky fue cancelada. Así que mejor no la veo, ya que me quedare con un final abierto. No han dicho nada de Outer Range.
