Por más descabellado que parezca están leyendo a una persona que nunca ha dejado de ver ninguna de las más de 10 películas que conforman esta saga y la razón es simple: creo que para mi ya es un tema de cultura popular por sobre el cine per se. Y digo descabellado porque es común escuchar a la gente hablar del sin sentido que representan estos films para los estándares de lo que debería de ser una buena película y es ahí amigos donde creo está el error, estás producciones no están hechas para ser estrenadas en festivales de cines como el de Cannes o para que la comunidad de físicos y científicos la aprueben y den el visto bueno acerca de si es viable lo que acá vemos, nada de eso; están hechas únicamente por y para el dinero y como mero entretenimiento absurdo pero eficaz.

As crazy as it may seem you are reading from a person who has never stopped watching any of the more than 10 films that make up this saga and the reason is simple: I think for me it is already a matter of popular culture over cinema per se. And I say crazy because it is common to hear people talking about the nonsense that these films represent for the standards of what should be a good movie and that's where I think the mistake is, these productions are not made to be premiered at film festivals like Cannes or for the community of physicists and scientists to approve and give the approval about whether it is viable what we see here, nothing like that; they are made solely by and for the money and as mere absurd but effective entertainment.

Esta décima entrega, que hace nada nos enteramos que estaría conformada en tres partes más un spin-off, es en teoría el principio del fin, el cierre de un feudo que por más de 20 años han intentando mantener el concepto de la familia por lo más alto, incluso más arriba que la premisa principal: la velocidad y los carros modificados. Porque si gente, estas películas son sobre la familia y que tanto se puede hacer en nombre de ella. Fast X yo pensaba que iba a ser algo extremadamente loco y desquiciado sabiendo lo que vimos en la novena pero no fue así, capaz se están guardando para las dos que faltan, pero lo cierto es que dentro de los parámetros a los que nos tienen acostumbrados estuvo bastante "calmada". Pero bueno, vayamos y hablemos un poco más.

A ver, hay que ubicarnos un poco en el tiempo. Que se vio en la novena? - pues una nueva villana llamada Cipher (Charlize Theron) quien la verdad es una mujer bastante fuera de sus cabales pero sumamente inteligente la cual pretendía hacerse con un dispositivo para buscar controlar prácticamente todo el mundo. Eso fue la novena. Ahora, esta décima arranca con ella en peligro ya que ha llegado un nuevo villano al mundo de la familia Toretto y compañía, un villano sacado de las profundidades de esta historia, su nombre? - Dante Reyes (Jason Momoa). Con este nuevo personaje estando por ahí maquinando una venganza de grandes magnitudes tanto Dom como los suyos no les queda otra que estar a la defensiva y alertas a lo que en cualquier momento puede suceder.

What was seen in the ninth? - Well, a new villain named Cipher (Charlize Theron) who is really a woman quite out of her mind but extremely intelligent who wanted to get her hands on a device to control practically the whole world. That was the ninth. Now, this tenth one kicks off with her in danger as a new villain has arrived in the world of the Toretto family and company, a villain taken from the depths of this story, his name? - Dante Reyes (Jason Momoa). With this new character being out there plotting a revenge of great magnitude both Dom and his family have no choice but to be on the defensive and alert to what could happen at any moment.

No hay un trama como tal que seguir, no existe algo que deban saber sobre el hilo conductor del film más allá de que todo lo que pasa es motivado y movido por la venganza. Este sentimiento será el motor que impulsará la destrucción de ciudades y de alguna otra cosa más. Si me lo preguntan no tengo problema con eso porque la hace mucho más personal, prefiero esto a las tramas rebuscadas de encontrar tecnología sofisticada robada y armamentos de ultima generación incurriendo en bases secretas y un largo etc. Eso llena de acción la pantalla pero termina siendo vacío, en esta oportunidad hay una razón "de peso" detrás de todo lo que sucede, además de que como construyeron el contexto la verdad y por lo menos para mi siento que quedó cool.

There is no plot as such to follow, there is nothing you need to know about the main thread of the film beyond the fact that everything that happens is motivated and driven by revenge. This feeling will be the driving force behind the destruction of cities and something else. If you ask me I don't have a problem with that because it makes it much more personal, I prefer this to the far-fetched plots of finding stolen sophisticated technology and state-of-the-art weapons by raiding secret bases and so on. That fills the screen with action but ends up being empty, this time there is a "weighty" reason behind everything that happens, plus how they built the context the truth and at least for me I feel it was cool.

Algo que me sigue sorprendiendo es la capacidad que tienen para armar un elenco bueno. Además de Momoa, quien desde ya les digo es la estrella absoluta de este film, contamos con la aparición de Brie Larson y el mismo Alan Ritchson quien es más conocido como Reacher. Esto sin dejar de mencionar a la larga lista ya conocida que va desde John Cena hasta Jason Statham y una que otra sorpresa por ahí. Esto para mi es importante porque de por si es un cast recargado en donde puede que se piense que no haya cabida para tanta gente pero no es el caso, pareciera que siempre buscan ir un paso más allá y se arriesgan con personajes que NO son secundarios porque esa es la verdadera cosa, todos son relevantes, de una manera u otra, cosa que considero le agrega valor a la historia.

Something that continues to surprise me is the ability to put together a good cast. Besides Momoa, who is the absolute star of this film, we have the appearance of Brie Larson and Alan Ritchson himself, who is better known as Reacher. Not to mention the long list already known that goes from John Cena to Jason Statham and one or two other surprises out there. This is important to me because it is an overloaded cast where you might think that there is no room for so many people but that is not the case, it seems that they are always looking to go a step further and take a risk with characters that are NOT secondary because that is the real thing, everyone is relevant, in one way or another, which I think adds value to the story.

Que decir de todo lo que tiene que ver con la acción y esas escenas típicas de estos films. Como dije, se contuvieron, no vi grandes absurdos dentro de lo que es este universo. La secuencia en Roma honestamente estuvo increíble, de lo mejor de la película, toda esa persecución, manejos de planos, uso moderado del CGI, le dieron un toque de adrenalina importante al film. Si la viste puede que estés pensando en el final y bueno, a eso me refiero, si comparamos la novena con esa escena pues esta se queda muy pequeña la verdad. Si no la has visto pues ya sabes que puedes esperar más o menos. En general todas las escenas las disfruté mucho, no hubo algo que me hiciera pensar "por que estoy viendo esto?" como si me pasó con entregas anteriores, se deja ver y eso es bueno.

What to say about everything that has to do with action and those typical scenes of these films. As I said, they restrained themselves, I didn't see big absurdities within what this universe is. The sequence in Rome was honestly incredible, one of the best of the film, all that chase, handling of shots, moderate use of CGI, gave an important touch of adrenaline to the film. If you saw it you may be thinking about the ending and well, that's what I mean, if we compare the ninth with that scene, this one is really small. If you haven't seen it, you know what to expect more or less. In general I really enjoyed all the scenes, there wasn't something that made me think "why am I watching this?" as it happened with previous installments, it's easy to watch and that's good.

Por último algo que ya había comentado. Hay que entender que estás películas dejaron de ser un producto netamente de velocidad y vehículos, si, forman parte vital para el desarrollo de la historia pero no es el núcleo. La familia para Toretto es algo incalculable, algo que no tiene comparación con absolutamente nada y ese sentimiento se ha encargado de trasmitirlo a todo el equipo haciendo que lo lleven como bandera y es que hasta el más frio de los personajes se monta en esa idea. Esa es la magia de estos films y el porque creo que conectan tanto con las personas, por más cliché que pueda ser a veces y por más meme que sea.

Finally, something I had already mentioned. You have to understand that these movies are no longer a product purely of speed and vehicles, yes, they are a vital part for the development of the story but it is not the core. Family for Toretto is something incalculable, something that has no comparison with absolutely nothing and that feeling has been transmitted to the whole team making them carry it as a flag and even the coldest of the characters is mounted on that idea. That's the magic of these films and why I think they connect so much with people, no matter how cliché it may be sometimes and no matter how much of a meme it may be.

Del único personaje del que voy a hablar es de Dante, este villano sacado de una comiquita totalmente trastocado con serios problemas psicológicos es lo que le da color y vida a esta película. Creo que nunca esta saga había tenido un "malo" como este, todos habían sido el típico personaje serio, con mucho dinero, corrupto y delincuente. Acá Louis Leterrier decide salirse de ese libreto y añade a un gran personajes con ciertas pinceladas del Joker que la verdad me pareció increíble. Jason Momoa de por si tiene un carisma y una gracia importante lo cual facilitó que Dante le quedará como anillo al dedo. 10 puntos por este personaje, creo que le hacía mucha falta algo así a estas películas.

The only character I'm going to talk about is Dante, this villain taken from a comic book, totally twisted with serious psychological problems is what gives color and life to this movie. I don't think this saga had ever had a "bad guy" like this one, they had all been the typical serious character, with a lot of money, corrupt and delinquent. Here Louis Leterrier decides to get out of that script and adds a great character with some touches of the Joker that I found incredible. Jason Momoa has an important charisma and grace which made it easy for Dante to fit him like a glove. 10 points for this character, I think these movies needed something like this.

En términos generales a este film le doy un 7.5/10. Está bueno, no cansa, no es absurdo, tiene un contexto histórico aceptable, Jason Momoa es un 10/10. No es la mejor película de la saga pero ciertamente tampoco es la peor así que ya eso es ganancia. Tiene una duración de casi dos horas y media. Les dejo el tráiler por acá.

Overall I give this film a 7.5/10. It's good, it's not tiring, it's not absurd, it has an acceptable historical context, Jason Momoa is a 10/10. It's not the best film in the saga but it's certainly not the worst either so that's a win. It has a length of almost two and a half hours. I leave the trailer here.
