Estamos a 31 de octubre, estamos en Halloween y con este día culmina esta temporada de miedo, suspenso y terror y que mejor de forma que con una de las más recientes películas que se han estrenado: Hypnotic. Este titulo lo vi el día de ayer porque quería saber si era verdad eso que se decía por ahí de lo interesante y particular que era película; interesante fue sin dudas pero ya estaremos hablando de ella.
It is October 31st, Halloween and with this day ends this season of fear, suspense and terror and what better way than with one of the most recent movies that have been released: Hypnotic. I saw this title yesterday because I wanted to know if it was true what was being said about how interesting and particular this movie was; it was undoubtedly interesting but we will be talking about it soon.
En este nuevo filme no encontrarán nada sobrenatural ni mucho menos sangre ni cadáveres, lo que si verán es un terror puramente psicológico en donde la protagonista de toda la historia es la mente humana y la forma tan aparentemente "fácil" en la que ella puede ser sugestionada al antojo de un experto en la materia. Pueden estar o no de acuerdo con la hipnoterapia o incluso creer en ella pero de que es real, lo es y utilizada en manos equivocadas puede convertirse en un infierno tal y como serán testigo cuando vean esta película.
In this new film you will not find anything supernatural, much less blood or corpses, what you will see is a purely psychological horror where the protagonist of the whole story is the human mind and the apparently "easy" way in which it can be suggested at the whim of an expert in the field. You may or may not agree with hypnotherapy or even believe in it but it is real, it is real and used in the wrong hands it can become a living hell as you will witness when you watch this movie.
Cada vez que hago una reseña de alguna película o serie de terror siempre hablo de lo complicado que es lograr calar en las personas y que estas se enganchen de tal manera que se sumerjan completamente en la historia. La última película de la que hablamos fue "Halloween Kills" en donde vimos una trama llena mucho "gore" y violencia física, ahora aterrizamos en una historia en donde la violencia es psicológica y esta, amigos, es la más peligrosa de todas.
Every time I review a horror movie or series I always talk about how complicated it is to get people hooked in such a way that they get completely immersed in the story. The last movie we talked about was "Halloween Kills" where we saw a plot full of gore and physical violence, now we land on a story where the violence is psychological and this, my friends, is the most dangerous of all.
Hipnótico, protagonizada por la espectacular Kate Siegel, la recordarán en series como (The Haunting of Hill House y Midnight Mass) cuenta la vida de Jennifer, una mujer que está pasando por momentos personales complicados y que decide en su afán de querer salir adelante asistir a unas sesiones de terapia con un misterioso terapista.
Hypnotic, starring the spectacular Kate Siegel, you will remember her from series like The Haunting of Hill House and Midnight Mass, tells the story of Jennifer, a woman who is going through difficult personal moments and decides to attend therapy sessions with a mysterious therapist in her desire to get ahead.
Este personaje se presenta como una persona amable y empática pero poco nos vamos a ir dando cuenta la verdadera faceta que esconde este renombrado y enigmático terapeuta. Además, lo desconcertante de todo es que a partir del momento en que Jenn comienza a asistir a estas sesiones algo parece cambiar en la mente de ella que por momentos no logra entender y dar explicaciones de sus actos ya que durante los mismos pierde el control de si misma al punto de no recordar absolutamente nada.
This character is presented as a kind and empathetic person but little by little we are going to realize the true facet that hides this renowned and enigmatic therapist. Moreover, the disconcerting thing is that from the moment Jenn begins to attend these sessions something seems to change in her mind that at times she can not understand and explain her actions because during them she loses control of herself to the point of not remembering anything at all.
A partir de acá se desarrolla una trama que deriva en una investigación criminal pero sin dejar atrás el suspenso y el terror que hay el ambiente por tan solo la presencia del Dr Collin Meade (Jason O'Mara) y el juego mental en la que está atrapada nuestra protagonista. A primera vista parece que no ofrece mucho pero a medida que van conociendo más detalles de los personajes, en especial del doctor, más sombría se va volviendo la trama.
From this point on, the plot develops into a criminal investigation, but without leaving behind the suspense and terror that is in the atmosphere just because of the presence of Dr. Collin Meade (Jason O'Mara) and the mental game in which our protagonist is trapped. At first glance it doesn't seem to offer much but as we get to know more details about the characters, especially the doctor, the plot becomes darker and darker.
Lo interesante de esta historia es que nos muestra y por tanto nos pone a pensar lo poderosa que puede llegar a ser nuestra mente. Confieso que con el tema del hipnotismo soy un poco escéptico pero después de lo visto aquí y leer al respecto es increíble el bien que se puede hacer pero lastimosamente el mal también.
The interesting thing about this story is that it shows us and therefore makes us think how powerful our mind can be. I confess that I am a bit skeptical about hypnotism, but after seeing and reading about it here, it is incredible the good that can be done, but unfortunately the evil as well.
En esta película creo que el terror está medido con base en el miedo real y profundo que puede llegar a causar en el espectador el no ser capaces de tener un pleno control de nuestra mente y es que como verán la sugestión de la misma es algo muy delicado y poderoso. Una historia que puede que parezca un poco floja en ocasiones de la trama pero que al entender el poder real que tiene el "villano" nos devuelve de nuevo a nuestros asientos.
In this film I think the terror is measured based on the real and deep fear that can cause in the viewer not being able to have full control of our mind and as you will see the suggestion of it is something very delicate and powerful. A story that may seem a little weak at times of the plot but when we understand the real power that has the "villain" returns us back to our seats.
Hacia el final de la película es cuando la tensión llega a su máxima expresión porque el nudo se va desenredando y se comienza a esclarecer todo. Te vas a asustar viéndola? - no porque no es una película de sustos, es una película que lo que busca es que veamos el terror más allá de los fantasmas y que entendamos los verdaderos monstruos pueden yacer en nuestras cabezas.
Towards the end of the film is when the tension reaches its peak because the knot is unraveling and everything starts to become clearer. Are you going to be scared watching it? - No, because it is not a scary movie, it is a movie that seeks to make us see the terror beyond the ghosts and to make us understand the real monsters that can lie in our heads.
Kate Siegel es una de las actrices con más credibilidad que he visto últimamente, creo que es porque la he mirado en muchos trabajos, pero la verdad es que su nivel de interpretación es magistral, la manera en como se adentra en el papel y hace suya al personaje es lo mejor sin dudas de esta película. En cuanto al antagonista, ya conocerán las verdaderas razones por las que hace todo lo que hace pero creo que para mi le faltó más presencia, es fría y calculador pero en mi opinión le falto un poco más.
Kate Siegel is one of the most credible actresses I've seen lately, I think it's because I've watched her in many works, but the truth is that her level of interpretation is masterful, the way she gets into the role and makes the character her own is the best thing about this film without a doubt. As for the antagonist, you will already know the real reasons why he does everything he does but I think for me he lacked more presence, he is cold and calculating but in my opinion he lacked a little more.
Casi una hora y media dura esta película, ciertamente no va a ganar un premio Oscar pero está buena para pasar el rato y ver una trama diferente a lo que generalmente hay por ahí. El control mental a través de la sugestión de la misma es algo que ciertamente nunca había visto o por lo menos no que recuerde. Un 7.5/10 porque me entretuvo pero me faltó más del Dr Collin Meade y la pueden encontrar en Netflix; como siempre les dejo el tráiler para que le echen un vistazo.
Almost an hour and a half long this movie is certainly not going to win an Oscar award but it is good to pass the time and see a different plot than what is usually out there. The mind control through suggestion of it is certainly something I've never seen before or at least not that I remember. A 7.5/10 because it entertained me but I missed more of Dr Collin Meade and you can find it on Netflix; as always I leave the trailer for you to take a look.
